Perfect story, perfect game, perect gameplay, but is it perfect? |
| Brendon Abbl from Oregon City, Oregon says (3/Aug/2004): |
I originaly played this game because my brother owned it...Let's just say I fell in love with this game.
First with the positive quality's of this game. The game kinda follows the actual Three Kingdoms period...But it's more over a side quest deal from the real plot. It's got all the characters and...Actualy...Come to think of it...It doesn't have all the characters...Well, we'll talk about that in the "bad traits" part of the review. The graphics are astounding. From terrain, to people, to magic attacks, to the cinamatics. Yes...The cinamatics in this game are probably the best you'll find in any game. Sound effects are one with the game. They're flawless, and couldn't get better. There are plenty of levels, and the game is really long. This makes it a perfect stratagy game. If you've read some of my other reviews, you'll notice that I've had problems with short games. This isn't one of them. The difficulty is what you call "above average". It's a bit hard for the avarage gamer. This isn't a game to just rent and expect to beat. This game takes a lot of thinking and a lot of patience. Hence the name "Stratagy game". The characters are potrayed mostly towards fiction in this game. They aren't really the way the are in the real "Romance of the Three Kingdoms"...
...With that, we bring the downfalls. This game doesn't really follow the Three Kingdoms period. Liu Bei never loved Diao Chan, and Vice Versa. Pretty much only 1/6th of all the people are in this game. You rarely see Wu, and the only Rebellion you fight is the Nanman, yet they were the least of the worries. You never see the Allied forces (Wei, Wu, Shu all in one team before the whole three kingdoms deal), and the Yellow Turbans are the ones who really kicked butt durring that time. And without Dong Zhou in the picture, Diao Chan shouldn't be there. She's the one who Lu Bu loved...And besides, Where's my Lu Bu?!?!?!?! If Diao Chan is there, he should be...But he's not. Though the game try's to follow the plot between Wei and Shu, they sorta succeed, yet sorta fail. They got all the right battles in the right spots, but the people's ambitions are tottaly flawed. (I'm a major in Chinese history, that's how I know these things.)
Wraping up this long review, the game is fun, long, and just perfect for fans of stratagy. But it just soesn't follow the plot of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms". And it's missing all the coolist characters (Like Lu Bu!!!!!!!!!!).
This game get's an unfortinate Six...Out of Ten.

| Killer B from Port Angeles, Washington, USA says (14/Apr/2002): |
All i have to say about this game is wow. I have been a fan of Romance of the three kingdoms forever and i would have to say that they couldent have done a beter job makeing this game more accurate to its predisessor. The graphics were astounding and the game play has an awsome feeling that they should try and incorperate with Romance. If Koie put ROTK and Kessin together i would sure as heck buy it! This game is what was missing from ROTK, the devestateing magic attacks and the Legions of solders at your command lets you feel as if you are invadeing early china. I would have to say that this is one of the best games i have ever played, when me and my bud started playing we dident put it down untill we had compleated Lou Bei's missions. My personal favorite ruler is Cao Cao which i was very happy to find out that you get to command apon the compleation of the first conquest. The multipul ending feature was a real replay getter its just a shame that the game wasent longer. Over all i gave this game an 8, its defenetly worth checking out and will keep you entertained for hours.
