| Could have been better | | John from Sacramento, California United States says (28/Jun/2003): | After playing through Dynasty Warriors 4 a few times, I was left very disappointed. I was really into the 3rd part because it offered a lot of new things that were really needed in part 2 but this 4th installment to the series is very much like the 3rd part with very few differences.
Sure there are new characters to the game now but they're really just old characters from part 3 that were re-done to be in the main characters line-up. The story is basically the same as it was in part 2 and 3 with the same characters and very few new moves. I'm getting pretty tired of the same characters returning to fight wars again and again. Koei need to create a whole new cast of characters with only a few of the old characters returning. Let's not forget about a whole new set of moves too. A new story should also be created. Please, no more remixes of the same story. People out there are shelling out over $50 to buy these games and it's lame to see the same thing again with only a few tweaks here and there.
The next thing that annoys the hell out of me is the option of switching the language from english to japanese with english subtitles on being taken away in this 4th installment. The awesome Japanese voices were translated and acted out horribly. Many of the voices don't even go with the characters (such as Guan Yu and Yuan Shao's American voices). I don't know why Koei decided to take away the option of switching the languages in the first place.
Another thing that really bugs me is that many of the characters who needed to be improved in certain areas such as skill, speed, or power where toned down to the point where it's so much of a hassle to use them that you're better off playing without them. In fact, it would have been better off to not even put them in the game and use the memory for other things. Cao Cao is a perfect example of such characters because he kicked ass in the 3rd part once he got his 4th weapon... in fact he was arguebly the best character in Musou mode with his 4th weapon equipped. In this 4th part however, he sucked like hell. His moves leave him wide open for attacks and his last charge up attack is toned down to where it comes out too damn slow to combo. He doesn't do that much damage either. Zhen Ji is another unlucky one to get toned down. I didn't think she was even among the most powerful warriors from part 3 so why mess up her skills by giving her slow speed and slow and weak moves?
The new seige weapons are not even controllable and most of the orbs are pretty useless. The ice orb was the only one I found to be useful... in fact it's the best orb in the game. Most of the special items that you can equip remained the same as they were in part 3 and your team mates and army are still pretty stupid (they just stand there most of the time and get their butts kicked by the enemy generals). The only time I found my army to be kicking ass is when there is only the main enemy general left in the stage, and then they surround him and beat his ass down.
The endings totally suck in this game as well. I liked the endings in part 3 better. The music was only okay... again part 3 had better music in most cases. Diao Chan's ending didn't make any sense to me according to her story. Why is she so happy and still siding with Dhong Zhuo in the end when it was her goal to overthrow him and Lu Bu because they've endangered her father? In other words, her ending is exactly the same as Dhong Zhuo's.
I could go on with all the negative things about this game but I've said enough. Overall, Dynasty Warriors 4 was only average at best and very repetitive. Please Koei, don't go the way that Capcom took with Street Fighter 2 and all the other "prequels and remixes" of that game.
| fun game, more powers, more control of army and generals | | Alex from Los Angeles, California says (12/May/2003): | The graphics are great, and the realism of the characters is getting better. I personally feel that you need more control of your armies. Like in one of KOEI's older games Kessen/KessenII(which I loved). I liked how you can shift from general to general to try and change the tide of war in Kessen. I tend to find myself fighting the war for the rest of the army in DW4. Granted, I'm trying to make my general more powerful, but it tends to get a little tedious towards the end of the story game.
I love the war sounds. The screaming and yelling of battle is amazing, and life like. It really sounds like an epic battle is afoot. I would love to hear more blood curdling screams. I understand that this game is made for certain ages, but it could be interesting.
I would love to understand who the good guy and bad guy is. Not that it makes a huge difference, but I would love to know what spectrum I'm on. World domination, or peace for all. I feel that all of the generals are just greedy in their own way.
There should be different regiments aswell. The only difference between my army and theirs' is the color of their uniforms in most cases. I would love to see cavalry, infantry, special forces, anything to diversify the game units.
Also, I think that it's to easy to get to the lead enemy general. All you have to do is get on a horse and head right for him. You should have to battle through their armies.
I also understand that your general has body guards, but if he is a general, or leader of some sort, shouldn't he have a regiment following him?
And, why doesn't the general that you use, like Cao Cao, start on a horse when you use him? He starts on a horse when your another general in his army.
Since this is not based on fact, why can't your general have more magic powers? I would love to see them summon in beasts of sorts to fight on the battlefield. More experience for the general you're using.
I would also love to see your experience levels be more extensive. They should be able to become gods on the battlefield.
I tend to be a little to critial of games, but this game has so much more potential to be great and diverse. I love fighting epic battles and being involved in my armies wins and losses, and love the way that KOEI is thinking. This game is headed to epic proportions and I feel there will be the perfect war game still yet to come from this company. I have hoped that someone would come out with this type of game for action strategists like myself, and this has come one step closer to the game that would be impossible to put down.
| It was Alright (old school gamer) | | osg from usa says (30/Jun/2003): | I only own part 3 of the series and just recently bought part 4 and to tell the truth, they are pretty damn similar to each other. Koei just made the same storyline again, just some of the battlefields are new or different in some way, The got to amp it up and start making a story that shows new areas of exploration like what happened afterwards. The graphics are alright, movies look better but the music wasn't as great as part 3', there weren't many new characters in this one either and the moves are on a little refined from the last part of the series like sima yi's homing lasers.
only a few aspects shine to the last game like the fact that you can make bodyguards units, but koei didn't give the ability to mix up the units with male or female so yo had to pick one or the other. Also what was great was that you could make your own officer and put him/her into play but something i've notice recently was that the officers you make have the same face making them always look similar to each other gotta fix that next time. I've seen that you could assign other generals as your bodyguards in extreme legends 3 which sadly they didn't put into 4. all the ideas before 4 also should be put into one game to make it better than the others.
Other things to improve is the ai, armies don't do crap, Koei an omega force gotta try puttin smarter ai's, specifically ones that like make battling more realistic and unpredictable. In part 4 the stories are all the same, they took out the differnt stories going on like how Zhang Liao betrays Lu Bu but as you playing as him cause you either stick with Lu Bu or you start in the Yellow turban rebllion like every other character. that make no sense cause in 3 every person started in different stages cause they were in the war at different time but in 4 they all start on the same stage. endings also need working on cause I think they make no sense, I was watching a ending where everyones talking and having fun with each other even though a moment ago they where tring to kill each other, part 3's endings made more sense. Overall, it was alright, it could've been better, sense i only play ed two partsof the series Im not bored of the storyline much but please next time make it more original. My own opinion if you like 3 a lot, so much that you would steal it from someone you know then you should try 4 and see how much you like it for yourself.
| A step up from three | | Shadowsleet from Paisley, Scotland says (25/Jul/2003): | I was expecting really big things from DY4, given that the third game in the series impressed me a great deal. Overall, I'd say the fourth game delivers. There's a vast improvement in almost every aspect of gameplay.
The graphics have taken a little step up, while the voice acting has improved dramatically (still a couple of turkeys here and there, but it's an improvement over the previous voice actors). The increased number of characters, story modes, and different costumes gives the game a great deal of replay value, as you'll take a long long time to unlock everything there is to get.
Although the AI is still a little ponderous...barely a level goes by where the enemy doesn't have some kind of ambush, trap, or other devious plot to through in your way...so they keep you on your toes well enough. The addition of seige engines adds another dimension, as you're forced to protect them or destroy them in order to advance your troops, or end having to take a harder route to your objective.
The only couple of gripes I have are the duel mode...I liked it at first, but by the end of things it's just not worthwhile. The time limit is far too tight to have any decent type of battle, and you're forced to simply try and rush your way to a win. Without the time limit, it would be much better...that, and since your opponent's power in increased to match your own, they really shouldn't be allowed to regenerate so quickly, making the time limit even worse.
The second gripe is the create mode...given that they were able to make six different outfits for each character, you'd think they'd have a few more 'parts' to create your person from...I've always loved create modes in any game, but this was just a trifle limited, both in character appearance, and in the weapons you could select (only a sword, spear, pike and a greatsword for a male, and rapier for a female). Overall though, it was a very nice touch, and if it's expanded to include a few more body parts in the next instalment, it would be awsome.
These are a couple of very minor blotches in what is, however, a few enjoyable game...I haven't slept for more than a few hours in three days because it's THAT hard to put down. And it looks like I'm in for a long haul yet...if you haven't bought it yet, do. It's well worth the price, and will keep your busy for a very long time.
| Wat i think bout DW4 | | K.aO from Brisbane QLD Australia says (14/Dec/2003): | Da name K.O i like DW4 but god no reward for doing lots of combo how gay is dat i mean like in DW2 when u do a combo more than 8 hits u get an item for sure wat happen in DW4???
DW4 is good for having 42 general dat u can pick but wat the use of it most of the general is so crap no use picking them esp when they so weak too n wat the point of raising ur att n defence for the character it just a waste of time it not like u going to use da same character for every story.
The good things bout DW4 is dat the general dat u VS don't keep on charging they life point like DW2 i just love it make it more easy to kill.
No comment for da sound n graphics doesn't really matter to me. just the gameplay n fun factor dat count. It would be better if dat was more mode to it instead of just da musou mode i mean there should be more things dat u can do in da game play as for ex. rescue ally, making trap for da enemy blowin up the enemy into piece cuttin them in half how mad would dat be going from behide the enemy (a little of Tenchu stlye) easy kill wat happen to the blood, i sure in da chinese dynasty people get they head chop off n body part
Lu Bu if i was right he suppose to be da greatest no other general can beat him, just a story i heard from da adult dat he got gang up from all of the popular general just to be defeat Da great Lu Bu wat a history oh yeah when u see him just run like hell run for ur life of u get slice a couple of time n ur dead if from da back 2-3 hits n ur history is ova lolz. If u want to fight him well here wat i suggested block his attack until u see him shine like he was going to use his specail than u jump n hit the Triangle button dat should send him flying up in mid air, free shot for u i suggest only 2 free shot just repeat it so easy to kill him work for all general. if i mention any more stuff dan it will be too easy.
oh yeah people complain we want better gameplay n fun factor in DW5 a little more action n if possible a lilo of Tenchu Stlye how fun would it be killing with one hit cuttin soldier in half blood more blood more blood more blood more blood more blood
| Rent this game first! | | Misee from Sacramento, CA United States says (17/Jul/2003): | After being blown away by Dynasty Warriors 3's major improvement over part 2, I was left very disappointed with this 4th installment to the series. (I'm a girl but I play games with my boyfriend) Sure there are new things to it and all but it's all very similar to part 3. I was expecting a whole new lineup of characters with only a few returning veterans from the older games and a whole new storyline... but instead, Koei gives us another version of how part 3 should have been. The new characters are really just old warriors from part 3 that's been given a new look and added to the main characters lineup. What a bummer! Only one or two new moves? What the hell? No more option available to switch the horrible American voice acting to the better quality Japanese voices with subtitles like in part 3. Well, at least the American voices are a lot better than they were in part 3 (which was a total flop due to horrible acting), but they're still not done very well. If people are paying about $50 for a game, they expect good quality and fun right? Another thing is that many of the old characters are toned down to the point where they just suck. Cao Cao, Zhen Ji, and Guan Yu are perfect examples of this. I don't know why Koei decided to make these characters attack and move slower than they did in part 3. Zhen Ji wasn't even all that good of a warrior in the 3rd part so why mess with her abilities by weakening her? If anything, Lu Bu should have been toned down just a little because he's still super cheap in this game (I hate it when my boyfriend uses him in the versus mode). In fact, it seems like he's even more powerful this time around. I understand that he's suppose to be the mightiest warrior out there but come on... give Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi a chance! These two guys still suck like hell too! It kind of feels like Dynasty Warriors is heading down the same road that Street Fighter 2 did when Capcom made so many damn remixes of that game. Unless if you're new to the series or you're a die hard fan, rent this game first and decide from there.
| The game is a winner that must be mastered | | Michael Diaz from JerseyCity N.J. USA says (4/Jun/2003): | All in all dynasty warriors series have always been a smash. This latest installment as taken the cake dough. There's alot to do in this game. The fact that you can choose what battles you wanna fight and which you dont is pretty cool. And the sequences of your actions in battles(either you fight them or not) will open up new levels and even what characters are avialable. The games weapon system is nice. You level up and watch as you become the king of the battle ground. Leveling up weapons is a privelegde to the avid player.( Gives a sense of Yeah Im the man!) Orbs now are aquireable to any character you choose.( No more picking Luxun for his vorparol attack. Now anybody can have that deadly art. Just equip it and walah)! As to graphics the game holds up nicely.( I do miss the glowing hands but its ok now i have a Steaming body). One player mode is even better because your allies will double up the offensive whenever you activate your musuo attack. Comes in very handy when your surrounded by relentless enemies. Just looking at your self and the computer working together is like a dream. Horses are much faster in this game. And if you have a saddle equipped then you wont lose your horse. Just pause and look at the map to see where you left him. The only thing I can complain about is the finding of orbs and the glitches. I mean the orbs are random. Your lucky if you find all of them on a level of 4 or up. And the game can glitch in a two player mode. Where the second player might not see the enemies or the life bars if both players have all their bodyguards and high stats when close to one another.(Yeah its a bumber but nothing is perfect). But on the upside it does look cool at times. This game is the kind that you must break in. Especially if your used to DW3. It has a different feel but hey dont most newer versions of games do. Just give it time and it will stick to you. Its very addictive and has much much more to offer than other dynasty warrior games. Must buy for fans of the series.
| Improved? I don't think so. | | Odin from PR says (28/Nov/2003): | When I bought DW3 I thought It was the coolest game ever. Then when I bought DW4 I was very exited. But when I started my first mushou I discovered something horrible! It was in enlish!!I mean, in DW3 you had the option to hear it in either language, but here you have to suck it up and deal with those ugly-a** voice overs. For example, Diao Chan's voice in DW3 was so bueatufyl-like a bird song-but in DW4 she talks like a 50 year old woman.
And it doesn't stop there, every character in DW4 have ridiculusly ugly voices (exceptions--Zhen Ji, Zhuge Liang, and Yue Ying)I play only once in a while now (where when I had DW3, I played it non stop)It's a very big issue, look at Sun Ce--he's now a surfer dude when in DW3 he had such a great voice. Also, they made every character darker in skin tone, Zhou Yu is not recognisable! Zhang He looks not too far from a woman this time. And Pang Tong is as annoying as you can get, (I always let him die in the mushou so I don't have to hear him say "Good for You"
I really think that KOEI needs to give us back their Japanese voices, or at least, make the english voices a lot better. I feel very dissapointed at that. But whait, there's more, they said EVERY character returns to DW4--WRONG!! Fu Xi and Nu Wa were deliberately take OFF from DW4. I am aware you can create them in CAW but it doesn't replace the originals. It's a very direct way of saying "we don't care if they are even there" Plus, why should I have to create them and ocupy two CAW slot--wich there are only three--to make them.
Other than that, there are only a fiew movies from each Dynasty, and that's not to mention the Other's side. ONLY one movie for each--talk about saving money in production--In DW3 XL, the Others side had a lot more.
All in all, what they improved in technicallity and good visuals, they completly neglected in movies, Fu Xi and Nu Wa, and most importantly--their Unbelievably Horrible Voice Overs.
| Very disappointing! | | Jennifer from Irvine, CA U.S. says (23/Aug/2003): | I was pleased when I heard that a fourth chapter to the Dynasty Warriors series was coming out but now that I've finally gotten my hands on it, I was left very disappointed. I understand that there are books about the story of the 3 KINGDOMS of CHINA, but come on! With part 2,3, and now 4 being very similar in gameplay, characters, and story line, I think the series need a new story written with new characters and only a few of the veterans returning. So what if there are books and this game is based upon those books. Running through the same story over and over again with each new version claiming to be the next chapter is boring and very stupid. Video game companies always tend to make their own story up after a series starts to get old, so why won't KOEI do that for Dynasty Warriors 5 if that ever comes out! It would have probably been better to just call part 3 and 4 "Dynasty Warriors 2: The Remix" or something like that because these two other parts are really just how part 2 should have been.
Besides the story and lack of new characters and moves, Lu Bu is still a monster of a man with long reach, great power, defense, and speed. The only thing that seems to suck about him is his musou attack which was always kind of hard to clear crowds with. I understand that he was considered the most powerful warrior ever during this time in China but come one Koei! Characters like Zhuge Liang, Sima Yi, and other people with very short reach, poor speed and power should be given a chance of some sort. For example, in the street fighter games, M. BISON and AKUMA are suppose to be powerful characters but even fighters like Zangief can stand a chance against them.
I was blown away with Dynasty Warriors 3 but, like I said before, without a new story and a whole new cast of characters along with more new moves instead of just 1 or 2, Dynasty Warriors 4 just didn't amaze me.
| Great but not too great | | A gamer from Essex, England says (2/Dec/2003): | First of all I have to say that DW4 may be one of the finest games ever made. I feel in love with DW3 when I first played it and as you can imagine, I loved 4 too, however it does have it's downsides as well as improvements.
Improvements:
1. The duels are amazing, a great idea and big improvement over DW3.
2. Stage progression, more realistic and more fun
3. Orbs - I like this idea of being able to, in part, customise your own weapon.
4. Video. The scenes and short movies in this game are fun and at the same time relevant - another great improvement.
Things I miss:
1. The weapons!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the feeling of anticipation when I picked up a weapon crate in DW3. It might give me a large attack bonus as well as a speed boost. Or maybe it will increase my range and mounted attack. But in DW4 what do you have to look forward to............raising a weapon level. Thats it, no more great finds, or comparing the stats of two weapons as weapons no longer have stats. This is my single largest dissapointment wit DW4
2. Character creation - a waste of time and space on the disc. why not just leave fu xi and nu wa
3. English dubbing - DW3 felt so real as it is based on a real portion of chinese history with characters that looked, felt and SOUNDED chinese. I mean zhou yu - my favourite character now sounds like a fairy and sun ce like a surfer.
4. Bodyguard items - I'm picking now but I kinda liked this feature on DW3, it gave bodyguards another element of individuality.
So as you can see while DW4 has some clear advantages over it's former DW3, it also needs some tweaking. It's a shame KOEI don't combine the good from both games and create the ultimate DW experience......but then DW5 is on the way!
P.s. Do not face lu bu on hardest until your character is fully trainned up - he really is a legend.
DW fan
| A Step Up From The Ashes | | Halyse from Pennsylvania says (7/Jul/2003): | A good tip for those who are planning to rent this game: buy it. You will just rent it and rent it and rent it until you unlock EVERYTHING, and before you know it, you could have used the money you had RENTING it to buy the game for you, and a few of your close friends.
First of all, the costumes, believe it or not, are fun to unlock. While you're unlocking those, you can get your weapons and update your body guards. You can kill like, seven birds with one stone. There are also a lot of generals at hand. My current goal is getting all of their experience points.
Then there's the fourth weapon. I don't have any of them yet because I'm just working on getting their experience points up.
The maps are spectacular. I get all excited when the message board says, "A rare item has been discovered" but then I curse because I can't find the stupid thing!
Then there's Lu Bu. If you're character has not been racking up those experience points by The Battle of Hu Lao gate. . .RUN. I scream like there's no tomorrow running from that guy. He is so much stronger and so much cooler in this game.
The other characters are great too. My favorites are currently Zhang He and Sun Ce. Each character is different from the next, and the fact that there are so many to unlock is awesome.
It's all a matter of trial and error. If you screw up, oh well! You can always switch off the system, but I absolutely love having to go through all of the levels again.
This game will keep you busy for hours if you are a Dynasty Warriors loyalist. If you are new to the series, you'll probably like it more. This is my third Dynasty Warriors game, and I do not regret buying this one. Just get a lot of coffee, a lot of friends (if you have them hah hah just kidding!) and a comfy spot. You will probably be surprised at how much this game has to offer.

| Not all the Hype that people said it was. | | Tanya Chang from Orange County, CA U.S. says (14/Aug/2003): | A couple of my guy friends own this game and they had told me that it was "all that!" Since the game still cost a lot even though it's been out for a while now, I took their word for it and bought the game without renting it first. Boy was I disappointed! I don't know what all the gamers who gave this game a 9 or 10 were playing but I sure wasn't playing a perfect game. Why can't I change the language like in part 3? The American voices are done so horribly. A lot of the characters have little or no emotions in their voices. What's up with only 3 new characters too? The story was pretty similar to part 3 (part 3 blew me away because it was so much better than part 2), which was a drag. Part 2,3, and now 4 have the same story line basically. I was expecting a new story and a huge new line-up of characters who existed several years later after the wars from part 3. I hate the weapon experience system too. Your troops, officers included, are still dumb as hell and can't really fight for themselves. I really DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IS LU BU STILL SO POWERFUL. He's even more powerful in this chapter. Characters like Zhuge Liang and Zhen Ji have a hard time fighting him. Also, why did they make Cao Cao, Guan Yu, and Ga Ning weaker? These guys were able to stand up to Lu Bu in part 3 but now... especially Cao Cao is too weak and he's not fast either. With the game still being around a hefty $50 for a game that's been out for a while now, I suggest that old fans rent this game first. If you're completely new to the series, you'll probably like it.
| Dynasty Warriors 4 is a disappointment... | | Sephiroth from Rochester, MN says (17/Apr/2003): | Dynasty Warriors 4 is a big disappointment. First of all, it has very little improvements over DW3... Just 3 new characters and a few more levels don't add anything to the game. The new weapons system is lame too. You can't choose which weapon u want to use as in DW3 anymore. Weak. Sure, there are a few new moves and features... but thats about it... there is nothing revolutionary. Also, the biggest flaw is the AI and lack of stragety involved. Your allie AI is pretty decent but they still stand around too much. And the enemy AI, oh lord they are so stupid. They are fixed in certain locations throughout the battlefields and won't attack you unless u get in within 10 feet, how lame. The enemy AI no longer rush and attack together like in DW3 anymore. All you do throughout the whole game is attack one group of enemy while the others stand around and watch... when you beat them, you go on to the next group... pathetic. The enemy AI needs to be smarter, they need to attack together and reinforce each other like in DW3. The other thing is that Koei need to enable u to be able to command troups dependin on your rank... come on, u are a general for cryin out loud. You need to be able to command troops to follow u so you don't have to go alone and kill everyone by yourself. Its not a one-man army, your allie troops are there for a reason. Overall, DW4 is a big disappointment... theres really nothin drastically new... its the same old thing... Koei did not put any effort to revolutionize the game.
| it's awright | | Harrod from DELTONA, FLA says (23/Apr/2003): | Last year DW3 was the most addictive game I ever played. This game is very similiar so therefor I won't waste my precious time playing it for hours. It's is almost predictable for owners of any previous dw's. The game has many new and cool improvements. I thought the create your own warrior really SUCKED-I tried to make a Konan character but could only settle for a cheapie bodyguard looking guy. The bodyguards have longer life spans which are a major plus since in the past they died so easy. Also this time you can choose between 4 groups of body guards. The stages are the same but now you can choose the one's you want within each territory. The moves and characters have always made this game a hit. Some characters are better than they were others are worse. The choose character sucks cus u can only see the characters face and not what they look like. Many of my friends love playing this game with me but we all agree that the 2 player mood makes each character look as if they are far away on the screen and it's hard to judge or see your warrior. Either way this game is just like the other-EITHER TOTAL DOMINATION OR BUTT WHIPPIN depending on who you choose for a warrior-very few stages go back and forth with the fighting-it is usually all one way. Koei needs to shorten the number of soldiers, make the enemy more challenging having more attack moves, and add more battlefield strategy to make this game a 10. still one of the best games every played in my life and I am almost 30!
| DW4 was good, but could be better | | John from Arlington Va USA says (20/Sep/2003): | I bought DW3 after I saw it being played and was instantly addicted to the game. I got DW4 the day it came out and was only a little dissapointed with the game. I understand that changing the storyline from the original in the book would be hard, so I won't bitch about that, but there should be more of the sub-generals added into the face-general group. There are such generals as Cheng Pu,Han Dang,Liao Hua,Zhou Cang,Cao Hong, and Sima Zhao who are in many battles but remain the same. It also might help to have a blood option or a Kessen style control option added to the game. I can't argue with the graphics, but I agree with some other reviews about the possibility of having regiment of one or several types of fighter(maybe formed by you)and the different coloration of the troops of individual generals troops. DW4 had little originality, but that was partly because it could have had more battles without messing with the storyline of the ROTK. THe format of the game might also be changed to have missions within battles or have the map of China connected, allowing you to go around to different battles after getting orders and getiing attacked by bandits along the way or something. That would liven up the storyline and solve the battle problem at the same time. Maybe the possibility of being able to gain something in a battle that would allow you to learn new moves after the battle would help the game appeal to more people.
DW-most dedicated fan, John
| Koei has made a outstanding game! | | Akira Yasutoko from Denver says (1/May/2003): | To start, I acually loved the game, I first got addicted to the series with I first played DW2 on a demo then I bought the acual game, then I bought DW3 right when it came out, and of coarse I bought DW4 also when it first came out. Now why I put a 9 was because of the edit mode...if they make a DW5, they should make the edit mode more advanced, more weapons to choose from, more clothes and looks to choose from, and just plain ole more detailed, but otherwise it was a new feature in the series, it just needs alittle work on it. And what I hated the most was the continueous slow motions and the life, map, K.O.'s dissappearing in two player mode, and the levels were to easy to pass, what ive done before was just get on a horse and go right to the main boss in 1:00 flat and beat him, also there needs to be more extensive amounts of enemy soldiers for a more realistic aproach. Now to the best parts about the game, they added 3 new characters to the game, they could of added more, anyways out of the 3, I ecspecially liked Zhao Tai, with his eastern style weapon. I aslo really like the new weapon experience system. And I was thinkin if it would be cool in verses mode that they would make a feature where you are on a normal map with both your own armies and pick what generals you want, the "Influence" feature just doesnt cut it. So thats my reveiw and thats why I gave it a 9 and overall its one of the best games ever made and I hope Koei does these improvements if they make a DW5.

| | David Rogers from Lancaster,California,USA says (5/Jul/2003): | I've been a big fan of dynasty worriors since number two came out. I still love the basic prenciple of still beating the living daylights out of your opponent and to make matters better, they have the nerve to challenge you to a one on one duel without having to worry about thier backstabbers. Theres a couple of new combos and the different outfits is a nice touch so you dont get to board with your characters.Plus you get to play as Lu Bu in Mesou Mode, What more can you possibly ask for. Some new characters are fun to get because you don't have to use people you hate to use to get them. The weapon leveling up system is better because you truly have reason to kill as many generals as you can other than to just get your stats up. My personal favorite part of the game is taunt, the fact that your character can stun a whole army by the sound of his voice, makes you feel as if your character owns the battle field. Not to mention some taunts are very amusing such as Sun Ce's "Let's get it on".Also some player have charge move that runs thier weapon through opponents body and then and ther sends ther to the dirt. The characters somtimes aknowledge each other if they have history together. Some player have improved Dramatically such as Jang Wei, unfortunaly some characters have been toned down a bit such as Lu Xun.To Put it Simply If you liked Dynasty Worriors 3, your more than likely love 4.
| Han Dynasty reborn? | | Mysterious J Man from Pittsburgh (PA), USA says (4/Nov/2003): | This game is quite possibly the best combination of an action, strategy and RPG game that has ever existed. The graphics are sweet for such large and numerous levels. The fact that there are over 40 officers keeps this game exciting forever since it would take a LONG time to truly beat the game. Duels add a whole new intensity to conflicts between individual characters and add much more depth to each level than simply going around and killing everyone. The storyline is particularly interesting as it expands from historical fact to numerous "what if"s regarding the fall of the Han dynasty. Not only is there eight completely different campaigns, but also variable endings to most of them. This game is truly addictive and the continuous hunt for hidden and better items is endless. Don't be fooled by the seemingly limited number of characters in the beginning, you will unlock dozens of them within a few hours as well as have to search for hidden ones. There is so much stuff to this game that it is impossible to get everything even by spending hours searching the net. I have only leveled up about half of the characters and I have easily put well over 100 hours into this game. I still have 4 more hidden items to find too! If you buy this game, make sure you aren't going to be busy for the next couple days; you simply can't stop playing this game, especially when you first buy it.
