I'm ADDICTED!!! | | Lupinelfwood from Sandy, UT USA says (3/May/2003): | I haven't played any previous HM games, so I don't have a lot to complain about.
I love the graphics! Theyre simple and cute, and they look like you could actually pick them up and hold them. I love the bright colors and bold lines. The food looks really yummy! I think it's cute how everything can fit into his tiny knapsack, although most items are twice its size. Very convenient. The people have neat changing expressions which gives them life and character. The scenery is beautiful and I love how it changes color with the seasons.(10)The sounds are a lot of fun. They give the game a lot of life like the cicadas in the summer and the birds in spring etc...
I like the satisfying "blip" sound whenever you pick up an object. It's also neat how you can identify someone by the sound of their footsteps. My one complaint about sound is that I wish that the music would change more often. It doesn't annoy me enough to give this aspect a poor rating though.(10)
This is a truly unique game. I love the chance to get away from killing badguys and to appreciate the little pleasures of watching plants grow. I find this game very relaxing. I like not having to be forced through levels and being able to go my own pace through the year. I get to talk to whoever I want, make my own choices and recieve the consequences that go with them. I do find having to put my chickens inside whenever it rains a little tedious. Maybe in future games, a coop door will be available for you to herd the chickens through as a group. I really wish that I could get married and start a family in this game, but perhaps that will be a feature in later games. I also hope that in the future more animals will be available (sheep, pigs, geese, etc.) Another future bonus would be upgraded technology and home improvements, such as an irigation system, a weaving loom, a living room, etc.(10)
This game has kept my sister and I entertained for hours on end, for days and days. We've had the game since December and have nearly completed three years with a busy outside schedule. We get into the game a lot and play it often. It's a unique and interesting game and I plan to play it much more in the future.
I hope that they make future games for PS2 because I don't have a Gamecube and I don't think that I will ever get one.(10)
Overall, this game has been a complete success in my opinion and I hope to play more Harvest Moon games in the future!
| Harvest Moonies prepare to be amazed!! | | Wolf from Medina,Ohio,USA says (5/Jan/2003): | This is one of the best games I have ever played for 8 reasons.
The Music:The music is awesome theirs a different sound for each season so its not the same old doodoodoo I give the music 10!!!
The Graphics:The graphics are excellent I like how they put so much detail into them and not just the enviermont I give the graphics a 10!!!
The Gameplay: Magnifico the gameplay is awesome I mean making freinds and helping them out when they need it, yes it stinks that their isn't a mayor and other town events but I still give the gameplay a 10!!!
The Sounds: I love hearing water hitting the ground and doors opening and closing in games it shows that the people really want to make the best game they can and I personally like the footsteps and and other normal noises it makes me feel more like I'm there.
The Gals: Alas thou canteth get married that is one of the big downfalls of the game still its cool to make freinds with them. But we should'nt worry about not getting married the new Harvest moon game thats coming out this Spring for the Gamecube it let's you have all the the features from all the other games in Harvest Moon:A Wonderful Life unless you don't have a Gamecube like me I give the Gals a 10!!!
The Non-Pruductive Animals: I love the new feature where you get to choose your dog and train it with the flute. Yes its harder to get this time but you think a stray would come up to you and say hey you want to be my owner. The horse picking feature is cool to all you have to do is work on the horse you want and Bob brings it to you which is totally awesome I give the non-pruductive animals a 10!!!
Pruductive Animals: Yes you can't get sheep in this game but the new Harvest Moon should have them if I remember right. But you still you get the ones you really need like your cows and chickens I give pruductive animals a 10!!!
Newer Items: The newer items are cool but you can't get the axe which really stinks but I still give the newer items a 10!!!
Overall: Overall I give this game a 10 but thats because I'm a die hard Havest Moon fan you may not like it as much as me but I think the new harvest moon coming this Spring will come out on PS2 later thanks byebye.
| It Was Alright,Could Have Been Better | | A gamer says (7/Jul/2006): | The first Harvest Moon game I played and ever heard of was Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. That was a really fun game. It was very additicting and full of surprizes. I learned a few things from that game that are actualy true (e.g Cows only give milk for about 40 days witch in the game is about one year and in the real world cows only give milk for about one year and then you have to get them pegnant again).Ok well anywho,The graphics are good, but the one thing that really bugged me is that the horse didn't come with a saddle (english or western) or a bridle (a headstall), and that the cows, horse, goat, and sheep were free to move around in the barn they should each have there own stalls like when you isolate a pegnant cow, And you should be able to choose what breed of horse you want and what color,9 (If you have been wondering about why I have been stressing about the horse stuff it's because I have been horseback riding for 5 years and it really bugges me when people ride horses bareback because it's hard on you and the horse),And the animals eat and eat but where does all waste go like if they want to make it as real as possable..well you know...,also why can't you expand your barn a REAL dairy farm can have up to 40 cows and then some, not that it's easy to keep with, I would really love it if they would make a game with more objects (e.g Halters for the livestock saddles and bridles proper stalls cows that look different (say if you have 2 normal cows the spots would look different between the 2) If Natsume made a horse game simaler to Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life that had to do with horses and tranning them and people would pay you to go on trail rides and take lessons I think that would be the best game ever (Just because I love horses! Lol) But hey who am I to decided what kind of games they should make or not. I have really enjoyed there games there both a learning experence and a challenge.I hope they will keep makeing more of them.

| A good game,I guess. | | A gamer from Bloomington, Illinois, US of A says (26/Dec/2002): | I think that this is one of the best Harvest Moon(tm)games yet.
First of all, I totally LOVE the music. In every season there are different 'sets' of music, which, did I mention, I LOVE?!?
I give the music a rating of 7.
The graphics are wonderful. The forms of people have definately improved. Anyone who is a big fan of Harvest Moon should check the graphics out. Much better than earlier HM games. Graphics get a 9.
The gameplay isn't as good as I thought it might be. There isn't a mayor, which means no REAL events that YOU can really participate in. The gameplay in Harvest Moon 64 was better, because of the interactivity, for example. (Egg Hunt, Cow Milk Contest...) Most of it is just plant, water, feed, talk...No REAL fun. Gameplay gets a 4.
Although I like the music, sound isn't very good. Why? Well, it's mostly boring, normal sounds, like footsteps, doors..etcetera. The sound rating in my book says 6.
In some of the earlier games, the gals were easier to get! In this game, they are a bit stubborn and bossy. But Dia is the worst (according to me.)The best girl to marry, in my opinion, is Lyla. She is just an open, bubbly person by nature. I give 'the girls' a 9.
Getting your dog isn't so easy, either. You used to get it automatically. Now, they are stray. I hate that idea. Its so annoying! It stinks to have to get it to come to you! I give 'the dogs' a 2.
Items are newer, now. I think newer items is better for the 'virtual economy.'Items get a 9.
Animals..Well, we don't have as many animals as before. I actually thought newer and older animals would be included. No sheep? WHY? Don't ask me! The only livestock to be raised is cows and cickens. Nothing else. The other animals are horses and dogs. I would've preferred a few new animals to introduce. I give the animals a 5.
Overall, the fun factor, I would say, is 7. If you are a true fan of Harvest Moon, you'll like it. I like it, even though I gave it a 7. Don't worry. More surprises might come..
| This Game Rocks? Am i missing the fun here? | | Carlyn from Bellingham, WA U.S.A. says (3/Jul/2003): | I give this 8 stars beacuse of many things, 1st of all you can't get married/dates. 2nd, you can't get any babies/kid. 3rd you can't have sheeps. Now that get. I mean this game is so easy to beat, all you have to do is buy ONE tomato seed, plant it, and when it grows, give it to Kurt and you'll be friends with him and he'll tell you about the butterfly and stuff, and then you have to be good friends with Lyla and that plant boy, after your good friends with them, all you have to do is find the blue flower and get and that will be the end of the game. So boring, please Natsume, can't you make another Harevst Moon game better then this? come on am I missing something here?
Harvest moon fans, sorry to disapoint you......the new Harevst moon is coming out, but ONLY for GAMECUBE, so if you have a gamecibe your lucky but if you don't too BAD:( So over all this game a 1 sorry, wait why am I sorry? I'm not sorry, I didn't make this game, so Natsume make a better version PLEASE, and do something about the sex, where you can choose to be a boy or a girl, beacuse if your a girl playing it, it would not feel right playing as a boy, and flirting with girls. And make this game for PS2 too, not gamecube. Natsume make the new Harvest moon game for PS2 please, beacuse the new Harevst Moon: A wonderful Life is alot better and has a mixture of everything, like you can get sheeps and pigs and other animals, and ypou can get poodles or labradors or and other dogs from before, and you can choose to be a girl in this game or a boy, and you can have a child in this, so please make one for PS2 please. If you make this game for PS2 I'll promise you that my stars will go up 10 beacuse the new one rocks and I don't want to have to buy a gamecube just to play it. So please.........maybe you don't like PS2 people but please make it for PS2.......
| I love it! | | Daniel Selig from Madison, IN USA says (17/Jan/2003): | It's so great! The feel, sight, smell, taste, and sound all perfect. I've never written a review before so bare with me(hey, if you are a pro reviewer, send me some tips!). I have always been a harvest moon fan so I can compare it with others. Now for my review.
I will start with graphics. 10, everything has such detail, perfect for this kind of game. The people are so good looking, especially the girls. Second, the sound/music. 10, the best music I have heard so far in a harvest moon game. The music sounds more like music instead of the old, synthesized sounds. Third, the gameplay.10, gameplay is best of all the other harvest moon games. It doesn't freeze up or have many glitches (that i know of, and i have visited many sites and played alot of days). Fourthly, lifespan(how long it takes to get bored or old). 10, this game has kept me interested hours on end. The game still isn't old and I still play it. I usually stop only to do homework or sleep. Fifthly, fun factor(similar to gameplay, but more about playing). 10, I enjoy this game more than any other most of the time. just finding new things make the game fun. Sixth, originality. Um I would rate this a 10 but it is a remake of older versions. I will give it a 10 though because its not like they stole the idea from another company. Seventh, (Value?)?? Nevermind Seventh, how about ESRB rating? They made it everyone so 10! Eighth, whats the word? (Special? Touching? Great? I don't know. It's that warm feeling in the heart you get when you play a good game) I love it, you might too. Great, so great! 10! Thus concludes my review. (Hey, if you are a pro reviewer, send me some tips!(same as top). 1 love this game so much I don't know why I wasn't going to get it (here's a hint go buy the game if you like harvest moon, you'll regret it if you don't)
| Fun, Cute, and Educational! | | Kat from Pocatello, ID., USA says (26/Oct/2003): | Love the graphics. It's not like traditional animation were you're just watching a bunch of drawings move on a flat surface. No, these charactors have depth and live in a 3-D world full of colors towns people who are individuals with birthdays and favorite things not just faces in a crowd. I really like the farming aspect of the game best. Starting from scratch with a baren field, overgrown pasture, and a vacant chicken coup. This place needs some work. The fact that you have to maintain the farm is a great lesson in responsibility. If you don't water the crops, they die. If you don't feed the chickens they'll die too. In Harvest Moon, you need to show some responsibility or face the consiquences. It also teaches that being responsible has it's rewards. The dog will do tricks. The horse will let you ride him (or is it a her?) There's more to responsibility than doing the chores. HM also teaches people skills (or a reasonable facsimily). If you are nice to people, they'll be nice to you. You can begin to show them kindness by getting to know them. Like I said, they're individuals. If you find out what they like and give them gifts based on this knowledge, even show them a little extra attention on their birthdays, you'll be able to advance in the game. Last but not least, this game has no violance. You don't kill enemies for money or experience. You work for it. Success in this game requires that you be kind, responsible, and patient. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will your farm be. So I recomend this game to all you parents out there. It's definitely a better pick than a hampster. Less messy too.
| It's okay i like it alot but it gets dull after so long.................. | | Jade Brook from Miami,Florida United States says (8/May/2005): | The graphics are good, and the sound is bearable
gameplay is weird
list of YOU DON'T(s)
1)you don't get married or have children
2)You don't go to festivals
3)You don't get that much stuff for extending your house
4)You don't have wood
(i don't know how to get it if we do have wood)
It is pretty fun though
If you did get to marry in this game i would marry Katie She's
the COOLEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another flaw is why do we have to get the dog in the red bandana?
huh??????????
I like the Black Horse at The Brownie Farm most of all but i just looked up some cheats and i go to the far left horse every day and work counter clock wise so oops i am gonna restart but its horrible cause i have a cow producing M milk 5 chickens : mamita , java , minnie , and 2 0thers or 1 0ther oh well i have the dog i don't have a horse i caught a 10.9" fish i got katie working deep into the cake ending and she's falling in love with me and all ways rattles on about love then i already had the godess make dye the fabric for that on chick and i just herd about the fish myth or watever and tim is starting to treasure hunt with me and i just got my kitche/shower/toilet idont wanna restart waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Well, that was a..odd....change | | game_gurl101 from Katy, USA says (6/Jul/2004): | Say bye-bye to marriage and kids! Thats right, in this Harvest Moon game, your not out there to lay the babes (sorry if that was offensive), your here to save your homeland!...well.....your fathers homeland.....who cares!
But dont fret! The more you hang out with one girl, you are more likly to trigger a story sequence with her. And it might just end in romance ^_~
I must say though, the graphics in this one are waaaaaay better. And I just love his new look ^-^ especially that ponytail. And your not just given a horse in this game. Oh no, you have to work for this horse. On the good side though, you can pick what color horse you want. When you go to the Brownie Farm to work, just brush which ever horse you want first. And after you've worked long enough, the guy will give you a horse that looks exactly like it! Cool, huh? And instead of being confinde to only your farm, you can go all over town with your horse. Major improvement if I do say so myself.
I have to say though, I didnt like the game much, I guess Im just to used to the others. So if you loved the other Harvest Moon games so much that you thought you would die, you might not like this one very much, seeing as how it focus soley on saving the homeland, and not raising your farm and family within an appointed time. But dont let that drag you down! Its still a great game and worth playing! Plus, once you complete one little story sequence, you get to go through eight more! Good luck finding them.
| Wow! I changed my gloves! | | Ruka from Tennessee, USA says (17/Feb/2003): | Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland is altogether an interesting game. Like the other games, you are a farmer. You grow crops, raise animals, and chat with the locals. Unlike the other games, you can't raise sheep, attend a festival to make an otherwise routine month a little more interesting, or get married.
As there is no game that exists without downsides, the new HM is doing pretty good against the odds. Sure, figuring out recipies is no picnic, and I'm not the type who likes to spend hours trying to catch a dog of my own, and a sheep or wife would be nice, but you have to admit the gameplay is still great. Almost every character plays some important part, and it's not hard to find an opening to "save the homeland." In fact, you usually have the chances bombard you after a few weeks of roaming around and making friends with everyone.
My favorite feature of the game is the improved graphics. Who knew that you character really had muscles and a pony tail? It kinda puts the little guy with round white hands and dots for eyes to shame. The girls look 1,000,000 times better too, although i wish some of the other original girls had made it besides "Lyla" (namely Karen!). It's also cool that you can actually visit the Harvest Goddess, instead of readig about her in the library, as in "Back to Nature."
All in all, Harvest Moon has outdone itself in the field of their graphics and alternate endings.
| This game is absolutely awsome! | | Brooke from Canada says (17/Nov/2005): | This harvest moon game is my favorite yet! I have HM: BTN,FMT,STH,AWL,Another Wonderful Life (girl version) and ive played N64 and so far I have enjoyed playing STH the most. I got it the year it came out for christmas after I had borrwed N64 from my cousins and then i told my friend about it. Then she saved up for the game and a ps2 and to this very day we still love playing it more then we did the first time we ever started. We pretty much know everything about it and I only have 3 ways that ive never beaten before. (treasure hunt 1 and 2, and the bluebird). We have even found recipes to make that arnt on the websites, I have had many MANY files started played for a while and then deleted and i started again. I must have almost 3 memory cards full of HM STH files. ( I dont play a lot of them so I need to delete some of coarse) but my friend and I get into what we call Harvest Moon moads and we play the game for a long long time! One time it lasted long enough that I beat 6 different endings in one file. I think I did one twice.
Well i still think you should be able to get bulls and different color cows in this game like AWL but i can live without all that. I love this game just the way it is.
| natsume..comon..do better.... :( | | A gamer from fl, st pete, USA says (22/Jul/2003): | natsu me this is possibly the worst game u have made. i dont mean to be to harsh or any thing its just really harvestmoon64 owns this game if u know wut i mean. i know u can do better...i mean i agree with other faqs about the boy girl factor...and if u dont happen to add this at least add a dress factor..i mean comon wut the heck is with the toy hat? or a georama mode like make yur own house..or move and but furniture like in animal crossing..and if u add a date/marry factor woohoo make this game lotz betta...the fishing SUCKS i catch boots and cans most of the time..and kids wuld be nice if u dont wanna make an adult game wer you have to get your groove on with a lady to get a kid if u know wut i mean..haha then add a adoption building or somethin...all in all this game suks no offense......i wuld've given it 1 star if u culdnt get a horse and ride him around town...which i say is ok...add it in your new game if thier is one.PLEASE and make it for ALL counsles..well atleast both GC and PS2..because i hate GC and dont p[lan on buying one which suks because u made the new harvest moon for it...and looks pretty good too....all iom trying to say is do better please...thanx
| Great, but could be better | | Ash from Kearney, Missouri-United States of America says (16/Aug/2004): | All in all, I thought the Save the Homeland was pretty fun for the first two years. But I really do wish you could marry and have children. Also more crops, and more livestock. Also, I wish you could tell how much the people like you.
On the good side, it had awsome graphics, very cute guy, and I was happy you could chose which horse you wanted. I also had a pretty good laugh when I discovered you could have a bathroom.
Something you Natsume people need to add is festivals and stuff. The reason I liked Back to Nature so much is because you were always busy, and you had a family to live with.
I like the new fishing style. It's more fun to fish now. And I like the idea that you can train you dog with the flute that's cute to. I also like that you have a choice between dog's.
I was also happy about that you could have a everyday job. I like all the characters, they all had there own unique personality. If I could marry, I would probaly have married Gwen. She was a really pretty girl, and a alien personality. So if anybody reads this, I actully like the game, but make sure the next game you make is on Playstation 2, or else you'll lose me. Enjoy
| FUN BUT DISAPOINTING TOO... | | Angelica D. De Leon from Philipines says (28/Oct/2003): | I love Harvest Moon2:save the homeland its so cool!!! Gwen really likes me it was so cool when we kept meeting each other in the Goddess lake...But you can't get married or raise a family... you should be able to get married, and the new Harvest moon sounds really exciting, except I heard that it was gonna be in the Game cube...I DON'T HAVE A GAME CUBE AND I DONT THINK I EVER WILL!!! So pls make one for the PS2. and I love how you can pick your dog and train it also my Dog can help me and he follows me too!!! And there should be some exciting days, like festivals and picnics!!! Harvest Moon back to nature was more of a challenge to me. Since not only do you get to raise your farm but you should to worry about your family, in harvest moon 3 I'm hoping that you could have more animals, and have more extensions for your house, and also that you can choose to be a boy or a girl! but mostly I'm really hoping that you can have a family. In Harvest moon:back to nature I'm married Popuri and I raise my son and made him BIG!!! but anyway I think that Harvest moon:Save the Homeland is a great game! I recomend it to those who like reality games!!!
| it was OK | | susan from ny,usa says (13/May/2003): | i really like the new harvestmoon..and ive never played the back to the nature one..so i cant choose which one i like best..the graphics were very good, and how the dog barks and actually coming fast to your whistle was impressing. You could put your horse inside of the barn and you didnt have to spend $$ on grass seeds. You could also see your dog go into its house, same with people.Your dog can actually do tricks and it was fun how you can try to catch the diferent dogs. Its more realistic how you can go around to shops selling stuff instead of putting it into a little box!You can ride your horse out of your farm, and its a lot faster too!Its hard to make up recipes, but fun to see what comes out of it.BUT tell me the truth..everyone likes to get married and you get all excited about having a baby. You cant get a girl to like you a little more than a friend..but no action thing or blue feather to get engaged. Its nearly impossible to catch fish! I tried catching fish..but all i ended up getting was wasted time or an old boot or hat!
But all in all..this was an ok and challenging game!
| I heard you CAN get married!!! | | A gamer from Illinois,USA says (20/Jul/2005): | This is what I heard from other sites.
Gwen-Give her jam and Golden milk that is what she LOVES.(To make jam you have to get a kitchen $10,000.The recipe is verry berry(x3)and pot.Another one Cranberry (x3) and pot.Blueberry(x3) pot. There are a LOT of jams.)Anyway after you think she likes you at 7:00pm. near the carpenters place give her a gift and then talk to her if she likes you enough she'll ask if she can talk to you for a sec.(say yes). Then I heard if you answer most of the questions correctly she will marry you.
Lyla-I heard this. If you become good friends with her and show her your dog she will marry you.( to get a dog put food in the food bowl next to your house put some food or flowers in it every day even if it is ranning. When you see the dog try to pick him up.Eventually it will allow you to pick it up.After that take it to your house. Then it will stay there forever.Make sure you build it a dog house($5,000) befor you get it.)Thats all I heard about marrying so far I will write more later.
I hope I helped.:)
| where or where did the sheep go!! | | where is the sheep from arkansas/usa says (4/Jan/2004): | harvest moon is a great game but it does get boring after a while. i have only played 3 harvest moon games. harvest moon 64 back to nature and save the homland. i love the graphics on harvest moon savethe homeland but you cant get married you cant have kids and most of all well acuttally 2 things you have to go places to sel;l your things and that sucks it wastes time!! and wher3e in the earth did the sheep go!! also when you talk to the animals the dont have the heart or make a sound and i like it when they made the moo or baa or nehgg soung when i brushed them or talked to them. also i know what you mean by the ponytail lol! but it is good though but.. my favorite and the best was the 64 i was married to karen and had a baby and every thing money and all. also who every played harvest moon 64 and knows alot about it does your baby ever say daddy or mommy? i wondering and does he grow up to be a man!!! contacted me if you know at pegausa_wings85< remove me > at hotmail.com thanks
| Harvest Moon is cool. | | Lizzie from California, USA says (4/Aug/2003): | Okay, this game was wow. Well, at least the graphics were. So were the sounds and the music. But I have to ask. Where have all my little sheep gone? This game was amazing, but part of the fun of all the previous ones, was that you could marry and have kids and stuff. I like the endings, though. They're cute. I don't like the main guy's ponytail. It bounces. C'mon, who hasn't noticed it flopping like a fish??
Oh, yeah. I just thought everyone who keeps saying how great it would be to be a girl on these games, would like to know that Natsume did make a game like that. It's called Harvest Moon Girl, or something like that. It's the same as Back to Nature, but you're this blonde girl in overalls who woos the guys, has a pink on pink house, and talks in fluent Japanese. I can only understand some of it. Oh, and it's only out in Japan, so if you don't mind not knowing what the people are saying when they propose to you, go buy it!
| most awesome game for the PS2. Seriously. | | Nick from california, San Jose, USA says (18/Sep/2003): | i just got this game like 2 weeks ago, and it rocks. i have never played anything more realistic and fun. it has its own advantages and downsides, and i guess ill leave a couple tips for you people:
1. to start saving the endangered weasel to save the homeland, give Gwen a berry (doesnt matter which one!) every 2 to 3 days. also, her birthday is summer the 8th. dont bother giving her a rare metal, i already tried =P and when she says can i talk to you a minute, say yes, read what she says, and SAY DEPENDS OR YOU ARE SCREWED!!!! also, when she asks if you can love forever, say its possible. thats all i got so far, haha. need to continue.... oh and by the way people, START WRITING PROPERLY!!! you know how freakin hard it is to read what you say?!?!? although i am impressed at how many 10s this game got. well here's another one!!! ~*PERFECT TEN*~ ok later people gotta go make out with gwen. i mean go out with gwen.
peace out
