The Best RPG Game!24621

Joshua Hocker from Christiansburg,USA says (2/Jun/2003):
This game is very illistrted and has great characters in it. Kahu the main caracter is in a very rough perdicament and has to get rid of his nasty curse. You go thru and fight divine beasts, divine beast hunters/owers and many bosses. this game is a couple years old but still has a great taste to it. You can get this game for only twenty dollars, yes twenty dollars. The graphics are very interesting at sometimes but when you step in the temple you see very detailed sets omoust like a real temple or sinagauge. As you can tell Iliked this game a lot.The characters at times and when something big has happened changes their voice projection and stature of their picture and them on the game. This game can last for a long time, it may seem like it takes for ever to level up your divine beasts but when they do a suprise happens, im not sayin but they kinda change a little. Its very fun to play a teenager who lives in the past and has no idea about changes from cocoon master to divine beast hunter. The life span of the game in the real world not the game world is about 50-60 hours if you really want to get in the game and get every thing on it and all the little items and divine beasts. It may look like it has a take off of other games but it originality is very easilly seen. The game is something your family and friends will injoy as long as they like RPG's. So if you can go buy this game love and cherish it for all your life (or as long as you keep a plastation 2, duh)

Probably the best RPG ever and ive played a lot.17684

Alexander Barnard from Scotland says (17/Feb/2003):
Absolutely amazing! I only actually played the game cause i got it for £20.00 of my brother but i was completely surprised! The spinning battle board where your divine beasts stnad can make you think about where you put your divine beasts? The battle board has three element sides. Fire, wind, water and of course earth. This game will keep you playing for hours! The only flaws (bad things) are the somewhat cheesy voice of the main character. And a few others. If you have played the first game you must know about merging. When you merge the monster does not change its appearance it only gains the attack of the other monster you merge it with. Altogether this is a good game and you would be pretty damn lucky if you got it for £20.00 LIKE ME!

For The Team!15326

Matthew Craddock from Ellesmere, England says (12/Jan/2003):
This game is class with a capital 'C' for Cocoon! It's a great improvement on the first game with four times the forests meaning four times the lastability. You can really get some ferocious beasts as well as some more bizarre ones meaning it's good fun for people who like pokemon and people who want to stick them in a blender! The graphics are also really good enabling you to see your beasts in glorious 3d. Add to this glorious gameplay and a pretty good plot and merging system and you've got yourself a great game. jackanackanory.

Great if you want your moneys worth!!!!14876

A gamer from Hackleburg,Alabama-USA says (5/Jan/2003):
I bought the original Jade Cocoon game as a mark down at Wal-Mart and was really surprised by how fun the game was considering the odd title. When Jade Cocoon 2 came out, I just had to have it and was only slightly disappointed because you could no longer actually merge the monsters into different forms like in the first game-now you capture eggs and raise divine beasts that change their appearance only by evolving. The combat system in this game is repetitive, but no more so than Final Fantasy and more challenging because you have several beasts that you control...that makes the game far more challenging and more fun! I've found that most people who dis this game don't seem to know much about it (a sign that they really didn't play it or give it a chance) as your beasts have at least two powers that can be used during a fight and by evolving them, you can change these powers. I've played Pokemon, Digimon, Summoner and other games of this genre and Jade Cocoon is by far the best in many ways. You will spend several days playing the game just to reach the final boss-but wait a minute, the game doesn't end there as beating the final boss opens up new forests where you now begin competing against even more powerful Beasthunters, powerful beasts and open up new arenas that make this game almost endless. The greatest thing about Jade Cocoon 2 is merging the beasts... even when you finally have a set of powerful beasts, there's still dozens more that can be evolved and there's always another challenge to keep you playing! The games weaknesses are its name and the fact that it is so repetitive...but, aren't all rpg's repetitive? At least in this game you know where your enemies are and you control the powers your beasts have...compare that to other rpg's where your enemys are invisible until you step in their areas, where you have to play with beasts whose powers are the same throughout the game or that at most might offer only a few hours gameplay! This is one of the longest, most interactive games I've ever played and now that it's less than $20.00...I suggest you buy this game!

Monster anime games kick @$$12881

Jollygnome from Park Ridge, NJ. USA says (13/Dec/2002):
one of the best games ever! this game is nothing like pokemon or those other crappy monster games, this one is for hardcore gamers that don't give up on games easily. the fact that you can breed monsters makes the game the best, but you have to work a long time to get the best monsters.

Definitely a... unique RPG.9072

Max Brugger from Portland (Oregon), USA says (16/Aug/2002):
I bought this a while after it came out for $30 looking for an RPG that I could play to death until Grandia Extreme came out in September. What I found was immediate disappointment, this is not a deep game. Not immediately at least.
In the game you wander through one of four forests, trying to get through the twisty mazes to swallow the keyspores to get farther into the forest, eventually finding the sacred orb at the center. When you encounter an enemy, you go to a battle screen in which you are surrounded by your "Divine Beasts". By rotating which side faces the enemy, you control which "Divine Beasts" will go on the next turn and what their attack will be. Rotate the "BeastAmulet" to the fire side and the "Divine Beasts on that side will attack with their fire attack, and also be attacked by the enemy. Also, after every turn, some MP is regained, which means you can restore your "Divine Beast"'s MP during battle. I call this process juggling, and juggling your "Divine Beasts" attacks well, will usually ensure victory. Strategy also comes from how you place your beasts around you. You want to place them allowing for the easiest juggling possible.
The plot is fairly thin. You've got to find the four orbs of the jungles to cure yourself of the evil spirit that took over your body and gave you your unsightly tail. Throughout your trek through the forests, you'll meet colorful and interesting individuals who may or may not want to help you.
The forests are well detailed and each level looks just different enough to keep things interesting. However, I have never experienced such claustrophobia in my life. None of the levels are connected (you pass from one to the next by portals) and the camera is positioned to limit your sight distance. It really feels like you're trapped in these elemental-forest themed rooms. As a result, the game is not merely as immersive as it could be.
It seems that every good thing in this game is checked by a bad thing: the battle system is fairly deep, but you can only give one "Divine Beast" one attack; the graphics are good, but the world feel claustrophobic, etc. While this game is good and wildly different most anything else out there, it's definitely not perfect, and it's definitely not for everyone.

Jade Cocoon 2 Rating: 96212

Errol Docena from North Hollywood, CA, USA says (7/Mar/2002):
Now we have all had our shares of monster training games:
Poke'mon
Monster Rancher
Digi'mon
Monster Seed
Dragon Seeds
Master of Monsters
Azure Dreams
Monster Trainer
Dragon Hunter
Etc...

The Jade Cocoon video games were same in someways and different in other ways, but Jade Cocoon 2 was a great improvement.
As some people might say: "It wasn't that great...", but it was great its not perfect, but it was indeed a great game for playing...
Jade Cocoon 2 is a mix of addicting and fun, but if you're questioning of the game sense: It is a mix of Azure Dreams' enemy wandering, Poke'mon's level ups, and maybe some other mixes. The surprising thing is the simplicity and complexity.
It is simple on how everything works: battle, items, escaping, etc. The complex thing is the tactic put into it. Yeah you could just become really powerful and defeat them in one blow, but the elements and their attacks is what makes it not so easy. Another amzement is the number of monsters on the battleground: 8. 3 may attack, but you can switch off back and forth between the sections.
The battle system works normally: Turn system & status based. Status based according to speed. The main character can join into the fight using items, but unlike the first one, you can't actually charge into battle yourself, nor can you equip weapons or armor. The amount of shields (times you can get hit before you lose) is depended on how many Beast amulets (items you gain after passing tests, also amount of extra monsters you have in your team, since in the start you can only use 2) you have.
Movie graphics are MR3 monster or ZOIDS zoids, basically 3D structure with a 2D coloring, smooth and weird looking if you see it for yourself. The normal graphics are normal, you know, the type of graphics the old PS games had for movie scenes that people said were awesome, but now insignificant and used only for normal, not movie.
Gameplay movement is smooth and comforting, by comforting I mean because some people are uncomfortable watching their characters twitch or look unnatural when moving or stopping.
Storyline is like the storylines found in the new games today: It moves on as you find new events, and you don't have to go in a certain order to excel. The storyline is good, seems slow in the start, but becomes more and more interesting in the as you continue to move on.
Graphics: 9.6
Gameplay: 10
Loading time: 8.9 (Some people use to fast loading, might think this is slow)
Storyline: 9
Time to complete: 1.5 weeks (Not fully sure)
All-in-all: 9.5

Game: Jade Cocoon 2
Company: Genki & Ubisoft
System: PS2
