| One Great FPS! Better than MOH! | | Arend Hart from Michigan says (2/Jan/2002): | Red Faction is the most maneuverable, most intriguing and best-looking first person shooters I’ve ever played (Editor's Note: since writing this, I've played HALO, which is awesome in it's own right). I originally bought the game used for $25 (in late 2001). And although I have since picked up MGS2:SOL, Silent Hill 2, THPS3, GT3 and GTA3, I still am hooked on the Red Faction. This is particularly strange to me since, except for Medal of Honor (MOH) I’ve never, ever liked first person shooters. Never even been interested. Hell, I wouldn’t have bought this one except is was rating 10/10’s all over the place and it was the best deal at the used store.
The story is immense, the graphics wonderful, the weapons exciting, and the control is fluid. My only complaint is that the auto-target, which is extremely nice on one hand, doesn’t allow for precision shooting. Sometimes one shot of the pistol will drop a guard, sometimes it takes three shotgun blasts. I think the game is programmed to recognize head and heart shots, I just think the auto-target (which makes the aiming so much easier than any prior first person on the market) is somewhat random on the exact spot it aims. There are settings to change the speed and auto-targeting and I have yet to fine tune.
Anyway, this game is truly incredible. If you’re not a FPS fan, or if you don’t want to spend $50 on this without trying Half Life, try to find it used. It’s really a blast and shouldn’t be missed.
Update:
At the time I wrote the orginal review above, I figured I was nearly done with the game. I now realize that I was only about half way through. This game, like the Energizer Bunny, just keeps going, and going, and going. After a particularly hard session, like last night's 6 hours (there's a lot of dying going on!) you actually feel exhausted - mentally and physically. This game is truly a work of art, and now - more than ever - I feel that it is well worth the money.

FINAL UPDATE:
Red Faction has since gone on the Greatest Hits line, and sells new for $20. You'd be an idiot to not pick this one up. A year later and still one of my favorites.

It made me feel all at home.LOL red Faction Is a great game which involves U a miner on Mars is forced to do work and rebbels which a rebbelion called "THE RED FACTION". Graphics: 8 A little choppy, but just fine. I wish they would increase the brightness though. The Only crappy graphics are mainly the floor. Its all like a tile. It repeats.
Sound: 8 OK sound. You can hear guns like there real u know. And every miner has a different voice (HALLILUJAH).
Gameplay:(9) good Adventure mode. Really fun and can give u a nice scare!!!
Lifespan: At most maybe 5 months to beat the game or get bored with it. Took me 3 months.
Fun Factor: 9 To me shooter games are really fun. I just love them.
Realism: 10 very good realism but it takes a lot of hits to die. well a lot of shooter games do that. But ghost Recon is more realistic on that option.
Value: It was 11.99$ at EB A BARGAIN!!!

Games like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark have ruined me for other games. I guess the part I hate the worst ws that it was awkward to play and I didn't think the graphics were done very well either. The storline is okay I guess but to be honest I became bored with the game almost immediately. I love first person shooters and have enjoyed games like the Medal of Honor series, but this doesn't compare to those games at all. I'm anxious for a game that has one toggle vs. using two to make the players responses a little easier to control and to induce some realism into the game.
| Best FPS I've Ever had the Pleasure of Playing! | | Nick Woods from Perth, Western Australia, Australia says (24/May/2003): | I was in Electronics Boutique about a year ago, buying some cheat and random games. I managed to pick Red Faction, as i had read some reviews and comments (Like this one) giving it a top rating (And now I am doing the same). So I managed to buy it second hand, at only $25. I Got home, not knowing what to expect, and it blew me away.
It was a masterpeice! Featuring the 'Geo-Mod Technology', allowing you to blow holes in the eviroment around you.
Multiplayer is great, with bots, heaps of different maps to play on.
The Game seems to be split in half. First is the half thats all about Capek (An evil scientist), second about Masako (Colonel of Mercenaries). I thought after i killed Capek the game would be over, but then another evil villian comes along, Masako! The game is extremely long, good for up to a year or more of play, great for $25. Then is the multiplayer part, whch will keep you going even longer!
I got all this because of luck, i just happened to pick that game random of the shelf, and it's entertainment will last me for about 20 years probably!

| great game and very heavy shooting game | | nick from toronto ontario canada says (13/Dec/2002): | this game is very heavy, you can do not only do your objective but you can move around were ever you go liek you can go back and forth or blow up everything and take your time withough worrying whats next .. but after awhile playin it gets boring
in the middle of the game you think beat it because you beat the old man scientest and which is the point of the game then it starts being a big drag goin on and tryin to get the formula for the creature thingy ................but the multiplayer on the other hand is a brutal heavt game
i never seen anyhitng like it who can choose who you want to play against be on a team or even choose the difficulty of the bots ......thats another thi9ng you can choose more than 2 people to play with you can play with 6 people and its sick its like a blood bath and espielly with the levels they choose and again if you get the rocket laucnher you can blow up places and make the bots fall and die or get stuck and you can go up to them and just shoot them
i rate this game a 9 out of 10
the reasoni choose this is beacuse its a drag and after a while you get bored and when i meen after a while i meen liek 2 years of play and you have to play the game liek 4 hours minimum a day or even 5 liek me

| This is good, but... | | Matt from Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia. says (13/Jul/2002): | Red Faction is a basic FPS, but with GEO MOD, which mean you can blast holes in walls. Sadly this game doesn't use this innovation well enough and whenever you need to blast holes in the wall to continue forward in the game (which is rare) you will get told to do it, which is just too easy. That aside, this game isn't too bad. The killing is fun, there is a long single player mission and the multiplayer is pretty intense. Although the multiplayer could be better, because you can only have two people play and there aren't too many options. Overall this is a good FPS, but nothing amazing, so I would advise this game to be bought if it is priced reasonably, but if not I would go for games such as Grand Theft Auto 3 or Metal Gear Solid 2 for a much better gaming experience. If you really love FPS then you'll probably enjoy this game. Rating 7.7
