Getaway is way better than GTA:VC the graphics are terrific and realisitic. The missions are challenging and a helluva lotta fun. The storyline is something out of a Stephen Spielberg movie. This is DEFINITELY the best game I have ever played in my enitre life. If you have the meane BUY IT!!!

i thought the game was good allthough the controlls could of been better, they are easy to get used to i just wish you could change tehm in options or somthing. i don't like invert when shoting i like to push up and aim up not push up and look down but that happends with alot of games and you can usually change that but not in this game.the cars are cool because they are actual cars i just don't like how slowly they take off.i liked the swaring in the game the more the better. i think their should be more games just for adults. over all the game is sweet but to short i beat it in just a few days about four hours a day i can't wait to see another one with the improvments but it was a good game.

This game really isnt that bad but there should be some type of HUD(Heads up Display) so far i've rented it from blockbuster so i dont have a map but for those that are really concerned the game was made on realism so just go to triple a and tell them you want to go to london on a vacation and they'll give you a real map!!! i will be going to buy the game this weekend(payday) im only on the 6th or 7th mission i think but so far its not that bad. the view is NOT sluggish but he walks way too slow. he wals like Max Payne whoever has played hat knows what i'm talking about. he caould move faster but all in all i think the game is fun, and if they ever produce a second one it will probably be better and have more freeways and stuff... to the people that say they expected better than GTA: Vice just remember it took SoHo about 2-3 years to produce this game there are a limited number of cars because the graphics are so intensive and they didn't want to be the first people out with a 2 disc DVD-ROM video game imgine how much that would cost no one would want to buy it!! thats all for now i hope thi is 200 words!!! I bought this "3rd person" game with the impression that it was gonna kick the crap out of Vice City. I take it home, pop it in, and right from the beginning I am VERY impressed with the motion capture movies and the plot. Graphics are seamless and very well done (minues the cigar smoke that appears to pass through characters smoking them). There was a great deal of detail that was placed in the game from the characters, the cars, buildings, everything. The best feature about the game is its realism. This includes the fact that there is no health bar, no "definite" timer (although some missions are timed), cars react and handle like most would assume they would, and there is no indicator what so ever on your screen. Bullet holes and blood splatters were also very real looking. As I delved further and further into the game I began to realize there were many severe "problems" with it. First off, the controls were poorly done. The layout is nice but there is no option to change them or as it was stated earlier, "change the invert-nomal" aiming options. Another problem was that scenery is VERY fixed. The last time I checked you dont drive through a sign without knocking it over. You simply slam into a sign or post and it slows you down and you drive through it but the object remains. The camera angles were very poor in many situations. I cannot recall how many times I have died because I could not look the direction I wanted/needed to. It was very Resident Evil. The auto targeting could have used alot more work. Many times you end up aiming at the wrong person or worse, you cant aim up or down very far whereas the AI can, killing you in the long run. The controls can be very annoying in tight spaces (The Police Station) comes to mind when getting busted you get bashed trying to bash another person but end up clinging to a wall which brings me to another point. Because of the poor controls it is often hard to tell if you are going to cling to a wall, drop behind an object for cover, evasively roll, or grab someone from behind. The lack of a map driven guidance system of some sort also short-hands the gameplay. It is very easy to overshoot a turn by about a mile and end up taking some scenic detour costing you time and patience. The signals used on the car to guide you could have used a little more work. Another HUGE handi-cap would be the fact you cannot change your car views. You cannot look to the side or behind your car at any time, which would help to determine how close or far away pursuing vehicles are.
Other than these minor *cough* setbacks, the game is definetly something to try if you liked GTA3, Vice City, Max Pain, etc.

Well, let me start by saying this was a very good game. The graphics of the city and the cars were great, but in some other areas of the game like the people, it was a bit choppy. The story line and the language made the game realistic. Although, a bit racist at the end with lines like jungle bunny, spear chucker, and little slant-eyed $#< remove me > at !ers. I agree that after the game is over in free roam mode there is not much to do. There are to areas in the game that you can get some serious air with your vehicle. The first is the monument that has steps leading up to it (Eros) on Regent street. Go up Coventry St. near Lecester Square to the opening of the Eros monument had hit the steps. Also, when Mark and Yasmine pull out of parking lot to go get the stripper. Make a right and go until you are in front of the blockcade or police (The Filth) check point. There is a reddish very large building on the right side with a drive up ramp and some stairs on the other side. Go up the stairs at a high rate of speed and jump. Try to hit the Police blockcade!

first of all i would like to tell everyone that says that "this was the worst game ever" to stop whining. if you have a problem with it its beceause your not a skilled enough gamer. the graphics are amazing compared to gta when you shoot and kill people it dosen feel like beeting a doll with a baseball bat like in gta.although not giving a map was the stupidest thing they could do.and the police are ten times better"i dont care what others say". you dont feel like the police are all waiting for you to screw up.although the cars could use some work they are more realistic than gta.the story line was o.k could have used some work though.the last thing is you should have free roaming from the beginning. all in all its bigger better and greater than grand theft auto vice

there is no where to go and what is there to do on it, absolutly naff all. the good thing about Getaway is the graphics are better than GTA:VC where the mouths dont even correspond with the words, the other is the sound is brilliant with the back grond but when your being chased by the cops you can't tell if there close by or far away!

This is honestly the best game i have ever played on the playstation 2 it makes grand theft auto vice city look like the muppets anyway i reccomend this game to people who enjoy a good challenge and a good gunfight.The graphics are of the up most quality,i also think the sounds are excellent the gameplay is good and quite fast.To be honest you must have a very fast reaction to play this game as you are always being shot at from every angle possiblly,i personally enjoy this because it is a great challenge and im glad to finally play a game of this quality and calibar,the reason i say this is because most playstation 2 games are to easy but this game wow its hard.so all you playstation 2 lovers out there get this its out of the ordinary and you are guaranteed a decent challenge.

The missions are fun and action packed the graphics are very realistic its fun just to cruise the streets of london in your favourite car the police are more realistic on getaway rather than grand theaft auto vice city because thay put hand cuffs on rather than just smack you on the floor also if you go through a red light or over take on the wrong side of the road thay will case you and thay give you a chance to surrender so i give the getaway 9/10

the Getaway is good Very good and is Great Game play. But it suffers With no motorbikes or Boats like In Vice City. Hope they make a Getaway 2 and improve more on it As in motorbikes Boats and so on but all in all its a good game

I live in Bethnal green, and this game amaizes me!
I know exactly all the roads and buildings and even some of the roadworks are actually there in real life! fantastic.
the cars are MOST realistic an what a great selection if you can find them all.
the only real let down was compleating it only to find that there is naff all to do after except free roaming, which is kindda boring! SHAME , it really spoils a truly excellent gameing experience

Supposedly there is map that comes with the game,it's a Great game to own, I found the same car I drive:Sabb 900. realism adds! A great thing about this game are the various languages you can pick from. the downfall of this game is that you can't enter any of the places while in free roam mode, Crazy graffics
good music, it would be nice if you had the choice of picking Carter for free roam mode. The subway station should have been accessable, because after playing Vice City you expect more.
VICE CITY has alot more work put into it and still is a much better game.

The game sucks because of the camera view and it's slow. The graphics are nice, but that's it. It's the worst game i've played. they got me for my 40.00 bucks. I thought it would be really good because I'm not a big gta fan, but I was wrong. I dont like the story lines after the first time.

I just got The Getaway like a day ago, but already I can tell it is a great game. I'm only on mission 5 I think and the missions get harder subtly...there is no giant difficulty curve, where you go...Sh*t this is hard. The graphics of the game are good, especially compared to the cartoontisic graphics of Grand Theft Auto. This game is very real, down to the cars and streets. If I lived in london, this game would be even better. I mean how cool would it be to drive in your neighbor hood in a game? The profanity...is a bit high, i don't care if they swear, but every other word is f***. Although, some of the british terms, that us americans don't get are pretty funny. All in all this game is great, well worth sohos time and money. One flaw I see, is just how mark controls, a bit sluggish, but still a great game

this game is a great! unlike some people i DO think this game is or can be on the grand theft auto level. this game is more realistic than GTA for instance there are no display or map some people think this is stupid but i think it just ads to the fun and the realisim like when you never are to sure when you sqeeze the trigger you will just hear a CLICK but you should have some kind of idea. and the navagation is going to take some time to get used to but it works a lot than you probily think.and it is real original. another thing that is great is that there are real cars like Nissans and Louts witch are much better that made up cars. in this game unlike GTA VC your protected by the police for instance if you are being chased by gangsters at a high speed then cops will try to kill the gang members insted of only going after you like there are NO gangsters. another great thing that is so realistic is that when you are having a shoot out with gangdters OR the cops you can crouh behind you car and take air not at the enemy but at you enemy's car (the gas tank) and blow them away, that is prety damn cool. and like in GTA you can pop tires on cars that is kinda cool but it can be anoying when that is all the cops do. and when you are under some heavy fire you can grab a ped. and make them your own presonal human body sheild!
the heart of the story line is nothing special, a gang boss and his thugs frame you for killing your wife and kidnapping your son, but that is just the begining, after a few missions the story line gets MUCH more original. the story sometimes gets very complex, at some points and in some parts it will through out some prety good humor. but the storyline i dont think is as good as GTA.
about the sound, the voices i think are pro. actors because they are great but it took a few min to get used to the accents.
the gun sound FX are better that any game i have ever played. one of the best sounding guns is the AK-47 it is better that some movies i have seen! the soundg if the cars are prety good bot something to be improved but donig burnouts sound fu***** cool.
this game is also great in the fact that it takes a LONG time to get board of because it is still so much fun after you haver beat the game, because there is a great free roam mode that allows you to do this. this game (where i got it) was 45$ certinaly NOT a waste of it at all. i strongly reccomend this game!
(as you plobily noticed i refered to GTA Vice City Alot in this review i think they are both GREAT games about equil in quality but, if there was a GTA5 and or Getaway 2 they could both learn a lot from each other)

I did not like this game at all. The graphics are not that great. THere is not on screen display so you can not tell what your health is. The cars suck big ones. Is you get shot and need to get more health just go over to a wall and lean on it and all the blood will fade away. If you shot the cops that are following you the rest of the cops will leave you alone. All the cars look the same. They go as slow as hell. Then only good thing I liked about the game was that the streets had alots of traffic.

Hands down, one of the best graffics I've ever seen at least in any game I've played. The realism is quite cool. The lack of a health meter and GPS or map or ammo count took some getting used to, but since playing it days on end, make it unique and more realistic. I really like this game and really like Vice City, they are both great fun playing. The Getaway is definitly more of a skill game. The only thing I truly hate about The Getaway is being FORCED to watch the script, I don't mind the first time, but if your having trouble with the level, the movie gets very old, I don't understand why you can't skip passed it. I agree with most of the other people in this forum that we have just scratched the surface of this type of game, and I'm excited to see what The Geatway 2 and the next GTO has to offer. On a personal note, since The Getaway is basically an "R" rated game anyway, I'd rather see some nudity and less swearing, but that's just me.

This was the first PS2 I bought and loved it. As many people have said, its realism is terrific. So much so that I had to contain myself while driving through London the other day. I know London well anyway so I never wanted a map on the game, and infact I found some back roads which I have used in real life (bonus). I found the game easy to pick up and control and the levels varying in difficulty but possible (which avoids frustration). Only downfalls are the long sequences between different levels, and call me prudish, but does it really need to swear every other word??? Is a great game though
