the Best fighter outhere at the moment (besides Evolution) |
| Dan. from Sweden. says (1/Oct/2003): |
the game is not basher friendly, unlike games like SC2 - anyone who says that game is basher friendly has not tried it out. The game got more strategy per character then some games have as a whole - with all the reversals, throw escapes, stances, combos, counters, counter combos (most combos are), throws (way more then most games) and traning mode. No it often takes years to get good in VF, and thats the main problem of the game - it doesn't look like much, but onces you have worked through the shell and starts to understand the game mechanics - woooha!
That said there is still some problems, like how the character looks like dolls, or how some medium hits looks like some low hits, or rather some low hits looks like medium hits - anyway some quirks in the game are stuff you must simply work around - and that is tiresom.
But once you learn to block most hits, throw around people in a 2 throw combo, fit in 3 or more moves to make 5+ combos, escape throws, escape bad landings, escape damage, use reversals, and know the 100 moves each character have inside out you know that no othergame can stand up to VF.

I think this is a classic! |
| Aaron Brzeski from West bend,wisconsin,usa says (29/Mar/2002): |
This games graphics and sound is like your actually in the background. The gameplay is great! I love all the moves. This game is no doubt the best fighting game in history.

| Joey Bolzenius from Columbus, Ohio says (14/Feb/2003): |
Anyone who gives this game lower than a 10 should be placed in a mental institution! Gosh darnit this game deserves a 1 million!!! This game is perfect in every single freaking freaking freaking way!!!!! It is the first video game that I have played for more than five hours at a time other than an annoying rpg. The graphics are freaking amazing and gosh darnit I love the moves! There is nothing I reapeat NOTHING wrong with this game! It is perfect!! Except for the fact of one tiny tiny thing. It doesn't have any cg cutscenes. But that is it!

SWEET......... |
| Howard Wong from San Jose, California says (19/Mar/2002): |
This game is sweet man, it has one of the best graphics for the Playstation 2 fighting games, and it has this sweet sweet mode called the Kumite Mode which allows you to make or custormize a player. One of the faces I don't like is Jeffry Mcwild, so I struck a motorcycle helmet over his head, and it looks so funny. Well anyways get this game if you don't because this is a must get game for all playstation 2 owner!!!!

Interesting |
| Chuck2018 from Rochester (NY) says (21/Mar/2002): |
I am glad this game took a training route. All the other fighters will be fighters with very little depth past secret characters and silly side quests. This game is probably the best "realistic" fighter we have had since Bushido Blade first hit the scene. I say rock on baby, this game will keep you and your friends busy for a while.

Virtua Fighter 4 is great. |
| Roger from Columbus Ohio, USA says (22/Mar/2002): |
This is a great game because it has the best graphics I've ever seen on a fighting game. The cloths move like real life. The details on the boards expecially the water board looks killer. They say there are jaggies but I don't see any jaggies what so ever. Being able to edit your own character to make him look the way you want is just straight up cool. I also like Kumite mode because you use your own character and fight with him in ranking matches and once get a certain rank you unlock stuff to edit your characters look.

Best Ever! I Swear To God! |
| Daniel Wysocki from Cheektowaga, NY, USA says (24/Mar/2002): |
Virtua Fighter 4 takes the style of Street Fighter and combines it with the technology of modern computer graphics. The characters, fighting styles and locations were very well thought up and not a single stone was left unturned. Please God, let there be a Virtua Fighter 5 coming in the future!

Great, but not so fun game |
| Andrew from California says (29/Mar/2002): |
When playing a game, the way I determine how good it is, is how much fun I have playing it. I didn't have much fun with this game, and actually got tired of it in about less than an hour. Everything else is great.

Good looks and good sound, horrible play |
| Ganthrinor from Moab UT USA says (5/May/2002): |
The game looks good, sounds good, but the gameplay is horrendous. This is the first Virtua Fighter game I've played, so maybe the control style doesn't seem all that odd to other people. ONE PUNCH BUTTON IS ENOUGH. I myself favor the Tekken format. LP RP LK RK. none of this 'whatever we want it to be as he stands this way' crap. Anyway, Gameplay sucks. And there's no ending movies. If you gotta buy this, the ONLY redeeming factor is Kumite; if you can handle the gameplay. I'm currently selling my copy for 5 bucks on the street.

Still old fashion |
| A gamer from Jönköping, Sweden says (17/Jul/2002): |
The newest in virtua fighter series and the best so far. New characters, improved graphics but the rest is like the same. I mean the same old sounds, physics and controls. Some bugs in the physics still remains. Bugs like during ring out, the character sometimes takes a few steps in the air before falling. And hitting a character in air during combo, the falling character also restart the "taking hit" animation just in all other fightgames (1 fps bug). Punching and kicking usually hits right thru the character exactly in all fightgames. And still, blocking isn't working holding backwards is the most annoying part. You must hold a button to block just in the old virtua fighter games. But this game really does have a lifespan. It takes days or even months just to learn one character and to collect all the items for your character. You can customize your clothes and outfit just the way you like with the items you have collected. A newbie player cannot defeat a skilled player in this game which is good. Not like in "Tekken" or "Dead or Alive", there everyone can be a winner. Well, there are no perfect fightgames yet. "Virtua Fighter 4" is the best in virtua fighter series but I think "Dead or Alive 3" is still the leading fightgame right now.

needs improvement in graphics and fighting moves |
| tashi yezer and jamyang p from bhutan says (24/Feb/2003): |
Some of the fighters like Akira who is worse than shakira has to have some good moves and styles. The graphics are just OK which needs improvement like tekken. The moves are too easy that even a small child can win over a big guy. It has got no good endings and has no meaning of fighting. On contrary tekken has got all the backgrounds and stories of each fighters which makes the game more thrilling. So it would be a lot better if the sega company could make some improvements in the game. THNX.

It is NOT DESIGNED FOR STUPID |
| Mye from Manchester,UK says (27/Nov/2003): |

Virtua Fighter 4 - a great game. |
| Martin Nunez from Long Beach, CA USA says (21/Mar/2002): |
Well Virtua Fighter 4 is a very good game the presentation is well done, you can tell in the interface. So is the stage design. (you can tell that they took there time on it) ign.com said that the jaggies were horrible but really I don't even notice them, the graphics are smooth and breathtaking. You leave steps in the snow kick up sand and your clothes moves respectively. The modes are and extra for added replay value especially the customize your own character one, and train your own ai character. But the game really shines in game play addictive versatile gameplay. Every character has a completely different fighting style. My only beef with it is that you can't use your analog control. And it would be cool to set the option to NO RING OUT, and infinite time, online play, or japanese audio, but you can't and really it doesn't bring the game down if anything the time limit and ring outs makes you use more strategy. This is a great game to kick in the release of Tekken 4, Soul Calibur 2, and the others. Maybe this will end up being the best.

why did i waste my money?! |
| thanh from Boston, MA , USA says (7/Aug/2002): |
This game is horrible, the breaking of the backgrounds are pretty good but all the rest of the game just so plain. One punch and one kick. I don't know, maybe its just me. I prefer the control of tekken, street fighter, mortal kombat, and even soul calibur. Something that prevents button smashing and then high-five your buddies after your opponent blocks ever single hit but slipped out of the ring. what kind of victoy is that? the moves are like p,p,p,<-K...or p,p,<-p,k,k...any 4 year old can pull those off. I think the gameplay is bad. I think i'm the only one who think the graphics are bad. look at the replays and the faster fight poses...you can see all the polygons on their faces and blocky knee, and all i heard about was the costume designs. All you really need is one polygon and have different designs on them. I think this game is over-rated big time, one more thing. NO STORY LINE! there's no endings or intros. I don't even know why i'm fighting. why are they there? they just got together and started fighting for no reason? man, this game is missing all the basics. why have all these modes when you can't even make a simple ending movie for each character. I don't think there's any movie clips for the game besides the intro at the begining when you sit there and not press start. I gave it a 3 because it did boot up and it did contain what it promised, fighters and good backgrounds.

5 Stars |
| A gamer says (18/Apr/2003): |
Virtua fighter 4 is an o.k game.
The moves kinda stink but that is really the only thing that needs changing! If there is a Virtua Fighter 5 this game needs a sexy women you can fight with and you can create your own fighter without a memory card! (cause i don't have one)
The reason i gave only 5 stars is because of the moves and the end poses. The end poses reallt stink they need to have at least five different ones. You have a 50/50 chance there guys GOOD GAME!

A magnificent Game indeed |
| Fbender from Forest Hills, Newyork,USA says (28/May/2003): |
I was always a virtual fighter fan and i loved all the games. When the second and third virtual fighter game came out i thought it was just the same but when Virtual fighter 4 came out i was like OMG the graphics are better the gameplay is good and it was so realistic. The best thing about Virtual fighter 4 is the movement and counters i mean what other fighting game has the perfect balance of stuff like this.VF4 made alot of games look like crap.Just look at akira he is well designed and his moves are choreographed perfectly. What more do you need in a fighting game then that?

playing this game is like playing ps1 |
| jam.pal. from bhutan says (13/Feb/2003): |
my money is wasted. this game is the worst of all fighting games, in fact worst of all ps2 games. so gamers it would be a good choice to forget to buy it. this game sucks!! tekken is much much much much better. i really regret buying this game and for sacrifying metal gear.
