needs some work but its still good | | Mike19 from Washington NC, USA says (2/Apr/2003): | TXR zero is pretty good but i think it could use some work, like making it more realistic. like having real tuner parts from places like Vielside, HKS, Tien, RAYs, top secret, JUN, APEXi, etc... i know that there are a few parts on it from vielside and i KNOW there is an HKS sticker but is that all that HKS makes for the cars??? i dont think so. another aspect that could be worked on could be having cops chasin' after you that would be kick a$$ like having a BMW m3 cop car with about 300hp trying 2 catch me in my 1000+ hp skyline i would just blow him out of the water then here comes the chopper ohh nooo its 2 slow :) lata suka!!! and also i think driving through tokyo would be pretty kool don't u? and i know that most the street racers there go 2 a place called Diakoku (i dont know how 2 spell that, but its a big parking place) before they race 2 talk and challenge each other. also i think they should bring back the create-a-sticker thing cuz then u could make up ur own team. and adding graphics on a car might be neat like a huge HKS stiker along the side or a signature Vielside stripe down the side of the car. the graphics could use some work cause the cars are kind of bland there is almost no shiney reflection just a lighter color to represent the reflection. and (i know i seem a bit picky but its just a bit of constructive criticism) they should put wheels up there able 2 be sized up to about 19" for all cars, or most cars cause i know the AE86 trueno aint gonna look right with 19 inchers up there, but the 16" wheels on the eclipse look like 14" hubcaps and who's not up for some bigger wheels? a couple more things there should be Garage created cars (i'm pretty sure that white carismas RX-7 is the RE-Super G Garage car, and Eves Supra is the Abflug Supra) there should be more that WE can create. and i think thats about it...? is that 200 words? mabey i should add some more... like Mustangs suck and Imports are awesome and... Camaros suck Imports are better...one more...What the hell domestic cars suck imports are faster!!! :) i bet this dosent even get posted on the sight "too many words" is what the'll say :( oh and u got 2 beat EVERYONE even the wanderers to get the last guy 2 race u. this game is AWESOME!!! despite what i said but if they listen to us then they would be some rich mofo's cus we are the gamers and if we type it then we'll buy it (or our parents will) oh yea this would make it the best racing game ever!!!------> make it so we can play it on the internet and challenge ppl from across the world i would deffantinly (<---is that how u spell that?)buy it then!!! ps. i beat speed king with the CRX i guess that means im THE BEST!!!hahahahahaha. later.
| its a good game | | Jacob from Singapore says (19/Jul/2003): | i recently juz joined a large PS2 gaming magazine company.So with the latest street racing movie "2 fast 2 furious" coming out i decided to review some of the street racing games available.Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero was the first game i reviewed. I took about 7 days to complete the game. At first it was quite exciting beating the cars. But as soon as i realised i had a few 100 more cars to beat, it became a bit of a bore and frustration started to set in. The best things about the games are the graphics, availability of various cars and the modification of the cars. The brake discs actually glowing red due to friction when your car brakes shows you how much effort has been put in to make TERZ the game it is. There are also a large variety of vehicles available. Although it would have been better if the TERZ team could have got image rights of the vehicle brands and included the actual names of the cars, the game is available at a low cost because of that.Modifying of the cars is pretty fun but it would have been better if there were the availability of Nitro. The maps are pretty dull and boring. It gets to your head after screaming at high speeds over and over again on the same roads. I also prefer if there was daylight racing. In that way we could appreciate the details of the graphics of the cars. And y is it so hard to get the wanderers to race you?Here are a few tips.Firstly when you purchase your car, it is important to make all the best improvements available. Make sure you adjust your gear ratios, damper, suspension, turbo settings properly. I prefer putting all the gear ratios at low and the final ratio at the highest. This way when you are in a race with a car with higher horse power, you can catch up with the car faster. car heights should always be put lowest for better center of gravity and stability. Damper settings vary for different cars. You should try out possible settings on your car yourself.The rear ones should always be put hard.The front ones may vary depending on the weight of the cars.Turbo should only be used when you are racing one particular car.If you are planning to go on a shopping spree in beating many cars,it should be put lowest so that the engine would not degrade to fast.When racing more powerful cars than you try racing them at roads with many curves. Rivals usually slow down at curves, so you can have a good chance to overtake them at turns.After you earn millions after beating speed king and white charisma. Use the money to but vehicles of various class. This is because wanderers like to race cars that are equal to or slighly better than them only.

| This game was amazing! | | A gamer from NY,USA says (21/Sep/2003): | When i first heard about this game from a friend i thought it was to good to be true.(Found out about it week and a half ago). But anyways when i got it i couldn't stop playing it. I liked how i had such a wide pick of cars and how i could modify my cars. The ghraphics were good considering the game is 2 years old. The physics, the lighting, and the sense of speed in the game were awsome. This game is almost perfect. There were minor things that could have been improved but not anything worth complaining about. In some of the other reviews some people said the game needs n20, no it doesn't n2o would have ruined this game, n20 is for people who have no skill and need it to catch back up when they are always crashing. Another thing ,the reason why they couldn't use the cars real names is because car companies don't want to look like they are promoting street racing. Anyways if u know your cars like i do you should be able to recognize what cars are what. And if not just go to a web site they 'll have a stratagy guide for ya that lists what cars are what. I asked all my friends to try and beet me on this game and none could. Its usually like that on any type of racing game. Anyway what i am trying to get at is that if they plan on making a sequel i hope they make a version for xbox. So i can play people on Xbox Live cause i want to find somone who can actually be a challenge to me. IF you like this game you will prob love street racing syndicate and need for speed undergound and for the guy who wanted to be able to put neon underglow and decals on there cars ,in these to games coming out after xmas you can. Ive beaten it about three times. Two of the times i had about 20 wanderers left and the last racer, number 400. The last time i beat it, June 28, 2004, i beat every person on that thing, i had about an 80 to 83 percent win percentage and i beat number 400 on my FIRST TRY. He's about four or five times harder than the speed king. I had the speed kings car and had it fully upgaraded except for the level 7 engine, level 8 muffler, and the level 5 body tune. The only advice that i can give to u is that u better hope that number 400 runs into the back of a transfer and after that runs into those yellow things that stick out of the hazard lane on the highways like he did when i straight whooped him. lol. Oh yea and the guy that said he could beat anybody who raced him with that purple meteor car, i would really like to see him race me, Dustin Stephenson, 16, NC, Rockingham Count High School. The best car to start out with is the CE9 or the CE9A, the one thats only about 14,800 or so dollars. Then get the Viper and u can pretty much beat about all those cars that on the straight aways. Then beat the Speed King with the CE9A, the car that u start out with like i did. But to beat the game search for wanderer requirements on a search engine. That is the ONLY way to beat the game cause u wont figure it out on your own, seriously.
| it sucks major butts | | joe momma from alabama, usa says (21/Oct/2003): | this game really sucks major horse butts. the cars are all gay and cost way to damn much. there are not near enough high speed engines or trannies. i mean what kinda of racing game doesnt allow you to accelerate quickly, go at high speeds (130 mph's, watch out grandma here i come!!!!!!!), and the steering is rediculously unreal. these cars corner like a mac truck (car takes wide left and right turns). this game needs more body kits, some more rims and tires, spoilers, and oh did i mention SPEED. the graphics make me feel i am playing a 1928 atari. centipede looks like 999,999,999,999 times better than this sorry, no good for nothin but bad talk, unrealistic, want to be of a so called video "entertainment" game. maybe if it was more realistic and the cars took off quickly, gained speed quickly, handled similar to a real car, and the graphics were anything near twentieth century i might like the game. also street racing is a drag race two cars go as fast as they can down a straight road for a set distance and the first car there wins. in this game the cars seem to go as slow as possible and be on the curviest redneckiest in the mountains "bfe" roads you can possibly think of. this game is straight runny nutty dookie and does not deserve to be on the self at dollar store let alone a wal mart so if i was you i would not waste my time go jack off or something you will be way more entertained i promise

Not only is the game play great, but the realisticness of the driving conditions is right on!! The customising options and engine upgrades kick some major butt! Also, no matter how fast your car is you have to have driving skill to win, I love that, a racing game that takes skill!!!!!!!!!! The dodging of big trucks and other cars is awsome! I also like how they have the, quater mile option in the time trial part of the game! This really lets you tweak your car to get the best accel by altering gear ratios and your cars raw accelleration! The tweaking is another neat thing about this game! You can change everything from your accel, your steering, where the brakes brake the most, your gear ratios, your cars hight off the ground, all the way up to how much power your turbo is pushing out! You can customise your car into a beast, the tweak it into a demon!! I think the best part though is how the game uses the real names of the cars!! Like instead of calling a AE86T hatchback a Terinno, they call it an AE86T!! And the Civic hatchback, is an EG6 like it was always ment to be!!!!!!!!!! Nothing about this game needs to be imporved!! I just wish it could be kept out of the hands of little ricer people who want to put ground effects lighting on the cars! If it could, then it would truely be the best!!!

If you beat the game then you would know about the DATSUN it is the fastest car in the whole game nothing can beat this car buddy!!!!!!. If you think you car is fast prove it What do you run in the 0-400 meter timed run. If you run 10's cool, 9's alright, 8's wow your getting there, 7's your almost there, 6's wow now you may run with Team Dubya. This game is cool the only thing it needs is some American Muscle like Tokyo Extreme Racer 3. That game includes 68'Mach 1, Firebirds, and Vetts now thats what I'm talking about. My Vett kills the imports and shows them what Real American Muscle can do. NOS is nothing compared to an all motor. I've seen alot of race's where it's all motor vs. nos and motor can beat the one's with NOS. If don't believe it then you my friend don't know anything about cars. So people think that you can go past 263 no it's the top speed in the game. and if you have show me i want to see it. Does anyone know when TOKYO EXTREME RACER 01 comes out I wish to Know? The bad stuff is that you cant drag in the quest mode that would of made it beat need for speed underground in my case. STOCK. and if you get a dodge neon SRT-4 for about $20,000 and put about $50,000 it can run the quater in about 8.2 sec. and only spend $70,000 and beat the hell out of a ferrari that costs $200,000. But anyway tokyo extreme racer zero was a kick ass game and i think thay should make a newer more updated version of it. The one thing that is not true by a lang shot is the money thing. motors don't cost $100,000 thay only cost about $6,000-$8,000 for a really god one stock that you can still make better. Overall I give the game about a nine. And as for you Conan O'Brian, you can suck my balls because ferraris and mercades are stupid worthless peices of crap and a big wast of money and time. I could buy a toyota supra twin turbo for about $10,000 used and spend $100,000 on A carbon fiber body and weight reduction ect. It will be a drag car running about 3.9 sec. in the quater mile and still spend less than a stupid ferrari. Tokyo extreme racer zoro is a cool game and should be made into a nother one.

And while we're on the subject of G.T.3. I would like to make a point-Many reviews of this game that I have read (including some of the ones here on this page) compare the game to G.T.3, saying that it isn't as good. I have to say, I think that they are being somewhat unfair! Ok, maybe T.E.R.0.(Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero) doesn't quite measure up to G.T,s standards, but the fact is that they are two completely different styles of game! G.T. is possibly the greatest cuircit racer of all time, but T.E. is a STREET racer (and possibly the greatest one of THOSE of all time!). G.t. allows you to fine-tune your cars engine and performance to the n'th degree, but one of the best things about Tokyo is the fact that you can change the cars APPEARENCE (i.e. spoilers, bonnet, bumpers, etc.) The actual gameplay is fast and furious, classic to the extreme, and most definitely mad!!! The only problem I can find in the game is the Wanderer situation (yes, those wanderers are getting on my nerves too!) But other than that, pure madness, definitely a game to go for! P.S. If ever I find out how to beat the Wanderers I'll let you know! (Please let ME know if YOU do!!!!)

The games bigest down side is its lack of variety, it never changes the streets are beutifuly remodeled but i can only love only tokyo only at night so much and the cars detail is along side GT3 (yes if you really look and know cars) however it gets old to only see the cars ass rear view button would be better then the fun turn signs, also they missed 3 great things that would have made this game one of the best arcade-sim racers for the consle : damege and cops it would be great to watch those beutiful body kits shater in a few hundred pices and if you could battle cops and oponents that would be great fun ... at the same time too... it be great, or what if you saw that cop hit the brakes and your oponent looses bc he got arrested. this is definetly a diffrent type of raceing game and i hope for a second release and maybe this time around they can license the cars to make them as realistic as the curent ones almoust are (they needed to falw each and evry car from the real life one in order to not violate copy rights)

YEAH!!! | | Richi-kun from Van Nuys, CA, USA says (25/May/2004): | Y'all might think the skyline GTR or all the Hondas and JDMs kick ass in TXR Zero(better known as Shutokou Battle Racing Zero in Japan), but you are all forgetting about the best cars in the game which I would say the German cars. The Porsche 911 Turbo is the most unbeatable, even without the final upgrade acquired with the mileage trick. It is invincible, even against the legendary racer from the end of the game. The top speed of the Porsche is 263 mph and it is faster than the Red Devil or Speed King skyline. Besides the Porsche, my favorite car is the BMW M3. Now I don't give a sh*t if you think this car sucks, but it is the best for the Kanjou area and Yokohama area, as long as it is properly tweaked. If this had an internet option (which there is in Japan), I'd whoop your ass with German cars. Now I never said JDMs are inferior 'cause I have respect for these cars because without JDMs, street racing and every other sports cars out there would not have been as popular as they are today. That includes German cars. As of myself, I would have never developed a passion for cars if street racing was never popularized. TXR Zero has kept that feeling inside me that seeks the thrill of street racing and sports cars. Other than that, GERMAN POWER.

| only three still arond to defeat | | anthony thompson from colorado springs colorado, USA says (9/Jun/2005): | ha ha ha ha ha ha i've been going from web site to web site and reading people comments about the game and i would have to agree with them this game kicks < remove me > at $$ this is one of the best racing games i have played. then like my title says i only have three racers to defeat they are a wanderers named ''tommorow again'' and ''loyal kanight'' then like every one else the last racer.so if you have any information on how to defeat these fools post it up on the webb. and just to note that the car i've been using is the speed kings car it has 204, 043 miles on it and during battles no matter how badly i mess up ( which it's kinda hard not to do wheen going 269 mph in the traffic)but yeah the car has 1200 mph and can have mor but its all i need but when you have a car that has that much milage you loose no sp no matter what you do or how far behind you get so it's pretty easy to get a lot of money when you challeng a racer and just stop and go to 7-11 and get a drink or somthing comback and race and win like 30,789 dollars. so if any body knows how to defeat the two wanderers tell me and i'll tell you how to defeat any two wanderers that you havet yet to defeat. thanks

But game is cool | | Clyde Coffee from Orlando (Florida) USA says (15/Sep/2004): | I've been playing this game for like ever and I just noticed the names and embles on the cars are faux.("faux" means "fake", prenounced "foe") See, I was putting a rear bumper on my Mitsubishi Eclipse and I noticed that it said "ESCIPSE", not "ECLIPSE". And the Mitsubishi emble is a triangle. And the same thing with the Nissan Silvia; on the back it said "OLIVIA" instead of "SILVIA". And the Type-R Hondas (ex: Accord EuroR, Integra TypeR) are not Type-Rs; Its Type-P. And you know, the real Honda "H" emble looks something like this:\-/. But all I saw was this:\ /. And tha Accord EuroR,it looks different from the ono on Gran Turismo 3. It looks "fat", ant the tail lights act differently (I like the T-lights). They really screwed up the Lancer Evo III , its really ugly. CRAVE Entertainment made the Evo III look like it crashed into an ugly wall. And they gots this ugly mini van in the class C area. Who in the world would race with a mini van? Whats the deal with all the fake names and embles? Besides all that, The game is really fun and the Wierdos at CRAVE Entertainment need to get the names right in TXR4

Holman from Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories, Canada says (28/Nov/2003): | I have been playing Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero for three and a half weeks, and have tweaked my Skyline to 1015 HP, and can achieve speeds in excess of 270 MPH. The rotary motor cars also are blindingly quick because they lose lots of weight and gain mondo power.
The game absolutely rulz! Red Devil's Skyline is also tweaked and repainted into a black and white highway patrol chase car because when it challenges competitors, it has red high beams, so it just looks cool. It also achieves speeds well in excess of 263 MPH. In fact, my buddy and me raced these cars yesterday in a straight-away, and we were going so fast that the screen rate could not keep up with both of them, and so, we could only see what was exactly right in front of the wheels - the highway itself had turned into a black screen... As a result, I bumped in a turn and lost. TIP: Follow the lines.
All the heavy competitors are beaten, now I am just working on the last few stickers for the Wanderers, but am having trouble defining the preconditions to a race. However, I have a few weeks to do it before picking up Tokyo Extreme Racer 3!

The car was fast, i could push the car up to a high speed. Anyway the game is terrific, i like the graphics especially the replay mode with two nice musics. Besides, the cars are awesome, especially the speed king and the red devil (skykline R34). However, it will be better, if the wanderers could accept my challange without meeting any extra criterias which were quite troublesome. As for my personal overall evaluation, the game is good and it will be the best for those who like street racing and the art of car modification. Anyway, i started the game with evolution 3 because it was cheap and quite powerful for starting. When i have enough money after defeating all the rival, i managed to change a better and more powerful vehicles. Hence, if i can play through internet, because i like beating people out from the game so i can say that it will be a nightmare for those who try to challenge me as your ass will be kicked by my customized "Speed King" a.k.a "Speed Wanderer".

I have a small secret for whom ever cant even get pass a wander maybee you should purchase a gameshark there is a cheat that starts your new game off with 10,000,000 dollars. i havent used it because i was to far in the game just to star over but i would reccomend that to any that is also hust starting the game.The best car to buy is speed king car if you supe it up right it gets to 1200 hp. These are all the reasons i love this game but not better than Grand Theft Auto Vive City Almost though
