My Review of Fisherman's Challenge | | Pete from Chicago says (23/Jan/2003): | Graphics: A step up from Sega Bass Fishing Duel.....Except the fish. They just don't look as good. They swim more jerkily. The water and boat effects are very well done. However, there is significant slowdown with the framerates constantly.
Gameplay: The reeling is a pain in the **s. you have to circle the right analog stick, and it reels in very slowly. In SBFD you were able to reel it in much faster and have more control over the lure. In this game it feels more distant. The fish seem to come out of nowhere, they're not just lingering around like in SBFD. The control over the boat is waaay better than SBFD.
Sound: the sound is better than SBFD, it has dolby surround, and you have the option of turning off the music if you like. But just like any fishing game, the voiceovers are awful.
Overall: I'd say rent this game before you buy it and see if you like it. I've only played it for about a half hour so don't take all this to heart. Example: Maybe i need a better rod for faster reeling, etc... also, the game is very deep with the modes of play and tournament mode and lures and rods. I'm very interested to see how gamespot reviews this cause there are so many good aspects and so many bad aspects to this game. It's like 50/50. anyway, take my review for what it's worth!!! happy gaming.
