NBA STARTING FIVE review | | Cyrus from Eaton, Ohio USA says (13/Nov/2002): | I think the best aspect of this game is the fact that it's actually challenging. The AI is great although sometimes the computer controlled opponents will freeze or walk out of bounds for no reason, for the most part the game is very challenging. You actually have to control momentum, switch defenses according to the other teams offensive set up, concentrate your defense on a player who's in the zone. The graphics are excellent the players run, shoot, and look real. The dunks could look a little better, but overall the graphics are pretty realistic. The music is very entertaining, just like real arena music. The anouncers are very easy to understand, the spectators talk in the background. The commentators tend to repeat themselves a little, but they sound very enthusiastic and emotional about big plays in the game. I thin the sounds in the background during the games give it an "in the arena feeling". The controls are easy to learn also. The Icon passing makes it so much easier to pass to certain players or switch to a specific player on defense. You have to actually time your jump to block a shot which makes it very challenging to play defense, adding to the fun factor of the game. The refs tend to call alot of offensive fouls when they arent offensive fouls. Offensivly, it's very easy to control the shot, or pass. The crossover and spin moves are something that have to be practiced to put into good use, but once you know when to perform them theyre pretty good. What makes this game very interesting is the end of the year rookie draft after youve completed a year as a gm. There is also a list of retirees. So after youve De crowned the Lakers in Season mode, you can try your hand at managing an NBA team.WHich adds to the longevity of the game, Also NBA starting five will always be there if you want to challenge friends or family members which also gives it a long lifespan. Overall the game excellent, very fun game, not only with the season mode, but also with the GM mode. and a good game to back up all that trash talking with friends or family. The games graphics are great overall, its challenging, the sound is very realistic and the different modes gives this game an 8 out of 10.
