The Best |

This game is one of the best if not the best game that PS2 came out with. The characters look exactly like the real fighters and they have their real signature moves. I own this game and some other fighting game, but this one stands out the most. The graphics are great and nice. You should get this game. I'll guarantee that you will enjoy it.

Good game could be so much better with in depth character creation. |

Just traded in some games towards the purchase of UFC. I enjoy the gameplay and comparable actions to real time disciplined fighting. I am a little confused as a result of the game hinting at moves that I cannot figure out how to produce. Such as stun, front side back step moves. Some moves seem random, but I may just have not played long enough. This game could be a great addition to the fighting gamer if... IF it allowed for in depth character creation. Haven't seen a better char creater than WWF Smackdown yet... and smackdown is ok gameplay with but the character creation makes it awesome! Characters on UFC look a little cheesy when first entering octagon. Also the blood meter seems to have little effect except for producing some ketchup blotches on the ground. With better injury detail and character creation this game could easily be 10.

Could have been better |

I bought the game as soon as it came out. I should have rented it first. The game is a little shallow, I wish crave would have put a little more time into the game play. The control is excellent but the differents from one fighter to another isn't much, should have been a lot more thought put into the different styles of fighters. Each fighting style should have better moves.

Good game but need some polish |

I rented this game before I would consider buying it and I have to say after returning it I might consider renting it again but wouldn't spend the $50 or so to buy it. It's a good game don't get me wrong, but the fighters do look kind of cardboard and don't walk or move with any fluid movement. The fighting and moves are great but every fight seems like it is the same basic concept ie punch and kick for awhile, then tackle your opponent and break his arm or ankle. Every fight seems like this and either you or your opponent is getting one of his joints broken. It seems like whomever gets to the buttons first and not based on skill. Echo what some other users have said that you are dominating in the mounted position and your opponent has zero energy and next thing you know you're tapping out. Tap outs are INSTANT and there is no way to fight it. This is bad. The game itself just needs some finish and it would be world class. I'd buy this game wayyyy before Knockout Kings 2002!!

Almost Great |
| Gordon Polston from Georgia says (6/Jun/2002): |
I get so sick of gaming companies putting out an almost completed project just to meet a deadline. That is what seems like happened to this UFC Throwdown for the playstation 2. The fighting and control is second to none. This aspect is very refreshing, fun, and challenging. Just when you think you are dominating from a mounted position an ankle lock has got you tapping for mercy. Bravo to the boys at Crave. The tournament and modes of play are basic and solid nothing too innovative. The one major dilemma with this title is the create a character. This company is so far ahead in fight control it is hard to imagine they are so far behind in the create a character arena. They could definately earn something from THQ. If they had the character creation that Smackdown has you would have no reason to ever buy another figting game. The character creation definately didnt have the depthness that was boasted before the release. I would like to see another release soon remedying this problem on the account that maybe it was a mistake. I know with the price of gaming systems going down people will bail to the cube or xbox if there versions of UFC include the much needed depthness too the character creation. That is how good this game could be.
