Nascar Thunder 2003 - Awesome, but disappointed in a few things... |
| Ben from La Crosse Wisconsin USA says (25/Oct/2004): |
Nascar Thunder 2003, I think, is an awesome game. Before this game, I played Nascar 2000 on N64...nothing like NT 2003. I thought that the pit crew and victory celebrations were a great idea. The things I didn't like abnout this game...
1.Pit Crew - I think that there should pit crew fixing other cars instead of your just showing them working on it...with every pit crew changing tires in pits, it'll be more realistic.
2. Caution flags - I think that there should be a caution for someone hitting into the wall hard, or blow there engine (not fire, just tan smoke) because in real life, they make that into a caution flag. Also, if someone goes sideways but doesnt turn around, that should be a caution flag also...so i was very dissapointed in the caution flags situations.
3. I did not like the way the computer has super speed...especially when your leading...2nd place never gets off your tail...even if you have a 210 mph car at daytona on rookie mode...like common...NOT REAL...they need to fix that.
4 - i dont like the way we blow up if we have a lot of damage
5 - Create a car...what i dont liek about this..is that theres not enough sp[onsers to choose from, not enough #'s, and not enough paint schemes.
*****these things mihgt make me think i hate this game, but i dont...these are jsut things i dont like about it. but overall...this game is a very great game..i play it sooo much...and i still do!! BUY THIS GAME!!!

Good, but could be more realistic |
| Ryan T. from Gaffney, SC USA says (31/Jan/2004): |
Nascar 2003, is a fun game, but the realism could be better. For instance, when you win a race and go to celebration mode, you should be able to slide through the grass, not just spin the tires. Also during career mode, you should be able to design the entire team, uniforms, and even a hauler. I also would love if you could get more numbers for your created cars other than in the 100's. I want to make a Darrell Waltrip replica during season mode, but I cant because I cant get number 17. Though the realism could be better, the game is awesome and all Nascar fans should own it.

cool but needs some work |
| A gamer from USA says (18/Nov/2003): |
Nascar Thunder 2003 is a ver cool game but there is some room for improvement. At the superspeedways the cars need to stay in a pack better than they do. In career mode when you are in the lead the second place guy is always on your tail trying to pass you than you pass him back it is a never ending cycle until you wreck. The caution need to be more realestic instead of a car just spinning with just a nuff time to have one lap of green when you have a huge lead. Other than that it is a great game good job EA SPORTS.

Shut up Brandon Jones!!! |
| EA SPORTS LOVER from Lake Charles Louisana says (29/Sep/2003): |
I'll Ask you a question why do nascar drivers play this game like jr: Because it is the best game in the world! stupid idiot's that don't get the point! If you think that this game is hard, well it's soppose to be HARD!!! Nascar is not easy. If you give up on this game than you are a wimp or just not a real nascar fan! I like the Lightning challenges and thunder license because they teach you thing's like how to get around the track. i like create-a-car. they have cool sponsers and schemes. Plus they have two-didget numbers now! I love the pre-race show. And career mode is very cool drives like Bill Elliot Retire and drivers like Scott Wimmer Take over there rides. I also like the victory lane celbration. I'v Played other nascar games but none as good as this.
|
awesome but needs 2 changes |
| Matt McIntosh from West Union, USA says (7/Sep/2003): |
this is the awesomest game ever. but the two things that could change is they need to have commentary throughout the race. like bp or good ol dw. and another thing is have a leaderboard scrolling across the top of the screen. other than that there is nothing that needs to be changed about the game. AWESOME!!!

| matt from hubbard ohio usa says (20/Aug/2003): |
i think nascar thunder 2003 is a excellent game with the exception of not having dave blaney if they can put shawna robinson they should be able to put dave blaney he races more races than she does and u shouldnt have to unlock the paint schemes they should already be unlocked
|
Replays |
| Eric from Portsmouth, Ohio, USA says (5/Aug/2003): |
Nascar Thunder 2003 is a great game for any age group. The only real down fall's to this game in my view is the replays. I think EA Sports should let u be able to replay any point in the race with any camera angle that u want. The EA Sports football game have replays of big plays and u can also replay any thing u want to. The other thing is the number selection in creat a car. You should be able to select any nuber u want. Other than those flaws this is the best racing game i have ever played.

NASCAR Thunder 2003 |
| A gamer from Pittsgrove, USA says (29/Jul/2003): |
I got the NASCAR Thunder 2003 3 days after it came out and I was hooked out the addictive, adrenaline rush game. Graphics and all were excellent. A++.. I was a little upset with the Create-A-Car along with the career because I was expecting more combinations of paint schemes, sponsors, etc. Also I think the champion videos could have been much much better instead of jeff gordon congradulating you. They could have showed highlights from other drivers' championships. The sounds are excellent, crashes are fairly realistic, pit mistakes, and all the stuff is great!! Victory Lane could use a little spruce up with all the trophies look like they do at that exact race instead of the trophies being the same at all the tracks even though some are different.
I also think for Nascar Thunder 04 if you do a full race you should be to save it if you have to do like 200 laps save it at 38 and then do the rest later. But overall, NASCAR Thunder 2003 for PS2 is a great game for gamers who love an adrenaline rush of running three wide into a cloud of smoke at 200 mph on the last lap of the Daytona 500!

Multiplayer |
| Dustin Hostetter from Yadkinville, NC says (24/Jul/2003): |
This Game is cool don't get me wrong but the multiplayer section needs major improvement. It just plain sucks you can only race with the other drivers and not the computer drivers two. Also it needs a multiplayer season. The graphica are great and the single player is to. A cheat menu would be nice.

greatest game ever!!!!!!!! |
| kenny riggs from london,Kentucky says (23/Jul/2003): |
this is the greatest game in the entire world.the graphics are awsome and the pit crew is cool. but the best thing about nascar thunder 2003 is u can unlock the man,the 7 time winston cup champion, the man in black dale earnhardt.whoever dont like this game is not a nascar fan
|
Absolutly the best NASCAR racing game yet |
| Bob from Midletown, De., USA says (30/Jun/2003): |
I have seen a lot of racing games put out this year, but Nascar Thunder 2003 tops the cake!! As a big NASCAR racing fan, I like to buy each of the games that come out in the same year to campare them. I bought NASCAR Thunder 2003 the day it came out, and another game that came out a little later. By far, NASCAR Thunder 2003 was the best of the two. Here are my scores for this game -
GRAPHICS - 10.0
GAMEPLAY - 9.90 (I'll talk about that)
REALISM - 9.80
FUN - 10.0 (It really depends on if you like racing)
CONTROLS - 9.90
Those are only my opinions, but if you like this game as much as I do, they are most likely the same. Anyway, the graphics are one-of-a-kind. I've never seen any kind of graphics in any kind of racing game ever before.
There are a lot of new things introduced into the game such as a introductory scene for every track. Also, there are new features like Lightning challenge, where you race as drivers in their biggest moments of their NASCAR careers. There is an option called Thunder license, where you can go to every track in the country to learn how to get your way around the track in the fastest way possible. When you beat the time on the tracks, you are awarded Thunder plates.
Thunder plates are like bonuses in the game, and you win them by winning races, beating challenges, and getting your Thunder licenses. Sometimes you may win a car design, and sometimes you may even win a track.
NASCAR Thunder 2003 has the best gameplay I've seen so far in my lifetime (thats not very long, so there's plenty of room for improvement.) It's very challenging and I enjoy being challenged to the point where you think you can't possibly get to the front and at least get a good finish, and then a big wreck occurs, I dodge my way to the front, and get a solid top ten finish. I love that kind of stuff. This game is very exciting, and it should be an action game instead of a racing game.
The game may be very cool, but it's hard to hide things that aren't fully developed in video game technology. One example is that when you pull into your pit, your pit crew goes and does it's normal routine. The problem is that the noises you hear sounds like there are more than one pit crew out working on cars. One time I pulled into pit road alone, and it still sounded like there was more than one crew. It didn't bother me much, but it did bring the overall score of the game down a bit. Another mess up is that I still don't like the fact that your car catches fire when theres too much damage put to it. I think that it should just fall apart, not catch fire. It'd be okay if the fuel line exploded or something, but not sustain a lot of damage and catch fire.
I suggest anyone who would like to add an excellent racing game to their video game collection to buy NASCAR Thunder 2003. You'll be playing it for hours at a time, and never get rid of it, that is, until the next installment comes out (and I hope it's soon.)

Needs a little more reality |
| Heath Heidemann from Merrill, WI, USA says (28/Jun/2003): |
I think the game as it is is excellent, but has room to improve in many areas. The Pit Crew signing is a step in the right direction, but what relevance does the crew chief have?? Mabey there should be an option to have the crew chief automaticaly setup your car, and the setup gets better as your crew cheif gets experience. The sponsorship scenario is a nightmare. I agree that the better you get, the more lucrative the sponsor, but why the prestigue rating system? I am happy to get into the 80s and have Oreo knocking on the door, but what if I wanna go back to the 60s level to get Rockwell Automation. There are a lot of retired/fired drivers where the car just disappears. If they are not filled, those should be in a pool to chose from, and leave it to the sponsor to say yes or no to your proposal. I was a little dejected when I saw Johnny Sauter get released from the #2 car owned by Childress, than sign with #16 Roush, the #2 get a new driver, but I have yet to see the #2 or get an option for that sponsorship.
The realism is a joke in some reguards. As I read in a letter, if you are looking to crash someone, you should at least damage them to the point they run the same speed or slower as you. I wrecked Jarrett with 2 to go, crashed him into a wall head on, whatched his crincled front end come up in my mirror, pass me and the other 4 drivers in front of me to win! Come on!! In your dreams! I have also had a person in front of me lose his hood, draw a caution, and not pit, and still win.
Also I seem to get passed coming onto pit road, even on pit road, and be forced to slow for other cars to leave thier pits, while I see car after car pass me and others on the road without slowing a bit. Than get trapped in my stall, when others plow into you coming out of thiers.
Otherwise, the game is great, these are just little things that get to you as you play season after season, and things that could fix the game and make it better.

This Is the BEST NASCAR game yet... or is it? |
| Tom from St. Germain, WI says (19/Jun/2003): |
This game is so cool the graphics are amazing, the sound is awsome, gameplay is the best. Anybody who likes NASCAR should play this game. The only downer is that Miller Lite, Budweiser, and Coors Lite cant be displayed in the game NASCAR Thunder 2005 should have a mature rating on it, Having Team Rusty and Dale are just a lame thing to NASCAR fans like me. NEXTEL CUP NEXT YEAR!!!!

the best racing game ever |
| Rob from Clawson,Mi,usa says (6/Jun/2003): |
well bought this game the day it came out started a career did bad for two years got in a good ride.then you go on to win 10 championships in 20 seasons get ok videos of racers telling you your good other things would have been better.winnig 72 races and not getting any thing unlocked a little disappointing like you should get cool things for every milestone you reach like first win,20th win,100 top 5'sand so on it felt a little like you do it for nothing.the graphics are awsome needs more replays that you can control need more cars to get into for seasons like when ken schrader retires you should be able to move into that ride and let your ride to a rookie the black #3 is very cool makes racing fun it should be easier to unlock paint schemes over all the game rocks.and there should be more legends on the next game seening how ea sports bought the rights to nascar ganes it should improve

Nascar Thunder 2003 |
| Kyle Rose from Kingstont Ontario Canada says (5/Jun/2003): |
This game rocks. But its hard to keep up with the pack and get a good finish.I think the Driver should get to make comments and yell at other drivers if they cause you to wreak. But they need to make the wreaks mo real and you shouldn't have to just press the x button to revive you self bnut it is an awsome game for anybody who likes Nascar.

Only one thing could make this game any better............... |
| Papa J from Mesquite, Texas USA says (30/May/2003): |
A CHEAT MENU!!!!! I personally can't stand it when a game is designed, and it sure seems this one was intentional, without any cheats, codes, shortcuts, or whatever other means of CHEATING we may have at our disposal. The absolute best, without a shadow of a doubt, Nascar Game to date for the console system in terms of playability, graphics, sound, new career mode etc. Although the car damage could use a little more attention. What better way to vent, and let out your frustrations when you can't cheat, than to set the race length to 100%, go to quick race with the yellow flags (OFF) of course, turn your car around at the start of the race, then proceed at 200mph on Talladega.... then ram into as many cars as you can hit.....only to watch half of them then drive off as if nothing happened. Oh well......that's why i'm a truck driver.....(lol).

Another Review for EA Sports |
| Ryan Smith from Eugene, Oregon says (16/May/2003): |
I think they should have the option to choose if you want to start your career in Craftsman Truck Series, Busch, Or Winston Cup. Have all of those leagues. Have daily newspapers. Also, you should be able to drive and be team owner where you can control other cars on your race team once you get the money to buy another team that is. I do agree that not having Blaney and some toher guys sucks but other then that EA did it again like I said before. I really hope EA Sports reads these and maybe Station Play can help with making sure they do.
|
Well it would be a 10 if it had Blaney and other drivers |
| A gamer from Shawano, Wisconsin, USA says (10/May/2003): |
Well this game could be the best if u could change a name of the driver like say Casey Atwood and change it to Jimmy Spencer. U can in Nascar Racing Season 2003. You should be able to have any number like in create a car, like why cant u have 11 or like 44. Why dont they have Blaney? Or Nemechek in the 25? Or the 44 car which at the time was run by Jerry Nadeau? Or how about that 14 car which they could of put Mike Wallace in. Im saying they just could of made the game sooooooo much better like that. I hope the EA Sports creators read this just cuz I want them to change things. In the next one i want like Larry Foyt, Jack Sprauge, aand all the other full time starting cars. Yeah so thats get better drivers instead of Jeff Purvis a busch driver and Frank Kimmel a Arca driver. Change the numbers so u can get 13 or whatever number u want in create a car. Have Career mode be where u can change from say Jeff Gordon's car when he retires to Kevin Harvick's or something. Have it where u can change the name and everything else such as the driving aspects are great but needs more depth at the roster and stuff then I would give it a 100 over a 9 or 10.
|
Can't get any better than this. |
| Travis from lynchburg,va USA says (8/May/2003): |
Nascar Thunder 2003 for PS2is the best ever.On the PC the graphics suck. The PS2 they are great the only thing i hope that is better in Nascar Thunder 2004 is commentary by DW,Larry Mac,(can't think of the other).I wish when you win the championship it gives you the video instead of trying to unlock it.

ideas for 2004 |
| Murray from Robinson, IL USA says (4/May/2003): |
In all, I think this is a great game, but for 2004, maybe more sponsors to pick from in the career mode would help. It also might help if there were different expectations, instead of "finish in front of Robbie Gordon", or qualify 4th... as you progress more in the game, it gets harder to satisfy requirements, and I have been dumped by many package sponsors because of a bad race. However, other than that, the only other thing they might do differently is have more paint schemes for the cars, and the availability of more numbers. Maybe for 2004 they could have an expectation like "win the cup"... The game is realistic, I really enjoy the game play, the challenge is awesome. In the career mode, its great that you have to satisfy sponsors and have the opprotunity to move up into a real race team, like the #3 nabisco oreo chevy, the dodge dealers dodge. I also like the tracks. The old daytona track in the sand is awesome, but very tough to beat without damage off. I give this game two big thumbs up!!! I cant wait for next years game to come out. Long Live Nascar!!!
