Great Game...pity about the ending |
| sean from london,england says (18/Feb/2004): |
As the title says the game in playability is one hell of a nice game. The character is on the cusp of geekiness and coolness, which kinda makes him likeable and that game so damn enjoyable. You have many different formats within the game from shooting, running, jumping, flying and each format holds its own in the game...very impresive. The overall game is a big plus and has a strong ability for replaying in the future. But the one major downside is the ending.I won't spoil it for you but after battling your way through all the various levels to end up like he does in the game...well its a downer.
If you see this game in the bargain bin grab it!.If not wait for it to be in the bargain bin.

Haven: Call of the King Review |
| Pete from England says (16/Nov/2003): |
I think Haven: Call of the King is a brilliant game. It kept me entertained for a very long time since it is really long and there are so many differnt type of gameplay. The only let down in the whole game was the ending, after completeing the last fight against Vetch (The baddie) you feel a real sence of achievement until about 2 seconds later you find out your left locked up to rot while Vetch escapes

A little lacking.... |
| A gamer from Deer Harbor WA, USA says (20/Jun/2003): |
I was expecting a pretty beefy game, but was kinda dissapointed. Dont get me wrong, its a cool game but there are several aspects that could use some improvement. Some people like the ship battle, I think it was horribly repetitve, the graphics are good, howeve the could use some cleaning up in some parts, not many though. The biggest hang up for me was the absolutely dismal ending that makes it seem like all your efforts are for nothing. I dont know, when I beat a game, I like to have felling of accompishment and I was sorely let down with this one. Overall its an ok game with some decent graphics, I strongly recommend renting it AND playing it for a while before you spend your hard earned cash on it. If your in doubt at all, go buy a good game like vice city or red faction 2 and be done with it.

Whoa! Nice graphics! |
| Shawn Salat from Iowa, USA says (8/Mar/2003): |
This game was sweet in the graphics department. The gameplay was awesome. I really like the yo-yo. The coolest thing was I have to say the ship battle on the way to the Isle of Heros. It took some time but I got through it without swearing once.
The sound is pretty good but that's the one thing I didn't like about it. The originality was kind of cliche' but I can live with that. When I first started playing it the obstacle course in the beginning was too easy. So I thought it would be dumb. But then I learned that in the longrun this is a truly amazing game. I didn't like that you were vulnerable right after getting attacked. It is kind of easy to beat. Even 100%. This game is easy to play for hours on end. I also like how you can replay a level and it tells you if you need to get the runestone or not. On replay value I could picture myself playing this game in 5 years and still loving it. Another cool thing if you beat it is the gallery in extras. It shows pictures of scenes, characters, enemies, etc. I thought it would be dumb when I first played it but it gets more and more exciting as the game goes on. If you are skeptical of this game's fun value, give it a chance and you'll be hooked I guarantee.

A pretty decent game |
| Adam from Nottingham, UK says (11/Dec/2002): |
Overall I think this game is very good.
The reason for this is amazing graphics and special effects (i personally like the blur effects underneath the spaceships).
The first thing I noticed when playing it for the first time was that it is SERIOUSLY huge!! I mean, your running around in a small town collecting trinkets to help you on your journey, then a few hours of gameplay later, you're in space having major dog fights.
This's not to say the game is perfect though, it does have its flaws! For one, the animation of the characters sometimes gets a bit robotic and some of the voice acting is little bit naff...(DR SPONGs voice in particular).
The game REALLY shines when it comes to originality, The advert for the game states that is ALL games...this is nearly true but pretty (damn) close. The RPG elements come about when you talk to villagers etc and have to perform tasks for them, the action elements are on going throughout the game and the racing parts are superb(I like the boat racing that also appears in the demo).
The main character - HAVEN - is a fairly good main character with some pretty handy tricks. Like calling Talon (his robotic bird) which allows him to get to higher areas, Gravbar sliding (where his yo-yo thing gets magnetised and you swing around on long rails to get hidden items).
I really like the extras you get for doing certain things within the game. The gallery in particular is really good.
Although I haven't yet completed the game (but i'm getting close), the extras are making the game a little bit more worth while.
Overall, HAVEN: Call of the king is pretty decent attempt at using the PS2s power...If you're not sure whether you'll like this game, rent it first!
See Ya!
