Da most greatest boxing game of all time!!! |
| Local Lyricist from Uptown, Maryland says (24/Dec/2002): |
This game was so detailed with all the boxer's real life counterparts. Ali has that look about him , like he beat any opponent in front of him. This game has great presentation overall from the beginning to end. I like the intro movie, it shows Ali knocking out variuos boxers in a cinematic way. Thee main menu looks ok(average), but it could've had real boxer's faces at the character select screen. The graphics are nice and crisp. The boxing rings look too authnetic and the crowd is very life-like. Graphics aren't always my main focus, but KK 2002 has the best graphics ever in a boxing game. Most of the real boxers like De La Hoya, Ali, Fraizer, Holyfield, Leonard, Zab Judah, and Lewis look like the real thing. Others like Butterbean, Trinidad, Hopkins, and Tapia look a lil' scary. The exhibition mode, career, tournement, and 2 player mode are simple to start up and play. Gameplay is my main focus in this. The gameplay is great, but it can get very choppy at times. I like to play on the pro level so I except boxers to fight like pros instead of amueturs. My last comment is where da heck is all of the real knockout kings? I was expecting to see Jones Jr., Comocho Jr., Sugar Shane Mosley, Michael Grant, and Mike Tyson. I hate all of those fake boxers too, they are useless in career if u choose them. The create-a-boxer mode is decent, but u can only save one boxer onto the memory card. U can't even customize your boxer's appearance, the game has pre-made boxer looks and u can only give him a last name, change boxer's trunks, gloves, and shoes, develop attributes. In order for your boxer to get 5 stars u have to beat a weight level in career mode and then u can defend your belt, but this game is too underrated. A lot of stuff was left to be desired. EA needs to take more time with boxing and give Madden a break.

These guyes who beat it in career mode on the champion the first time the played it |
| T Man from Pennsylvania says (10/Nov/2002): |
I just read all the reviews, and this is for those people who said they beat it on all levels the first day they had it, TRY CREATING A BOXER AND DOING IT INSTEAD OF USING ALI. Of cousre you'll beat it using ALI he best dam boxer on the game his stats are either in the 90's or 100, try doing it with boxer who has some 80s 70s and 60s. I must say one thing though the graphics are awesome and so is the game play. But without being able to train and continue to build up your stats after you win (you become the champ and defend 5 times) the game becomes useless, unless you got some friends to play against.

GOOD GAMEPLAY BUT TOO EASY |
| JOHN from SYDNEY,AUSTRALIA says (1/Nov/2002): |
first of all, this game has great graphics, game play is not bad, im a boxing fanatic and KOK fan. But i expected it to be alot better then previous ones. Its way too easy, i finished the thing on hardest 1st go on heavyweight, ive had it for a few weeks and ive never been beaten, how can you people say its too hard, unless i got a faulty copy.. I still believe no boxing game is complete without ROY JONES.
and career mode im not gonna even start, i could write a novel on how bad it is. ALL I CAN SAY IS VERY DISSAPOINTED
|
Good but not the best |
| Mikey from Toronto, Ont says (14/Sep/2002): |
Knockout Kings 2002 is better then the previous ones but it's also lacking what some of the things the lasts couple versions had... like clinching, and the training aspects of the games. But overall, the graphic and the AI is amazing.... but the game play is very novice, the day after i purchased it i beat the game in all 3 weight classes on the hardest level... oh well, all and all... this is a great game that i would definitely recommend...
|
This game was great but it could have had a few more things. |
| Zach Dausy from California, USA says (7/Aug/2002): |
First, this game is 10 times better than 2001 in the every possible way. But it was a little annoying how even after you beat Ali you can't continue to build your stats up, and you also can't play as your created character in exhibition or tournament. And the appearence choices? They should have added way more shoes, shorts, tattoos ect. I have two more complaints, once you do complete tournament you can't restart the whole thing with your pumped up character. And I read there were cheats you unlock after beating career and all I have to say is, "huh?" There are no cheats you unlock, I read the option of which cheat you want appears rifgt after you beat it but noooo, it's not there, don't be fooled by this false statement.

great game |
| 9ner boy from roswell, Ga, Usa says (13/Jul/2002): |
Alright i dont know about all these other people but Knockout Kings 2002 is a great game. Yes i know that you cant train your fighter but that doesn't stop me from winning. I made a fighter and i got up all the way to Ali and even there i didn't get killed. Yes he knocked me down a few times, but i still whooped some a$$. Knockout Kings 2001 was good but the new 2002 doesn't even compare to 2001. The graphics are awesome, the boxers are quick, and the realism just increased from the last one. On my scale this game should earn better reviews than it got. Who think they cant beat Ali in the final match... Go practice!

If it ain't broke don't fix it!!! |
| Tha Miz from Pomona,CA,USA says (25/Jun/2002): |
First of all, let me start by saying that when it comes to making any type of sports game I feel that EA has no peer. Especially when it comes to Boxing. I have owned and played all of the previous Knockout Kings for Playstion and PS2. Never was I more disapointed in a game then when I paid $50.00 and got home to play this game. Don't get me wrong, I am more than satisfied with the graphics, but the game play completly sucks. They've made it very difficult to block shots to the head or body. After one punch is thrown your guard goes down. If your opponent throws a combo, LIGHTS OUT. That's unrealistic, if I want to block either my face or head for an entire fight, so be it. They've also made throwing body shots extremely difficult. I get caught trying to throw body shots because they decided to go with half movements of the analog stick. Sometimes he punches, sometime he moves. Also, without the training sessions it's near impossible to develop any rythm or familiarity with the controls. Most boxing experts would say that Ali and Frasier were close on boxing ability( although I would say Ali was much more skilled ), hell Frasier even beat Ali once. During the career mode I used Ali and fought my way to Frasier and beat him by K.O. in the 5th. When I faced Ali (with Ali) I got TKO'd in the 1st round. I'm seriously considering taking the game back at this point. Forget the analog control, give me back L1 & L2 for blocking and body shots. I still can't believe EA released this game as it is. They really jeoparidized the integrity of their title.

what a knockout |
| A gamer from London, England says (17/Jun/2002): |
I feel that knockout kings 2002 is one of the all time best boxing games ever made. It is a real step forward from knockout kings 2001, the graphics are much smoother and the characters look much more like their real life equivalent. I feel that the game would be improved however if it was more realistic and you were always looking for the big knockout punch regardless of the round they are knocked out in. I think the game is better than many previuos outings because the characters styles and stances have been more accurately represented however in past versions the muhammed ali shuffle looked horrible. EA have obviously taken more time creating this version of knockout kings and although the cuts looked excellent in the previous version they are much more realistic this time around. I welcome this step forward in realism unlike games such as ready to rumble boxing. I personally cannot wait for knockout kings 2003 which will bring the genre yet another step forward.
|
Looking forward to KOK 2003 |
| AARON RAMSON from BERMUDA DUNES, CA. U.S.A. says (8/Jun/2002): |
Having been a big fan of the Knockout Kings series, (I own all 3 versions on ps1) as well as a passionate fight fan and amateur boxer, my only complaint about this newest installment is the disappearance of game depth that KOK 2001 possesed. I loved to pretend that the created boxer in KOK 2001 was myself; training in the gym between fights and getting chewed by my cornermen for taking too many hits during a prize fight. I loved the simulation aspect of the game, even though the fighting itself seemed robotic. (the boxers had all the expression of zombies.) I love the facial animations and the fluid movement of newest KOK, but I am EXTREMELY dissapointed that the simulation aspect was removed.I wanted more from this game than an arcade-like experience. If the next installment could bring togeather the simulation of 2001 with the new fighting style of 2002,I would buy it and never leave my home again. PS: I don't know why so many weenies complain this game is too hard.I can beat it on the hardest level (champion) without losing a single fight! All you whiners out there: better do more homework cause I'll take any of you in a game!!!

Very Good Title |
| A gamer from OHIO, USA says (3/May/2002): |
2002 brings lucious graphics, awesome gameplay, and a sense of feel of reality. You box your way through the career mode and a "Created" boxer, but like some said above, Ali is tough, but he was also the greatest boxer ever known... One thing that I didn't like, was you couldn't train your boxer on a heavy bag, or speed bag, but rather gain "15" points to put it wherever you desire. EA also could've made it fun and allow cheat codes without using the darn Gameshark! Bah! But, otherwards, it is a great game, and I'm looking forward to 2003. People that complain about the game, don't know how to box, and they get fed up. Stick with it, you will get better in time, not worse.
|
Knockout Kings 2002 is a great gameit really simultes boxing well.....It hasweakpoints but so does every game! |
| A gamer from England, Somerset says (8/Apr/2002): |
Its a step forward in boxng simulation........the graphics might not be so sharp and the career not so long but the fight engine is great and if there are any other Muhammed Ali fans out there you will agree if you can fight to Ali's style on this game.......
A good thing also is that you can develop your own boxer and fight him against a friends....cuts happen more realistically and stamina is simulated much better!!!!
Overall a good game...

BRING BACK FLASH KNOCKDOWNS!!! |
| chris from fullerton, ca USA says (6/Apr/2002): |
The missing factor in this game that would've somewhat made it a decent simulation boxing game as well as a solid arcade game, is the FLASH KNOCKDOWN feature. What made the KO KINGS series appealing to the true boxing fans is that you can actually score a knockdown or a knockout with just one punch, regardless of how full the health meter is. That is what separates Knockout Kings from any other fighting game. Without the flash knockdown feature, KO Kings is just reduced to another fighting game, minus the kicks and flips and secret moves. Also, fatigue should also be a factor in the game. While your power is reduced if you throw too many punches, your fighter's speed is not affected, turning the game into a button-mashing affair. If there's only one thing that can be added to make this game the best boxing game ever, it would be to bring back the flash knockdown.

find myself yawning after a bit. |
| Corey Douglas from Kelso,Washington, USA says (31/Mar/2002): |
I was an avid fan of Knockout Kings 2001 on ps1, the depth of the game was great. Not much depth here. great graphics and pretty decent moving/punching system, but where is the game? yes the game gets pretty difficult as you rise through the difficulty settings, but no unlockable players, no blast from the past matches, cant create more than one boxer per memory card..etc. etc..wish i would have gotten more for my money.
|
good game overall |
| bp from Hawaii, USA says (29/Mar/2002): |
I think the game is a lot different than the past knockout kings. At first you will think the game isn't that good but as you play the game it is really good. The combos aren't as easy to bring out like in the other knockout kings but there are definetly some great combos in the game. The create a boxer thing still isn't that good but the overall game play of the game is still very good. You have a lot more control of your boxer than in years past. The only junk thing I would say is the boxers that they had in the game. Thought that they could have but someother big named guys in the game. But overall a fun game just takes a little getting used to
|
An OK game |
| James from Columbus, USA says (24/Mar/2002): |
This game doesn't suck that bad and it's not that hard to get past Ali if you get some experience down. The game shouldn't be rated so badly do to lack of features because everyone always says that a good game always boils down to good gameplay. Though there were a lack of features and the slow motion replay on a knockdown (lol) wasn't much to look at the gameplay was good and quick. Also if you do have so much trouble trying to throw special punches and win tough matches then try this. Create a heavyweight (due to the reason that hevyweights a slower) and pick the special macho create your player with a heap of speep and power and when you fight you just unload this special as many times as possible they are defensless NOTE: some lightweights such as leonard can get away from this combo so you might want to work on your gameplay before you get there. Another thing if your'e a beginner and aren't used to the quick gameplay than go into career mode with a 5 star boxer (ali, robinson, leonard) this should give you the feel for the game and you can probably beat yourself in the belt match by the time you get there.

lets be serious |
| steve from indianapolis, indiana says (20/Mar/2002): |
please lets be serious for 5 seconds this game is ridiculous and i mean the look, the feel, the control, and the graphics. the difficulty level is great for real gameplayers. guys who appreciate a tough game will enjoy this and no one has alked about the complete and uncanny feel to controlling your boxer. unlike 01' you actually have to know something about boxing to play this game with true skill. all the pansises who dont know anything about boxing and are just trying to play a game, please step away from the game because it is not meant for u wussies. This is a mans game and it is complete with the most realistic boxing sim ever. The combos have never been more realistic and even though the create a player mode is lacking it still offers an incredibly fun challenge.

There might be hope??? |
| Goalie Man from Batesville, AR USA says (20/Mar/2002): |
Knockout Kings 2002 was a very devastating blow to the series. You couldn't train your fighter in career mode. When you get to Ali and just pounds away at you until you are down and out. I was expecting more from EA, something like 2001, but I was disappointed. Even after 3-4 loses your manager in career mode drops you like a bad habit and you have to create a new character. Another problem were the selection of fighters. Ali was almost a god and, like I said earlier, you can’t build enough states to even compare. I will give credit to EA for improving the graphics of the game. If you look close enough you can see the guys face move when you knock them down. That was a minor help to the game. The new movements of the fighters were also good. You could string combos out all day, until the other fighter pounded you. If EA wants to keep their fans in the Knockout Kings Series, they have a lot of work to do for 2003, if they survive this one. I just hope they are able to improve in some of these areas. If you are a die hard fan of Knockout Kings, then if I was you, I would rent it first. You might be disappointed like me and others.

What was EA thinking. |
| Nittany from Columbus, Ohio says (19/Mar/2002): |
If you read most of the reviews I dont have to say much. Good luck beating Ali in career mode with a made up fighter. You cant even come close to building your fighter near the stats by the time you fight him. This game makes Ready 2 Rumble 2 look sweet. Save your money, im glad I rented this title first
|
I can't believe what I'm reading. |
| Johnny Onthespot from Mobile, Al says (19/Mar/2002): |
Did any of you even play the game with any frequency. Upon my initial play, I would have agreed with most of your comments. But, I've put serious time into it and there is NO way I would go back to the old control system. You cry about lack of combos and realism. I guarantee that I could school any newcomer and barely get touched. There is so much more freedom in the controls and our fights often go the distance and have realistic punch stats. You have to look at it like a rebirth. Was the original Knockout Kings as good as 2001? Nope. Go practice.

Half good Half bad |
| just call me Cyrus from Ohio,USA says (17/Mar/2002): |
Well I would like to start, this game, well, sucked a bit. But don't just go on that. It had it's ups and downs. First the ups: The career mode was pretty weak. The create a character mode was once again a lil down hill but in '02 it went downhill and broke neck. If EA had the gut's to make another KK this should be one of their better areas to work on.The having to win a fight to get character developement points part, just kinda sucked badly.(If you dont know what your doing and you get to Ali he's gonna rock your world due to poor character design and points). The graphics were pretty well done they could have been better (look at Xbox KK2002 graphics). What also was pretty lame was that if you lose three times your manager drops you and your GAME IS OVER. EA could have added pre-fight entrances and more victory dances.I noticed that if your winning the first round then half in the second by the fourth or fifth round the computer makes a huge come back sometimes beats you 'till you start blocking and throw more punches(preferrably one low blow unless you have already abused that previlage). The combos and special punches are a bit slow. Sometimes when u try to pull off a SPECIAL PUNCH the computer sometimes punches you about 3-12 times causing you to not pull off the S.P. and lose some stamina and life(heart).Sometimes on the instant knockdown replay's it doesn't even look like you hit the other character. The facial expressions were pretty well done.It wasn't too shabby. I am not saying you should buy/rent/lol borrow and im not saying you shouldn't. Don't get me wrong;sure it has it's flaws but the game is still pretty good so i gave the game a 5/10 it's half good and then it's half bad. But hey it's not up to me it's up to you to decide. PEACE!
