the best game ever | | DavidK from Kernersville NC says (9/Oct/2005): | i got socom on the day it came out and it was awsome. You can play this game and never get bored(unless its like 5 in the morn and all your friends are off and your playing with people who dont speak your language). The one down side is the cheats and glitches(that may be the same thing i dont care). Over all this is the best game i have ever played and have played the 2nd on (which is even better) and now im waithing on the 3rd on to come out in a week or so. I highly recomend this game to anyone that is into the military/stragity games. The game alows you to join together with people all over the world and plan a way to kill(for the lack of a better word)the enemy. A selection of guns allows you to go silent or all out and not care who hears you. Sniping is awsome, you actually have to keep the gun steady it wont stay in one place on its own(which proves the awsome graphics). Well my girlfriends calling, i better go. But serously go out and get this game, im positive youll get addicted.

The gameplay online is great and offers several life saving features. I love the FIRE IN THE HOLE message that pops up after you or a teammate chucks a grenade. I also like how you can make weapons into quick wepons to save time in close combat. Overall the games pretty fair, but u have to learn how to deal with glitchers and laggers. UGGGGGGHHH!!!!! GOTTA VOTE 'em!!! I recommend newcomers to not even get into the whole glitching thing. I thought it was cool at first, but then realized how nerdy it was. Also, there are some cord pulling laggers out there that just want to rank up. VOTE 'em. I just play for fun, i don't really care weather i'm a leutenant or an ensign, just as long as i'm having fun. I think people obsess too much over rankings and will freak out if someone teamkills them by accident and its so annoying. Noone cares wut rank you are unless youre in the top 10. And i doubt any of those rank up glitchers will ever get in that spot. I think its more fun playin in lt.s and ensign rooms because you get to play with pretty cool kids who don't obsess over anything and vote you out if you make a stupid mistake. Thats it. If anyone has any cool info about colored usernames post it on this site please! Thanks

And i have noticed that alot of people are killing the gameplay of this game because no person in their right mind at sony has created an anti cheat update for this game. There is people speed hacking in this game shooting 1000s of bullets at a time and glitching everywhere....auto aiming and $#< remove me > at ! are also a problem, the only thing us good and truthful non-cheaters can do is find a server whose host and players all hate cheating and set up a site and clan for non cheaters that emails u a password to an anti cheating server where u can play in peace without getting harassed by hackers and glitchers.....Someone plz make a crappy little website called anti cheaters and make a private locked server. BY the way people u should screw looking at the ranks they r good for nothing. If u agree on making socom navy seals a cheat free community e-mail me please. We need ot stop teh horror....this is my favourite game and cheaters are killing it. I think the game is really cool except for one thing....it's when your stupid teammates don't defend themselves or don't listen. Like I'll be telling them to take out someone and they will go do it but then they die. I get so annoyed by that. I mean thats common sense. You don't stand there and wait for someone to shoot you, you shoot them first. Socom 3 should have it where they are not so stupid. Overall I liked the game though. You aint gonna beat this game in one day buddy. My favorite level is the first one. I think its funny when you throw a frag by the first 2 mens feet and it blows up and every one goes around screaming and yelling and shooting. Well, you get the picture. It's hilarious. Why do they yell "horrahh"? I also like throwing them in tight spaces when there is alot of guys around. KABOOM!!! And a whole bunch of glass breaks and then the alarm goes off. The explosions are so cool.

But the thing that I hate the most is the damm rank up system because i had a rank of 205910 then when i got on later the other night i went up to damm 220000 that pussed me off so much i thing it is because of the rank up system people they found out. My Socom name is TIMBERWOLF the Eis the C with the two lanes through it then the O is the O with the line though it. 1098 Killz, 768 Deaths, 454 headshots, 11% hit accurcy but I'm still a Lt. Commander.Then i have a captain name but i used the rank up system but now i never play on that name anymore because it is gay because i want to earn my damm wings now SO DON'T RANK UP ANYMORE PEOPLE BECAUSE WE MUST STOP IT. I'm in a clan named AZz Kickers but i think it is a gay name if anyone need a clan member just sent me a friend invite or just send a clan invites. But if u go on some site it tells up that the rank up system is about a gay system on chess system from germany.

I just wanted to share my opinion and a few username codes that everyone can try to use when creating an online persona. This game is the bomb. I've played others and always seem to come back to SOCOM 2 for the shear variety and challenge of not taking one in the back and cappin' every body that walks (or runs) into my field of fire.
The codes are NOT cheats, but allow you to change your text in the online menus. It will make your username a specific color and all text from you will be that color too. Where you select your player name. Select an empty playername slot (of the avail. three per mem card). Type in the following exactly as I've listed them for the desire color (with possible variations on spaces). Finish logging in to see the result.
#Cs = Red (#C~! and #C~% are Red too)
#CZ L= Purple (#C? L is Purple too)
#C~~= Gold (#Cae {ae is the merged alternative lettering})
#C! ~= Blue (#C00a {zero,zero,a w/ 2 dots above it} will show a "select" box in front of the username which is also blue -> Cool)
#C'v= Green (#C#~ is Green too)
#C~[]= Light Pink
#C{:}= Pinkish/Purple (may be same as purple above)

There's an average lag here and there but wit broadband there's no major probs, i wouldn't recommend to dial up users. The various levels range from nighttime forests, deserts, villages, swamps, etc. SOCOM II also brings back levels from the first gmae while creating new game modes and weapons. The game kicks major a$$ and the glitches online are the only things that really drag the game down. The ladder system isn't as bad as others say, sure if u haven't played in 1 & 1/2 weeks ur gonna go down, ur graded against other people! Plus the headset it almost a requirement if ur trying to get teamwork, otherwise you'll be left in the dark. The learning curve on this game would probably be around 3 hours, not bad, it's got similar controls to the first game. Graphics are good, but the frame rate slows the game down a little. Sound effects are awesome, esp. the `nade effect (the ringing after an explosion). The gameplay is great and challenging in the various levels of play. And of course it's an addictive game. The single player however isn't too great, the a.i., not too smart and the storyline's $***. It's the online that shines in this title. This game'll keep u in the house 4 a while.

| socom online rocks | | Brad from Ft Collins, USA says (8/Mar/2004): | playing socom online is very addictive. i can't even begin to tell you how much of a blast it was playing, and talking to other people from all over, and getting to know people. it's pretty neat. I like socom, because you can mannage your own clan, or join one if they think your good enough. I personally like creating my clan, because you can create your own clan name, and look, and have the best palyers. the graphics are pretty good too. it takes a long time to get good at it, trust me, i've been playing socom for about 6 months, and some of those guys are really good, if their not glitching. to tell u the truth, there are 2 things i do not like about socom. but their small things, i'm not saying you shouldn't get it. but first of all, the damn glitchers/cheaters, they make me mad. they should have like a punk buster, or something for that. and the second thing, and i don't know if this is normal, but i'm always getting disconnected, ALOT. But all in all it's a really great game, and i would reccomen it to anybody. if you like action, shotting, and blood, buy it, you'll be glad you did.
| An Awesome Game | | Flea says (7/Mar/2004): | First of all i would like to say that this game is very good, but as many people say in single player, sometimes your teammates do not follow your orders and some times act so stupid they fail the mission for you. When people say they can't deploy a satchel i don't really understand. At first i had some trouble but not as much as some people said. My tip is to gather all your men as close to the area as possible, than stand beside the area, and point your crosshairs at the the place you want the thing to be deplyed, and give the command.
Otherwise than stupid teamates, this game rocks. The graphics are amazing, and the game is ridiculously awesome. Even if you don't have the net for you PS2 the single player still kicks, it's really cool and challenging. After you beat the game on the first rank, ensign, which is fairly easy, you must beat Lieutenant Junior Grade to unlock level select which will double the fun of the game (and give you the oppurtunity to kill your own teammates, haha). I enjoy the game, although, Lieutenant Junior Grade rank is very challenging, it's worth it in the end.

Use stealth to take out bad guys, disconnect communications, and gather intel.
As an old Delta Force player, this is a piece of cake.
But then when you use your own satchel, then "deploy" your team to use theirs in order to scuttle the ship, there is no satchel option, just frag and bang. Another 100 restarts and trips to the armory, you may get lucky and be able to deploy your teams HE.....but to no avail. this game is 100% LAME. WTF?????????
It cannot touch Delta Force or Half-Life. Sorry guys, this game SUCKS big time. Absoleutely ridiculous and juvenile.
By the way, and decent cheat codes or advice very welcome here. Otherwise this disk is a Frisbee heading out.
There absoleytely must be a bug here, as I have tried so many options including default.

I've also seen that alot of times when you throw a "frag," one of them will run toward it, instead of taking cover, like being ordered. Still though, in my mind, it's one of the best ever made, as far as gameplay, scenarios, and action. I think it beats Rainbow 6, and Rogue Spear, which are outstanding games in their own rights. I am currently stuck on the "Retrieve the Nukes" stage. I get to the nukes, but by the time I get there, my team is mostly obliviated, as they love to stand there without defending themselves, while being shot at. But, the graphics, and gameplay are awesome. It's very easy to get addicted to this game. It's not a "shoot 'em up" game per say, as it makes you use your head in planning, and figuring out the best ways to meet the objective. Alot of stealth has to be used, instead of just charging and shooting. You basically need all of your team to accomplish alot of the missions, or atleast someone watching your back. It keeps you thinking, all the while you're having to watch your surroundings also. Yet, one negative aspect to me, is an annoying one. It's the female who is always talking, especially when she radioes to you that it's a "mission failure." Maybe she needs to go out there and complete the mission, instead of sitting on some safe ship away from the mission....lol. I highly rank this game, and have reccommended to several friends, who have also fell in love with it.

But there are major problems with this game. My men occasionally get stuck in the environment, on many of the missions, and after they are stuck you have to start all over. What is the deal with that? Another problem is that the Seal teams AI is all screwed up. My men are dumber than rocks and insubordinate as hell. I can’t tell you how many times I have given my men commands and they just ignore me or take there sweet time getting around to doing what I commanded them to do and this always gets my men or my self killed. They will also walk right up to an enemy that might be right around a corner and just stand there waiting to be killed. I have had Boomer following me across a compound and there are snipers around and he will just stop in the line of fire like an idiot and not fight back or get out of the way, I give him commands to regroup franticly and he just ignores me and stands there waiting to die. Is Boomer suicidal? I don’t have time in a combat zone to give psychiatric therapy to my men for there suicidal tendencies and if that’s not bad enough. How many times does Boomer have to walk into my line of fire before he realizes that’s not a good idea? It could have been an outstanding game if not for these frustrating problems. I recommend Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon. The graphics are not as good but your men are not insubordinate and have way more commonsense, they don’t get stuck in the environment and they follow all your orders with out hesitation. I wonder if they corrected these problems in SOCOM II?

They are great. When this game first came out I didn't know what to expect. I didn't think that it would be that great. But, it is! It's fun and challenging. I love it!
