great game for fans of the show |
| A gamer from Farnborough England says (31/Jul/2003): |
this game is great it rocks and the characters are good too but there should have been more variety in the moves I think the amount of characters is great because 22 characters is a good amount of characters for any fighting game. the controls are quite good if annoying at first but only for a short time. The story mode should be longer and transformations could have been done better but overall the game looks and sounds great. Also lack of the ability to fly and the fact that the tournament can only be fought in the ring (stupid ring outs) and the fact that you can't fight against your own custom characters bring the game down and they should have included the option to have the voices in english cos the japanese ones are cool but a bit annoying at times fans of the series will love this game and everyone else should like it too a good buy lease contact me with your opinions of the game.

My Opinion |
| A gamer from Portland, Maine says (18/Feb/2003): |
This is my opinion of DBZ-B. I feel it was a great game, and everyone by now knows what characters are in it and what capsules do what by now. So I am going to state a few things that could have made it better: Some characters could have had better moves. Tien's Tri-Form technique. Tien's Solar Flare. Chaotzu. Cell uses his tail to drain life. Fusion with characters. Bulma. Master Roshi (if you can have that dimwit Mr. Satan in it why not have Roshi?) Use actual animation from game. Krillin's Destructo Disc could have been stronger. Dragonballs should be quest items instead of bought from Mr. Popo. Why does Popo sell Capsules and not Bulma?
I felt this was a very entertaining game at best and many things could have been added to this game to make it better, since it is on Playstation 2 and not Playstation 1. But all in all it was a good game and is worthy of 8 stars.

DRAGONBALL Z....infogrames .......stuffed..someting..up |
| sirgamesalot from perth western australia says (12/Dec/2002): |
i havent played dragonball z ive got it for chrismas so i dont no what it will be like it should be good but im righting this becuase info grames made 2 versions of dragonball z budoki i mean why thhe pal version which is teh european version is voiced in the original japanese voices reading in english and most of it is in japanese like for example gohan say masengohon and goku's name is son goku but the us has teh voices from teh show the voices that where us to i mean dragonball z was made a long time ago and isnt very big in the asian countrys so why diddnt the just voice it in us it would of made a hell of a lot more sales. So that means i cant stop thinking that im missing out on some thing but a few people in the us want the pal version they think that this version would be better but why i dont plan on leaning japanese just to get the story mode all to make sence.

I think this game is brilliant! |
| Alison from United Kingdom says (18/Jan/2003): |
This may be the first Dragonball Z game that I have played because you cannot get most of the games in the UK.
The characters are bright and colourful and most of the backrounds are very like in the DBZ series. Its fun because most controls are mostly easy and their talking japanise and say things which you cannot understand except it show english text at the bottom of the screen. The tourtamentis great becauseit can show the true strength of your character if there is no one to fight you in battle. Most of the game is based on the story but there is a bit were Cell absorbs Krillin, I don't remember that happening in the Cell saga.
It is a great game with great music to go along with great electric guitars played and great voice actors ( even though in japanise) and would recommend the game to anybody who is a DBZ fanatic and is into fighting games.

This was ok, should have been so much better. |
| Matt The Afghan from Seattle, USA says (1/Jul/2003): |
To begin with I am not a fan of Dragon Ball Z so this might seem like im "hating" on it but im trying to be fair. When i first played this i thought it was pretty cool, never before could you play these characters with it looking good. But after playing it for a little i felt very limited. There are only three buttons to fight with and that limits your combos very much. There is only so much you can do with one kick button one punch button and a power button. And all of the characters have almost the same exact moves. That gets very tiring after playing with one character and going to another when there is no difference between them. You might as well pick one character and stick with him/her. So i recommend to rent this game and not buy it, unless of course you are a Dragon Ball Z fan then this is probably like a stick of gold to you. -Matt The Afghan

Are you Ready.... |
| Makeba Hinds from Tokyo, Japan (transfer student) says (19/Feb/2003): |
3 words. Dragonball Z. I personally think it is a good game but Ive seen better. You can definately tell its american made. While i'm currently Japan i noticed that the DBGT deals a lil differently then DBZ. Other then thaqt i really like the game. Trunks is Gorgeous, Gohan is a sweet lil kid and everry one from the saiyen saga till the cell saga is here. Its really amazing how the characters look so much like the ones on the actual anime. And how they followed the storyline so perfectly in story mode. The only thing is. I CAN'T SEEM TO NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRY TO BEAT IT I CANT BEAT ADVANCED MODE IN TOURNAMENT MODE!!!!!!!!! IVe tried everything but i cant beat it. Im sure i will beat it some day buty I stil like the game. The graphics are not the best yet stil atainable. All in all u DBZ fans out there get ur butts up and prepare for battel!!!

perfect conversion from tha cartoon |
| Kishoj Yogan from London,England says (22/Aug/2003): |
Graphics-tha graphics are really good cos they actually luk like tha characters from da cartoon, but they could have improved tha facial animation a bit.
Sound-tha sound from da game lets it down as its all in japanese, but tha japanese voice acting was authentic.
Gameplay-I really enjoyed tha gameplay,it is one of da best DBZ games in a long time, but its rather limited to just fighting, there shud be a mini game of sum sort.
Lifespan-the actual modes like tha story mode is rather short, but there is hours of replay value from da skill shop and finding tha dragonballs.
Fun Factor-fans of DBZ wud love this game as it perfectly replicates tha cartoon series, more hardcore gamers, wud find this game gud but lacking in depth.
Overall-Get this game as a rent,if u like it than buy it,if u don't than get a more suitable fighting game such as Tekken 4.

Lesson for the future |
| Vegeta's Final Flash from Bruges, Belgium says (11/May/2003): |
Well, I agree with what alot of people say: the Babidi and Buu saga's should be in the game, and thus also SSJ3 Goku, and Vegetto. I'd even say they had to put a few extra's in the game, like a few characters from the DBZ-movies... I'd also want to say that the main menu is pretty child-like, and besides, DBZ is not for the small kids, I'm 16 myself, and I still ove it. Another bad point is that you can't fly at will, that' can be really irritating some times. And alot of special things from the series are left out. Though that doesn't mean the game is bad, no! It's great! But it could have been even greater. If BANDAI makes another game for PS2 in this style, they should definetely make Dragon Ball Budokai! Just think about it, we've had a DBZ-game in this genre, how cool would it be to have the exact same, but then in DB-style??

SAIYA-JIN PRIDE!!!!! |
| torankusu(trunks) from TORONTO, CANADA says (14/Jan/2003): |
this is by far the best dragonball z game...so far they have to come out with a sequel. adding new things( such as the buu saga and as well as characters from movies like BROLI)However their are a few things missing(but i guess thats what the sequel is for) like training it was one thing that made the dragonball games different from other games now they have capsules/cards that are like pokemon. they should have you train when you wanna play against your friends.another is you weren't able to fly on your own someone had to hit you in order to fly. some of the ginyu force members were missing,or tien's tri beam attack, or his multiplying himself attack.I like the way they brought the dragonballs in the game aswell. FINAL THOUGHT ON THE GAME. although it is an amazing DBZ game compared to the others they still need to improve on it.

This game is da bomb to the extreme!! |
| Philip Thompson from Gattlinburg TN, USA says (3/Jul/2003): |
First of all, Dragon Ball Z Budokai appeals to all ages, which is great. Also this game will have you playing for more than just a week or two, it takes over your free time because you will have to be the best of the best to be able to unlock all the hidden secrets in the game. What more could a DBZ fan ask for, or any ps2 gamer for that matter. The graphics on this game are phenomonal. A+ for gameplay, like I said it hooks on to you and doesn't let go. The fun factor is no question--Awesome. Sound is great because it has the voices from the television show, not Japanese voices and they are clear as a bell. Originality gets an A on my account because all the other DBZ games are imports from Japan, first one ive seen in English. Lastly, and most importantly, the high speed velocity of the fighting is spectacular. This game rules.

Slayer From canada |
| Yes from Vancouver B.C Canada says (7/Nov/2003): |
I like Dragonball z Budokai it was great I have played dragonballz since it was first released on the family computer console to super nintento to playstation to ps one and now it is more greater for playstation 2 Im a huge fan and I like it but what I dislike is some of the bad words that the characters are saying in the cartoons it teaches some lesson and inspire of being a kid and a man I have watched dragonball to dragonball z saga i have finished the whole saga till gt and I have'nt heard them saying bad words while fighting... but the graphix are great and the game is awesome only some of the words. bec if a child or a kid is playing it they will pick up those words very bad... anyway I like the game I really do just play the game and do your best dont bother the cheats bec some of it are just a waste of time .......
|
not too cool |
| John from United Kingdom says (11/Aug/2004): |
This game is good like i mean the graphics and i like the way where they made the master roshi spin around it makes loading not as boring as other games. Also there are several bad points too first nearly everyone's attacks are the same and since when did cell have spirit bomb also the voices of the characters dont sound much like the actuall people in the episodes. I dont like the way they make things really hard to understand like the dragonballs and capsules and breakthroughs etc. Also there are too little allies available to you on each stage (max 3) in the actuall episode there are more than 3 fighters on 1 person well not at a time and since when is yamcha or tien equal as goku?????????? Also they make things too hard and it makes you wanna smash the tv when you loose or when something is actually impossible

DBZ Budokai Rocks! |
| A gamer from New Jersey says (13/Mar/2003): |
DBZ Budokai is one of, if not the best DBZ game i've ever played. Previous one's have been ok, but this one kicks rear end! I have 4 favorite characters, Vegeta, Trunks, Goku, and Gohan. i love the Super Kamehameha, and the Spirit Bomb, but one of my favorite moves is the Warp Kamehameha, and the Final Flash too. This game totally beats all other fighting games. i only have one problem with the game, the frigin' Tournaments are too darn hard! If anyone's got ne suggestions, please help! LoL, Anyway, i like the amount of life the game gives you too. Itz real fun and i enjoy playing the game, i'll give it a 9. And also, this game follows the storyline almost exactly. Which i find awesome! All i can say is, the graphics kick butt, it has all the right characters, and the gameplay is unbelelivable! Great Game!

its good, but it aint doa3 |
| A gamer from moscow, russia says (29/Apr/2003): |
yeah the game rules, it has some of the best known characters in the universe, they had some patches that would make the game better if the were filled, like why did they have just capt. ginyu and recoome and not the whole ginyu force, and being #20 would be just swell, and i really wanted to be chaiotzu, but the graphics fit the style of the game well (so everyone who says the graphics sucked, can shut up and go visit goz and mez in the hfil). another problem was that there werent too terribly many combos, but there were enough for me to like it. story mode is pretty cool, and it didn't need that huge pink blob that is buu, because now infogrames can put out another budokai thats even better and have ALL the characters in it. despite its flaws, dbz budokai is godd enough to get a super sayain 8 out of 10
|
I WOULD GIVE IT A TEN, BUT IT HAS ITS PROBLEMS |
| Mark from New York, USA says (13/Apr/2003): |
problem 1: it is too short. they should have stretched it up to the Buu saga, and maybe add the Garlic Junior saga (which adds more fights) and more people to the ginyu force (i.e. Jeice, Burter)
problem 2: give freiza all of his forms. if frieza had all forms (like cell) the game would have been a lot cooler, and perhaps longer because there would be more fights
problem 3: if they make a second game, it will be really short. they would have to stretch it past the Buu saga(which i one of the best sagas)
my opinion: me being a really big DBZ fan, this game rocks. i admit, it would have been cooler with more fights, if we could fight as Oozarus (the giant monkeys), fight as Buu, with fusions, and Super Sayains levels 3 and 4. thats the only thing i would change, but other than that this game kicks butt.

Too Short! |
| Bebi from Virginia, USA says (21/Dec/2002): |
Dragonball Z Budokai is by far the best DB Z/GT game out there. The only set back to the game is that there aren't enough battles. There are only about 20 battles in the whole game. One good thing is that you can go SSJ2 with three different characters (Vegeta, Gohan, and Trunks). The graphics on the game are perfect. They look exactly like the show. The voices are done by the people who do the voices in the series on TV. The controls in this game are pretty easy to learn. There are 23 characters in the game. Another good thing is that you can power up to SSJ or SSJ2 in battle. There are a few different modes of play, story mode, practice, world tournament, and the legend of Hercule*. The legend of Hercule must be bought after unlocking Hercule. Overall this is a great game and a sequal should be made.

Kool but starts to get annoying |
| Super_Raddits4 from victoria melbourne AUS says (17/Oct/2003): |
everyone is saying that this game is good, i agree but it is only fun to a certain extent for it starts to get annoying, for all the people who have played it i know you know what i'm talking about. There needs to be individual moves and combos to unleash, pretty much everyone has the same moves and combos com on whats up with that.I also think that the power ups are kinda pathetic and the transformations, like when turning into super saiya-jin they just go AHH and they've transformed. Com on turnng super saiya-jin mode is meant to be kool not a 2 second flash and then thats it. Budokai was to easy for everything is the same it doesnt matter who you go they are all the same, no diffence at all in strength levels or nuttin. Like krillin is as strong as super saiya-jin Gohan-kun 2 see annoying isn't it.

Super Game, SS4 Goku cheat works? |
| Graham Thirkill from Scarborough, UK says (1/Nov/2003): |
What a game. The story mode is superb, but is easy, I completed story mode the day I bought the game. The world match mode is super but it can get annoying and should have a continue feature especially when you are a couple of punches away from winning the final of advanced tournament and they use one attack and you go flying out the ring.
The characters are quite good actually, but the create the ultimate warrior thing is dissapointing. What it should have is what those WWF games have, a detailed create a character thing.
Imagine it, you could have a super saiyan 4 trunks! Nice.
Anyway, the game is superb and budokai 2 will be a blast! Could someone e-mail the very simplest way to get SS4 Goku? Thanks.
I have heard that on budokai 2 you can fuse anytime!!!!!!! NICE
I give the game 9/10.

DragonBall Z budokai, The best game ever! |
| Kid Sonher from Arlington,VA, United States of America says (16/May/2003): |
DragonBall Z Budokai is one of the best games for the PS2. The game has good graphics, the sound, and everything is okay. This is one of my favorite games for my PS2. This is really good because it includes the real voices from the show, and that's important. The battles are really amazing, especially when Goku, Gohan, or Vegeta become Super Saiyans. I really like it because the saiyans start in their normal stage, and then, they transform, not like other games from other systems that they start fighting as a super saiyan. I hope the next time they make another DBZ game, includes other sagas like, Garlic Jr. saga, and the most important, Buu saga. The Buu saga has to be in the game because I think this is the best saga. It needs to include, fusions too.

ATTACKS SUCK |
| zidane_143 from Ireland says (12/Jun/2003): |
It is a great game but if you look all the attacks look the same like for example the conitnous kamahiea is just basicly a few ramdom ki blasts and anyone who lives in ireland have the game why does it have part of the boo saga people on the back off the game tell me that and why can't so people be unlocked like on the story line and it is a shame that you can not turn aroze (monkey) what they need to do is get the game ultimate battle 22 and budokia and merge then so u can do the story line as well as build up your favourite charcaters and you could actually see there strengh stats etc and you get to a certian point where you can transform i think would be good and use then certian atacks i also like in bukokia the way u can hit people through the rocks etc.
