Become a part of the game!25758

Tom from Reno, Nevada says (19/Jun/2003):
Ever wanted to feel what it is like to manage and operate a major league baseball game? This is the game that can really take you there. A full 162 game season can really be grueling and really drag on if you are in first place in your division by 10 games but the easy to use calendar and game simulator can simulate the games you aren't interested in playing. If you can't figure out how to hit in this game, you haven't devoted enough time to it or you have a slow eye. I have faced 90mph fastballs in real life and this game is so realistic. I started a franchise and during the spring training I had the difficulty set to rookie. I hit the hell out of the ball averaging 15 runs a game. At the beginning of the season I played the frist 5 games on the medium setting, Veteran, and was still killing the ball and hitting homeruns all over the place. I then moved the setting to hard, All-Star, and that was just the perfect setting for me. Most of my stats were close to what happens in real life. My RBI's, HR, and AVG were a little exaggerated with a few players, 60, 140, .378 respectively, but over all I could count on scoring 3-12 runs a game and sometimes being shut out by a really good pitcher. This makes for really life-like gameplay. It makes it really fun when it is a close game and you are forced to used pinch hitters, pinch runners, and specialist pitchers. The funnest games to play are the ones where it is a close game in the late innings and you are really into every pitch. It is a great feeling to bring in your closer in the 9th inning with a one run lead and have him mow down the side to save the game. This game is just awesome. The number of pitches that a pitcher can throw is limited to 5 (most have 4 or 3) but the number of different kinds of pitches available is over 20. Fastball, Curve, all the regulars, and even a Knuckle Curve, Spitball, Ephus, Slurve, Palmball, and many others. Another great feature of the pitching mode is the fact that the pitcher changes velocity on his fastball depending on the situation. If you have 2 strikes on a batter and you are going for the strike out with a fastball, the pitcher will rear back and really let it loose. Troy Percival sometimes throws up to 101 in that situation when his fast ball on first on no strike pitches is more like 90-96. Anyway, this is a great game. I love playing it. The best baseball game that I have played thus far. If anyone complains that hitting is too hard, they just have to keep at it and think about what pitch might be next. You have to act like a Major Leaguer and think about what the pitcher is throwing to you. (The Pitch history page on your managers box helps you to figure out what the pitcher is going to do.)

Not Your Daddy's ATARI Baseball game19407

WarDog from Jacksonville NC, USA says (17/Mar/2003):
Hey Kids... One word before you even purchase A.S.B.-2004 ?
If you Don't have good hand-eye co-ordination or if you have slow reflexes... Do NOT buy this game !!
This is not High-Heat or Slug-Fest where you just press the directional pad and get a hit! You must understand BaseBall !!

This is a BIG Boys Game!

Oh Yeh.. All of your Silly Cheats? Go Home and play Zelda or Jak and Dexter... Quite wasting my time. There are ZERO cheats for this game. If you want to put the game on two player mode and strike yourself out.. have at it !! Go Head to Head with another person. I'd rate this game as being similar to Madden Football. You can play and win against the Computer on the Lower Difficulty Level and loose to all of your Friends OR Loose to the Computer on the Harder Levels and Kick Everyone's ASS when you Play another person Head-To-Head. It will take a GREAT amount of Patience to "Master" this Game, but stick with it, It's well worth the Time. You MUST Know The Game... You CAN'T Throw to one spot every pitch when your on the mound... You CAN'T Aim the Batting Cursor at the same spot every Pitch when your at the plate !
BOTTOM LINE !!!! If you Don't like this Game, You aren't Good enough to even attempt to Play it.

Don't buy unless you have lots of time.28690

A gamer from Wisconsin,USA says (26/Jul/2003):
This games batting is the hardest thing about it. It took me forever to get used to it and i still haven't mastered it. The curveball never curves it just drops more than any other pitch besides the ephus. The graphics aren't bad but there not that great. I like the check swing. Thats nice to have. The Franchise is pretty cool except i'd rather deal with real money than points to give it a more realistic setting. And talking about realistic i don't like the fact that the outfielders can dive right through each other when making a catch. The way the pickoff looks it's terrible. When the guys on second he starts going back even before the pitcher does anything. The crowd needs to get into the game more. The commentators need more phrases. The secanario mode is fun but really hard at certain points. I hate the fact that the opponents defense can practically catch anything and make no errors. When your own guys are just plain slow and their arms suck. The bunting and stealing are also really good on this game. The Legends teams are awesome. It's good to have the Negro League stars on the game. Well overall the game pretty much sucks unless you have lots of time on you hands to learn how to play it well. SO if your a beginner do not buy.

''a good game, but on the long run FAILURE............''26864

Andrew from Pennsylvania,USA says (1/Jul/2003):
Ah the continuing All Star Baseball franchise, always something baseball fans look forward to.The graphics are photo realistic.Alot of the player glitches were corected.(Such as a player would stand in one spot the ball would come down several feet away, and he would still catch it).It has some cool new features such as senario mode, and a pick-up game mode. There are more classic teams and players to pick from. And a whole slew of stadiums. But when it comes down to it the game gets boring fast. After a while you feel like it's just repeating itself over and over. The worst part of the game is hitting.Due to a glitch where your batter swings late it becomes extremly hard to hit.Fielding poses another problem. The computer is almost always safe.baserunning is hard also.I'd advise renting this game before you buy it because for many people this game will be extremly difficult and annoying. This year for all baseball fans i'd encourage going with MVP Baseball. It's alot more fun, nice graphics,a great new batting system, and it's alot easier. So in the long run this is a good game, but in the long run FAILURE............I hope to see a better game by next year.

ASB 2004 continues the tradition of exelence!!!!!!!19256

Brian Woodyard from Abilene, Tx, USA says (14/Mar/2003):
This Game is awesome! Again the crew at acclaim sports comes through with another great ASB game! this game is deep. Its got player Arbitration, AAA and AA clubs, winter meetings, a neat new pickup game option, a great assortment of ledgendary teams, also has another feature i like and expanion draft. The Trivia game and baseball card features are also improved with more things to unlock. It is also very cool with the addition of media and stadium tours. There only a few drawbacks that kept me from giving a 10. The first thing i dont like is that they took away the batting camera options. I used to like the zoom option in the past. It just gets you closer to the batter and makes it that much more fun. The batting is a little bit more diffucult this game but it does add to replay value. The other thing is im not sure if i really like the not being able to change the innings in season games. I did forget one other thing that is totally awesome about this game and that is the new Scenario mode which is just cool. Well i do give this game and 9 and commend the folks at acclaim sports on a Job Well Done!!! See ya next year baseball fans.

The Baseball Game of the Spring19256

Ryan "Ryhno" Harris from St.Louis, MO, USA says (24/Mar/2003):
Alright, i know there are a few sissies out there who think ASB is too hard and too complicated, but this is the baseball game of the spring. You can't ask for a more realistic baseball game. Of Course you get all the other features that were attached to last year's addition:batting practice, home run derby, and trivia. But the Frachise mode is possibly the best improvement over last year's game. For all the newcomers to the game, you start the season in spring training, and you can choose to play all the games if you wish. The hitting and pitching has improved. It is a little more difficult than last year's but I enjoy that type of gameplay. During gameplay the batters have music that plays as they approach the plate. I enjoy the little things that have been added. For instance when a player hit the ball, they actually look in the direction where the ball has been hit. Updated rosters of course and a much new and improved create-a-player. As far as the General Manager goes, its so much more realistic. You can now sign players to long term contracts or put trading blocks on them. All-Star Baseball is indeed the game of the spring.

Great Game28231

Adam Ostovich from West Mifflin, Pennsylvania says (20/Jul/2003):
I love this game its the best baseball game ive played but there are some annoyances and mistakes on it. I dont like the fact that the crowd aint that loud I go to 20 baseball games a year and the crowd on the game is nuthing, they are too quiet. other than the occaisonal chanting, it is way to plain. Also where is Jose Contreras and Hideki Matsui?!? All they did was talk about him in like every baseball magazine available and yet, he is not on the game. another problem is that guys who signed with teams after the game was realeased are free agents on the game and I cannot get them to sign with there respective teams ( i.e Reggie sanders and kenny lofton, Pirates) it says Position integrity constraints this trade is not acceptible yet if I go to franchise mode I can make the signing if I start my franchise with the pirates. but guys like kenny rogers are still free agents and not with the twins. I no it seems like I said a lot of negative stuff about the game but every other thing about the game, the graphics are great, I like the announcers, the replay and basically everything other than what i said above.

Great game, needs work.19857

Jason from Geneva, OH says (25/Mar/2003):
Many great things in Franchise mode such as arbitration, Rule 5 drafts, Rookie Drafts, trading block, and waivers. Great modes such as HR Derby, Pickup Game, Trivia Game, Batting Practice, Series Mode. The music is great. You cant beat a guy coming out to Creedence or to Bosephus (Hank Williams Jr.).

Problems are few, but serious. It is a very dishonorable thing to not include 2 people in the Franchise. One of the best parts of sports games are you and a couple of friends sitting down for a fantasy draft, and controlling all the aspects of your team. So if you are an only child and have no friends, this game is perfect.
The other problem is the phantom catching. Your glove doesnt have to hit the ball for you to catch it. Sorta stupid. Plus when you overthrow somebody, the person closest to the ball does not track it down. That is annoying, since the person that missed it usually has to run there, and that is enough time for the runner to get an extra 2 bases or more.

Great game though. Better than the rest. MVP is pretty good, but cant match up to All Start and its fantasy mode.

Greatest Baseball Game Ever23251

A gamer from Atlanta, GA USA says (11/May/2003):
Allstar Baseball 2004 is by far the best baseball game I have ever played. I like the game because of the old fashion it has, the scenario mode, and the franchise mode. I don not like how the game sometimes freezes and there was this time that I made a trade and one of the two players that I had received was gone. I mean gone completely off the game. He was nowhere to be found. I also dislike how everyone who plays this game complains about how the hitting is hard. Yes, the hitting may be a little difficult, but a real gamer like myself likes a challenge. If you do not like how the game is, do not buy it or if you do not like the hitting, just go to the options menu and put it on easy batting. This is the most realistic baseball game and the overall best baseball game that I have ever played by far. This is why I give Allstar Baseball 2004 a 9 score. (I am now just typing to get my letter posted because I want to reach the requirement of the two hundred word mark. Did I mention that Allstar Baseball 2004 is the greatest baseball game ever and that is a fact.

this game SUCKS!!!26825

A gamer from Lynchburg,Virginia,USA says (1/Jul/2003):
This game is terrible, dont buy it!The graphics are twice as bad as mvp and the gameplay is so hard!I cant get a single hit because of that stupid batting cursor.it takes forever to throw the ball and the computer runner is usually safe on base. You cant speed up your fielder or baserunner and when you hit dive the fielder doesnt dive until ten seconds later, so you usually miss the ball.the only good thing about this game is the expansion mode.its kinda fun to create your own team and mascot.its also kinda cool to hear different music whenever a batter steps up to home plate.the only game i would choose this over is slugfest, the rest of the games i would get before this.at least in other games you can actually hit the freakin ball!!!!i mean in my franchise mode my record after 83 games is 4-79 its too hard acclaim!!do something about it next year.I mean all my friends say the same stupid thing,MVP rocks,ASB sucks!I have a heck of allot of friends too!So other than the Expansion mode and sound, this game SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I THINK THE GAME SUCKS29495

Mike from Pittsburgh,Pa says (8/Aug/2003):
I really dont think this game is very good...like some other people do...i have played it for 6 days now and i recommend everyone who is thinking about getting the game..DONT,here is some reasons why:the graphics are horrible, the hitting in the homerun derby is the easiest thing i have ever done and you cant even see what the players are ranked which i really need to know because i have my own sim league...the fielding sucks very bad because it is so hard to get to the ball and the sound isnt very good because it isnt even realistic...i am so glad that i only rented the game instead of buying it because it is definately NOT worth $50.00...... i dont think this game even deserves space on store shelves...i only rented it because they didnt have high heat 2004 and im glad i didnt go to the mall and have them not have it and actually buying this poor excuse for a video game. if you want a good game...you would be better off making your own game because this game if definately NOT worth it.

this game is alright23129

Matt from Champaign IL says (9/May/2003):
I played this game and I have to say that it is not the best game i've ever played. To begin with, the hitting is way too difficult. There is not enough time to move the cursor to where the ball is pitched. There was also the over sensitive nature of the umpire. After throwing at a batter you were initially warned. If you hit another batter or threw it a little too far inside, then you were thrown out of the game. I also think it is way to easy to bunt for a basehit. All you need is a fast batter and you can get on almost everytime while playing 2 players. Another problem i encountered was the occasional foul ball outs. There were times when i fouled a ball back to the backstop and the next thing i know I have a new batter hitting. They just called me out on a foul ball that was not caught. The graphics of the game were good, but overall i think this game was not as great as i would have thought. mvp baseball 2003 was tons more fun than this game.

Best game yet this year19889

Robert from Connecticut says (25/Mar/2003):
There is no way that this game is not the best game of the year 2003. I don't think that any other game will have the options and play like this game. When playing this game you will need to put your knowledge of baseball and hand-eye coordination at work. There are a feww things i don't like but what game doesn't have glitches. My 6 year old cousin can play this game on vetran after only playing it three times. Of course you will lose in a season because every team has it's off days. I think i went on a 3 game slide but then went on to have 5 out of the 9 guys in my line-up have 13 game hitting streaks. The stats, awards, off season transactions, injuries, player developement, and the computer's intelligence are what make this game great. I don't see how you can say this game is a waste of money. I think that Acclaim sports has a great challenge to make this game better in some way because it is already near perfect.

The best game on earth??23299

Robert Spence from Port Arhtur, Texas PIMP city says (12/May/2003):
This is a one of a kind game. I like the hitting style , i got it on vertan and my team is the cubs. I trade for jenkins and sexton and my lineup is deadly. Bellhorn, Sosa, Sexson, and Jenkins. I got a good pitching staff woods, clement, prior, zambranao, and estes. Everyone is sayingthe hitting is hard i think it is great. This makes the agem great i think my team is record is 23-11 and Sosa leads the leads in homers with 23. I thought the game was very hard to hit with to at first but if you move the cursor to the ottom of your strike zone and as the pitch is pitched just you have to do is my the cursor up and to the left adn right just to match up it is har at first but you will get it down sooner or later and you will be sayig this is the best game that is avaiable after you get it. I hate MVP because it just to unrealistic in baseball. There is only one baseball game i will play and it is ASB 2004.

Real Baseball21475

Jason from CA says (16/Apr/2003):
The people at Acclaim really know their baseball. I'm so happy that a game is out that simulates real baseball instead of home run derby! The AI of the opposing manager is great and they've made some great improvements, such as the computer now takes the out at first base on a sac bunt rather than trying for the lead runner every time.
There are a few annoyances however,
1. you can score a run with the squeeze play every time.
2. when playing the all star teams or old timers players should be wearing their teams uniforms, they don't
3. i love the throwback jersey feature, but you can't use it in franchise mode, which is lame.
4. the instant replay mode doesn't have a high camera angle to get a look at long home runs.
it would be great if these things were fixed in future editions, but as far as realism for true baseball fans you can't beat this game!

Its an ok game, but i have some problems with it.22330

Shoog Nite from Washington, USA says (27/Apr/2003):
Ok, Take Alex Rodriguez. Turn on your system and and play franchise as the texas Rangers. Then go and simulate all 162 games, then go see what A Rod's Stats are for that season, I Gaurantee that the majority of the time he will hit around 258 and hit 43 homeruns. And anyone who knows baseball knows that Alex Rodriguez will never hit a career low of 258. Yes the game is realistic but, correct me if i'm wrong but first i dont think you need hand eye cordination when playing this game(Steve) unless ur retarded and actually think your playing in a real game. maybe some people like winning game cause ur favorite player hit 5 hopmeruns in a game. I would love to see Sammy Sosa hit 74 homeruns in a season. I can make that possible in these games. This game is just irritating. But its good, dont get me wrong, i like it realistic.

amazing26613

Sebastian from Palisades Park NJ says (29/Jun/2003):
personally, i think this game is amazing For all you people that say the batting is too hard, i dont think you are really ttrying. EIther that or you dont have any hand eye coordination
I dont think the graphics are too bad, but they are pretty good.

The best part of theis game is that it is fun. There is nothing like the feeling of being down by 3 in the bottom of the 9th and hitting a walk off grand slam.

This game is also challenging. You'll find pitchers getting hits off you ervry once in a while. Think your closing in on that perfect game or no-hitter and in the bottom of the ninth the picther gets a hit. It has happened to me

I give it a nine because sometimes it freezes, and they should have better camera angles Other then that, this game is great

Great Game Potential to a lot better35518

Alejo from Okinawa, Japan says (17/Nov/2003):
ASB 2004 is by far the best baseball game out there right now! Yes, hitting is difficult but that is what makes the game so good. As a baseball player and coach I look for the same realism in the video game to be somewhat comparable to the realism on the diamond. Areas of improvement; I don't know about anybody else, I remember when it rained during a game PUDDLES sometimes formed. Hummm? If you're going to have a Hall of Fame than your franchise mode has to last longer than 30 seasons. Take a note from John Madden owners mode, you should be dealing with cash not POINTS!! I don't where you guys got that one from. A little more attention to detail and the sky is the limit for this game. Lastely when is the first college baseball game coming out??

Best Baseball Game Ever Made26612

Frank from Staten Island, NY says (29/Jun/2003):
This game is the best baseball game ever made. First I'm gonna get to the Franchise Mode which I love the most. This franchise mode is the most in dept franchise ever. Packed with 30 seasons you can sign contracts, trade players, drop and add people from/to the minors, check out the league news, get trophies, and even set some all-time records. I haven't even got to the off-season, but the draft looks hot. I think discussing the people who are leaving in winter break is so realistic. The franchise mode is the best. I also like scenario mode. How you could change history with the touch of the X button or moving the analog stick. This game is the greatest baseball game ever and I don't know how anyone is gonna try and top it.

Good Game19986

B- Dubz from Suffern, NY says (27/Mar/2003):
I had the 2003 and 2002 versions of ASB and i think 2004 is the best one yet. Ive seen MVP and it doesnt compare to ASB. in MVP the whole thing is too big and its too easy to hit and they didnt do good stadium detail or player detail or any detail really. ASB has ever detail down to the location of the Kodak sign in left field at Yankee Stadium. I like how the scoreboards are more real life now with the players name number and pic on them. The franchise is imaculate and i like the future ballparks. also, i like that it is hard. the first time i popped it in i lost on rookie level 3 times in a row. the firs time i played MVp i won 12-0. ASB is realistic and will keep people glued to their seats. GO YANKEES!
