STORY: The story is okay. In fact, it's kinda weak compared to the story driven epics of Final Fantasy, Xenosaga and anything else from that console RP powerhouse, Squaresoft. But, that's perfectly fine; Dark Cloud 2 isn't a story driven game. It's a character and gameplay driven game. Unlike Final Fantasy and Zenosaga, you don't have 500 hours of FMV guiding you by the hand to the end of the game. You actually have to play this one folks. It's an action RPG in the style and spirit of Zelda. The cutscenes in this game are short and sweet, and placed where appropriate. Also added is a handy feature: since the cutscenes aren't FMV, you can pause them, in case nature calls in the middle of a crucial movie, or you can skip them altogether. The story is just fine for the style.
GAMEPLAY: This is where Dark Cloud 2 shines. The controls are solid, simple, and easy to learn. In fact, there's a help system in game in case you forget something. The majority of gameplay is dungeon crawling, supplemented and driven by the Georama system, which leads me into a sub-category of gameplay that well call dungeon crawling. Dungeon crawling should be familiar to the older FF players, and anyone that's played Zelda. Thing is, there is quite a bit of it in this game. Some of the dungeons are massive, to the point of becoming monotinous. This is broken up a bit by the dungeons being segmented into "floors" between which you can leave the dungeon, and return to the floor you were about to play. But there's still a lot of it. Almost too much. But, if you're like me, you have the stones to tough it out.
CHARACTERS: Holy $#< remove me > at ! on a stick Batman! We have support characters coming out our nose! There's only 2 playable characters: Max and Monica. Max is the rougeish Han Solo-esque son of the first town's richest citizens. He kicks ass, in the fact that he's not a puss like some unnamed characters *cough*Zidane*cough*, he carries a gun, which is good for ranged attacks, and he can be armed with either a wrench, which is what you start with, or a hammer. Basically, he's an armed repair technician and inventor. Yes, Max can use his overly bulky digital camera to take idea pictures, and combine them into inventions. Some of the game's most powerful weapons cannot be found: Max has to build them. Max also has a mecha. I think Max is short for "Maximum Destruction" which becomes true later, when Max gets a laser pistol and his mech gets the "nova cannon".
The female lead, and other playable character is Monica, a hottie from 100 years in the future. She's a princess, to boot. She uses swords and magic; in using a sword, she gets way more weapons than Max, and she's faster, though not as powerful. Her magic armband allows her to toss fireballs, or absorb enemy elemental magic, and use it herself. Max and Monica can both get multiple costumes, but I only focus on getting Monica a costume: You can get her a Lum bikini. (Lum is a popular anime character in Japan. Why am I saying this, RPG players are anime freaks.)
There's too many support characters to count, and all of them offer useful abilities. You can choose one to take into a dungeon with you, which saves you the trouble of having to hunt for them, wherever you put them.
Overall, this game is a good one for Zelda players. I'd suggest you rent before you buy, though, as DC2 won't be everyone's cup of tea.

After a short rental period, I went out and bought this game and have enjoyed every bit of it.
DC2 is a wonderful RPG adventure, quite possibly one of the best released to date.
What adds to the magic is a perfect combination of effects, with drop dead gorgeous visuals done in a crisp looking cell shaded style, replayablity, and a humorous plot with excellent voice acting.
One of the things that separates this game from the rest is a unique feature called "Georama" which actually lets you rebuild a shattered world however you see fit. By collecting pieces to various buildings you can house the various residents of the world as you choose. This feature was also included in the original DC but that system was linear in which you collected items for specifaclly for certain buildings and place them where the residents tell you. Now in DC2 the system is dramatically opened up, allowing you to build how you choose and place the worlds residents where YOU want adding a whole new level of gameplay and replayablity.
The invention system is another unique twist which scores pretty well with me. Aided with the help of a camera you can take hundreds of thousands of pictures which can be used later for invention ideas. You can make litterally thousands of things using pictures of mundain items found everywhere. After gathering an a collection of pictures you can use them to find ideas to invent, while the invention system is essentially a trial and error sytem in which you take three pictures and see if they can form an invention, it still adds on hours of gameplay.
The weapon system is a pretty cool feature as well. You start of with one weapon, well not anything special it develops quickly. After fighting with a weapon for a while that weapon gains experience that can be used for level ups, but before you level it up you can customize it with various items, like a stonecrusher that adds bonuses to your weapon when you fight against a stone enemy. Soon you have a unique weapon. However there are other weapons that you can buy, they just won't have the bonuses that you have aquired with experience. Once you meet certain requirements with a certain weapon, you can upgrade and turn it into something better. Watch out though your weapons have stamina and if it gets too low your weapon will break making all of your effort in vain! This effect can be easily countered by keeping its stamina up with various items.
I honestly can't think of anything wrong with this game! Dark Cloud 2 has an undeniable charm to it that will keep you entranced for many, many hours! If you don't like this game you probably eat babies.

This game was one of the greatest RPG games ive ever played! It last long too. OVER 100 HOURS of gameplay. This game took me 105 hours to beat the game. The game also has an epic storyplay too.>>> heres my 1-10 ratings
Graphics: 7 I rated the graphics a 7 because the charecters in the game look like cartoon people and the water is too blue.
Otherwise everything else is nice and beautiful.
Sound: 8 Very good sound for parts of the game. I just dont like the fact that the sounds repeat and repeat over and over per world. But that isnt a big problem.
Gameplay: 10 The game is really fun and you will have a great time exploring new dungeouns and destroying new monsters.
Lifespan: like i said hundreds of hours of gameplay. VERY GOOD GAME!!!! i stayed up to 1 am in da morning playin this game.
Fun factor: 10 This games fun factor is so high because theres always something to do in the game and Youll have so much fun leveling up your weapons and defeating every monster.
Value: i bought it for 36.00$ at EB but that was a while ago.

Dark Cloud 2 is one of the best RPG games of the year. The characters in the game are better. It is not as kiddy as the first. Dark Cloud number 2 has more stuff you can do. I like the way you can fish, you can even keep the fish you catch and raise them. Then you can even Race the fish you raise or catach in the Fish Racaes. That is cool in my book. You have a password contest. You even have a Ridepod(a robot).
I like the Level Up, Spectrumize, Synthesize, and Build Ups in this game much better than the last. You can even tack pictures in this one. You use the pictures to invent an item then you create the item. If you take pictures used for inventions or unusual "Scoop" photos, you will earn Photographer Points. Your Photographer Level is determined by the number of photographer points you have earned. Good thing happen as your photographer level goes up. You can also use two yes two weapons at once your sword with one hand and a gun in the other. The Dungeons are harder than the first. Most of all it is different unlike the first Dark Cloud you aren't doing the same thing over and over. There is more stuff to do side missions and all. That is my Review. If you like it are not you have to give it the respect because there is not another game like it.

Personaly, I really enjoyed Dark Cloud 2. Sure, it may not be for everyone, but for a hardcore RPG fan it's a must have. I also think that as a sequel it adds to the prevoius game and improves upon it. For example, the Georamma plays an actual part in the game play. Now you actually have to finish a village in order to continue on with game. I also like the fact that you have to worry about three characters this time around instead of six(boring). The weapon customization has also been improved as has the character customization. But what sets this sequel apart from its predecior is the ability to invent items by taking pictures! Not only that but in order for some of the NPC's to join you, you have to take specific pictures in order to convince them (pretty clever if you ask me). But like I said it's not for everyone. If my review can't convince you to go out and buy it, at least rent it for the weekend and try it for yourselves. Trust me, you'll be glad that you did.

I bought this game cause I was in the mode for a good game. I'll be honest when I picked this up I was expecting something else, but this game was truly worth the money.....and then some.
I played the first one with a friend and I thought that one was fun, but then I played this one and I found out that(a little austin powers, but who cares)that was fun but nothing compared to the sequal. I have a ps one, an n64, a ps2, an xbox (and a regular nintendo plus a super nintendo; which were both great in their times, but.......) this game on this platform puts everything to shame. i have played some zelda and final fantasy, but I still like this the best, its everything. Right now I havent been moving ahead in the story because Im training fish and watching them grow and making new ones. Ive got several freinds that have named fish and are so into their fish that they dont care about the game anymore, they only care about their fish. Anyways its a cool game, worth some time.

This the most entertaining game that level 5 inc has made! The story is exelnt the graphics are cartoony...............but, WHO CARES!!!!!! 100s of comibinatoions to make of the ride pod cloths and invetions! Taking pictures of anything in the game is most exicting! The whole thing is good. Better than the first. And building can be like Sim city....................... Sort of. The battles and music is very good. The game is always challenging! I love this game almost as much as I love FF X! (FIANL FANTASY X!!!!!!! All who play this game are bound to like it! The final bosses though is too easy. That is probally the only thing I can complain about! The rest of the game is just AMAZING! I'm looking for ward to Dark Cloud 3! (look up Dark cloud 3 at google .com type in the words "Dark Cloud 3") I hope it 's as good as these two master peices!(DC1&Dc2) Good-bye. I like this game.

this game is very addictive you dont stop playing it...just two days ago me and my boyfriend rented it and were already up to 30 hours into it....its really hard in some parts though were only on level 2 and were having diffacultys on finding how to take the boss out of the pondit doesnt explain anywhere i think it might have something to do with inventing things with the pictures but we still need to find more pictures!!!hint: the more you build up your weapon the bigger and cooler the monsters are and the more pictures of things you take thats unique the more you go along you relize that you need them so take pictures when your up to 30 just save them in your photo book and keep taking more...but if anyone has any hints for level 2 and on e-mail me at.....sexy_mofo04< remove me > at hotmail.com

when I first heard about Dark Cloud 2, the concept of creating your own towns that you could acctually interact with, and populate was very intriging to me. I saved my money and bought it and at first it seemed kind of cliche.;
A boy stuck in a town he cant leave seeks to see the outside world and have adventure, etc, etc, etc.
I am not going to give away the whole story to you.
This is not "The best game ever made" but it is a good game that will keep you coming back for more. This game does have over 50 hours of gamplay like the package reads, but its more about the replayability than the story line or the battle system, it is more about the addictive elements that keeps you coming back for more.
In conclusion this game is worth the 50 bucks you will lay down at your local best buy, just dont expect an epic story line.

i recently bought the game for my husband and daughter and ive spent 30hrs already on it. its haeps better than the last one but my husband says he enjoyed dc1 better,i think ist because he doesnt get as much play time as me.its a must buy for a family.we have saved it 3 times so we each have our own game a nd its a competition to see who can create the most inventions.i like the fact you get more in boxes and rocks my item bag is always full and the little chalenges on the way like runningto the boat in 2 mins yeh right it took me a few turns i finaaly got it.and th candles in church arnt they a mission, all part of the fun i suppose.well all you dc fans out there enjoy and be sure to email me with ant tips im still stuck in rainbow forest at boss level so ant help would be apprciated.thanks guys bye

I love the challanges and the fact you can change their outfits and inventing items . the ride pod is really cool.the whole thing about getting people on your train and getting them in your party. Its a lot easier than the first Dark Cloud because you don't have to worry about your thirst. I miss getting to rebuild villages, but Dark Cloud 2 offers an invention list that you can make, like weapons, or a new energy pack for Steve.I mean all the other rpg games like zealda and Deus Ex(Witch is vary ,vary changling and good graphics) Dark cloud rules them all. Dark Cloud 2 is one of the best RPG games of the year. The characters in the game are better. It is not as kiddy as the first. Dark Cloud number 2 has more stuff you can do. I can't wait to buy Dark Cloud 3 when they relase it!!!

it's one of the best games i have seen in a while cuse it gives you the abillity to build and creat thing that you find from a camra wich is sorta wierd and then get the part's to actually build it and like the first one you can build-up the weapons and save the world from evil again but it can be hard some times that's y they call it vigeranc it's like the saying eat or be eatin survival of the fittess plus it can and might teach you leadership,teamwork and possibly other skill's like those who aim at great deeds must also suffer greatly and Many a time . . . frome a bad beginning great friendships have sprung up. as well as Fortune helps the brave.and last but not least

I have noticed that you all have takin over 100 hours to beat the game? well i am only on my 58th hour and i am at the dark gene and i mostly go out and fish and build my weapens up, i gots a super nova gun an finalresort, and for my wrench is the grade0 , and o yea, i am only 12 so i think i must be an realy "REAL" gamer.. this games sorta easy but fun and adictin..
o and i just read an walkthrough about fishing and all of you trying to find out how to get lures for the lure rod it said for you to beat any class in the finny frenzy, im still trying and my fish has 56boost.. i think its a stupid fish.. it sucks at racing.. tell me if thats how you get lures cause i am an real fisher of the game -_-

This game is so cool!!! Try it and experience the great heart warming adventure of these two unstopable heroes!!! :-)When I played this game at the beginning, I was sure I'll like it until the end because of its awesome graphics!!! I wonder if they will make Dark Cloud 3... I hope so! I enjoyed the part where you synthesize your own weapons because its nice to see them change their appearances... and also Max's and Monica's clothes... Their kinda cute... And who would ever forget the story sequence...I like them all!!! You know? I hope the makers of this super-coo; game will even make action figures or their weapons to sell of course.. because if they do... I'm going to buy them! hehehe

This game is awsome! I'm currently at the Starlight canyon.
This is by far better than DK1 and the best game i have ever played.. (hint) if you get corrine on your train... you can buy hair-clips for monica. (most of them are really pretty!) You can buy outfits for everyone... CLOTHING SHOPS: Max's overalls-Jurak mall,Max's shoes-Max's family butler after recruited,Monicas hair accesories-after recruting corrine,ALOT of extra and extreme outfits-mayor after recruited. As you can tell, my main priority is to get all the outfits... have fun playing this game and acquiring your charecters wardrobes! If you need any help that has to do with Clothing in DK2... E-MAIL ME!

okay DC was good but we are talking on whole new levels now!!!. Better Graphics..(way to use those polygons guys!!) and as we know the dungeon crawling and weapons build up parts do take some time.BUT.. come on if you are playing an RPGish game you better expect it damn it!!. I love the inventing. Now I am not much of a console player. FPS player mostly bt when it comes to PS2 console games this is by far worth the time and effort. even if you just play to see the freaking amazing graphics.still trying to get over the grpahics after 100+ hours of gaming (i can't quit without building up everything!)

This game is addicting and great for the hardcore gamer that likes to play a game more than once. This game called my name every night for at least 2 months untill i beat it. It took me just over 120hrs. to beat and i still didnt do everything. This game is unique in combing alot cool in game challenges like spheda(golf) timed levels item invention which i here there are some 25 items to invent with me only inventing 10 to 15. Great storyline and plot in the best RPG you could buy right now maybe even ever buy. Great cheracters and bosses combine for an all around challengeing and fun game. Better than Vice City.

the best part of dark cloud 2 is that it's better than the origanal,you get to choose what you want to do when you want to,you'll fall in love with the charecters,you get to ride in a large (customizible) robot thingy, you can create an item with the make feature, the items are cool, the story line has twists and turns , the enemys are very mindblowingly awsome,you can play again and again with a diffrent party of charecters, the extras are pretty cool, and you restore forests and stuff! you'll love this creative, ultra-fun, super-cinnamatic,gem of a rpg! dark cloud 2 is defainitly a fantastic game.

I rented this game and loved it so much I bought it! I've seen numerous PS2 games that aren't up to the standard of graphics, but this game actually has great graphics. Dark Cloud 2 will keep you playing for at least 90 hours. If you like to get everything in a game then it'll take you more like 110 hours. Dark Cloud 1 was good, but it definately needed numerous touch ups, and for once a company took this into consideration. You can also make inventions, raise fish, play spheda(golf), and find scoops. If you are in any way passionate about RPGs, I urge you rent it at least. You'll be glad you did.
