Ganbare Capcom , SNK! | | Ouroboros_WolfRaider from Ashabul Kahfi, Jordan says (18/Apr/2002): | I first played Capcom's fighting game (what else?) when I was still a kid. I first played SNK's fighting game (Garou Densetsu). Yep, most people would think that SNK is just one of the companies trying to match Capcom's historical event. Yet I see that both companies has succeeded in making game series that have similar feel, yet with distinct identities and uniqueness. That is why I did not anticipate anything bad when Capcom vs SNK is released on DC. And I know many of hardcore gamers out there did too(especially KOF and SF players). My anticipation was right; CvS was a blast. Now with more powerful platform, CvS 2 is sure to bring out the kid in every hardcore SNK and Capcom fans. With characters from Capcom and SNK universes, the game features characters from the SF series, the KOF and Fatal Fury series (inc. Mark of the Wolves), Rival School series, and a whole lot more. The gameplay is even divided into two sections; one for those used to SNK style and another for Capcom's. The ratio system is a great boon; this balanced the strength of the teams. There's even special interaction between certain characters before a fight(eg. Ryu and Kyo, Akuma and Iori, etc.). Cool! The gameplay is alright to beginners and veterans. The graphics matched the power of the platform well; there's even alpha transparency and Z-buffering techniques in the fighting scene, not to mention multiple sprites translation. All these are not quite possible with old Neo-Geo chips and CPS2. Minus point; the games's very hard after a few levels at normal difficulty. I would recommend beginners to take characters with low ratios to survive (more characters means more chance of winning, eh? Maybe...) The musics are not exciting enough; maybe they should try revamping the old music themes from the original game series (I love the music in KOF97 when fighting Orochi , 'Origin'). The minus points are minor compared to the qualities of the games. I'm also glad to hear that SNK Corp. has finally been resurrected; maybe more projects between the game companies will be made. Ganbare!
| It was really good, but there could be more depth... | | Eternal_Sleeping from Texas says (17/Apr/2004): | I love the game as is, only cause of the diehard streetfighter fan that I am... But certain things could have been better in it,such as some characters that arent in here. Ex:Robert garcia, Birdie, Dee Jay,Original Chun Li,(not this $#< remove me > at !ty one) and the list could go on.Another thing is how many crappy characters there were on this game, WHO THE HELL IS TODO? Another thing that pissed me off about this game is how badly Ken was. He was one of the best characters on ALPHA 3. They also should have had a world tour mode as well. On the good side of things Kim was portrayed how he should have been, which is a kick ass character. And the Groove edit mode helped out a lot as long as you got as many points that you needed.
| Capcom still packs a punch! | | Rich from Riverside RI USA says (25/Sep/2003): | I liked this title. The load of characters, and the smooth controls are heavenly. I did like the Fatal Fury series, and having them face off with the characters from the Streetfighter series is a great idea. I have only one problem with it. How many of you are sick of Akuma as a end boss! If you beat him once, it isn't cool anymore. The title is still strong enough for nine stars for the wonderful entertainment it brought me! I recommend it highly.
