This game freakin rocks | | Big Primal Fan! from West Virginia, USA says (17/Sep/2004): | This game rocked my world, i mean i have beat it countliss times. But the demon forms u get is so awesome, the "wraith" is my favorite, and Aetha is the coolest place. The storyline is terrific. The only thing i dislike is when they dont say the words when they are supposed to. But over all this game real does rock. I like fighting Raime "i think thats how u spell it." But if anyone of u havent played this game then u are missin out, believe me. The only part of the game i do not like is none of it. The hole game rules all. I really hope they make part two of this incredible adventures game. I'd say my second most favorite form is the undine, it's awesome, and the cutscenes are very funny. i really like the one wear jen has to strap herself up to the bloodmachine, so she talkes to scree saying "u expect me to strap myself into something that has one purpose and that is to kill, and to leave that fruitcake at the controls. That was so so so funny, i just couldnt stop laughing, and the graphics of this adventure are excellent. i hope u like my review, it took me long enough to type it.
| One of my favorites!!!! | | ThE EviL CheeSeCaKE from Texas, USA says (15/Feb/2004): | though i'm not through with it yet, i think Primal deserves a great review..i mean i love the story line..or lines...whichever u prefer. Anyway i love it! Jen is such a great character, specially with her "atttude" :D!!! Big props to Hudson Leick on the voice (sorry but i love Callisto!)Scree's pretty great himself, if u don't believe me, play it, and if you've played it..PLAY IT AGAIN!
| Most Excellent Game!!! | | Mechanismo from England says (15/Oct/2003): | This just the coolest game out there!!! the controls are spot on, the voices are from famous actors i.e G'kar from babylon5, Avon from Blakes7, and theres some really funny bits too 'the incident with the ear is my fav' !! ive spent the last 5 days nonstop playin it, I ve found it to be increadably addictive!
i really do hope they make a sequal, the graphics are cool, she looks very sexy in her normal form ;), and hes a gargoyle a funny one at that!! the sound... well its from a rock band called '16 volt' and the main sond is 'And I go' and its been stuckk in my head for the past several days!! the only bad bit is maybe the camera had a mind of its own... i.e when it came to the palace maze! by the time youve finished this game you'll definatly think "Lara Who?" an excellent buy!! cheers!
| Aetha is the best place ever | | Klepto from Sacramento, USA says (7/Oct/2003): | I went to one site that had a forum on Primal, and I couldn't believe what I read! Every single review was horrible; they said that story sucked and the fighting was annoying. Now, I agreed on one thing. The puzzles did get kind of annoying in some places. Like in Solum, it was always "Go over here, get this, now go back, fight this guy, now go here" Plus I got lost really easy. But Aetha was sooo cool; now I'm totally obsessed with gothic French aristocrats. And the fighting was amazing; I was impressed with all the different moves you could do (and plus it just looked really cool) Ok, I'm done now.
| WOW!!!!!! | | sally!!! from england says (12/Sep/2003): | i once got a ps2 magerzine and i got a free dvd with it u no i watched it and it avertised primal, i thought wow this game looks great but i dont just go out and buy any games which ive never heard of before, i saw 2 more previews of it afterwards and then i thought o mite as well get it, so i got and wow wwas it great , the graphics and sound r amazing! the storyline rules, and jen and scree are reely kwel characters (did u no scree meen cement and he made of stone as well) i usally go 4 final fantasy and tomb raider but this has kicked lara croftd but its like fianl fantasy and tombraider put together!!! but its not as had as tombraider, i completed the game in 4 days ,and 4 those 4 days i havent been able to hardly sleep without finkin about it , it was like a drug i couldnt stop playing it, from like 7 am till 5 pm 4 days in a row, it was the best 4 gamin days of my life!!! in my opionion the combat it kwel and the final move she does is very gory, but a games not a game without its game bugs sometimes on cut screens the character will keep repeatin the same word 4 like 5 seconds or all of a sudden scree can walk on water in aquis orall of a sudden all u can see is jen and scree satnding in blue or green?????werid... it hardly never happens though !!!! but it BUT IT!!!!! it rules!
| Primal Rules | | Scree from Belgium says (28/Aug/2003): | 'Not a good combat system', that's what they say about Primal, ok, the battles are not that difficult, but they are impressive to watch and are great to take a break in your puzzle-adventure. After all, it's not a fighting game, but a puzzle game, so, it's good as an extra (very good to me!).
I'm already waiting for a sequel (others??)
| Brilliant | | Stuart from Essex, UK says (27/May/2003): | I saw the advert but didnt think much of it, I purchased the game on the 22nd of April and found myself staring at the screen like the girl on the advert. Whilst at work all I would be thinking was to get home and play the game. I do recall one Saturday, I actually go up at 8:30am and played this game right through until 10:30pm sad I know but I just could not put the controller down. Game play excellent, sound and graphics excellent. I Must say the Scree is one od the best acomplices I have plyaed with. Brilliant cannot wait for the sequal.........
| Fun for expert gamers, but tough for begginers | | A gamer from St; Augusta, Russia says (25/May/2003): | My review of primal is it's auesome for people who love rpg's {Role Playing Games} that are tough but for beggining gamers this game may not be the best game for you.
But dont let that stop you with 3-D images and state of the art gameplay Primal is one of the best games you can get i have finished it but i keep coming back for more. So what I am trying to say is itt's intricate, cool, and all around auesome. I would give it a Ten out of Ten but it's hard for beggining gamers so i give it a nine.
| Great Game, captures imaginations! But a few flaws... | | Jaden from Oak Harbor WA US says (4/May/2003): | Primal is a very great game that truley takes the gamer into the story. But one huge flaw I witnessed when I was playing was that all of a sudden, Jen or Scree would be standing in the middle of the sky, like the city walls just dissapeared and I couldn't fix it. All I could do was to start over from my last save (and this really sucks when you havn't saved for a while). But I think it only happens on the Solum level. It hasn't happened yet on the Aquis or Aetha. Just giving ya'll a warning. Anywho I think besides that the game is awsome, it has a very good theme and a lot of twists to it. And the graphics are prolly a 9/10 in my opinion. :)
| Not a primitive game at all! | | Brandon Temple from Fordsville, KY, United States says (28/Apr/2003): | I've put about 5-6 hours worth of gameplay into Primal, and an intriguing, innovative world is appearing more clearly with every newfound step that I take into the realms of Primal itself. The graphics are splendid, engrossing the player into a realistic playing field that is low on load times, blockyness, or slow down. Fog and shadows are implemented effectively into battles, making it a more challenging fight when the lights dim or the fog swirls in.
The sound is ambient, but used to proper specifacations. The character voicing is superb, from Jen's swearing to Scree's rustic quotes and retorts. Battles have realistic screams, cries, and other bells and whistles, but not as many as I had hoped. The sounds do get repetitive after about an hour of gameplay.
The game is very simple to pick up and learn, but herein lies my only real concern with the game: it's easy to learn AND easy to master. Button-mashers can indeed find significant success with mere random button pressing and a little bit of luck. IT does take skill to take on bosses and packs of monsters, but even then, button-mashers can simply press the L and R buttons for dear life and eak out a victory.
All in all, I have enjoyed Primal and will continue to do so for some time, as I hope to complete this game by the end of the week. It is a game of sensational storytelling, masterful use of suspense and plot in its storyline, and an exceptional power-up system and partner based technique system that give the game an air of uniqueness.
Primal, indeed, is unique. Sound- 8.6/10 Graphics- 9.4/10 Gameplay- 8.8/10 Fun Factor- 9.3/10 Overall- 9.1/10
| Now It's even better! | | Xerianna from Plymouth, Uk says (27/Apr/2003): | OK so I wrote a review whilst on the water level last night, then I hit the next level...more action, more everything. I have to say that although I'm on the third of four levels as a main character I wish there were more!!!
Again though in saying that, we might not get a sequel if they shoved it all into one game. I hope there will be a sequel although from what I know it might not happen with the current story line...however....ya never know and to be honest I sure hope that the gaming production does do a sequel and best it's first time out because I am thoroughly enjoying this game and from what I've read around here so are many others. I'm close to the end of the third level and thinking that maybe trying that other game that I bought just so that I won't finish this one yet....arggghh the dilema :)
| Best PS2 Game I've Played since................:) | | Xerianna from Plymouth, Uk says (26/Apr/2003): | Ok so I read the review a few months back in a UK mag (where I live) and thought 'Ya know I quite fancy the idea of that'. Even so when I bought the game it still managed to suprise me with the game play (guess the review hid a few things or more). Anyhoo I'm on the water level and I have to say, water levels aren't always the easiest and it was nice to see the second level being under water. The main character are great, the interaction sometimes or often humourous and of course helpful at the same time. Still think that I see the main plot theme from here but then again I'm not so sure at the same time as I could be surprise once more. Over all it's a great game and one that I've been waiting to take me back to playing my PS2 for ages...I even bought Devil May Cry 2 at the same time but seeing as I've played 1 I thought that I'd give Primal first chance instead of going with a story I already know.
Loving it so far and will highly recommend :)
| Goth rocks Jenn and scree are unbeatable | | Kirb dog from Ogdensburg ,New York says (18/Apr/2003): | This is the best game I have played in a very long time. Her different forms are a good accent to the game. Scree is awsome when he posseses a statue that he can fight as.The enemys are articulated very good, the boss fights are exelent. The best part of the game is that you can switch between jenn and scree and talk back and forth between each other.
| Dark Demons | | Danielle from Northampton, USA says (16/Apr/2003): | I have only just rented Primal on saturday, its now wednesday, and im almost halfway through it! I absolutely love this game. It is really cool how you can switch from Jen to scree, but I think that scree should have some battle moves or something, but the rest is all good. It really gives you a sense of what is going on, and it doesn't start out really hard, like some games do. I love the different characters that they have in the games, and the movies clips and stuff are really cool, with awesome graphics. Ive probably put about 6 or 7 hours into this game so far. Even though there are some parts which are really hard to get through, and it takes a while to figure out what to do, overall its a pretty good organized game. I HIGHLY recommend this game to all dark fighting gamers. It reminded me kinda of Final Fantasy X, because the graphics are about the same, but in Primal, you get to see your opponents up close, and it really looks real. You get to know your character. I hope that you'll give this game a try because its really awesome!
| A Dark Gothic Adventure, My Cup of Tea!! | | A gamer from Salem, OR USA says (9/Apr/2003): | I bought Primal a few days ago and I have to admit it is pretty good. A few weeks prior to buying it, I held it in my hand to rent at the store. Boy, did I regret it. Primal is set in the present time where Jen Tate, the lead character goes to her boyfriend's concert only to see something bad happen. I'm not going to go into any more detail; don't want to spoil it for the gamers who have not played the game yet. Some of the good qualities of the game are the graphics. Now I have loved dark imigery for a while and one scene in the game if you look around with your character makes you feel like you are really there. In my opinion. Second, the ability to toggle between Jen and Scree is awesome. For the parts that Jen cannot access or go through, you have the brave gargoyle who can help you out. For example, if you are at a brick-work wall that only Scree can climb over to help the young lady out. The music I think is performed with professionality. It fits in with every aspect of the game. Whether it is an FMV or gameplay itself. The controls are easy to learn and the map system within the game is broken down to see the pin-point spont in where you are. There is, however, some disadvantages to the game. I don't know if I am the only gamer out there that likes to look at their surroundings, but I enjoy the scenery. The camera seems to jerk a little when I hold the camera still trying to focus on something. Other than that, I did not find anything else really bad about the game. The game reminds me a little of the Legacy of Kain series, but overall the gameplay is more engaging. I've only played about 45 minutes of it, but what I played, I liked a lot. I didn't want to put it down. So for those of you who like dark adventure games I reccomend this title. For those of you who don't like them, it's worth a rent...
| Cool so far, but a few flaws | | Jerry from Atlanta, GA USA says (8/Apr/2003): | I have only put about 5 hours of play time into Primal, and so far it is pretty cool although it has some downsides. I'll start with the downs; first off, after playing for 20 minutes, I had only actually controlled the action for about 4 minutes, the rest was a movie. This can be cool, but when I first start a game up, I want to play, fill me in on the story as we progress. Second, the little guy named Scree specifically says in the beginning "I can climb up and stone surface, this could come in handy", now, he can't climb up ANY stone surface, he can only climb up surfaces deemed necessary by the programmers. That wasn't too cool. Lastly on the bad, I think that Scree should have some sort of offensive attack (just me). Now for the good, it is very cool to change Jen to different Demon forms, that's fun. The graphics are pretty good (probably 8 of 10) but there are some areas that could have been done better. Sound is cool, please try to experience this game with Surround Sound! Very cool. I like the mix of challenges trying to figure out how to get past a certain area, after a while it does get redundant but it's fun. The gameplay is cool, the combos rock (if you can figure them out) and some of the finishing moves are spectacular looking. Over all, it's a very original game, that is fun to watch and play..the characters seem well thought out. Good value, and I am anticipating over 20 hours of gameplay (but I do go through games pretty slowly). Definately try it out.
| Dark Gothic Chick , right on | | Tyler Peterson from Paola, Kansas, USA says (7/Apr/2003): | Primal is awesome! I just received this game yesterday and have fallen in love with it. The graphics are the best I've ever seen on PS2. The only set back was the combat system, its too simplistic. And the voice actors are awesome too.
GRAPHICS:9.7/10
SOUND:9.3/10
GAMEPLAY:8.4/10
CONTROLS:8.9/10
RATING:9.2

| | sdfjg from Glasgow says (2/Apr/2003): | Primal is a good game with loads of cool ideas. It has good teamwork between the two charectors but not as good as the teamwork in ico. There are loads of cool features to this game like turning into demons so that you can perform other tasks which you would not be able to do normally. The down sides to this game is that the puzzles can be quite annoying and un obvious and it is full of graphical flaws which need to be sorted out. The characer voice acting is particulary good but the game play isnt the best.
