It just so happens Dragonball got me started on anime 8 years ago and ever since I have seen every movie, played every Dragonball game and watched every avalible episode.When I bought this game i thought it would be okay, maybe a little better than FINAl BOUT, which sucked,Boy was I suprised that two weeks had passed me by And I Still Loved IT. I cant say this is the best fighting game ever, but it isnt bad. I follows very close to the series and the intro is from the movies(worlds strongest, tree of mightand dead zone).I would covet this game if I were you, and if your really good invite friends over to play,because theres nothing worse than losing to a friend whos never played the game.If you have looked into it, you'll know you can go to Mr. popos shop and buy cool stuff to customize your best charecter.If your lucky youll come across all the dragonballs and you can call upon shenron to grant you a wish(this is my favorite).If you a hardcore gamer like me you will see that it is a fun game but the gameplay gets a little repeditive and most of the moves(combinations) are the same buttons for every charecter.In other words, if you are a good player withone charecter, youll do well with many charecters.all of the charecters voices from the anime on cartoon network are the same in this game,no cheap voice sound alikes.which is why this is like owning a piece of the animes history to me its like a cel but those things are hundreds this is a good priced item,$50 buck somplaces $40 other it just depends wher and when you shop.
| Boring!!!!!!!! | | Sergio_13 from Canada says (28/Dec/2003): | k dragonball budokai 2 was good 2 an extent but there are many flaws with it, thats why im giving it a 1, my first complaint is that there is no difference in attack and defense, for example Goku who is one of the strongest fighters has 100 fight and 100 defensive, yamcha who is not even a saiyan nor could even beat a member of the ginyu force has 100 attack and 100 defensive!!??? how the hell are they equally strong, Goku killed majin buu for god sake Yamcha's power lvl at that time was still not enough 2 even kill frieza i mean come on lets give the gamers some credit, another problem was when the saiyens turn into Super saiya jins, it takes an amazing amount of ki to turn into ssj3 in the shows but in the game goku does it in a snap with a lil flash, in the shows he goes explosive and uses up alot of ki and it takes more then 1 second 2 do.... uhm what else hmmm... i did not like how Frieza and Cell always came back in all the different lvls in the dragon ball world, i mean how many $#< remove me > at !ing times do i have 2 kill them??? its ridiculous.... another was that everybody basically has the same moves... which is not true in the storys, when did Krillen learn Kamehameha??? unno but its there and he learns kamehameha way b4 he even learns destreco disc which is suppose 2 be his main move.... so it gets boring really fast... but otherwise i do like the graphics how they are more cartoon drawn it makes u feel like u more in the game and right there on the Battlefield, maybe im being harsh by only giving a one, but this game dosnt deserve much better...

the stroy mode is great. It is only up to the cell games.
here's some stuff to help u out:
Hercule: Play Adept tournament: U must have more than 2000 zennie.
Legends of Hercule mini game: Defeat the Adept tournament with Hercule.
Advanced mode: beat Adept tournament as Goku, Gohan , hercule or trunks.
Gt.saiyaman: Beat Advanced mode with Teen gohan.
Vegeta strory: Beat the game, then go to stroie mode and Pick 6th clip. U will be playing as Vegeta and Fighting goku, Gohan and krllion in sucession.
Piccolo v.s radditz: Beat the game, Come back to stroy mode, select saiyan saga , then pick the second video clip. u will be playing as piccolo againts raddittz, saibamen x3 and nappa.
Yamcha: beat Zarbon with Vegeta.
Super Vegeta: To unlock transformation, U need to beat Imperfect cell with ss Vegeta.
Trunks: Beat perfect cell using Super Vegeta.
Super trunks: Beat Imperfect Cell on Hard using only ss vegeta.
Super Trunks2: Beat Perfect Cell on hard only using Super Vegeta.
Super vegeta2: Beat Imperfcet Cell a second time on hard using only base Vegeta.
Power weighted Cell: Beat Cell on the last fight of the game with teen Gohan ss2 and using the Super kamehameha.

| Why this is the best DragonBall Z game ever | | Mark White from Widnes,England says (15/Feb/2003): | DragonBall Z Budokai is excellent. The story mode is very short but that doesn't matter. Once you have completed this you can always try the tournament mode. Here you can win ziene which goes towards customising your favourite characters. A really good touch has been added allowing you to summon the dragon which will grant you a wish. Also the fact that you can transform during battle makes the game that bit more exciting and origional. One of the best features on the game in my view is that you can customise your favourite characters adding to them as you progress in story mode.In fact the only faults that I can find with this game is that there is no Buu saga which means no Vegetto or Super Saiyan 3 Goku. This is a must have for Dragonball Z fans, but unless you are familiar with the series this game will confuse you as it dosent explain everything that goes on in story mode. Then there is the burst mode which requires you to batter the analogue stick and hope that you win. Then there is the move movies which happen with all the mojour moves like the spirit bomb. Most gamers will find that it lasts a bit longer than other games as there are 23 charachters to test your limits on and things like new transformations and moves to keep you glued to the screen. The reason that I liked this game was because I like the series and I like over the top moves and transformations and taking on the worst enemies such as Cell and Frieza. Lets hope though that if they make a sequal to this then Margin Buu will be in it.
| THIS GAME IS AWWWWSOME!!!!!!!!! | | MATT from kentucky ,USA says (2/Mar/2003): | First of all I would like to say this game is awsome. theres twenty-three playable characters including Frieza,Vegeta,and Piccolo!Also the story mode is real cool,you play as characters such as Cell,Goku,Piccolo,and more.The main downfall is you can't play as Majjin Buu or Chou-zou.The story mode like I said is cool,you play through the Saiyan saga,Namekian saga,and Cell games saga.The sound is also great.The original voice actors from the show lend their voices to the game.The game's background music is awsome.While your playing the game music adds an extra edge to the game.The graphics are also sweet.The game makes you feel like your watching the cartoon.The backgrounds also look very nice.It's not just fun to sling your oponent through a mountain,plumb through the ground,or beat on their dead carcass it's fun to watch it happen.After the story mode if you can beat advanced tornament mode and check Mr.Popo's skill shop you will unlock the "Legend of Hercule" mode.{it's where you play in what the public thinks happened at the Cell Games tournement.}The special skill grapics are real good.Like Goku's Kamahamaha or Vegeta's Big Bang Attack looks like your watcing them use their attacks on the cartoon.The most impressive I think are Piccolo's Speacial Beam Cannon,Vegeta's Final Flash attack,and Trunks' Burning Attack. They should have put characters from the buu saga in the game. I thought there should have been more characters in it, or at least be able to fuse in it. The story mode was great,not too long not to short. It could have been more challenging in story mode but it was okay. Back to the battleing and fighting. It wasnt violent at all!!! They could have at least had them bleed a little, like when Krillin uses his destructo disc it goes straight through the characters like a ghost. I thought the contols were good through out the game. It took me a while to learn how to custamize the skills but eventualy got it. The voices fit the characters perfectly, I thought the voices would be bad but they werent bad at all. It took me a while to beat advanced mode on world tournament but I beat it finally , I expected to get get a character worthy of being in the game but I got that stupid ladybug the GREAT SAIYAMAN. If they put him in why not Buu or Goten? I thought the graphics were better than any other game Ive played. I hope they make a sequel to this one,hopefully Buu is in it. I finally beat the Legend of Hurcule it took me a while. All I have to say about Hurcule is he sucks. Sense Im a really big DBZ I cant give them anything but a 10. Well sense Im running out of things to say I will say this Funimation sucks,Android 17 is awsome,and Hurcule still sucks.

The best part about Dragonball Z Budokai is that there are so many characters. The best characters I think are Frieza and Cell, the reason I think these characters are the best is because they have mant different transformations and moves. The best move for frieza is death ball or so i think, the best move for Cell is Spirit bomb. After you get a lot of money from tournaments you should buy lots of capsules. look for frieza 100% final form and cells perfect form (power weighted) those two transformations are really helpfull in the touraments.
One thing they probably could improve is that the campaign is really short. Capsules are very helpfull when your facing tough opponents in the tournaments expecially advanced. If you want to win easily and get all the characters look for defensive capsules, a very helpfull android defence is android barrier, it shields you from any attack from a ki blast wave. Use defensive manovers when facing the tournamants dodge and then strike is the best strategy, o and dont forget to watch out when they throw you across the field, dont get knocked out or you automatically lose, which that really sucks when your so close to winning, it can get you reallt frustrated. Also vegetas big bang attack and final flash are great killers. they take out most of the opponents life.All in all dragonball z budokai is one of the bestgames there are
| The game is very short! | | J.J says (22/Mar/2003): | Graphics. The graphics are very good I must admit, they are very detailed for cartoon characters. There is over 12 different locations to battle and they are all very impressive, the graphics are overall very impressive and hard to be improved in my opinion. Sound. The sound is one of the main problems, why is there not any proper dbz series music, why do the characters speak japenese and voices sound far much different which spoils it terribly. The sound effects on the super saiyan transformation however are magnificent, and the crashing into mountains effects are great! Gameplay. The gameplay is very fun, and entertaining, but it is jut far too short during story mode! It lasts for about a week before you unlock everything, the story mode is missing alot too, it skips important scenes such as Cell absorbtion technique. However it does include details like Gohans arm when it is broken during battle. There is an impressive tournament mode where you can win prize money, you can visit a capsule shop which is a good idea, there is alot of exciting factors that you will discover if you rent this game. So the gameplay is pretty good I guess, and there is blood. However, it is like Tekken accept you can fly and use energy blasts! Lifespan. It will last very long and the game is pretty tough because it alway falls on the floor it still works! Overall, a very good game and a great attempt!

However, if you're a DBZ fan, or if you could care less about all that pollished graphic jargon like me, then you'll like it. This game has three basic modes. Story mode (which combines the first three saggas of the DBZ series into one game), duel (a simple one on one), and World Tournament. I find World tournament to be the hardest features, because it's pretty much the only combat where getting knocked out of the ring counts as a loss. And I ALWAYS GET KNOCKED OUT! I can make it to the finals, and that's the best I've done.
The best thing is that the voice actors from the TV show are in this game as well. Plus, the characters are in full 3D, so that's always a bonus. Story mode is fairly short, but it's challenging. Most of it is just fighting, but the rest is a couple of mini-games or fights with objectives, such as the Cell Jr. gauntlet. The only bad thing is that some attacks are almost impossible to attack.
The attack thing pretty much makes quite a chunk of the game to me, and only being able to SUCCESSFULLY perform the kamayamaya and a couple others where everything else is impossible made my rating drop to a seven out of ten. Other than this, and a couple other issues, that's all I found wrong with it. This game is pretty good, and a possible collector's item for DBZ fans.

yep,thats right no super saiyan 2,3,4 for those who think theres a super saiyan 4 goku you're dead wrong and if there is give me the codes. there could have been better by the characters,sagas,and the skills.the combos are a little hard the story line really rushed i almost beat the who game in two days all i have to do is get great saiyaman in tournament and beat that hercule thing.the battles in the story was they battles are so so so so so so so so so so easy they hardest thing is the freiza part and the special beam cannon where you control goku to position raditz on the line in the eight seconds thats all.there should be more than 60 combos per a character and more than 5 modes Battle mode where you 1 on 1. tournament mode where you compete for money(zenie) to buy skills.story mode when you do the story.hercule mode when you try to meet the stats of hercule you fight all the 11 people in the cell games yamcha,tien,krillin,gohan,cell,goku,piccolo,android 16,vegeta,android #18 and #17. also practice mode you should know what you do here

BTW if you have this game and are reading stories and cheats to get Gotenks/SSJ4Goku/Bulma to play forget it theyre all FAKE dont even try them its a waste the sad thing is for all of you cheaters this games not going to be good because theres really only 1 cheat that works and that is the Shenron cheat
Graphics= 9/10
Sound= Same voices for the show same sound so the watches of the show this has awesome sound 10/10!
Gameplay= Really good the moves of the graphics are awesome 10/10
Replay= No replay well you could do that for capsules but other than that its a waste 6/10

Whenever in the final battle or any battle if you fight a guy anytime he could either be too easy or too hard it happened to me many times YOU NEED PATIENCE TO BEAT THE TOURNAMENT expecially what i found out that the Adept Mode(Which is the second hard level and htere are three) is harder than the Advance one other than this this game is a MASTERPIECE

Although the actual fighting is not very hard this game will keep you busy for a long time. It didnt take long at all to get all the characters or all of the skills. The thing that is what takes long to get are the breakthroughs because you have to collect the dragon balls like 23 times and they are really hard to find. This game is sweet because they added a story mode to a fighting game and that is very rare. It would be even better if they had tag battles so you could use the multi-tap and have 4 player battles. I really like the gameplay and the game can be for beginners or advanced players. I think they should have put in some more outfits and have more characters and make them harder to unlock. The super sayian levels are ok because the game only follows through the cell games and no one in the series have above a SS level 2 by then. They did a good job making all of the characters equal in strength although some of the characters are a bit faster then others and that is the best advantage in this game because you can attack more and block faster. I don't doubt that there will be another DBZ game for PS2 and other consoles and I'm really looking forward to that. Overall this is the best DBZ game ever!
P.S. Isn't it funny how the graphics are better than those in the series?

Yea it's easy to be and to unlock all characters but it;s one of those games you dont get bored of right away. Plus there are alot of moves you can buy or earn. I still havent figured out what the dragon balls to yet b/c i still need one but i will. Goku in his SSJ4 form is the coolest character in the game. Next is defenently Trunks2. This game really captures some oof the oves from the show and are accurate. Say Android 16's hell flash. I just watched that episode the other day. Or Goku's Warp Kamehameha. I would have to say m favorite moves would be SS2 Gohans Super Kamehameha move and Super Vegeta's Big Bang Attack. Oolong is kind of retarted and i dont think he is worth the effort to get but hey it's your choice. Umm spend alot of time buying capsules. There are plunty of hidden goodies. ALMOST ALWAYS CHOOSE TO GAMBLE. Recommended has alot of the same stuff you already have...once in a while there will be something new but dont count on it too often. In gamble you may buy alot of the stuff you already have also but there is a high chance you will get a Yellow Outlined Card(Really Rare). Plus this is where you will get most of your dragon balls. LoL You could do what i did and beat the Advanced World Tournament with every character before spending any of it.
| good game! | | A gamer from Florida, USA says (31/May/2003): | Well, the only thing missed right here was the majin buu saga, i'd love to have it, but i hope if there's a sequel it will until extremely deep part of Dragon Ball Gt that will be great! the gameplay is sweet because the controls are really easy to use, this makes easy to make any special powers you want like the spirit bomb.Fun,what can i say?, if you are a Dragon Ball Z fan like me you'll love the story mode i was impressed to see how deep it was twenty-nine episodes of the story and there is also the world tournament a little be hard at the beginning but once you practice you'll improve your defense and your aquaracy you will have no problems beating it. My favorite move by now it's "a present for you" it's hercule's and it is really funny you can even collect the seven dragon balls,and buy the capsule "The Legend of Hercule" in which you have to beat all the z fighters and at last cell.Graphics are even better than the show even thought they could be even better. The Value mmmmm the game is completely worth 40 or 50 dollars probably in a couple of months the price will drop i hope this take a long time i mean everybody like cheap games but, it will not be fair for those who really appreciatte the game and paid 50 dollars see how other people get it brand new for 20 dollars.
| This game is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Patrick Hernandez from USA says (12/Jun/2004): | Finally!!!A cool game i could never get tired of.This game is the best game I`ve played so far because I think number 3 is coming out and It`s probably going to be Gt with a lot of cool characters that Budaki 2 doesn`t have.I hate that the fact that at the end of every battle the player that wins isn`t all beat up with his cloths torn or dirt on him with blood.Also I don`t like the dragon world because it sucks.It should be like Budakai 1 because their dragon world is like a show.In the game I have unlocked everything, to tell you the truth I think I will never get tired of this game I love it.I will keep on playing it over and over again until Budakai 3 comes out,until then I will be waiting for it and it should be awsome.My favorite characters to fight with is almost all of them except the androids because they suck.I like android 18 she`s cool.I hate Recome because he`s dumb with his stupid saying ''you do well you do well".I just love teen Gohans Father-Son Kamehameha it`s awsome.My most favorite character is Gotenks I like him because he has 2 of my favorite characters fused Trunks and Goten and I like that the fact that Gotenks and Goku can go Super Saiyan 3.Gohan is cool because he can unlock Elder Kai`s ability.That is all I have to say about this awsome game.
| it was pretty tight but needs improvements. | | Greg says (2/Dec/2003): | Dragon Ball Z Budokai is a very fun game. it has some really good vices and some vertues.The good thing about the game is its kindof addictive and it keeps u playing, but once u beat stroy mode its fun declines a bit.Some things it needs to change are the flying, i mean u need manual flying to increse its excitement. another thing, the level up transform thing is a little bit messed up. i mean, ss Vegeta is NOWHERE near the level SS Goku. the levels should be individualy set, not like hercule's first transfirmation is High Tension(level 1 transformation) and SS Trunks (level 1 transformation) is equal power......thats messed up..CAUTION if your going to get this game and read this interview I STRONGLY SUGGEST U SET THE DIFFICULTY HIGHER BECAUSE I DIDNT AND I BEAT IT IN LIKE 2 DAYS(only because i rented it late and had to go to bed) IT IS WAY TO EASY ON NORMOL AND IF UR A HEAVY GAMER ITS TO EASY!well, overallits a fun game even if ur not a DBZ fan, but if u are a fan, this game is a must have for its the BEST DBZ game ever made(except for Legendary Super Warriors for GBC which kicks way more ass then the GBA legacy of goku and trading card game).

I mean where is the rest of the Ginyu Force, where is Jeice, where is Burter, where are the other forms of Frieza. When Goku fought Frieza, Frieza lost the battle only because his legs were cut off. I have been watching the Buu saga latly and I looked at all the bad guy in other world watching the fight and I said where are they in Budokai. My point is you need to make the game so it follows every footstep of every charector that you use and hopefully add in the game. Now mabey it was bad that I gave the game a 1 but I have mixed fellings about the game.I really don't know much about DBZ but I know what I'm telling you is true. The reason that I don't know much is because I started watching DBZ when my favorite show, Mobile Suit Gundum Wing, was taken off the air and I needed another action cartoon to help me get over it. Budokai needs more than just the main men and it needs to be stretched from the very beginning to AF saga which is the very end! I asked questions and I don't care! Now you probably won't post mine but I am not only speaking for myself but for my friends. You need to make the next game like Final Fantisy 7,8,and9. They have 4 discs because there so long. I rest my case.

All though the graphics were good, the story mode i beat in one day. The sound is good. But the game is so easy to beat, and it gets so old fast. Even though you can unlock ss4, for goku,it takes so long to do that, i mean it would be alot easier if the stupid game didnt get so old so fast. I mean come on, were the heck is Buu. That is the gayest part of them all. Why the heck does it only go to cell, i mean the buu's are the best part in the whole show. That is the part that makes me so mad, nobody likes cell, everyone wants to see Gotanks and get to beat the Buu's. And in the show Goku is not the only one that goes ss4, gotanks does it too. And the game is alittle childish for me. And the whole game is about collecting dragonballs, and when you do it, nothin really happens. Wow, you open all the moves for a character, big deal. So for all you losers out there that think this is a good game, think again, maybe that is a sign for you to grow up you faggits. And one more thing, why the heck is hercule even in the same game as these guys, come on, in the show he is just a loser dude that gets in the way. So why would you put him in the game and not Chowsue. That is dumb just like the rest of the game.
