the game is cool45447

kim sears from orrvile ohio usa says (21/Oct/2005):
well i had this game for at least 5 mounths it took some time to git to the end of the game but to make it short it is hard and the game play is cool but the sound was lame the graphics are not like any other game i have ever played in my life if you take your time you will git far butyou have to play a long time to do so.i have four more sig take downs left and i have 99% of the game complet but i'm still gitting confused on the last 10% of the game so if you like hard games this would be the one for you .the fun factor it can be fun online or playing with you friends. but as one player it not that fun when you git 99%of the game over and you have two more cars to git.

this game is too easy26578

ZYAL8ER from los angeles says (29/Jun/2003):
this game is wayyyyyyy toooooo eeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. finished the entire game in 3 hrs. no challenge whatsoever. this game is completely not worth your money. you'll spend longer time waiting for it to come in the mail than beating it. there are not enough cars and tracks to make this game enjoyable.

Some of the best crashes I've ever seen!!!16217

Owen R. from Billings, MT, USA says (24/Jan/2003):
Okay, we all know, PS2's had it's fair share of racing games. But this is different! The 3 ways to win: Race,:'| CRASH ='), and get the bast score :'|! Fine, no game's flawless. Some crashes are (REALLY) fake. Like if you hit a semi at 127 MPH, You have a bashed in front, but the semi doesen't even have a scratch!! Still the games fun. It's also tough. I'm on the Savage Streets Gran Prix. The face-offs are REALLY hard. And for some reason, the computers RARELY get in wrecks! But out of it all, it's worth my money!

NOT AS BAD AS YOU THINK10739

Matt Cormack from Grimsby, England says (29/Oct/2002):
I personally believe burnout to be one of the best racing games available for the PS2. There is no doubt that it is an original concept. I understand that a few people on this web site are gettting frustrated. However, for me the most incredible part of the game is burning down the motorways and making split second decisions to avoid crashing. Or, if you are tired of this you can even see how long you can spend on the opposite carriageway. The graphics on this game are absolutely fantastic, the paint shines, the streets look real, the cars even have indicators for corners( not that many people will see them). The main downside of the game is that it is difficult to finish first in the majority of races, also there are a lack of cars and i agree that there should be an option for you to simply drive around and gain experience with no time limits. I also agree that the crashes are not particualrly explosive, however it is funnny to see how much each crash will cost you in insurance money. Every game has its faults, but this game is an original concept, with many hidden qualities which appeal to you more each time you play.

This was an ok game, wasn't really that good10348

Brock from Scottsdale, Arizona says (16/Oct/2002):
I think this game wasn't really that good at all. The crashes are kind of cheap, I mean if you are using your nos and your flying by everyone then you slam into this big old bus and your car just stops instantly but the whole front part of the car is just pushed up, and the bus is just fine no dents at all. I think that they should have done a way better job then this. There is really no point at all in the game even though it's just racing but still, I mean you can't even choose over 5 cars! thats cheap! the graphics where really good. But I hate how you have a stupid time limit, you can't even enjoy the game cause of the stupid time limit! Really they make it seem like the whole game is about see how many times you can crash. Oh well I don't think this game was really worth my money.

The closest thing to8380

Bjorn from Roosendaal, Holland says (11/Jul/2002):
I had't given this one a chance before. I went out and got it yesterday though. I had some reservation on getting the game because of some of the reviews I had read here but now I'm glad I got it because this is a highly entertaining game. Ok on to the reviewing business then:

Graphics:
Although the carmodels are fairly simplistic and textureless Burnout is still a beauty to behold. Cars shine like a mirror, traffic all over the place, particle effects when you crash and an overall speedsensation only matched by being tied to the nose of a fighterjet all this and STILL the framerate refuses to go under 60fps. The smoothness of it all is very impressive.
The only problem I have with the graphical side of this game is not so much a problem with the game itself but with the system it's played on.
Ever scince the first generation of games the PS2 has had problems with anti-aliasing. Normally this is something that I can live with but when you have a game that propels the player towards the horizon at breakneck speeds during rushhour, you HAVE to see what's ahead. This can sometimes be a bit of a problem because the anti aliasing is not there cars that are far ahead can't be seen very clearly sometimes resulting in last-minute surprises ending in horrible crashes..
But overall the graphics and framerate are a two thumbs up!

Sound:
Nothing to special here, your usual techno-esque soundtrack and engine noises,decent....'nuff said.

Gameplay:
Aha! As most gamers know,a racing game is all about control and you'll be glad to know that Burnout has plenty of it!
Cars go where you want and when you want. 99% of the times you do crash it will feel like YOUR mistake and not a result of lousy programming. Speaking of crashes, you will see plenty of them, especially when first picking up this game. After a while you'll be flying by traffic at highly inapropriate speeds. There will be times you will marvel at your own splitsecond decisions resulting in very...very narrow escapes.

All in all:
A very entertaining game with a nice Fast & the Furious kind of feel to it,racers rent this, my guess is you'll be ending up buying it...

This is a Great Game, Epecially the physics engine6571

jon from Charleston, West bygod Virginia says (24/Mar/2002):
Ahh comeon. You guys dont know what your talking about, you think its to hard,, that shouldnt have anything to do with how you rate the game. just cause you suck at it is no meaning for you to hate it. ps2 has a great physics engine, which is about the only realistic feature. The cars as almost to shiny making it to unreal. the game does requrie some strategy. you cant just drive the race, you got to mess up a hundred times and than youll know where everythings at, the ai is great cause you can play chickin with the other cars to make um run into your oppenents, the only real sucky thing is when your kickin < remove me > at $$ and you wreck on the last lap and you lose, BAH it kills me, Havent beat it yet but the mucle car and the roadster is prob my fav, got one championship left but no luck, dont matter though cause its due back to blockbuster tomorrow, anyways this game is worth the rent, and epecially worth it if your gettin at a flea market or ebay, Nah im out jc

Poor Kids6173

RedMarien from USA, Mich says (6/Mar/2002):
Althought i adgree on the part about the physics being alittle to unreal, but for you people that are complaining about the game being hard.. need to go buy some pre-school games.... the hole meaning behind games is to play and have fun.. the way i figure the Harder the Game.. the more fun it is...

If it aint a Challange? Then why play the game?

Burnout May have its physics issues but over all its a outstanding game... Decent Grafix... Hard gameplay...

This game is freaking hard!6043

Mike Bryk from Ballston Spa, NY USA says (28/Feb/2002):
If you have all the time in the world to play each championship 10 times than you'll like this game. Me and my friends will sit around and play it for hours and only beat two or three championships. I have beaten everything accept for the last championship and the last face off (4). I have thrown my controller at least 5 times as hard as i possibly could at my dreeser. I have compltely spazzed out and beat the $#< remove me > at ! out of my pillow twice and broke the turbo button by smashing the controller on my chair. What does all this tell you?...the game is FRUSTRATING. Not worth you losing your sanity.

Tough5982

Rick from Hudson Falls, NY says (25/Feb/2002):
The early tracks, where you can finish 2nd or 3rd, are good, but then things go downhill. The amount of tracks are overrated, you get 5 tracks then the other 9 tracks are backwards or small variations of the same track. Hard not to stay out of accidents, however, when you are going 120-130mph, it is kind of understanding that you're gonna have accidents for going fast. However, you don't get a lot of time on some of the tracks, therefore you have to be perfect, which is sometimes difficult too because it seems the CPU will make cars go right into your path. And the late tracks, you need to be first, which means.. you get more than 3 accidents, you're NOT going to win the championship. It is exciting, people who like to take cars around and smash should have fun.

Just about playable5877

Ad from England says (19/Feb/2002):
I bought this game because the advert on the TV said it was a great racer with realistic crashes. In reality it is a frustrating driving game with incredibly enoying crashes that happen literally every 20 seconds. Just as you start getting into the flow of the race and actually start enjoying this game you hit another car and have to wait 10 seconds while you watch some of the crappest computer crashes I've evr seen. There isn't enough cars or tracks and it is far to hard winning championships so you'll spend at least half a year just getting the first unlocked car.
It also doesn't give you long enough to get to checkpoint and if you crash (which is very likely) you will not even complete the first track.
If you are very lucky and don't crash burnout can be mildly entertaining but it is overall just far too frustrating. Either GTA3 or GT3 would be much better choices if you wanted a driving based game

sucks5736

A gamer from long island, NY says (14/Feb/2002):
my little brother bought it, it is terrible. the computer "cheats" - you can be driving incredible, yet they are right behind you and will pass you as soon as you make one mistake. if they crash, they're still right behind you. you run out of time very easily. the crashes are absolutely awful. they say realistic, yeah right, try a head on crash at 130+ mph and you have a broken windshield and a dented bumper. the tracks are all the same, the cars absolutely suck, the computer ALWAYS accelerates faster then you, regardless of vehicle, and ive even crashed without hitting stuff, just close calls have caused me to lose races. the boost, which makes you look like your going warp speed, only adds 7-10 mph, and it doesnt matter because the computer is right behind you anyway. This game is terrible, i would never reccomend it. i would rather play the original need for speed. the only good thing in this entire game is the drifting, but thats not even realistic

WORST PS2 RACEING GAME I EVER PLAYED!!!!5428

Marice from Houston,Texas,Usa says (25/Jan/2002):
The cars suck, the tracks too repetitive and suck, the graphics poor and th crashes are horrible with the 20 sec replay that lets everyone pass you up.I see people like it for the traffic if thats the case get Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero or Crazy Taxi, and they also like the crashes (which I hate) Get grantheft Auto 3 so you crash and blow stuff up(and it has better looking cars).
And 1 more thing the view also sucks and it doesn't have too many to choose from and the ones it has really doesn't suit my needs.

Burnout; a sellout????5358

Josh Handley from Illinois, USA says (20/Jan/2002):
When I first read about Burnout, I really wanted to play it. But when I did, I realized that the game physics were very poor, the instant replays wasted so much of the actual racing time that you sometimes didnt have time to finish laps, and some tracks were near impossible to finish without hitting anything. So if you even remotly like racers, stay away from this crunch-a-punch-jug-of-unhappiness.

Great Arcade Style Racer5325

Tom Stiteler from Califronia, usa says (17/Jan/2002):
This game was a nice change from all of the "Realistic" racing games as of late. With the release of GT3, it seems that everyone has been trying to see just how real they could make the cars react, and in turn, took away the good arcade feel that we all love. Burnout has, as anyone who has played knows, some of the greatest in game crashes. This game just feels good from the first moment you start the race. The excitement of driving 130+ mph through city streets, while blasting through intersections, practically hoping you dont collide with the bus that is headed for you. As you progress through the Championship mode, you unlock the multiple face off races, which, if you win unlock the car you raced against. The one thing this game does falter a bit on is graphics, which is easily over looked. Not exactely a contender for game of the year, still definately a fun and addictive game that i do recommend you pick up.

Lots of fun - just don't worry about the realism5228

Matt from Manchester, UK says (10/Jan/2002):
I really enjoyed this game. Given, its no where near as realistic as GT3 et al - but that really isn't the point. For pure mindless fun and mayhem I really haven't played much better. The physics can be a little bit dodgy and the tracks a bit repetitive but too be honest it really doesn't interfere with the fun (and carnage)

A not catchy arcade racer.. doesn't supprise doesn't grow on you.5157

A gamer from san antonio tx usa says (5/Jan/2002):
Burn out was a bit of a disappointment. It is a sega style arcade racer. It has very (and i mean very) limited game play. No options to speak of.. very few cars and tracks to choose from. Not that it really matters, they barely differ.
The point is (like any arcade racer a la Cruisin' USA) is to run around a track and avoid traffic. Here's the real twist, if you barely mis a car it gives you energy towards a very over rated "boost". It boosts your car a few MPH then you start over at empty. very simple poor physics. if you like driving games avoid this one. It's a downer. Oh yea .. the crashes.. just glorified reset. You crash it shows it twice and starts you where you stopped. About as exciting as the original Atari Pole Position.

Car racing of the future!5123

Ash from Western Australia says (4/Jan/2002):
This game is truly amazing. The crashes of the game are of the best seen in a videogame and the shere speed tearing down the streets must be played to be believed. The replayability is huge as the game takes in to account all aspects you could ask for. The only down point is not enough cars but it does not take apart from the great game. GO buy it!
