Overall, a good game worth playing. | | A gamer from UK says (28/Jul/2007): | After just finishing this game, i think you outa give it a go, it's even worth the 60 or so hours i spent on it.
Being original in the sense that you can invent items, and make your weapens amazing, it is also quite negative, as it makes the game too easy. When you invent these items, you'll feel as if your just cheating through it. Of course your not, but if you do play this game, I'll recommend not relying on inventing.
The charactors, i thought, were also orignal and well thought out. Each unique in their talents in battle, you'll get to choose which to use in your party.
The storyline, i thought, wasn't as great as I would have liked. The beginning you'll find will drag on. A lot. In fact, most of the beginning seems irrelevent.
Having a choice of easy, medium and hard (and they're might even be a harder), it makes the game a little more exciting to replay.
It has multiplayer, but it hardly seems worth playing. (its basic player vs. player)
Apart from the negatives, this game has good graphics, it's got a long lifespan, with loads of sidequests, even after finishing the game. Loads of combos and plenty of cool moves, the battle system is the best part. Your given freedom on the battlefield, and lots of monsters to go up against.
After this game gets going, you'll struggle to keep your hands off the controller.

When i had no other games to play, i started playing this, after i got to the first planet, i realized it was a lot better than i thought before. I disagree when people say its better than the Final Fantasy Series, Because no game will ever be better than FFVII.
I love The story of this game, but the voices are slightly annoying after awhile so i turned on subtitles. It makes the game go by a LOT Faster. Moo

The graphics were OK every once and awhile and the game play is awesome. The characters are unique and the puzzles were challenging. I'd say this RPG would compare in some of the ranks of the Final Fantasy series but I wouldn't say its as good as FFVII or even FFX.
Now when I saw the commercials on this game i thought the graphics were kinda sketchy...and some of it was. I mean come on, some of the seqences had some PS1 graphics with the 2D mouth and that disappointed me. When my buddies came over and saw this they started crackin' up. I also didn't think there were enough locations to walk around on (I expected to go to a whole bunch of planets but there were only a few - but don't get me wrong the planets were tight and had some cool characters).
The game play in the battles had its highs and lows. There weren't enough combos - at least thats what I think - but the moves were awesome! I'm also glad this wasn't a button mashin' game, cuz this one does take some skill. The enemies are also tight and I see a lil resemblance from FF series.
Now the inventing was a new thing and I think it puts a good mix with the game play (you'lll kno what I mean when u play it!) I still have some sidequests to do, so i say this game is long and i love every second about it!
But when I played to the very end, it seemed to me that the storyline was kinda resembled to FFVII - you'll kno what I mean when u play both the games. I do have my contradictions but if u look close enough it seems just a little alike.
Even though I had alot of downs on this game I loved it. It was tight cuz i hadnt played any of the Star Ocean games and this has started me with a new RPG series. I say to all that read this review, that u should buy this game, - not rent or borrow fomr a friends house for months or somethin - I say you should say some money to buy it! HALO 2 DOESN'T COME OUT TILL LATER SO U COULD SPEND A LIL MONEY TILL IT GETS HERE!
