Best Racing Game To Date No Lie! | | Cody from USA says (12/Dec/2002): | I cant see where people think this game is crap. I mean how could you. Lets just say i bought this game right when it came out and its still my favorite. Now lets get to the actual game.
Gameplay - The gameplay is great with over 45+ cars and many tracks. I dont get why people compare this to Grand Turismo. For example people wine about how there isnt 150+ cars in this game. Well for one half of these cars dont suck like in grand turismo, and number 2 who wants to make that many when maybe 1 person out of 10 would unlock them all. people just need to stop complaining. The game has minor slowdown is none at all. The game always runs smooth and never lacks the excitmeant of being slamed around by cops or on the other hand doing the slamming. There are many different modes to choose from including *Hot Persuit* *Knockout* *Single Race* and many more. The game takes a different aproch by making the player complete certain objectives in order to unlock more as well as cars and tracks. Its called a grid and there is one for just racing and hot persuit. When you are playing you have a great feeling of speed, its about the same feeling as Test Drive if you have played it. And for all you people think that this game is boring, just wait until you get the Ferrarri F50 get ready for some fun!
Graphics - In my opinion this game has better graphics than any racing game to date. Everything is very smooth and there are no jaggies. The cars are very detailed right down to the little guy inside shifting. People who say the games graphics suck are eather mad because they dont want a racing game any better than Grand Turismo or there just mad because they cant beat it.
Controls - The games controls are top notch. The cars handle very percise and you never have any problems with them. The cars handle very realisticly but yet not enough to make you slow down to 10mph just to make a turn. And if your having any trouble with the controls just pick Extreme other than Normal and your problems will be solved.
Sound - I love it. Every car sounds differently from the Horns to the cops sirens everyhting is crystal clear. If you turn the music off you can hear the glass shatter as you hit a wall or in other words as you force the cop into a tree or on comming traffic at about 150+.
Overall - This game is a great buy for all ages. I recommend it for anyone who is tired of a normal racing game and wants some major action. So go out and buy it aand see what i mean, trust me you wolnt be dissopointed.
| Ferrari, Red Hot Game! | | J. Contreras from Norwalk(CA) Los Angeles County says (4/Oct/2002): | Need for speed hot prusuit 2 for the ps2, Wow what an excelent experince. The game is just plane fun to play. One might think that this game could start out boring like other racing games. But after you figure out the menu and the options that your given the game takes off.
Racing in compition mode is excelent and all around satifiying. After wining a few races and aquire cars thats when it realy starts to take off. When you acquire the Ferrari F50 you will know what its like to fly.
The cars are excelently modeled, they may need some more work but are nicely detailed as fare as proportions and sound, that is the sound of the engine. You want to talk about enviroment. Its finely detailed and a pleasure to dirve through at a hundred and eightyfive mphs. The cops in the game are smart and entertaining.
There are pleanty of hiden cars to have you coming back for more. The music in the game can use some retooling. I personaly dont want to listen to EA try and sell my some sucky music. At some point the music dosent match the action. Lets talk about the drivers for a second, the could use a lot of work. The drivers look lik the cool guys from those old 80's teen movies.
Personaly if i could buy the cars and fix them up would make me feel closer to the cars like in Gran Turismo(the greatest car game thus far, or atleast until GT4 comes out) and changing parts and oil would make one feel like a dooting father watching over your little red stalion 360.
Maybe they should let use pick what the driver is going to look like you know like in the Sims. Well you cant have it all.
Any ways back to the good aspects of the game. The selection of exotic cars is excelent, the could have some more Ferraris and more Lamborginis that could work, you know some older ones like the F40 and the other ones they had in the first NFS titles.
The game dose have a problem on PS2 at least, runing smoothly in the title menue it look as though some one is playing with the pause botton on the VCR( yes I still have one). But all in all im having a heck of a time racing and after im done with this im going back and playing some more......got to go later.
P.S. Sorry about the spelling
California Education.
| Can YOU feel the Need for SPEED? | | Nathan Sweeney says (4/Oct/2002): | All that I can say is WOW. This game is excellent. I just purchased the game today(after waiting for months as the relase date was continually pushed back). After playing it, I am confident that it is the best arcade racer on PS2 so far, just as MFS 4 High Stakes was the best arcase racer on PSX. The cars are nicely detailed. Especially nice it the gauges different for all cars on the first person view. It would have been nice to show the whole steering wheel and instrument cluster for a more realistic look, but I suppose that it was not possible. Engine sounds are very nice. Ranges go from the V8 rumble at idle to the I4 scream at redline. Tire screeching could be better, but not at all bad. Music leaves something to be desired, although a few of the tracks are ok. Be sure to go into options and you will find a few songs that are not turned on. The best part, of course, is the hot pursuit mode. One good thing is that you are able to put police cruisers out of commission if you can get them to run into a wall or ditch or the like. The helicopter will drop some sort of explosive divices in your path if you get them mad enough. Needless to say, not a good thing if you like the appearance of the car. Game play is challenging. You win races and in doing so, you get "NFS Points". These points add up and allow you to unlock the new tracks and new cars, of which there are an abundance. So far I have not been able to unlock anything, because most of the 2 hours that I have played so far have been to get the feel for the physics and just screw around and crash into things. All in all, I highly reccomend this game, especially for fans of arcade racing. If you enjoy simulation, go with GT3 Aspec, which is also a great game. I give this game the following score:
Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 8/10
Game Play: 10/10
Re-play: 10/10
Overall: 9.5/10
| EA Games zooms to the finish line ahead of GT3, Test Drive, and Burnout. | | Loco from Jersey City, NJ says (27/Dec/2002): | This game is awsome, fast, quick, exciting, and never gets boring. The features that I really liked on this game were the shortcuts, and the matrix thing where u could look behind your car to see cops chasing you. The graphics are very good looking, but not as good as GT3. All of the cars look detailed and great. The also handle realisticly and decent. There isn't one car that is too slow, but there are very fast cars. The only part of this game that fustrates is the A.I. racers and course designs. Sometimes I find myself crashing a lot when turning into some shortcuts and the traffic kind of collides with you. The courses look great and detailed, but they don't compare to Test Drive's course in scenery and look. This game beats all of the other racers in the fun aspect. It's funner that GT3 and Test Drive. The sound is definitely a plus. Engines sound rugged, swift, and arcadish. I like the crashes too, but they get to be choppy at times. The sound of the horns and sirens and police cars are great. The soundtrack is kind of weak to me. EA didn't get that Road Rash 3-D type of soundtrack. Some of the songs sound like something off of a NASCAR game. Anywayz, the gameplay, sound, graphics, 2-player mode, and championship, and etc. are all above average. This game does sometimes leave you feeling that more could've been added like upgraded car parts, course design, and jumping on top of opponents' cars off a ramp, but the game is better than I thought it would be. Last, EA really did some homework and figured out how to make a good racer, but it won't be as classic as the old Need For Speed series.
| BEST Racing GAME EVER | | A gamer from Oxford, USA says (5/Mar/2003): | need for speed is the best racing game requied. i think all sports fans should have these game for Ps2. the game has awsome graphics and good racing style. the other great thing about this game is that the cops chase you until you get busted or you are really good of getting the cops off of you when your racing. also the game is not very easy to beat it takes days or even mounths or years. the realism is really good on Need for speed hot pursuit 2. the games sound also is really good. the cars in this game are sweet in this game because the cars look like real cars in the world today. even my whole family plays these game a lot even on the weekends. the other thing is that all of my friends also love to play this game with me. my friends and me always have races together to see who is the best racer. sometimes my dad and sisiter play with me and my friends. i think Ea games should keep on making Need for Speed games for play station 2. only one bad thing about this game is they should make this game for all playing systems. also a bad thing about this game is that it should have up to four players instead of two. in all of the rating info i would give this a game a big big 10. thats why i think this game should get a 10 in its rating.
| The Gameplay Is outstanding it will leave you sitting for hours | | Playa _420 from Mukilteo,WA USA says (11/Oct/2002): | Need for speed HP2 is unbelieveably the most fun game to play if you like speed this is the game to play/buy the graphics are 100% better then any of the rest, i suggest this game to thousands of race fans, thing i like most about the game is how there is challenge, some of the racing games are easy and take no time what so ever to beat, but this game offers the diffiulty to fit any racers taste. Another thing about the game is the levels and open roads i mean it sucks to just stay on the road and hit the rails or something, but a optional path is always nice to have, plus the air you catch and the camara angles when you catch big air it is like The Matrix it's fat. Overall this game gets a deffinate 10.Also the game features the cop chase, the hellicopter is a new effect that is awsome, its like all outs on Cops on Tv where they have a hellicopter overhead that is a cool effect that made the game just that much cooler, the spike strips are better detailed, and its realistic when you pop a tire the sparks fly all over, slowing you down but not to a complete stop unless you let go of the button but if you keep pressing the button and trying to go you just might be sucsessful. Good job on the game you guys did outstanding!
| People, what are you thinking? Are you blind? Comparing apples to oranges? | | The Ronnerman says (17/Dec/2002): | Fun factor is high but not realistic AT ALL!! HP2 IS a good game. It's fun and has a few cars GT3 doesn't that I really like, i.e. CLK-GTR. I also like HP mode and graphics are decent, but You ppl need to go back and watch replays of Gran Turismo 3, b/c that game looks way better and has more realistic handling and tuning. That is what REAL racing is like. HP2 is just an arcade racer, Gran (NOT GRAND, you idiots) Turismo 3 is a SIM-U-LATOR!! That is a fact. It means it's designed to be realistic. The ppl who say HP2 has better graphics or calls GT3 "Grand" Turismo obviously hasn't played the game and therefore can't make a proper judgement, or are total idiots. The handling in HP2 isn't realistic at all. You can't take a corner at 200mph like that, not even in THOSE cars. The models are attractive and the game IS fun, but don't compare it to a sim racer that is so obviously better, unless you're blind or 10yrs old or have never driven a car in real life b4. Look at the sales, ppl!! Until GTA3 came along, Gran Turismo 3 was the best selling game for PS2, something that will never happen with HP2! If you're thinking of buying this game, it's a go! But don't expect realism or anything similar to GT3.
| Da best racing game out...period! | | Jordan Stafford from Muncie, Indiana, U.S. of A. says (25/Feb/2003): | The game, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2, has great graphics, awesome cars, and killer songs to go along with it. Even though the backgrounds are not exactly the "best," they are still an improvement compared to the original Need For Speed Hot Pursuit game. I like the setup of the game; expecially being able to drive a cop car, yet not be a cop. "Grand Turismo 3 is not even comparable to this game, although I liked the game, it isn't anything like Hot Pursuit 2." I liked the "Ultimate Racer" mode because it has a lot of different features such as "Tournament Racing" and a feature that lets the cops chase after you, having helicopters bomb you, swirving and swirling around spike strips and road blocks; I have one thing to say to you..."it's all good!"
I also liked the fact that you can..."turn the tables" and become the cop and chase racing vehicles; being the cop also gives you advantage of features no other mode lets you have including having helicopters bomb the place, setting spike strips and road blocks, and having rocket boosters on your car that make you catch up with anyone in about half a second so you can get MAJOR REVENGE and MAJOR AIR...It IS trully," ALL GOOD!"
| Amazing game, but with a few dumb issues. | | Jose Thomas from Millis, MA says (6/Oct/2002): | This game is absolutely amazing. I've owned all the Need For Speed game series from the first one on the PC. The graphics are unbelievable. Hooked up to a 50” tv, the jaggies which affect some PS2 games are easily visible. No big deal though. With most other racing games, you just know how fast you’re going by looking at the speedometer. In this game, you can actually feel it. Since the PS2 is powerful enough to render all the graphics, the car actually seems fast. I don’t understand why the main menus are slow. I figured it was a scratched disc or something, but it wasn’t. I guess others are having this problem. No big deal, but EA should have fixed this before releasing the game becuase its just a stupid mistake. Sound is great. I have the dolby digital hooked up to my 5.1 speaker system. Also I have the Logitech Force feedback steering wheel. Works great with this game. The different ground textures can be felt. Default controls for this game with the regular controller is perfect. Music, I wish they had a broader variety. If you are a fan of the NFS series or a racing fan, defiantly get this game
| NFS on PS2 and this is all?? | | Michael Duffy from Seattle, USA says (25/Nov/2002): | A game worth having, but I wanted one worth stealing money from your grandma for. Maybe I am spoilt, maybe I expect too much, but I did think that on a new console the NFS team would have brought out something that far surpassed it's previous games all of which were great. Great graphics?? OF course!!! You have a new console with a new graphics engine! Too many people are praising what should have been a no brainer. It is the evolution of complexity and driver option and re-playability that needs to evolve. As a game that is geared for 2 player it was very limited with it's two player options. Don't get me wrong it is a top 10 game but come on guys lets not golf clap every game that comes out because a new console made it "look" good, we want cutting edge from the companies that we know can produce it. I dont want to say, "yeah good game". I want to wipe the bugs from my teeth as I howl and scream with awe and when I finish a lap actually find myself reaching for my virtual seatbelt. Take this as a motivational speech rather than a complaint coz I am a loyal EA fan.
| not enough replay value :-/ | | Zach_ZT4 from Illinois, USA says (16/Oct/2002): | Well, I started this game on Sunday, October 6th. Now, either i'm just really good at video games, or the game is not hard enough. It may be a combination of both. In my opinion, the game is not long enough. I've already unlocked all the 49 cars, and I've unlocked all the tracks, and beaten all the events. Now keep in mind, I did this in between hanging out with friends and still going to school, and working, and sleep, and lots of homework. And the game only took me a week and 3 days to complete. In my opinion, that's not long enough. I went through all the events without having to retry them. The hardest thing was trying to get a race with 8 clean laps, but i did it on my first try. Is anyone else having this problem, because it might just be me... anyway, the ps2 version IS better than the Xbox because the Xbox version will start to get choppy when a lot of stuff is going on, whereas the ps2 will not. So, if you thought this game was easy, too, please e-mail me at Zach_ZT4< remove me > at hotmail.com This is a great game, but just a little too easy for me... later on...
| This game rocks! | | The Racing Kid from New Jersey says (11/Oct/2002): | Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 (NFS2) is the best game ever! I thought Gran Turismo 3 (GT3) was good but compared to this GT3 sucks. I have one complaint about this game though not enough cars. The graphics in NFS2 are amazing, the sound is a bit sketchy though. I recommend this game to anyone and everyone. I like the part with the cops they are awesome! They ram you, put spike strips out and have helicopters chase you down and drop barrels in front of you! The one bad part about the cops is that the helicopter can drop spike strips right in front of you. You're the cop mode is simply the best. I got the Lamborghini Murcielago cop car up to 247 mph! The McLaren F1 is awesome it's kinda tough to unlock though. I have 28 of the 49 cars unlocked and all are awesome. I was wondering if any body had a car list of the cars though? I will make one up when I unlock them all. I used exactly 200 words. Until then I'll keep on racing and one more question for all of you. Do YOU feel the Need For Speed? I used exactly 200 words like they said to.
| NFS HP2 great game | | Jay from KS USA says (7/Mar/2003): | This game is a very good game. Nothing compares to the realistic part about the cops, helicopters, road blocks. The only thing that needs to be different is the way you car looks when you crash. The only thing that happens is you get cracked glass. We need a little bit more realistic in that part of the game. This game is very intertaining for everybody. If anybody thinks any other racing game is better than this game. I think you're all crazy. I this is the best racing game that has been made so far. Now if the people make a new NFS they need a little more realistic than this one. I gave this game an eight because as most of you know your car looks good when you hit a wall, tree, rock, or any other object at 185 mph you only get a cracked windshield. I highly recommend this game to anybody that like a fast racing game. This game is going to keep you playing it for a very long time. If you are a person who doesn't like it then you don't know what a real racing game is. So get out there and buy it now.
| A must have for PS2 | | Paul from Eureka Ca, USA says (13/Apr/2003): | I have rented NFSHP2 and I know I will buy it now. The graphics, the challenge, the music, Is top chioce as far as I'm concerned. I'a new to this PS2, so I guess I'm a rookie, But this game has me playing so much that I have the pain in my thumbs from pressing the button so much. Now I see what all the Rave is about when Playing these games, It made me focus on the game, I was really their, and when I hit a wall, I actually jumped from the shock of a dead stop. This Game is awesome. I have played to where I have lost track of time. their are so many options, the challenge mode, Hot pusuit , freerace. and on, and on. I thought I was adicted before, Now I have to take a day to let my thumbs recoupe. This game makes me want the driving kit for my PS2. finding the shortcuts while crashing is awesome, just when I think I'm last. the shortcuts put me back in first place, You Just never know with this game so you have to drive to the finish. Awesome work by these guys,
| AAAHHHH!!!!! I KAN'T GO TO SLEEP!!!!!!! | | Djwildcartoon from Gwinn,MI says (8/Jun/2003): | first off let me say Thank you for the ppl that made this game.I kan't stop playin it in fact i haven't slept in 2days that how good this game is,And i am a Big NFS FAN i have all the games from NFS 1 to This new one i love them, anyways the tracks on this game Are something esle i had a hard time keeping up with the computer and i'm an expert at racing games,And the cars MAN!!!,I like the idea about having the ferrari spider on this gamei love it,also the porsche new concept car,and when you damge your car it's funny but they need to add more damge to the car then it would life like if thats what they we're trying to do in this game.also the cop car F**kin Bad i love the new cop cars i love being the cop and also i love losing the cop in hot pursuit mode. Also the short cuts i love the short cuts on this game. One more thing If you have $50.00 buy this game or even rent it to see for yourself so long Djwildcartoon A big fan of NFS
| Great Game | | DillFi from PA says (24/Jan/2003): | Hey Chrat a clean race means you cant crash. You cant touch the wall or other cars. But going off road, hard landings after jumps, and hitting signs is ok. Any way I have to say that it is a great game. When I use it on a HDTV i forget that it isnt TV. The graphics are realistic. The engines sound the same for all the cars, to bad, you forget about it when you get stuck into the game, it has an ok sound track, there are more songs but u you have to turn them on in the options menu. This game is just mad fun. And the multiplayer, dont even ask you NEED to play this game with a friend!
| THIS GAME IS DA BOMB!!!!!!!! | | Cody Haberle from PCB Florida, USA says (14/Apr/2003): | This game is so awesome! I mean, the graphics could meet, no, not meet, BEAT those of GT3! This game is very challenging. It has my absolute favorite cars.(Mclaren F1, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc.) I don't know why some people don't like this game. I think that GT3 is kinda boring because there is no damage, and you spend most of your time tuning your car! NFS HP2 is the best racing game ever! I could play for hours on end! The music is awesome too. The car speed is realistic too. Mclaren F1 goes exactly 240.3 MPH., In the game, it goes 240! How much more realistic can you get!? In GT3, one car goes about 900mph! DING DONG! NOT REAL! Only rocket cars can do that. I mean, GT3 is ok, but NFS HP2 is the best racing game ever! No doubt about it. So, if you got about $40-50 to spend, GET THIS GAME! (If you don't, you'll regret it!)
| Better and Better | | A gamer from Alabama, USA says (13/Oct/2002): | This game is obviously going to be better than the other NFS games graphic wise, but the gameplay is really good. But there are some things that I think are missing: Only player 1 can be the cop in You're A Cop mode, it should definately be a coop or something. Not as big of a variety of makes of cars than there should have been and whats up with having to unlock all the other cars and tracks some of those shouldn't have to be unlocked. Also I think NFS should have used some of the same tracks and cars from the old games. There should also be a larger variety of colors for the cars. There isn't really a good Championship mode or whatever.Anyway overall its the best racing game i have played in a long time, but NFS just listen to allthese people and make a number 3 very soon with us in mind.
| Full speed ahead, but just a hair short | | Cnote from Detroit, MI USA says (13/Oct/2003): | I just recently finished the game (by this I mean unlocking all tracks and cars) and somehow I feel as if something is inherently missing. I don't have the urge to "just" race as I did with the previous game. (NFS III) The tracks don't really excite me all that much and there doesn’t seem to anything left to strive for. Ultimately, it seems as if the designers didn't bother to add some hidden "fun stuff" like wack cars or hidden tracks, which is beyond me. For the first NFS game on the PS2 format you think they would have gone all out. Someone at EA should be taken to task for that one. There was also NO master password for unlocking everything, which frustrates me to no end. Maybe the next game NFS underground will have some goodies (??) One can only hope
| This game simply R O C K S ! ! ! ! ! ! | | Sahil from Bombay,India says (20/Mar/2004): | First off I wanna thank all the guys of electronic arts and black box who have made this game. The graphics are extremely superb and the tracks are marvellous. The nfs:verion carsare also rad.Its a MUST buy for the playstation 2.I am simply addicted to this game. All said and done, this game is worth its price and simply is the best racing game out there. You must buy this game ...maybe your people will also like it.Its a complete entertainer.Oh yeah!I even like the lamborghini murciealago and diablo although the SV version was better than VT version.Anyways its a cool game and you dont need a reason not to buy the game because its so cool.Lastly THANKS A LOT AGAIN GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
