way much better than the others |
| Kyle Collins from Kent, England says (1/Oct/2002): |
the game play and player interaction was mies above the rest of the final fantasy games. Most people were taken in by the charm of Final Fantasy 7, but this one is way better with a plot that will suck you in. The development of characters, gameplay and actions allows the game to excel. The graphics of the aeons is far superior to the normal summons in the other final fantasys. And the shear brilliance of the story line makes the game far better than any other.

it was an ok game |
| marty from oroville california USA says (25/Sep/2002): |
i played FFX and 2 things. 1 the game play was coll and everything about it was coll. except for the ending. THE ENDING REALLY SUX. but everything else was fine. i liked the summons and movies in it and the graphics were cool just that i cant get over the ending. in all the other Final Fantasys the endings were the best. well thats it for today.

could have been the gratest game of all time... |
| Omar Makarem from Beyrut, Lebanon says (23/Sep/2002): |
like all final fantasy games FFX is an astonishing breakthrough in both graphics and gameplay. The graphics are so realistic that you'd think you're watching a movie. Detailed facial expressions, great asian ambiance in most places and realistic backrounds are some of the things that make this game a must see graphic wize. The new turn based combat mode gives you time to choose your next steps much better for strategies than the old time based combat. The new character improvement and upgrading by the grid is a fabulous idea.
Many lovely songs in the game some of them based on songs taken from previous FFs.
One thing missing though is the world map. Squaresoft insisted on not including one, but i think they should reconsider because without it the game becomes linear and not too much exploration is available. That very aspect made it unworthy of the greatest game yet title.
Most Importantly the thing you must credit this game is the new DEFINITION that square gives to FANTASY, it is no longer neither the medival princess and knight fantasy, nor futuristic sci-fi fantasy, it is a new more elaborate meaning for this word( in this FF it's a fantasy of a water world like planet where characters can freathe and fight underwater), so by FFXI you might expect anything for a fantasy.

the ultimate in gaming |
| Nick from Swansea - Britain says (28/Aug/2002): |
There are no words to describe how good this game. I have seen this game alone turn people from nintendo diehards to playstation followers. graphics, plot, twists, playability, and the ability to play the game for 100+ hours is easy, this game has it all. Isay buy and experience it for yourself (as long as your willing to give up your social life for a few months, cos it will envelope you.

The Fantasy Continues... |
| Wireless_Genie from Newcastle, UK says (23/Aug/2002): |
After much anticipation and waiting with baited breath, Final Fnatasy X is now in stores smashing the records its predecessors once set. And with little surprise! Square have once again released, not so much a game but, a second life. In this latest installment we join Tidus in his quest to rid the world of an all encompassing evil known only as Sin. After coming in contact with this entity he is sent 1000 years into the future and teams up with a group, fighting to restore peace and order to the land of Spira, and hopefully find the answers to send him home in the process. The first thing you notice in this game is the jaw-dropping graphics. Square have out done themselves. Obviously taking full advantage of the technology developed for the Final Fantasy motion picture, the smallest details in the characters and the landscapes have been created with mouth watering quality, from the individual strands of hair to the bricks in the buildings. The cut scenes too, will have you staring in awe thinking if this really is a game, from the immense blitzball scene at the games start right through the end movie. But then would we expect anything less from square?? In addition to the awesome graphics, Square have finally heard the pleas of FF followers around the globe by adding speech to all the main characters. Although some of the voices can be a little irritable, this feature brings the series to a whole new level and has you connecting to the characters and the story in a way not seen before in a game. The storyline is intricate and vast, leaving you wondering, thinking, and intrigued right through to completion. The writers creation of a whole world, with religions, and histories, almost makes you think that it all happened once upon a time. FFX sees the birth of many new features to the series. The mid-battle character change enables you to have the right character at the right time for any particular monster encounter. The sphere grid, a completely new way of gaining stats and learning abilities, where you get the chance to choose you characters development. Although at first glance it looks complicated, it doesnt take long to master. In many ways FFX can be said to be the greatest FF game yet, but there are a few points that prevent it from getting a coveted 10/10 score. Unlike the previous games, FFX has lost the world map, and to this effect has become quite linear, with your characters being led from place to place. A map in the scren corner indicates where to go in every part of the game, and removes much of the exploratory style to the FF series (although this map can be turned off). The Chocobos, although they are in the game and you can ride them at certain points, do not play as big a role as in the other games much to many gamers dissappointment. The cut scenes, although beautiful to watch, can stretch on at times, and at some points you could spend half an hour just staring at the tv and not playing. The inclusion of a pause function mid scene can be a welcome one at times!
These few gripes aside, FFX is a game all PS2 owners should possess, and if you dont own a PS2, this game makes it worth buying one! But be warned, in buying this game, you are likely to have your summer pass you by, your girlfriend/boyfriend will no doubt forget what you look like and the Ps2 pad will need to be surgically removed from your grasp!!
Its a cracker!

Final Fantacy x, the best game ever! |
| Andrew from happy camp,California,USA says (22/Aug/2002): |
This has very good graphics, especially the Aeons overdrives! It has a very good storyline, and things that you do in the beginning will effect you later on in the game, but tont worry if you miss sometheng because if you do later in the game you can go back and do it again. It is a very long game but that means it will last longer. You get more carachters the further on you are in the game.It also has a lot of minigames, like blitzball or chocoboah riding. In this game most of the carachters have voices. The people who made it did a lot of searching to find the right actors.this game is my best so far.Incase you want to know, the story is about a 17 year old teenager who is a star player at a sport clled Blitzball. Then an evel entaty called sin appears and you and your friend Auron helps you destroy evel fiends until you finally approach sin, and Auron starts talking gibrish and you get sucked into it. After you get out of a tight situation with a race called TheAlBeb you figure out that you are 1000 years in the future but they don't have much technology! Sorry to leave you hanging, but I don't want to give away the rest.

Final Fantasy VII is easily the best final fantasy |
| Craigy Bows from Wales, Swansea says (22/Aug/2002): |
ok this game is really good and i agree but people keep saying that its the best ff out. NO it isn't come on FFVII is the best by far the story line is pretty good on FFX but the story line on FFVII is amazing Seymour isn't evil he sounds like poof Sephiroth would kick his a#s easily. Thats enough about the best game ever FFVII. Right one thing i have to query about is where are the legendary chocobos thats awful that Tidus can't ride chocobos!!. But still it is a class game and Square have suceeded again for making a class game. WELL DONE!!!

Best FF Game ever |
| Dogengenjo from Los Angeles says (19/Aug/2002): |
Final Fantasy has out performed itself with graphics and animations, along with extended role playing story lines that far exceed past, short and dull looking FF games. 10 stars for this. For those who do not care for this game, all I can say is go elsewhere your not a true FF fan!!!
|
worst final fantasy game ever |
| pip! from Riverside, ca, USA says (17/Aug/2002): |
worst final fantasy game ever, they need to go back to the world map, that is what made the ff games classic, I hope square relized that and went back to the classic format for ffXI and ffXII. but the graphics, and voices were a great addition. but i still feel that the game would have been better without the voices, and with a world map.

Best game I have ever played! |
| Dude from San Diego, USA says (13/Aug/2002): |
Whoa! This is definitely the best game I have ever played! The graphics are just so good and the voices are really well done. I think that this game should definitely be the game of the year. I mean, its not everyday that a game comes along that is so good, that its just, well I cant even explain how great I think this game is. And the way that all the characters look so real, is just incredible. I dont know how much time and money Square put into this, but I'll tell you one thing, it was defintiely worth every penny and minute of it!!

Simply the Best |
| Brink from Pittsfield, USA says (8/Aug/2002): |
This game has some of the best graphics that i have ever seen! The characters look semi real in game play and then video scenes they look alive! The hair and the skin and the clothes, all of it looks so real. Like you could reach out and touch tidus' hair. The game is very long and really different from any game on the market now. The characters all have life stories that are hinted at or told, and the way it goes froma dream to reality is sooooo awesome. I love the way the created the whole religion of Yevon and how the summoners work and all. It was like it had always been real, just incorporated into a game. The way they had the characters talking was awesome! Finally! FINALLY they make a game where you hear what they say instead of readin it! The only real problem is with the way they talk. THe lips either don't move with the words or the person didn't move thier lips or barely moved em and they have spoke! I think it to be Quite un-nerving. I rate the game at about a 10.99 that's how good it was. Living dead and sending was cool. They may want to watch out with the sending though...Yuna may be made a new messiah...walking on water and all...jk. I would recommend this game to anyone! the music spheres and video sphers are really awesome. So instead of saving before all those cool scenes then saving on a diff. save block to rewatch that scene you go to the movie place and watche a spher you bought...watch out though they are EXPENSIVE i believe 10,000,000 gill or sumthin llike that.i do not remeber all i know is it was a lot. My favorite scene is when tidus and yuna are in that pond thingy and the song Suki De Na or sumthin like taht is playing. reallly great scene. The wedding scene was awesome too!! The whole game was great. I suggest you get yourself a PS2 and play it!

A different look on a final fantasy |
| Sky from Lowell,USA says (6/Aug/2002): |
I though the games was a blast to play. It had the voice grapics and the video setup that made it go faster instead of reading all the time like in all the other Final Fantasy. The sphere grid is a new out look on the game cause the abilities are harder to get so its fun to play. The aneos were cool to watch and the overdrive were cool to watch with a grandsummon it but gaining it in battle or using boost. The characters were cool I like Tituds the best because you can realite to him like being in a different world at times. Blitz ball was a blast to and the specail techiques made it better to play. The ending of the game was a little bad but it made you think? Was it a dream. Was it real? The final boss was to easy in the game. The sidequests were cool. The best aneo enters I think is Anima. The background on the characters were a in change but they show the real human traits. It was hard getting the crest and sigils but the true players will and have fun doing it. The way the game is lead out in a new and fun way to play the game. The plot with the "ghost" was cool and made you think at the same time. Its not the speed on how you play the its what you feel playing the game. In all the game is a blast to play and makes you think alot about the plot. Have fun and wait for the next to come!

Good game with great graphics! |
| victoria from elk grove, ca says (31/Jul/2002): |
Here's my ups and downs for this game:
UPS: I like the game because of the incredible graphics, voice acting, and battle system. The aeons look great except Bahamut looks like a machine. Spira is beautiful and the graphics of this game just blew me away. I love the blitzball sidequests and able to replay FMVs in Luca. I love Auron because he's tough and he looks cool. He's also the most strongest character in the game. Yuna is beautiful and a talented summoner alongside her young father, Braska. Rikku is a great thief and "cute". Wakka is a good guy to be in the party once he is beefed up. But the only characters i like are Auron, Yuna, And Wakka. Basically because their legendary weapons are easier to get and so are their sigils.
DOWNS: The sphere grid. Okay, we do need something new apart from the junctioning and materia of FF7 and 8. But the sphere grid takes a longer time and it can be slow. Worse, finding the spheres after running out. Tidus is the weakest and "annoying" character of the game. I don't even use him anymore after i beefed up Auron, Yuna, and Wakka. I don't like the way they designed Lulu. Her face and hair is fine, but the rest of her is not okay. Although some "fanboys" may like it.
The Chocobo sidequest is hard (ex: the race) when you're trying to get Tidus's sigil. As a matter of fact, some of the sidequests in this game lack fun and is either tough or boring. Thunder plains sidequest for Lulu is too difficult.
Anyway, to make this short, FFX is a great game with several downsides. After getting everything you needed, it's just not worth playing anymore. FF7 and FF8 are always worth playing even if you won it. Unless you want to replay movies in 10 or play blitzball to win potions is fine. I usually replay movies and go level up for no reason. Same with blitzball. It's too easy. But thank goodness they put that in just in case players get bored. But I think getting the movie spheres in Luca are better.

This is brilliant |
| Jibz21 from London, England says (30/Jul/2002): |
what can i say, simply the words final fantasy should remind you of lost hour spent in front of your playstation and this title will bring those memories flooding back. The squaresoft boys have really pulled another world class game out of the hat. This is somewhat different to it's predessesors as it contains an enhanced battle system. The atb has been disposed of leaving u wiv a turn based battle which is tricky to get the hang of at 1st but after a while u will find that u can use it to ur enemies advantage. This is a cracker that any rpg fan should own. Well wat r u waiting for? Buy it now!

My review |
| Erin from New York City says (30/Jul/2002): |
I personally think that Final Fantasy X is a very good game. I like the characters, storyline, and graphics, and for once, Squaresoft is making a sequel to it. If they do, I hope it is as good and a long game. I hate it when games can be beaten quickly. Final Fantasy X is a must buy and it is so realistic! I have hundreds of hours of that game saved onto my memory card. If you don't have it, buy it. If you have it, play it!

The best RPG Yet |
| A gamer from Lakeland, USA says (25/Jul/2002): |
The thing that stands out most to me in FFX is the storyline. The characters are developed, have personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. You even develop likes and dislikes towards certain characters, I actually found Yuna irritating, despite the tendencies of the main character :). Especially with the voice overs just don't look at their lips when they speak :), this game draws you into the stories. When Auron gave his "Now is the time to shape your stories!" speech, I was actually excited and I felt like tearing the hell out of the next boss. The ending is short, but it can reduce a more sensitive audience to tears because it is so powerful.
Battle System is great. I never liked having to select my Ultima spell in .25 seconds just to get an attack in before the enemy.
Leveling system I like a lot more than other games too. In FF8, I thought the leveling system was too fluid -- every character was almost the same as the next, it only mattered which GF was Junctioned. In FF9, I thought it was too rigid -- every character could only learn his or her specific abilities. The Sphere Grid provides the rigid flexibility that I like.
The mini-game Blitzball is fun up to a certain point, and then it gets too easy (although the card game in previous FF games was the same way). My current hasn't had a goal scored against them in 42 games straight (out of a total of 61). Some of the other mini-games, like the Lightning Dodger, are insanely frusturating (however, they are optional).
Many people dislike the somewhat linear storyline of FFX, but I think it is an advantage. I hated having to roam around the world map to find tiny little pinpoint lighthouses and towns because some clue led to the location. Everything in FFX is easy to find, but still allows for sidequests, mysteries (the airship passwords take a lot of effort to find without a strategy guide), and minigames.

3 words to describe it all |
| Réjean Bissonnette from Dufresne, Manitoba, Canada says (23/Jul/2002): |
What the H*ll happened to the chocobos? confined tracks? WHAT HAPPENED? 6,7,8,9, you could always count on Chocobos for tranportation and whatnot, but all of a sudden it's like they were fired from the "useful role" job. To tell you the truth, i've always been a fan of chocobos in every game i've played. I could start ranting about blitzball but i'm in a good mood and don't feel like talking about it. Here are three words to sum it all up: This game stinks

Final Fantasy X The RPG Gods |
| Neo_Squall from Malaysia says (19/Jul/2002): |
This game is great awesome graphics and amazing story line but the problem is the characters. They look too realistic, while it does look great, it takes some of the mystical fantasy out of the game, maybe if they weren’t so human if they were elves or something it might have looked better but oh well... too late now.
FF series was always the best. The best story the best graphics. FFX is the best though. I love how they can talk on this one. But after playing all the final fantasy games you tend to notice some similarities such as the story always starts out the hero goes on a sojourn that is about him but ends up about saving the world, The hero and the heroin always fall in love, The hero’s weapon is always a sword or dagger, And most of them have a person named Cid in it. But all in all it is a great game.
Graphics, story line, and an awesome new abilities system . What else can you say but WOW! In terms of story line I'm still fighting over whether XI or X was better, and the same goes with the abilities system ,both were much better than the materia system in VII and the junctioning system from VIII, but I'm not sure which I liked better. But one thing is for sure no other FF game can hold a candle to the graphics in X. I also enjoyed the Blitzball, it was entertaining, gave you a chance to customize your team and you got prizes out of it much better than the card game from IX (which I saw absolutely no point in). This is the
best final fantasy game ever!! When I played this game I experienced great graphics, more detail on the characters, and fantastic game play!! This games graphics are like the movie! The best part is the Overdrive that you must see or suffer the major loss ….
A ten star with lots of action. A double thumbs up for the great job of Squaresoft and Final Fantasies are just damned good pack with Aeons that stays in battle to support our heroes . For all RPG DIE HARD FANS that is a must to own a Final Fantasy X or else.

This game is great....buuuut.... |
| Chris Street from Randleman (NC), USA says (17/Jul/2002): |
Like I said, this is an awesome RPG. Who would've guessed: an RPG with NO EXP. POINTS! Interesting concept. I only have a few problems with it: 1)LIP-SYNCING! As people belowV have said, the lip-syncing is AWFUL. It's halfway decent in the real-time parts of the game (if you don't know what that means, you should be shot), and if only one or two people are onscreen and the camara is REALLY close to the speaker's face, but otherwise it sucks. 2)BLITZ. Blitzball is awesome, but I think instead of making it so elaborate in FFX, Squaresoft should have made it a game by itself. 3) The Sphere Grid. It's an awesome thing, to be able to completely control your characters' advancement, but it's a lot to absorb all at once and it isn't explained all that well. With a little fine tuning, say another month or two of development, testing, and revising, FFX would have been perfect. Oh, BTW, an FFVII remake for PS2 would be A-MA-ZING! Are you listening, Sony/Squaresoft??

this game is fantastic it really is |
| chris from Leeds, England says (12/Jul/2002): |
This game has now revelutionised the way we think about rpg games forever as it is top, all aspects of this game have been thought out incredibly it has as much detail and graphic quality as Metal Gear Solid two and about 6 times more gameplay. the voice acting in the game gets a little tedius sometimes and even embarrasing at times but no longer do we have to read boring subtitles allthough many of us still will any way through force of habit. The music in the game is great at times and really adds atmosphere to the gameplay but there are some really horrible peices of music which are played over and over again.the sphere grid adds a nw dimension to the game but i preffered levelling up and junctioning to this particular method. one downside to this game though is the fact there are to many boss battles its as if every odd looking thing in the game has to be beaten as well as the countless boss battles.the storyline is a bit tangled i think square have used a storyline that would really test its software. I think they could have done with keeping it simple though like dare i say ff7, but all in all this is 1 gaming experience you will never forget. just take time out to enjoy the finer things this game has to offer i mean when you walk along the road the grass gently sways, this game is fantastic.
