| | Drew Whatley from Dallas,USA says (15/Jun/2004): | I played this 4 somewhere around 80 hours on PS2. This game is one of the deepest and best FPS's ever. The story line is perfect and it even has its own readable newspapers.Sure the A.I. isn't HALO but the skill and modification sets easily make up for it.You can easily play this game 5 times and have a substanialy differant experiance each time. Also, the graphics are perfactly acceptable for a game that came out(on PC)in 2000.And even so graphics don't make a game think of all the classic nes and super nes games.Sure they weren't 3-D or had bumpmapping but dammit we loved em still. Please don't be taken in by BenN's review. One person shouldn't prevent you from played this spectacular game.PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF FPS PICK THIS UP.
| Very good game pitty about grafix | | lewis hartley from spain says (10/Jun/2004): | well to start off with ive only played DEUS EX on pc and i thought is was one of the best games ive played i love the idea of augmentations and skill upgrades it really gives you the choice of what kind of game you want to play IG.if you want to be a sniper, bombs expert, rambo lol well you get the picture overall a very good game for 15 upwards coz its complex id definitly buy this game if i were you but give it chance dont just turn it off after 10 mins like i did with ff7 and regreated it!!!!!!
| Did I actually buy this game? I must've had schizophrenia or something..... | | BenN from Wisbech, England says (24/Apr/2004): | I'm not a good typist so I'll make this short. DON'T BUY THIS GAME LIKE I DID! I regret it. The graphics are terrible, the gameplay is completly weird, the chracter animations are worse then the graphics themselves and the so called 'reward' at the end of the game is... well, its just not worth finishing the game for!
There's only one thing I like about this game. From the start you are given complete freedom about what you do, how you do it, who you talk to and where you go. That will make this game not a FPS but an RPG! But apart from that, I hate it.
Firstly, there are no traditional boss chracters anywhere in this bonkers game. One minute you're talking to some ugly git, and in the next moment he's pulled out a flamethrower and he 'lights you up'! The unpredictability is insane.(Thats why I have schizophrenia).
Secondly, I have never seen such stupid computer chracters in all my life. They walk and run as if their legs were as flexible as a brick! And somehow they can turn, as if they were on a rotating platform, while still moving there legs as if running! So it looks like a giant invisible hand comes down and turns them around, making the entire game look like it was made in the 80's, where everyone was playing cruddy nintendo RPG's where all the monsters and the other chracters were made out of stupid green squares.
Lastly, it is far to difficult to get from one place to another. Most of the missions involve running from one place, to another place, getting completly lost in the process, killing everyone in your way, picking something stupid up, escaping and getting lost all over again then finally getting the item to its rightful owner and in return, another completly stupid mission.
I can go on and on and on about how bad this game is. I really can only recommend this game to people who like a challenge or to those who completly took in by all the games false advretising. Andy Hunt of Plastation Max, this one goes to you.
| A scottish view | | Derick Macleod from Edinburgh,Scotland says (2/Jan/2003): | Deus Ex has to be one of the best FPS around, and with that its not a true FPS with it borrowing heavily from the adventure genre. The best feature of the game has to be the multiple ways you can complete your mission, be it by shooting your way in ( not a good option on the higher difficulty levals) or by sneaking in by the back door. The first mission is a classic example of this with you having to choose to blow, snipe or sneak your way in. A highlight of this game, has to be the sheer amount of locations you will find your self in, and the varied objectives you have to complete to progress. It drops marks for its "boss" encounterd. I mean defeating Gunther and anna near the beginning is so easy its laughable. Again it drops marks for the annoying boring musical score and slightly dodgy graphics, but the game is still almost perfection. Buy this and you won't regret it!
| Was I suprised! | | A gamer from Manitoba, Canada says (21/Aug/2002): | When I first purchased I thought it was just another FPS.Was I ever wrong. This has to be one of the best games i've ever played. It has one of the most interesting storylines that completely draws you into game. It takes you to many different lcations throughout the world such as paris, hong kong, and new york as you try to stop majestic 12, an evil organization bent on taking over the world. My favorite thing about this game was the augmentations. Throughout the game you can pick these canisters that give or improve certain abilites of your character(invisibility, regeneration, infared vison etc, etc). The reason i'm only giving this game an 8 out of 10 is because the enemy ai isn't too bright and the graphics are a little dated, but this still isn't enough to ruin an absolutly wonderful game.
| A dissapointment.... | | Chris Ward from Houston (Texas) USA says (10/Apr/2002): | Dues Ex really didn’t do much for me. I have to admit that the gameplay and new ideas introduced into the game were well thought out and are actually used quite a bit. The story had a lot of elements that I’ve never seen in a game before that I enjoyed quite a bit. It was mysterious and made me want to play it further. Their was one thing however that often at times made me walk away from this title……it’s graphics. The choppy frame-rate and horrible graphics (Compared to titles like MGS2.) really discouraged me. When I first checked the game out I quit playing before I even started the fighting. A.I was another problem, because it was well……dumb. You could RUN right past a guard and he would only say, “Check your weapons.” He didn’t even turn around. I felt the programmers and producers quit putting effort into it at times. One occurrence of this effortless attempt was the training, it had no point. It pretty much gave you all the controls and sent you on your way. The weapons area of the training was shady too, only because you get experience with only THREE weapons, and they didn’t even tell you much about that. All in all this game would have been one of my fav’s if it hadn’t have screwed up in the visuals and effort department. This is why I give it 6 out of 10
| Deus Ex is a compelling and original game | | Caleb from Arizona, USA says (9/Apr/2002): | Let me start off by saying Dues Ex ROCKS! The story is very deep and intriguing. The gamplay is ingenious. The graphics, while slightly dated, are solid. The controls are a little complex for a console game, but fairly easy to get used to.
The only complaint I have is the loads times are somewhat long, and the A.I. is a little dumb at times. But this is a small price to pay for such an excellent title.
