I have owned the game since it came out in North America and i personally think that it is in my top 10 for best game I have ever played. It is true it had major flaws like leaving out Trunks and Goku being so powerful. The part about not flying whenever you want to was a step in the right direction though. In the older games a guy could just puss out into the air to dodge an attack. I think when Goku is in SSJ he loses way to much energy and can not stay in SSJ very long. Thats funny because I was under the influence that in the "cell saga" he had trained to be able to stay in SSJ as long as he likes. And for those of you who craved the "Buu saga", it will be coming out in the sequel to Budokai. I had a problem with the ability to earn SSJ4 Goku in that game. The code or whatever was on so many sights including "IGN.com" that i figured it had to be real. You are suppost to beat Hard difficulty on the World Tourny with every character. I have done this 3 times over with no results...
Overall this game is amazing but I hope for a lot of inprovements for the next game...

The first dbz ps2 fighting game has arrived and it is awesome from the graphics to the character animations the voice actors did a great job my hats off to them.The controlls fit really well theres a number of combos and special attacks to keep gamers playing for along time.Theres a number of modes to choose from edit story and others edit is tight cause u can create a custom fighetr using your capsules.This game just rocks get this game this is a must have.

This has got to be the best game I have ever played, mainly because of all the coulerful characters in it. It took me like 3 days to complete it which is better than most beat m up games because they're usually over in a flash. I think that something that makes the game more attractive are the graphics and the fact that most of the time it keeps to the story line. The sound and music are really cool and they fit each seens mood perfectly and the tune somehow makes it easier to get into the game. I think that with its wierd names and easy to follow story, this game is one of a kind! Because of the funny voices and kick a$$ attacks, this games fun factore could burn a hole right through super siyan Goku himself!

listen up people, this was a great game. so it wasnt an exact duplicate of the show, no games are. this game i agree had plenty of room for improvement. they left out so many things. you dont even get to fight with yamcha, tien, chat-zu or anything else during the saijin saga. it would have been nice if you could have use vegeta in all his fight in story mode. he only has like 4 or 5. in the show, he had 14 before the end of the cell saga. i think they should have added where vegeta took out kewi, the nameks, and the fight with android 18. and dont get me started on trunks. he is one of my favorite characters, but he didnt do anything in storymode except a quickshot on frieza, and dying by cells frieza beam. he fought as an ultra ssj against cell and nearly won, i think they should have added that and allow you to use him in the fight with frieza. i like how the game works on the caps, only one prob, the breakthrough doesnt allow anything else. they should have made it to where you can use the dragonballs to wish for it to take less space. i had fun boosting supertrunks 2 to fight at +85%. i like that, but it is rather like an insult that goku's king kai fist x10(should have been kaoken) is stronger the gohons supersaijin 2. and vegeta didnt have any other power ups. not to mention frieza, he increased his power 6 times in the show, but he only has final form and 100%, if you can manage, you can get friezabot. on the show, goku had the ability to power up after going supersaijin, and they left that out. he also went ultra ssj in the time chamber they left out. goku says he has to train for the androids are comming, and even after the time chamber, his +40% to attack never went up. how dare they add hercule, some people thought it a joke, i think its an insult to all dbz gamers. i know this game had a whole lot of serious problems, but even still, overall it was a great game. i spent 19 hours strait playing it because i got hooked. but it lost its fun, and now there is nothing left for me to do on the game, i even got breakthrough for all the saijins. (except trunks) well, i think they should have fixed the power increases to be a little more accurate, i mean zarbons transform is as strong as gohon supersaijin. goku's king kai fist 5 is stronger then vegeta's supersaijin, what a joke. the also left out tiens solarflare from a usable move. i have to give some credit though, they actualy gave and #17 his energy field. anyway, i think this was still a great game, but it had a whole lot of room for improvement. why can goku not use his spirit bomb while he is a supersaijin, and why is big bang stronger than final flash. i gave my output, it still hand good music and gameplay(EXCEPT YOU COULDNT FLY WHEN YOU WANTED TO, YOU HAVE TO BE KNOCKED INTO THE AIR), they added goku training on the way to namek, they should have added the hyperbolic time chamber training for all of them, they should also have had the rest of the ginyu force. the graphics were to die for, the sound was good, and the gameplay rocks. it realy is a good game, just too many corks in it. and for all you whiners that there is no buu saga stuff, so what. the buu saga sucked anyway. it was the worst one yet. i did like a few things about the buu saga, but the rest sucked. anyway, leaving out majin buu and his 20 different forms was an improvement overall. i gave my review. 7/10

problem 1: it is too short. they should have stretched it up to the Buu saga, and maybe add the Garlic Junior saga (which adds more fights) and more people to the ginyu force (i.e. Jeice, Burter)
problem 2: give freiza all of his forms. if frieza had all forms (like cell) the game would have been a lot cooler, and perhaps longer because there would be more fights
problem 3: if they make a second game, it will be really short. they would have to stretch it past the Buu saga(which i one of the best sagas)
my opinion: me being a really big DBZ fan, this game rocks. i admit, it would have been cooler with more fights, if we could fight as Oozarus (the giant monkeys), fight as Buu, with fusions, and Super Sayains levels 3 and 4. thats the only thing i would change, but other than that this game kicks butt.

Hey everyone. This game was not that great. I mean sure it was a decent game but being a major DBZ fan myself I noticed some major flaws. Take for example the lack of characters. Where is everybody? No ginyu force, no Nail(my personal favorite Namek), no Frieza forms 2 & 3, no Android 20(what is up with that?!), no Chaoutzu, which made me mad, no Yajirobe, no Kiwi(one of Frieza's top men)! Need I go on? Also there are major innacuracys in the story mode. One being the complete lack of the Garlic Jr. saga which I was hoping to play. Another is that many scenes have been done wrong. They are little things usually but for any hardcore DBZ fan, or at least for me, they are like being shot repeatedly. Yes I did say shot repeatedly, that is how much it annoys me. Also, I know it's a fighting game but where's the interaction? I was hoping for a couple of role playing type elements to be in there as that was the impression I got from many articles I had read before I bought it. Instead it is just a regular fighting game. It would have been nice to have more of a twist. You know something like being able to alter the ending depending on what battles you win and lose so that lets say your playing the Saiyan saga and Goku gets killed then Vegeta becomes the legendary super saiyan or something along those lines. I was also hoping that when I read things about being able to make a "custom" character it meant that I would actually be able to create my own character. This is not the case. You can simply take already existing characters and put other moves on them. Another thing about the story line is that it took me 5 hours to beat it. That is almost the least amount of time it has ever taken me to beat a fighting game. Street fighter ex plus alpha and the gundam battle assault games are the only ones that can top that. The character moves are also very repetitive. The thousands of combos that I read were in the game are actually just the same combos for every character just with a different name. Another thing is that the battlefields your characters fight on kinda suck. There is maybe one interactive thing you can do with each level(get knocked through mountain, etc.). I was hoping for something more like some of the street fighter games for psx where craters are made when you hit the ground and you can get knocked through walls and stuff. The world tournament mode is also ridiculous because the AI that you fight is way cheap. They basically knock you into the air and then knock you out of the ring. Mostly because the ring is so friggin small. For God's sake, the rings we fight in at the martial arts tournaments I go to are that size. Graphics and sound arent to bad though and its refreshing to finally play a game based on an anime where the voice actors from the show are cast to do the acting for the game. All and all though, the downsides outway the good side of the game. Duel is fun for a rainy day though so If your a hardcore fan like me, go ahead and pick it up if you really wanna invest $50 on a game you'll only play on rainy days. If not, don't say I didn't warn you.
P.S. Stay away from Ultimate Battle 22 at all costs!!!

DBZ Budokai,I must admit that the tournament and vs modes are fun,but...Stroy mode wasnt as great as i thought.
they missed LOTS of parts and characters to put,for example:They missed the part when Vegeta is about to destroy earth whith his Garlick Gun and Goku counters it with a King Kai Fist Kamehameha,when Frieza is chopped in half,The battle of Cell V.S Super Trunks 2 after Vegeta's and a weird thing,When Cell is resurected before anyone can see him he launches the beam to Trunks,not half n hour after he is resurected,Where are all the forms of Frieza?The ginew force member Jeice,Burter ect.And one thing,I like dueling against friends in this game very much,but WHY I can't fly whenever i want to?I ust can fly to where the opponent is,in my opinion that was a bad mistake.Anyways I like customizing my characters and use them in tournaments..I hope they Correct this mistakes in Budokai 2...Well,I hope so......

dbz budokai was awsome,it is to easy to beat though. also wheres the hole ginyu force and it never shows the garlic jr. saga that would add some char to it. but over all it was awsome probly the best game of dbz/gt so far. the story line has to be longer and they need to show trunks and go10 more.

say i am the BIGGEST dbz fan and i love everything about it all the moves everything.i think budokia is the best game ever!! the graphics are great the musics cool and so are the chareters and the story mode is awsome but the thing is the creators didnt add in the buu saga or kid buu and it doesnt have super sayian 3 for goku thats the only downer about it :( but the overall it ROCKS!!!

this game wasnt the best game ever but it really keeps you busy the storyline is a little messed up but over all its okay its really short and doesnt have that many charecters and it isnt as good as final bout the graphics are awesome though i hope that budokai2 is better....... well any way thats what i thought hope u enjoy ^ ^

I can't believe how many people on here say that Budokai is the best DBZ/GT game ever!! It is not!!! Buy a converter and get one of the imported games, they are much better. Budokai couldn't ever get the story down right. In budokai many aspects of the story mode are off. One for example is that it never shows Freiza getting chopped in half. The story mode is also extremely short. I beat it in about 3 hours on hard. The only real fight in the story mode is the last one against Cell (that one alone took me 45 minutes). They are makin a Budokai 2, that one will be even shorter since it will only have the Buu saga. In Budokai they even skip a saga! I know that no one cares about this saga (The Garlic Jr. Saga), but it would still add more character and at least take up more time in the story mode. It would be nice in Budokai if they had some RPG'ing. Like getting to walk around and talk to people, or train in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Well, In all budokai is decent, but no where near the best DB/Z/GT game.

This game has to be one of the best games that ps2 will ever come out with (considering that ps3 is coming out soon) but concidering this game it is freakin awesome the best DBZ game so far the story mode is to die for and the graphics u just cant get enough og i dont know what it is but i am hooked although the story mode is a liitle short deal with it they only have so much room to make a game i know that no matter if the creators made this game even better then the cartoon (which i am the biggest fan ever) there would be people that doesnt like it and that is there problem however for me it was THE BEST GAME EVER. PEACE OUT HOTDOG BUSCUIT

I loved this game. Dragonball Z Budokai is one of the best games I've ever played. Really. It has great sound, Graphics, everything is great. Plus i love to kick the crap out of the baddies. This game is extremely addictive. But one down point I beat it in practically 2 days. Oh well, cant beat this game. I'm a huge fan of DBZ I've see so much and learned so much from it. I'm a geek, I know, but this game is great. I hope u love it as much as me!!

It is avery good game and the graphics are fantastic compared to the dragonball z games on playstation.The gameplay rox.The sound is very good too.I like the fact that you get to transform into super saiyan in the battle.The only letdown is the characters.They only take you to the cell games saga!I mean have you those idiots heard of Majin Buu!!Also there is no super saiyan 3 goku.Besides that it is a very cool game.If it would have had those two things I would've given it a ten.

Budokai is sort of cool but you left out some great charectors. I mean where is the rest of the Ginyu Force, where is Jeice, where is Burter, where are the other forms of Frieza. When Goku fought Frieza, Frieza lost the battle only because his legs were cut off. I have been watching the Buu saga latly and I looked at all the bad guy in other world watching the fight and I said where are they in Budokai. My point is you need to make the game so it follows every footstep of every charector that you use and hopefully add in the game. Now mabey it was bad that I gave the game a 1 but I have mixed fellings about the game.I really don't know much about DBZ but I know what I'm telling you is true. The reason that I don't know much is because I started watching DBZ when my favorite show, Mobile Suit Gundum Wing, was taken off the air and I needed another action cartoon to help me get over it. Budokai needs more than just the main men and it needs to be stretched from the very beginning to AF saga which is the very end! I asked questions and I don't care! Now you probably won't post mine but I am not only speaking for myself but for my friends. You need to make the next game like Final Fantisy 7,8,and9. They have 4 discs because there so long. I rest my case.

The time I got it I whas exited but first it turned out cool!By day 2 I already beat the game and got all characters and everything, but the only thing that i didn't get was tournament level advanced.The game has great sounds,graphics,chracters and game modes.Cool Hint: Play practice or tournament and vs. mode and pick Trunks and instead press square on the character and the custon or normal and whaen you play the game turn super saiyan and Trunks hair will be tight.THIS GAME IS COOL!!

i have to agree with the rest of thim the graphics are good but there sonds suck and they only put the vegeta saga raditz saga frezia android and so on but where is gerlic jr, cooler,majin buu and all his stages, android 13, 14, 15, and super android 13 this game was fun but it could have been better. I beat the game in 30 mins I WOULD GIVE IT A 6 THOU FOR EVER THING ELSA

out of all the dbz games I played this is the best. the characters are awesome.in story mode you go from saiyn to cell games saga. there is no buu saga or the characters in it that is what I hate about it.you get basicaly every move from the game including burning attack death ball super kamehameha and spirit bomb.there is a tournament mode. I think the best people are teen gohan goku cell frieza vegita and trunks.that is my review

Dudes and Dudetts this game rocks the house; and im not even into the show or anything... I like the old fashioned beatem' up games and this is one. Just like the original "street fighters"(tm). I could go on and on about this game haveing great graphics and the best cast of villans and good guys... My personal favorite character is Yamcha (R). I also like many others but thats my fav. i just wanted to put this in because it rocks!!!

Lets talk about the graphics first. The graphics are good and all but the thing that sucks is that when you transform your voice doesnt change except when you do a special move. The sound is awsome the only bummer about it is that only the starting movie (and when you start a chapter)has real dbz music. I think the pictures are kind of cartoonish(like when you pick your charecter etc.). I think the world tournament ring could have been bigger. Now I think the are enough charecters to make it a good game but there could have been more(like videl and majin buu etc.). It could have had more sagas like the buu saga. But other than all that I thnk it was great. A must buy game.
