the best baseball game out there/ever | | aaron from Holt(Missouri),USA says (19/Jul/2003): | This game is the best baseball game I have ever played.If this game was any better it would be real.The graphics are great the pitching is great the batting and feilding are great,great game.I thought All Star Baseball was good until I played World Serise Baseball 2K3.Anybody who has played this game will agree with me.

They were above average but the graphics from MVP Baseball 2003 were much better. However, in terms of gameplay, controls and overall fun, this game wins flat out. If the boys at Sega Sports need to focus on one thing for the next game, it would be to improve the graphics.

| World Series Baseball 2K3 is a TRUE baseball fan's game. | | John from New York, USA says (27/Apr/2003): | World Series Baseball 2k3 and MVP Baseball 2003 are both excellent games, but World Series Baseball 2K3 is a true FAN's game. MVP Baseball is more targetting the overall audience, with it's arcade-like simulation. World Series Baseball 2K3's realistic presence is mind boggling. Batting stances, pitching styles, and fielding are amazing. Ball velocity during pitching and when it's hit are accurate. Base running is also very accurate. In MVP Baseball, I found hitting a triple to be almost IMPOSSIBLE. In WSB 2K3, if a ball is hit well in the corner and the fielder is slow, then a triple can be achieved. The stadium interaction is realistic also, such as the apple rising when a homerun is hit in Shea stadium. The most important part of the game, pitching, puts you in FULL control. A full arsenal of pitches puts in complete control in trying to fool your pitcher. The hitting AI is real also, when it comes to your pitches. They don't know when you throw a breaking ball or a curve ball. They chase pitches when they get fooled, and they get locked up when they don't swing. The BEST, yet unimportant aspect of this game, is charging the mound. After the batter gets hit, the next successive batter shows a more intense reaction, and when the third or fourth batter gets beaned, he charges the mound. You don't get to see a fight, but you do see the catcher run up to try to hold the hitter, but then it stops there. Still, it's really nice touch. In MVP baseball, when a hitter gets beaned, he reacts as if he was hit by a car, thus displaying it's arcade-like presence. The only bad part of this game, is the hitting-animation. What makes certain players distinctive, are their stances, which this game displays, and their swings, which this game doesn't. Giambi's hook, Manny's one-arm power swing, Torii Hunter's quick two-hand swing, or Jim Thome's power pivot are not seen in this game, and I think the absence of the marquee swings is a downside. Every player has the SAME exact swing, which makes hitting a bit tedious and boring. But, it does have Sammy Sosa's jump, but what game doesn't? There is an option in the game called "pitch preview" which basically tells you the general area of where the ball will go before the pitch. With it, hitting is easy. I'm a week before the all-star game in a season, and about 8 players are on pace for 74 homeruns. I guess it is emphasizing the lack of great pitching in the league, but this is too much. Overall, this game is amazingly realistic which makes this the best baseball simulation out there. What makes the game short of a 10/10 grading is the aforementioned problem, the hitting. If the game just fixed the player swings and a slightly more realistic season simulation, this game is a perfect 10.
| Nothing to see after playing MVP baseball 2003 | | Joe Fuente from Mexico says (23/Apr/2003): | I know that Sega has been doing great stuff lately, but when I played the 2k3 and just saw the past yearŽs same rubbish, I couldŽnt do anything but to check Slugfest, but I found that the late Triple play was now called MVP I gave it a vote of faith. And the great suprise was that this is the best baseball simulation game ever!!! Great interface, great graphics, great updates as the little screens for each runner on each base... everything is great!!! Try it at the same time that MLB 2k3 and youŽll team with EA.
| Best PS2 baseball game there is | | Jeff Seale from Louisville, KY, USA says (20/Apr/2003): | Of course anything Sega and ESPN put their names on is going to rock, but this takes the cake! The sound and graphics (backgrounds and player animations included) kick some major butt. I especially like the info windows that tell you things like who's on base, who's at bat/on deck/in the hole and the warmup status of pitchers in the bullpen. The instant replay system is also very cool. It works just like your VCR and lets you control the camera angle.

I think that baseball games have along way to go with batting stances (need to be more real) But i love the game over all and can't stop playing. Theres is a huge amount of stats to read though in your season, you also can break single season and carer records
| getting better | | A gamer says (3/Apr/2003): | this game is getting closer to an actual baseball experiance, it uses past baseball games as a guide of what not to do in certain aspects and of what worked, my only concern is that there are so many controls you can't just play with a friend who has never played, you have to teach them how to play for a good half hour first, and lastly when they show close ups of the players faces their eyes never blink...this bothers me...
