My thoughts on Ratchet and Clank | | Daniel "Boone" Crawford from Hudson Bay, Canada says (4/Jan/2004): | Hello everyone! I own R & C for PS2 and I just loved it!
The graphics: I found that the graphics were extrordinary! The in-game graphics were just as good as the cinematics. The game took careful care in making each little detail show. there have been other games where there were almost no curved edges. Also, the levels were extremely well made. In "metropolis" on the planet "Kerwan", it looks like i can see for miles in every direction and still see towering skyscrapers.
Gameplay: I found that the controls were good enough to use effectley. But what really stands out is the weapons and gadgits. There are around 36 i think. I just love the Telsa Claw. oh, and guys, here is a stradegy for quick bolt grabbing: First, you need the hologuise and the taunter. Go to Black Water City, Rilgar. Use the hologuise and enter the race. They will think that you are fixing it and then you can walk around on the track. Next, walk to the suspended platform with all the bolts on it. No here is the trickyest part, make Ratchet face the crates of bolts but make sure the camera doesent, (so you can't see the crates). After that, turn on the taunter. The crates will braek and the bolts will come flyin'. Somehow, the crates always regenerate when your not looking, so a continuis stream of bolts will come at ya. all thats left is to tape down the circle button and shut off the t.v. In about 5-8 hours later, you should get enough bolts for the sweet, sweet, R.Y.N.O.
Also, when you have a "Presuader", it only works on new weapons and gadgits from a Gaditron vender. It will not work for ammo, the R.Y.N.O. salesmen, or "Steve".

That rifle is just like a normal rifle but it upgrades to a ultra vaporizor and you can get old weapons from the first version. The rhyno 2 shoots better than the first rhyno and the zodiac is good. This time Captian Quark is a complete lunatic! The enimies turn around and shake their butt back and forth at you. That pissed me off!
I shot him in the ass!! with my ultra vaporizor wich is a rifle.
Mr. Fizwidget is completley more lunitic than Captian Quark. He gets distrated easily. But I think this game kicks ass!!!!
From AssBlaster...... Clank needs more weapons than punching. And he needs more health. And his giant form needs a better bomb by jumping in the air to charge a bomb and let it shoot.
And this game has good ass butt kicking.

I can tell why the company who created it is called Insomniac, because you stay up all night playing their games! There are so many cool things you can do in this game. It is good for all ages because it is not that hard to beat, but there is plenty of extra stuff to keep older kids or adults busy. After you are done playing the game you will want to play it again because you can buy gold weapons which are better than the regular weapons and totally cool! The music is also great and so are the graphics. One tip I have is that you can get a thousand bolts in the races if you get a new time or a new score. I think Blackwater city is the best place to do this because it is just an easier course. After you get the zoomerator (for placing first in the race) you can go back to the race and if you do any flips you will get a score. I started at 10 and kept working up till I got to around 500 which works out to around 50,000 bolts in only a few hours! It's the best way I have found to get the most amount of bolts in the shortest amount of time. The coolest thing is if you come back after you have played a few more levels, your score will reset so you can start all over. Also, make sure you get the metal detector and use it. The only annoying thing about this game is that there are two skill points (tricky and speedy) that I can't seem to beat! Oh well hopefully I will get them. Anyway, this game is highly addicting and I haven't played Going Commando, but I hope it is just as fun!

Itsaid that there were 20 planets and that they added moons that u went onto and u have to blow up towers on a moon. I think without even seeing the game that it is better than Ratchet and Clank. The other sweet thing i saw was that Ratchet got to wear suits of different kinds and i dont know what that is all about but i think it sounds cool. I also read that the reason it is called going commando is because he is in a like a group of special agents and it doesnt have anything to do with underware. Another thing is that when u are Clank there is 2 new things he can order the little robot guys to do and i know one of them is build bridges. The last thing i got to say is that Ratchet now has levels so he has hitpoints, and the most hitpoints he can get is 180 of the little blu things i dont remeber what there called, and the most an enemy has that isnt a boss is 120. Those are the reasons i think Going Commando is better. Since i cant type where i already have without deleting something im going to type one more thing, there are upgrades for many of the weapons including i think 3 upgrades for the OmniWrench and that is my last comment.

A fantastic game for any gamer or newcomer,slowly you'll get
used to the controls,using the great 'trianing' levels and the actual levels.Rachet and Clank has a great story and has plenty of mini-games for you pleasure!After you play this game you will be hooked on it for ever and you will say the same as me!Now here's my secret for you.If you go to the hoverbike race on planet joba, there is some glass behind the hoverbike. If you use your most powerful guns, you can break it within a couple of rounds of each gun that you use. Once you break it th ere will be a hallway. Go straight down and turn right, then straight, left, and straight again. You'll see the hall that leads to the insomniac museum and the bad guys that are waiting, only they don't see you so sneek up on them and kill them. Then just walk down the hallway and viola, your at the insomniac museum! That's the fast way that you can get to it and it's a way that the Insomniac producers don't want to tell anybody about.

( I love jak 2 by the way, although not my #1 fav., if you spent alot of time on Stationplay, you would probably know what is my fav.)And i remember seeing the posters while playi g Jak 2, so i thought, hey why not? and so i try it.....uuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh......not really like Jak 2 at all! The Jak games (Jak & daxter - Jak 3) are are super cool, this was NOT!!!!I didnt give it a 1 because it was somewhat like Jak 2 but, i mean come on! kinda....a Jak 2 for kids who prefer cartoons over an awsome movie. I realize this is "T" but, it just doesnt seem like one, it seems like an "E". Maybe Jak 2 is just SOOOO awsome that i was use to just playing an awsome game and thinking this game was going to be just as great, it was a let down, maybe if i hadnt played the Jak games, i would have liked this more. Yes, this game was not that great, but hey, if you like it, go ahead and play it, and to thoes of you who are looking around for cool games, maybe considering Ratchet and clank, i have something to say, i think YOU would think it was good or at least desent but if you want the extream, cooler, better, more exiting and way more fun version, i would go with its cousin Jak 2, but that is just me
| Game of the year? | | Amir Kolmanic from Athens, Greece says (24/Dec/2003): | Rachet and clank really seems to steal the spot of stardom in gamer's hearts, with brilliant graphics, relaxed and fun gameplay, and a stunningly original storyline. Their is a barrack of weapons, gadgets and equipment with which to eliminate your enemies, traverse planets, and impress sports fans. There is an impressive number of diverse fiends to battle, and dumbstriking worlds. The cinematics bring endless joy to viewers and can be watched infinte times. The single trivial aspect I found in this near-immaculate game was the style of fighting and counter-attacking of the enemies; their physical response to your assault seems to be too simple and childish. Also, the cheats are slightly lacking (why didn;t u add a cheat for infinite bolts, Insomniac! I would really need that R.Y.N.O.!) Though Ratchet and Clank is arguably a copy of Jak and Daxter, even so, if I find it much more interesting and impressive. The thing I enjoyed is mainly "Insomniac"'s persistently jolly mood of Ratchet in particular, which keeps the player's expectations high. The speech is humorous and cliche-free. I am eager to give this game a full rating, but let's be realistic-no game is perfect. On a more accurate scale, i would rate this game 9.7/10.
| Hoverboard Race Tips | | Jennie from Blanchard, OK USA says (13/Jul/2003): | I love this game.It is awesome because of all of the weapons. They are really cool.I just got the skill point for the hoverboard race in Blackwater City. I think this might help Michelle from Toronto. On the Hoverboard Race, at the very beginning,hit the turbo arrows, but don't go on the ramp. And then try to jump over the edge of the track and hit the next turbo arrows. Take the lower portion of the track and hit all three turbo arrow sets. Go up on the upper track and hit the first two turbos (not including the gate turbo) and then jump off of the ramp. Try to make it over the pipes. Go on the higher track to the right and go through both turbo rings (gates). Keep going straight and hit the turbo arrows after the green amoeboids and jump off of the side of the ramp, like cut the corner, and hit both turbo arrow sets. Go on the ramp to the left and lightly jump at the end. You should make it through the turbo ring and still be able to hit the turbo arrows on the ground. Make sure to hit the turbo arrows after the finish line, right before the ramp, but don't go on the ramp. Keep cutting corners and you should get the skill point. It took me forever, but it is possible!
| Very Fun Game | | LDJ from Dallas, TX says (6/Jan/2003): | I just completed the Ratchet & Clank game and I thought it was great. Each planet you arrived at offered vastly differing color schemes, environments, characters, sounds, and sights. There seemed to always be something new to look at or explore. Even when you finish the game, you can take advantage of all of the weapons, gagdets, and bolts you've acquired along the way and go back to the other planets and explore MORE than you could with the limited resources you had before. The only thing I can complain about is having to watch all of those short movies, commercials, and the ship flying to each planet, each time you traveled. Still, some of the characters you ran into and were forced to hear out, were pretty inventive and funny, and worth putting up with. There were plenty of little twists to the game that kept it interesting and fun. And I suppose it must be noted that this is the first video game I've played in a LONG time. I don't usually spend my time playing video games, but my husband brought this one home, hoping I'd get more into stuff that he liked. And I liked it. This is the first video game I've beat since the original Super Mario Bros.!! GASP!
| Ratchet & Clank The Greatest Video game ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Ryan from England says (24/Apr/2005): | I have had the first Ratchet & Clank for about 3 years now and I thought that was good enough, but since buying Ratchet and Clank Locked & Loaded I cant stop playing it. It is sending me google eyed from the amount of time I play on it. The graphics are amazing, and so are the weapons. My favourite weapon is the Zodiac, because it is so destructive that you can blow the hell out of stuff. I have completed the game but am stuck on the giant monster on the first misson (you do not have to destroy this to complete the game). The controls for this game take a bit of getting used to but you soon learn. I only had the game last week and have completed it twice. I only got through it so quick because I play it about seven hours a day! The monsters on the game are quite tough to destroy. I like destroying the giant robot on planet Snivelak. The main thing i like about it is that you can get up to 20x more bolts when you complete the game. I thought killing the mutated protopet was pretty tough. When I finished the game once, it said its dificulty would improve and get harder, but i felt it was getting easier. It may have been because I had allready finished it once.

Until I brought it for her birthday. Ratchet and Clank would have to be the greatest game made. I completed it 6 times and was hanging out for the second one to be released. One of the things I like about it is that you don't die and have to start right from the beginning again- you only go back to a 'checkpoint'. Also, it has a storyline and it's like you are playing a part in an animated movie. The levels contain an array of challenges including combat, puzzle solving and racing. It's like 3 or 4 games rolled into one- theres something in it for everyone. The graphics are unreal. I don't know how many times I died while I was too busy checking out the incredibly detailed scenery instead if playing the game. Each level has its own unique soundtrack of cool tunes. I could be here all day raving about this game but I'll just say that if you don't have it, you don't know what you're missing. I have spent hundreds of hours playing and I'm still learning new stuff. I never seem to get bored of it.I can't rate it highly enough. BUY IT!!!!
| Ratchet and Clank take over Spyro | | Danielle Liddiard from Staines,England says (29/Dec/2003): | Ratchet the Lombax(A kind of cat-bat hybrid)and Clank the robot are a duo who are on a mission to save the galaxy and its up to you to help them save it.Ratchet and Clank is a platformer classic that every PS2 owner should have.The graphics are top-notch,the sound and music is spectacular and each piece of music suits every planet perfectly.The gameplay is much more different from spyro but is much better.It takes ages to complete this game,collecting bolts,finding golden bolts,performing tasks to earn skill points and saving up to buy a giant missile laucher is only a tiny part of the game.Plus you get tons of weapons,tons of gadgets and you can even play as Clank.Ratchet and Clank is much like a sci-fi version of Jak and Daxter but much bigger and much better.The more weapons and gadgets you get the more powerful you become.Ratchet goes from mechanic to warrior from warrior to hero.Clank goes from robot to backpack from backpack to sidekick.Ratchet and Clank is extremely addictive,once you start playing it you can't stop playing it.This game is definatly,definatly better than Spyro.Well done insomniac!Well done!

All the guy has is his wrench as a weapon/tool. Then as you play the first level you get your first weapon. it's a bomb glove wich is pretty lame compared to the others. Wich include flamethrower, morpha ray, tesela claw, glove of doom, and many others. The graphics are very good. The sound is just basic background action music. You start out with three basic life bubbles. Later in the game you can get more. I forgot to mention two very important people. The first is clank. A small defective rowbot who can come in handy at times. The other is gagetron. This is actually a company that supplies you with weopns and gadgets. They also give you hints along the way. The bad guys in this game are not that hard to beat. But the bosses can get tuff. When it comes to them it takes more thinking than weopon or skill. This is veary original and lots of fun. But it is pretty long. Over all its a pretty fun game and the weapons, characters, and story line tie all togeather.
| Mad fun | | Cory from Illinois,USA says (25/Jan/2004): | I saw comertials and add for it and thawt nothing of it my frend gave me a demo disc he didnt want and i couldent stop paying the demo got the game the next day played it for 19.5 hours stat with only 3 hours of sleep i never ever was that adicted to a game the second one o bought two days after getting the first and played for 25 hourd and beat it theres still more to do and lots of time to do it till the third my frend called me inhuman to beat a game with 3 hours of sleep i practicly have morized the game this is the best game ever and the second is awsom i never deame a game could be so fun and thay threw the second out a year later is asonishing this game is dekinetly differnt. the charicters had life to them anger and comidy grafics are unmached in the first and explosive in the second this game will last atleast 100 houers to compleat every thing and even more in the second the first was 20$ thesecond was 40$

| Ratchet and clank, a platformer to be proud of!! | | Ben from s yorks britain says (3/Jan/2003): | When you see screenshots of ratchet and clank your first impression may be that it is a little too cutesy and having heared that it comes from the makers of spyro may back up your early decision of th game. Well to a certain extent it is cute and childish but underneath those superb colourful visuals is a game with an astonishing amount of gameplay. Being a 16 year old and into gory games such as red faction 2 I am not biased in saying that the game is presented for the eyes of children but for the gameplay of an adult with a script the whole family can enjoy. The game boasts a hug aray of gadjets an guns and many cool minigames including the fast hoverboarding event and also the cool spaceship flying bits. he game is incredibly varied throughout but in certain places it doesget repetetive and becomes a victim of the platformers hit and collect ways. on the whole the lush visuals and detail along with the exelent gameply award this game a 9 just lacking on certain innovation.
| Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank | | Tristan from Toronto,Canada says (13/Feb/2005): | Insomniac's new creation Ratchet and Clank kicks < remove me > at $$.I liked Spyro but Ratchet and Clank is brilliant.I play it every day.A Lombax mechanic named Ratchet teams up with a robot named Clank They blow the $#%* out of Drek.Use over 30 weapons and Gadgets like the Omniwrench 8000,Telsa Claw and the R.Y.N.O.(My fav).Play as Giant Clank and try the Hoverboard Races.Glide with Clank's Heli-Pack/Thruster-Pack to high places in Metropolis.This game is good luck because in R&C:GC you get 5 weapons for free and in R&C:UYA you get old skool armor and 10% discount on weapons.Tips:To do a Twisty Mcmarx in the hoverboard race press R1,R2,L1,L2 in any order.When eqquiped with the Thruster pack you can slam and hover.To slam press X and R1 and to hover double tap R1.To get 20-25% off weapons get the pearsuader.For example the Telsa Claw is 40,000 bolts.When you have the pearsuader it's for 30,000 bolts.Thats all the tips.Out of all my PS2 Games this one is the Best!!!!!
| Refreshing | | Dave H from Medicine Hat Canada....EH? says (26/Dec/2002): | After playing similar games that happened to be sequels, like banjo tooie and donkey kong 64 this game was a refreshing trip back to what it was all about. The plot is simple but it keeps you interested in what's going to happen next. However, some or most of the ideas were stolen from other games, such as the perchasing of weapons at certain level incraments, much like dino crisis one and two. Also the idea of clank not only being on ratchets back but also being refered to as a backpack is a complete rip-off of 64's banjo and kazooie. However, the modestness of the game is very impresive, the villian is classy and logical instead of bloaded, discusting, or just plain huge as in most games. And the language of the characters is very enjoyable instead of offensive like I've seen in the past (donkey kong 64, konkers bad fur day, Grand theft auto vice city etc). All in all this game is a winner and it is suitable for all ages, I enjoy it. --Dave
| Loved the Game, but....... | | Michelle from Toronto (No SARS), Canada says (25/Apr/2003): | While I agree with all the comments about the amazing graphics and the sounds, there is just one source of frustration. I finished the game and beat Drek, then decided to go back and do all the skill points and obtain the Golden Weapons. The Golden Weapons are no big deal, just have to keep gather bolts till you can afford them. HOWEVER, I currently have 28 out of 30 Skill Points and the last 2 are near impossible. In fact it has now put me off the game. If anyone knows the best way to finish the first Hoverboard race in less than 1:35 then I invite you to tell me. Then there is the combinations of tricks you need to do to get the 4500 points on the second hoverboard race. I am so fed up with trying, I put the game away. Even though I like a challenge, there is point where it is no longer fun. I have now played Jak and Daxter 3 times, and while it is still challenging, the end is obtainable. It may be awhile before I revisit Ratchet and Clank.
