Dynasty Warriors 4 Best of them all!!! | | craig menne from Imperial, MO says (11/Apr/2003): | I thought the game was great. The characters looked great, the levels where beutiful, I thought the soundtrack was good, overall the game was much better then the rest in the seris. I thought the computer and bodyguard AI was better then in 3 but there was still times when i was standing right behind an enemy and they didn't even attack me. The slow downs do get irritating during fights and the phasing units can make killing a general difficult. While the kingdom mode is interesting I think it detracts from the character story line, so if you choose a different general you only get pieces of a story instead of the whole story. The edit mode was a nice add on but it seemed to lacking but I put this off as their first attempt and hope the next version will have more options avaliable to edit.(i.e skin color, hair, face, armor, weapon(sword, staff, club), fighting style,) Although I have talked alot of what i didn't like about the game I think all these points are minor details that could easily be fixed in the next edition. The only major issue I have is the slowdowns because thats been a problem in all them and they just don't seem to want fix it. Even with the problems above I still think the game is alot of fun and is worth the price. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the seris or to anyone who has never played it before.

It is almost exactly alike when compared to D3, which isn't all bad but its not that great either. The worst part was all the map/health dissapperences in 2 player co-op mode. The slowdown can be frustrating but it doesn't effect gameplay much. The series also needs some fresh new options and a much more detailed create a player. While the notion of making your own charactor and kicking but with its is novel, it needs much more variety to be really worth it. While the addition of three new charactors is good there needs to be more. As well as some sort of online/two player game in which the players con be on different armies. On the pro side there are new levels and some are revamped as well as the orbs which are an excellent addition to the items as well as the superb weapon leveling system. The additional musous are good as well but they lack as much detail as the shu,wu,and wei mosous, kinda of like an afterthought. All in all the game is a good buy if you have never played Dynasty warriors before but if you have D3 and liked it I suggest you wait for a price drop because you are essently gettign the same game. Except you die hard fans (me included) who don't mind spending out the fifty as soon as possible. So in the end Gan ning will be victorious.

but there are some things that throw it off.The graphics!The DW3
graphics had musou light that actually looked like real light and
the fire was also more easy to see and also the lightning.Also the double musou doesn't do slow motion anymore.I like slow motion!But the new characters are tight!I also like the duels because you can fight an enemy general or officer without interruption from other troops.The new moves are also pretty good.I love the music even though the DW3 had some that were better.And the sounds sound realistic like you are really hurting someone.I like the plot of it being in China and in the Han Dynasty too.The fighting is very good from normal hits to charge combos and also musou attacks.The versus is cool especially the encounter where you fight a friend in the dark.The orbs are the best.Now you don't have to get stuck with one elemental type, but plenty others.The saddles are cool.They help you travel faster on horses and the elephants for rampaging.
You can also look like a real Lu Bu when you put him on a red hare and have his level 7 weapon or higher and that looks really cool in the challenge sequence when it shows you as Lu Bu on a red hare with the real weapon.Overall I say this game is really good and Koei has done a very good job with it.

I purchased the game last year for around 39 bucks(a bargin at the time!) It only depreciated to 30 bucks. So I decided to buy the Extreme Legends add on too. You can't rent that at blockbuster and I still haven't unlocked everything!!!

The graphics are very good though compared to the other dynasty warriors. The controls are good as usual. But they should have let me load my dyansty warriors 3 info because now I have to start it all over again. Personaly i think that they should have added extra items to do different new things. I'm still mad about them not letting me load my characters from #3. The story mode/ musou mode has a great plot and they improved it so i find that pretty cool. The makers also added a lot of new ways to beat the game and a ton of better graphics along with more objects in the battles unlike the plain feilds in dynasty warriors #3. I also like the idea that you can modify your own character and that you can modify your body gaurds too, i think that the makers should add on to this new idea and have more modes so that you can modify your character with more options. Other wise this game is a pretty good advancment from #3 and I was surprised when i first played it because i thought that it would have had more things added, plus i am really mad about them not letting me load my dynasty warriors 3 info onto #4. Sorry I'm repeating myself but I believe that if that was changed this game would have been a lot better.

Don't use cheats because thats very bad. The game is too good to cheat on...
Lu Bu, Xu Zhu, and Guan Yu are strong. Don't be generals that you don't think you would like because you might get pissed off and go mad or crazy. The levels or acts may seem difficult, but you know that you and your general can defeat, unless he/she is weak, then ur screwed.

I don't know why i hate them. I just don't like slow guys or guys who have specials of shooting stuff and the girl Yue Ying, i have no idea. I don't know why some people hate this game. Its an awesome game. The girl generals are amazing. In other games, there are just like guy heros or main characters, but in this game, the girls could rule this game, but there are just little girl generals in this game. There are i think 7 girl generals, but they are still amazing.

Deffinetly worth your money. its like a drug it makes u come back for more. to bad its not Playable online. i would rule. kill all challagers crush all competiters.
But i dont have DW4 extreme legends yet. DW4 has much more than DW3, theres more missions, and charrecters, 3 and the only good one is Zhou Tai. Theres more items and now theres more saddles and orbs. the 10th weapons look good too. the graphic is a wow, but the gameplay is so so, not as good as DW3. the songs r better in 3. ther's more things to do in challage mode like brilge melle. best score i got was 130 kills on the brilge.

| Repetative................... | | Chris from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England says (2/Aug/2006): | OK, this is upsetting, here you have a great, great series, I mean the original for the Playstation was unbeatable, then you have Dynasty Warriors 2 for the PS2, again, an absolutly stunning game. Then, Dynasty Warriors 3 which was slighty repetative, but with the inclusion of Bodyguard,Different Weapons, Things like that, and then you stumble upon this, DW4.
It's more or less the exact same, it looks the same, sounds the same, the voices are still terrible, and the action gets extremly repetative, extremly quickly. If you havn't played any of the previous games, then you can buy this, and you will enjoy it. However, if you've played DW 2/3 I suggest you rent this first, before you even consider buying it.
The Graphics are up to there usual quiality: 6/10
The Sound is the same, bland and annoying: 4/10
The Lifespane, as usual, if massive, with all the different characters to use, then the items to collect: 7/10
Gameplay, nothing new, well, nothing both new & exciting: 0/10
Overall: 4/10
Sadly, not the best outing for the DW series, and while were on this note (and I still need to fill up the Minium) I would however suggest DW5, somehow it's just much more enjoyable than DW4, it has that........X-Factor, the one unexplainable thing that makes it loveable.

There is no doubt that all the other Dynasty Warriors episodes were enjoyable, but Dynasty Warriors 4 just tops the list for any game I've ever played, it just puts the icing on the most delicious cake I've ever tasted. Koei really hit the jackpot with this game. My favourite characters are Da Quiao and Zhou Yun. Even the little short trailers are cool. The character costuming is breathtakingly creative and the music really adds that little something extra. I love absolutely everything about this game. It is so awesome i don't think i'll ever get sick of playing it. They should make more games like this!!! this game makes any other game look boring. It's practically impossible to get bored with this game, it's just one of those games where there is always something even better to achieve, whether it be raising every single character on the game, or finding a certain rare item or trying to achieve the 10th level weapon for every character on the game. I would like to personally congradulate Koei on a job well done, and perhaps even suggest they consider making a movie on this game. it would be an excellent film and i know that i certainly will enjoy it. May there be more great dynsty games to come, thanx Koei

When i first played it i thought 'wow' this is totally cool. I have every over Dynasty warriors game but this one makes the rest look really terrible. I think that the 2 player modes are awesome, i love charging through enemy lines with my younger brother. The only thing i don't like about this game is the voices, some of the things that the characters say are pretty silly. The lifespan on this game is huge, as once you've maxed out one character there is still another 40 odd to do, plus you have items and weapons to max out as well. The music during the battles is good and it makes you want to kill somebody. the game does have a very high fun factor as you can take on enemy soldiers and leave them dead on the floor, which i think is great fun. What i like best is the multiplayer, i love having another player to charge the enemy with you and cut some enemies down to size. The game has improved a lot from Dynasty Warriors 3 as you can now jump off your hose while running and there are new saddles to choose including an elephant. Dynasty Warriors 4 is a great game and is worth every penny you spend on it, and i say if you don't have this game you don't know what your missing.

This is not only a game it is a necesity. This game gives you tuns of characters and up to7 storylines and tuns of demoes. As a rock fan it is hard to find a good game with quality music. This game packs a punch. The backround music is awsome it is rock and not just cheesey rock this stuf is awsome. I sugest to all people with a PS2 or Xbox to buy this game.I would give it a 15 but i cant go that high. If you are locking for a game with almost everything in it this is it. I have waited a long time for a game like this and finnaly i got one. Now this game will take countliss hours to get everything maxed out. So dont get it if you fell like only playing it a few hours and dropping it. This is a very active rollplaying game. Also it is Cooprotive so you and a pal can face the other army together. It has vurses mode if you waunt to take out your friend and chaallenge modes if you are welll up to a challenge. It comes with a wepon upgrade mode so you can upgrade your wepons to get better as you go. and an orb system that alows you to use elements to hurt enemys(such as lightning, fire, ice, blast, poison, and vorpal) This game is a must have.

Graphics: 8 This is the only REAL flaw in the game. The graphics could be a little more realistic.
Sound: 9 Very good sound for a war game and the soldiers voices and outcrys motivate u to save them and Destroy the ENEMY.
Gameplay: 10 One of the funnest games me and my bro ever played. We love the fun multiplayer adventer (missou) mode!!!
Lifespan: Probably forever!!!
Fun factor: 10 U will have awsome fun discovering secrets and slaying the enemy.
Value: 26.66 at EB games

Great strategy: Have Arrowers in da back and Swordsman in da front.

Graphics are slightly better, only 3 new officers, and same-old-musics. Although there are more missions (About 17), each battle are super short. It takes about 20-30minutes to beat a mission. Makes only little satisfaction with about 200 to 300 K.Os. But still this is a great game to buy for those who never played DW series. But you know, I was a big fan of this game and this it was a big dissapointment for me. So like I said, this is a LOVE IT OR HATE IT game.
THE GOOD: Over 40 playable players make this game 5% better than DW3. The Duel system make it another 5% better. More deeply explained storyline make it 5% better. Any other improvement: No.
THE BAD: Missions are double sized, characters are super sized, but playing time won`t. Missions are too short, and that makes it frustrating. You can`t feel the same sensation you get after the mission. Edit mode is poorly made,and There are too many bodyguards around.
In order to get the fame back like it did in Dynasty Warriors 2, I expect DW5 need alot of improvement. New story, whole new characters, new stages, and definitly, online vs mode.

It is better than DW3 because it has better graphics and better interactions. If you havent got this game then go get it now. I also like the game because you get different dressings for each and every characters. I also think that when your fighting the other generals are more active. I dislike the game because there should be more levels, hehe. The setting of the games are better than before and unlocking characters can be quite hard at times. Near the ending on Musuo modes they become really hard. Like more than 4 events can happen at a time which is really difficult to go to each one. My favourite character has got to be Da Qiao. She is fast and has very good moves. My favourite level has to be Unficiation of Jing. I still havent completed the game because i cant seem to play as Lu Bu in the Musuo modes. Looks like my game must of crashed.

I think people such as these characters are quite an example of how people should think. Except for Cao Cao. For some reason he irks me, and people I know. And these people have personalities, which is something I don't see often.
Fighting:10
The only hole in it is that you can't run after enemy soldiers into the strongholds, so they always have a place to hide and taunt you.
Graphics:9
The graphics on this game irk me. Soldiers appear from nowhere and, maybe you've noticed, Zhou Yu must be a god among men, or something, because when he gets hit with that arrow, he just pulls it out and there's no blood on it or him. But other
than those two holes, the graphics are okeeday.
Sound:10
The soundtrack for this game is great, and I love the end theme, Cross Colors.

Just when I am about to get bored, lo and behold, some enemy officer challenges me to a duel. Heh. He's just asking for it.And then, there is the fact that there are good cutscenes.

However, the create a player needs A WHOLE LOT MORE improvement. I always loved Fu Xi as my fighting characterbut in DW4, they make Fu Xi look like trash. Create a bodyguard I don't mind. The variety of weapons in the game is pleasing, except when it gets to the level 10's I have to find. Lu Bu in this game is well, harder than the ones before but in hard mode. I walk around and he starts following me and bashes my head off. The new attacks are sweet, except when Lu Bu uses it against me of course. The weapon expirience thing is better than previous games, because in DW3, I spent hours trying to find 3rd weapons. The new items are pretty good. Zhou Tai, the new guy, kick buttzzz. His musou is THE best. Slash, Slash, Slash, Slash, BAM, then the enemy flies through the screen screaming for their momies, except when I use it against Lu Bu, he counters and kicks me 50 feet away from him. Cao Ren isn't bad, but he is fat and slow. Yue Ying isn't also bad, but she is weak. The costume picking is great as well. All I can say is this is the best game in rpg-like playing action game around!

I personally think this game is much addictive than 3. this whole new item lvls and weapon lvls stuff, totally got me addicted. I keep playing in order to get the best items and weapons.Since I am already a fan of the three kingdoms, I really do enjoy killing enemies using my favo chars. And since every char has his own special moves and stuff, I change to play different chars once a while. This game wont get boring..thats for sure. For ppl who dont want to play single-line-story game, DW4 is ur first choice. Also, the graphic in this game is fantastic. All the chars' movements look pretty real and the color contract is well done. And one sweet addition is the custumes and weapons graphics. Chars have 6 custumes to choose from one u max ur chars. and the weapons have 4 stages just like DW3. Also there are alot more and more attractive features that will drive u insane. All I can say thats KOEI is the master of the three kingdoms game-making company, from all different device of arcade.

I think that they could add way more to the carachter creation because whenever i create someone they look exactly the same as the other guy. They could also add more combos. After i tried more people i found that Zhou Tai is better.The game has pretty good graphics and prety good vices and game play,but the music made me want to turn down the volume.I Dynasty Warriors 3 when it first came out and i beat and restarted it about 12 times. It seemed like i was playing the game for the first time every time. This game seems to have the same potential. The only thins i didnt like about the game was the music and the limited carachter creation system. The weapon experience system should go higher that level 9. It should got to like 20 like the items. I love the orbs and items system, but the system on dynadty warriors 3 is more understandable than this one. Over all this game is great and would be a good buy andi cant wait for the next installment to come outk. I will be the first to buy it. Lu Xun and Zhou Tai rule.
