This game is the bomb | | Danny from Richmond Virgina United States says (8/Apr/2004): | This game is the bomb on ps2,gamecube. if anyone eles think this game sucks,well then they suck.People that say this game is bad need to shutup they do not know what they r talking about.When yall made this game yall outdid your self.This game was better then the other yall made this and other yall r making better be the same.I give u guys a 10.The way u made the players look real was amazing and the way u made everything look was better then amazing.The only bad thing was there wasn't a dunk contest but this game rocks and the people that made it.You made me and every other nba fan happy and on behave of them thanks for making a cool game for me and them.You made everything look real the players,the areanas,the refs,and the teams manger.

Good things...
- Like in most new PS2 games, you'll find some amazing motion effects. When you dunk, an instant motion effect is applied, followed by a blank screen, that will amaze you. Not only that, the camera moves well there (sometimes too low in the start, but it's cool), you'll also notice about those roars when you dunk, that's extremely great.
- A bit of humor in the game, this happens during animations.
- Cool soundtracks, the most of them edited only for the game. Get Live of Snoop, Blao, Ballin' boy, etc. Excellent.
- The EA Sports Freestyle feature isn't too bad like it was with FIFA 2003. Or maybe because triangle it's still for spin, and square for the normal crossover too.
- Cool design on menus, that makes the game cool too.
Bad things...
- Yao Ming isn't in the game, that made my Rockets suck.
- Critical attemps to design details. (Just look at the player's nails, the black players had their fingers in wheat before EA published them or something? And the mouth, oh my, why in many PS2 games the mouth is hard to draw/make?)
- Poor features (No 3 point shoot out. You can create a player, but you can't create a team, so you'll be creating players and sending them to teams where they really aren't from and disorganize the real teams, so im sh'ure that you'll create just a bit of players, the create a player feature will not be too used in that way, will not be too important, so, it doesn't exists too).
- Poor live action (I'm talking about the animations and scenes, man, can you believe that in the half time there's only one kindda funny animation showing the player been sent in by the trainer after losing time trying to shake the hands of some fans?!? It's too hard to build some 3D girls to dance in the halftime or something?? And not only that, in the game those funny animations are just 4 or something, so, the "a bit of humor" feature it's a shame. Man, it's critical, you go to a final of playoffs, the players come to the show in that player by player presentation way, well, you finish the final, win the team, you're the champion and... not even one animation! You'll only see a "semi-3D-wood" trofy. What's the sense at all?!?)
- No real faces, man, even in NBA Live 97 the players had more real faces!! Even Jason Kidd, what you can call by a "main character" looks like Jack The Ripper! (Well, before the face damage that Jack had of course...). Just go, look closer to players like Jordan, O'Neal, S.Bradley, Mutombo, etc, you'll even laugh...)
- EA Sports kindda "posts too much ads" in games like this. Since Mega Drive, now it's getting worst, you see EA Sports in every corner, even the music they call EA Sports Trax now. Oh, c'mon, are the singers and rappers from EA too?
- I like the 1 on 1 mode where you play in the street, and stages like the beach (my favourite) still has sega mega drive's kind of textures, even when it comes to just a girl-man doing a strange sit on a chair.
If you like NBA and the whole kind of system, it's worth having. But i'll tell you, the best thing is too don't play it too much, you'll be wasting your time. Play it when you want to ear the music, feel a bit the dunks, 3 points, etc, then take it out of your console.

Usually if theres a probelm assoicated w/ the game I just go onto web, and amlost eveytime I can find some solutions, patches and walkthroughs. BUT seems like notbody ever mention this bug about Live 2003: It's almost like a routine. I start the game with high defensive pressure, make some blocks, steals and fast breaks. Take a 10~15 lead and then the my mini players start to dunk funny. Its like they have serious nearsightness probelm and all forget to wear glasses. MY DUNK (even layup) DON'T GO IN ANYMORE!! EVEN UNDER WIDE OPEN SITUATION!! Trust me, WIDE OPEN SITUATION! And almost everytime after I miss a dunk the PC hit me w/a another fastbreak, reducing the lead back to under-10. Not only so, if the PC were behind when the clock running down, they start to make WILD 3P! rEAlLy WILD!! I personally think b/c EA deginers lack the will to increase PC's AI more "technically", so they add those cheats to make PC more competitive. And it totally masses up the fun...

They should also have slam dunk contest, and create a dunk mode. They should also have things like player of the game interviews, and better celebrations. Adding practice to the franchise mode wouldn't hurt, and players could practice to get better. You should also have the coach on a contract, and be able to trade him. And a more realistic create player mode. I have a lot more ideas. But other than that the game is good!

The freestyle control makes the game outstanding, but should be toned town to what each player can really do or it is just to easy to get to the hole. Everybody shoots differently from both the field and charity stripe, it would be awsome if that could be changed. The defense is not close to where it should be. the score cannot be 175-165 ! There are also to many blocks and steals, and nobody can rebound while playing but the stats show that the average for other teams is high.Last thing is it is too easy to get an assist, you pass it to a guy in the post but ha does all the work and you still get credited. When it is allstar weekend in franchise mode , slam dunk contests and three point contests would make the game go over the top. In franchise mode you shoulbe able to create the draftees for the draft,so you can have the real players( meaning creating the draft class for next year). Trading players should't be so easy.you should be able to trade picks, sign and trade players, send picks over to europe, call back previous years picks,modify players during the season, and could you have real salaries(in millions not thousands).GMs should be able to hire/fire people and scout players.The last thing from franchise mode that could be added is a training camp like they have in madden.The create a player mode should have more options for each category. The rookies should all be in it this game unlike last 2003(no Yao), and should all have better overalls and should make an impact(players like nene and stoudemire only score 6 points and 4 rebounds, shoot 32% from the field but can shoot 87% from the three throw line, all this in 36 minutes of play)-in the 2003 version this is what happened.The commentators could comment on whats actually happening, what the team should to make themselves win, instaed of reading stats.The final thing that could be added to make this game the best b-ball game ever are post game interviews, conferences and highlight shows.
That is all. Live 2003 is a great game, but remember while making 2004, keep it realistic.

This game's pro's include an easy learning curve, decent graphics, fast paced action and good effects that make EA sport games distinct from other companies. A few more months in QA may have been needed to polish this game to be the best NBA game for the year, but as the game was published, it has a lot of seriously annoying "features" (not bugs as they would say).
The higher the skill rating you play, they better the computer gets at stealing your passes, even while they have their back to the ball. They just raise their arms and presto! ...they just intercepted your pass. Sticky hands! Hardly any deflections. Computer might even average more steal than rebounds against you.
Talk about high scoring games! Not even during the 80s did games average in the mid to high 100s every time. Might be great for padding stats, but not even close to what it should be. Kenyon Martin averaging 80+ points a game in superstar level? K Garnett averaging close to 100 points a game? Felipe Lopez (who?) averaging 40 a game?
Ever play against another human? Just choose a team with 3-point shooters and the game can be a 3-point shoot out. You can play as the Lakers and have Fisher, Fox and George as your high scorers and Kobe and Shaq with 4 points apiece and still win by 20 points. What’s up with that? Last time I watched them play, these 3 guys are lucky to get 8 points each.
Being an EA fan since NBA Live 96, I was very bummed that this game is the way it is. The bugs are not as bad as the PC version of 2001 (or was it 2000?) when you could not get offensive rebounds, but it could have been much better.
Bottom line is, this game feels more like an arcade version of what it should have been. If you want to see what this game's potential would feel like, try Sega's 2K3 or wait for NBA Live 2004 and hope the NBA Live series returns to it's former ways of glory, wtih substance along with the eye-popping candy, instead of eye candy only.

Being an asian myself, i felt very dissapointed by the fact that the #1 draft pick was not even in the god damn game. Another thing that i would like to complain about is that negotiating contracts factor. WHY CANT players deals be extended for further seasons, its a risk getting players with 1 year left on their contract, because when the seasons over, the'll be gone!!!!! But whatever im pumped for NBA '04 (but why the hell is Vince Carter on the cover man!!!!) You should of put 'Bron or Amare on the cover...., but whatever yall....

I don't know if it's just me but the graphics of this game looks like PS1 graphics where things are blurry and most of all, fake. Many other players have agreed with me about the graphics (looking like PS1 graphics)where they choose not to play live but other Nba games. If the creaters of this game where to make their graphics more realistic as player models in Madden or Nba 2k3, Live would be the best NBA game ever.Anyways, Live is a fun five star game that I reccommend to everyone where the create player and franchise mode will have you playing for hours.Finally, I would just like to add a little suggestions for 2004. If live where to be a best seller, the creaters need to make the create player mode more creative(more accessories,should be able to edit all players stuff in the game,etc), better graphics,realistic gameplay(I shouldn't be able to steal the ball by using my turbo and knocking into a player or Tim Duncan shouldn't be a free agent all the time, real teams),deeper franchise mode(where you can be a coach,gm,maybe a player,scouting propects for draft around the U.s and world,). Finally, I think live is a great game in 2003 but if the creators were able to add some more creativity and graphics it would be a top seller.

Also in create a player mode you should have a lot more hair styles and kicks for us players to choose from. get some of t'macs gear on there like the leg band, head band, socks, shoes, etc...there should really be more faces and body sizes to choose from. maybe we can use one of our favorite players face. we should also be able to make our on nickname not choose one that you gave to us. better franchise would maake this game great. get a 2 on 2 tournament going here. and there should be a practice mode where you can improve your players skills where he lacks at. o the facial hair sucks why dont you guys look at somes guys in the nba and get some of theres. and you should be able to pick what ever hair style you want and make it what ever color you want. when you play in a game make sure the player plays but there skill level. also can you make the passes better it is so easy to still those. update the dunks. there should be a draft class that you can import too. better commentaries and a some what amusing half time announcement. you know show some other game higlights, talk about nba news, do something. and where was yao. throw backs where sweet, but get the 90's bulls on there that would be the best. oh yea i know how tim duncan is the mvp in real life but on the game why is he always mvp unless you create or edit a player that really sucks. and ben wallace is always defensive plaeyr or caron butler is always the rookie of the year. please try and fix that. thanks. if all of this was on the game i would rate you 10+.

I want to see Ben Wallace more aggresive on the boards,I want to have a tough time getting a basket with Ron Artest on me.And PPLLLLLease Tracy Mcgrady is quick, but he is nowhere close to Allen Iverson's speed. Stop making Shaq like Arnold Swarznaeggar (i dont know how to spell his name). How about 2 on 2, 3 on 3, 4 on 4, 5 on 5 mode huh. Arent you guys the makers of NBA Street series, how bout some real urban steet basketball courts such as,West 4th court,Rucker Park,Mosswood in Oakland,I promise if you have that NBA Live 2004 will sell three times as much as any other basketball game ever, because EA has that special touch in everything it comes out with.And ive seen this one on every other message board include Dunk and three point contests in season mode and franchise mode.Make it more realistic like madden 2003 with classic teams like 96 bulls the bad boys detroit pistons you know teams like that. Come on EA every sports game you make is realistic expect for the Live's.At Pre-Game I want to see guys shooting around, layups , guys stetching on the floor, pre game and post game interviews. More injuries when you are playing like madden. And live reports on players on other teams in season mode. Come EA at least take some of my ideas and put it in Live 2004 and I ganrantee that it will be THE BEST EVER!!!

They should have the real rookies for when you finish the franchise and go to your second one.They should at least put some.Like carmelo or Tj Ford or Nick Collison but instead they make names up and put them down.I hope they do better on 2004.

Like for exaample they could make like live half time interviews with the star players on the team and let them speak about the game just something to keep it intriguing.
Also Live should add the three point and dunk contest to the game I mean you get tired of playing the computer in a game or just one-on-one. If you are going to make a game make it worth the whole 50 dollars we are spending for it ya know.
Another thing is that they underate alot of players on the game like Allen Iverson for istance he doesn't have a 3 ball, Cloud, or Lock beside his name but yet Jason Williams from the Memphis Grizzlies do get real.
Also I think that we should have a choice on the menu screen somewhere if we want to play with the analog or the regular pad we have been using for years I mean I have evolved to using the analog but I think it would be nice to have a choice feel me? I mean I stop and wonder sometime do they really want to get good rating for the game when they leave so much out. It's hard to believe a game like Live (being the good reputation is has) seems to leave out so much. I think maybe they need somemore people helping them it's not hard thinking of what people want when it comes to basketball. I don't know if the people of NBA Live read this but if they do or don't and they haven't changed anything when I get out of college I will be taking someone job.
It's crazy Jordan vs Bird had a dunk contest and a three point and look how many years ago that was. I mean come on and bring Live to its fullest potential, is that to much to ask. I am not talking trask but I just know that it can be better.

Like you couldn't create your own team with thier own made up name and couldn't make their own arena and make up where it was located. Like you could make the Hawaii Hurricanes. Also it would be better if their were more types of cool dunks(dunks from like Slam Dunk competitions, like Jason Richerdsons winning slam dunk in the Slam Dunk competition) that would be really cool. And it would be a lot better if you could have Slam Dunk competitions and three point competions ....... Also it would be better if thier were NO cheats for the game. Cheats make the game less fun. Also the game should have more injuries and suspensions in some of the games. I also liked a couple of things in NBA Live, like the graphics because some graphics in some games stink, if there wasn't good graphics you couldn't tell who the players were unless you see thier number.I liked that you could trade players and edit them. I liked that you could create players too.And I liked the fantasy drafts. Also I liked the Hall of Famers that you could pick up in the free agent pool. The music in the game were great. In NBA Live 2004 you could put in music by 50Cent, Eminem, Busta Ryhmes, ect. Overal NBA Live 2003 was a pretty good game but it cost a lot of money. It would be better if you lowered the prices a little, even if it was only five or six dollars less that would be better. If you read this thank you because it took a very very very very long time to write and it was hard. And I usually don't do hard things in the summer because well it is the summer. EA i hope this isn't to much but if you but those things in nba live 2004 i promise young cats like me will never go outside.Aight EA.
