Its a tough call | | Sam from Indiana, USA says (4/Nov/2003): | Aero Elite is much like Ace Combat 4 except all of the many planes are real unlike some of the planes and scenarios in AC4. One of the frustrating parts of AE is that some of the missions are rather difficult, at times almost impossible. I have spent over 2 hours trying to complete one mission. The main problem is that the planes are much less responsive in AE and have more of a tendency to stall. I am not sure if that is more realistic but it can get very frustrating. I do like that the pilot has more control over some of the functions like gear and such but I wish there were more. I don’t like that you can’t fire unless you are near the target or that you can’t control the flaps. The training sessions are nice but I wish there was more about firing warning shots, that took quite some time to figure out. The graphics weren’t as good in this game but like the planes, the missions were more realistic. Overall, if you are up for the challenge, this is a great game and as was stated before takes much longer to complete than AC4. I would purchase the next edition if there were one.
| Great game, great to have along with Ace Combat 04 | | f4ephantom from SanFransisco, CA, USA says (31/May/2003): | Aero Elite is one of the greatest PS2 flight/ combat simulation games for the PS2. If you love all types of aircraft, and lots of missions, I recommend this game. The graphics are not as good as AC04s, but it has some better little graphical features, although the terrain and HUD displays are not as sharp as AC04s. The missions are very realistic, very fun, and this game will give you lots of fun, and will last longer than Ace Combat 04. The training is great, but it can be improved. Some missions are tough in the training mode, others are a snap to beat. The sound is excellent, just as good as AC04s, and the music is ok. The 2 player mode is not very good, you can only battle against the 2nd player in 1 terrain, just a plain sea. The best mode is the Aero meet and training modes, which sets you on a variety of realistic missions, from learning how to take-off, to doing advanced ariel manuvers, and bombing missions. The weapons are more realistic than AC04s, and you can load more than 2 types of weapons on at a time. Overall, this game is comparable to AC04.
The graphics and some of the controls are not as good, but the simulation feeling is better.
I recommend this game for anyone who likes aviation / war games, and it makes a good game to have with Ace Combat 04.
| Ecellent, pure ecellence! | | Jeffrey Mihaly from Oshawa says (10/Apr/2003): | Tons of missions... tons of planes... this games is great! I used to think Ace Combat 04 was prety good, until i player this game! If your looking for good grafics and realistic game play, this is the game for you! Unlike Ace combat 04, you can even use helicopters! Though the training is long, it's very useful if your a rookie.
Sega really did a great job this time.
| Greatest PS2 Flight SIM ever! | | A gamer from SanFransisco, USA says (4/Apr/2003): | Aero Elite is the greatest PS2 flight/ combat simulation game ever! If you love all types of aircraft, and lots of missions, I recommend this game! The graphics are comparable to AC04, it has some better little graphical features, although the terrain and HUD displays are not as sharp as AC04s. The missions are very realistic, very fun, and this game will give you lots of fun, and will last MUCH longer than Ace Combat 04, which I beat in 2 weeks. The training is great, but it can be improved. Some missions are tough in the training mode, others are a snap to beat. The sound is excellent, just as good as AC04s, except the music. Compared to AC04s music, Aero Elite's sucks! I suggest that you turn the music off; you can hear the great engine sounds and HUD sounds better. The 2 player mode is good, not as fun as the Campaign and training modes. The best mode is the Aero meet mode, which sets you on a variety of realistic missions, from bombing to recon. The computer planes are challenging, and put up a good fight. The weapons are more realistic than AC04s, from cluster bombs and rockets, to laser guided missiles and heat seeking missiles, Aero Elite's weapon selection is much better than AC04s. You can put them on real hardpoints on your aircraft, and they act realistically. Overall, besides the music and slightly sluggish controls, this game is much better than AC04. If you like realistic flight combat SIMs, this game is for you!
| The ULTIMATE flight sim!!! | | Jim Barry from Attleboro,MA,USA says (31/Mar/2003): | Being a veteran flight-sim player for many years (my 1st was Sublogic’s Flight on my old TRS-80 – YAH that long ago!) this is the best computer/console flight game I have EVER PLAYED. Not one detail was ignored – it is the GT3 for fighter jocks.
The rigid attention to detail makes this a wonderful gaming experience. Landing gear wheels spin, blinking nav-lights, landing gear buckling on hard carrier landings, streaming vapor off the leading edge of wings on high-speed/low altitude turns, tire marks on runways after landing, even accurate weapon profiles (the “pop-up” maneuver of a Hellfire missile before slamming into a tank!!). All aircraft feature extraordinary detail in both design and paint-schemes. For those of you who used to build model airplanes as a kid and wanted to fly one into battle – this is the game for you.
The handling reflects accurate performance modeling of the aircraft contained. One reviewer criticized this game having aircraft handle “like a school bus” – granted, this game is not an arcade-type “finger-masher” like AC4 (in which aircraft have an unrealistic complement of OVER 50 air-to-air missiles). The aircraft handle in this game, well..like aircraft NOT a Colonial Viper (ex: if you drop a bomb off your right wing – the weight imbalance will make you roll to the left, you have to compensate) – It’s THAT accurate.
Bottom line…For a fun shoot em’ up arcade-like aircraft game – Ace Combat 4 is for you. If you want an accurate, detailed, true-to-form flight combat experience – then get Aero Elite.
Out.
| This Game is awesome!!! | | Guy who would like to tear Saddam's womanly parts off. says (27/Mar/2003): | This is the greatest flying game for playstation 2. This dominates Ace Combat 4. This has what I've been waiting for, trip wires on the carriers!!! The aircraft are awesome looking. There is even a US-1 That you can land on the water. Tons of aircraft to chose from including an Apache and an Av-8b Harrier. The aircraft have different colors too. If you hit the sound barrier, you even see a quick vapor cloud form on the jet. Lots of loadouts to chose from too. Unlike ace combat 4, 2 player mode has an external view. The Scramble missions are great too. There are even recon missions. You take photos of aircraft in your airspace. This game is definately more of a sim that an arcade(arcade mode can also be chosen). Some say it's like driving a charter bus. I totally disagree. Thats what it would really look like form the jet. All planes look slow in the air relavent to the ground if your high up. The think its supposed to look like going mach 10 five feet off the ground when your 20,000 feet of altitude. I love this game and it will keep me hooked for a long time.
| Game Play Is The Best Overall That I've Ever Seen. | | Mack from Detroit , Mi, USA says (25/Mar/2003): | Aero Elite Combat Academy Is The Best Flight Sim, Sega Did Well.
A Large Verarity Of Planes Even Flying Attack Choppers, Very Challenging.
It's Aero Wings 2 Supercharged,It's Great!,Different Weather Conditions and Times Of Day, Scamble Missions,Ace Combat 4 Has Been Knocked Out Of The Drivers Seat,There Is A New Kid In Town,And He's Flying High,A Must Have.
| Kick Ass Combat Flight Sim | | Chris Kostyk from Watertown, New York, USA says (21/Mar/2003): | This is what the consoles have been missing for a long time. I decent combat flight sim. Aero Elite makes the grade in every part of this. From the amazing graphics, to the detailed terrian, it's all here. A HUGE selecton of craft, although not too many are available from the start.
The graphics are a high point for Aero Elite. The game is simply fantastic. The detail on the planes, everything from strobe lights, hull plates, canopy glare.....it's all here. The evnvironmental details weren't overloked. Clouds, rain, lens glare, heat plumes, afterburner/engine exhaust, wing trails, mach plume...you name it, it's here.
The flight controls are very good for a sim on a console. With the standard Dual Shock 2 controller, they are easy and responsive. In my opinion the game does have a slightly steep learning curve. This will turn some people away who are looking for a more arcade style flight sim......stick with Ace Combat if you don't want the REAL thing.
A few of the missions will drive you crazy. I would tear through missions, only to get to one that I CAN'T do. It was crazy!! Retry after retry I jsut couldn't do it. Finally, after some unorthadox craft selections and some fancy flying, I passed it. Thank god.
| Amazing Game | | Leo from Miami, FL, USA says (18/Mar/2003): | This game is one of the best air fight simulators I have ever played. I've been an avid flight sim player for years and this takes the winning prize. Although some of the missions are extremely easy, the hard ones are really hard. You have over 60 planes to choose from, but you have to earn them. I have personally opened over 6 so far and a helicopter. If you know of any cheats, please post as soon as possible. Enjoy.
| Why is Game Pro blind? This is a Great game! | | Kyle Luebbe from Terre Haute, Indiana says (17/Mar/2003): | I almost always agree with the reviews of games given by GamePro magazine. Yet they gave Aero Elite a HORRIBLE review. I was absolutly shocked. This is the best flight game I have every played. It's better than Ace Combat, it's better than any flight sim I've played in the arcades. If you haven't played this game do yourself a favor and go rent it from blockbuster. The sounds are fantastic. TURN THE MUSIC OFF and just leave the sound effects. This will improve the game 100%. Great controls, great learning curve. GREAT GAME. GamePro said that the training missions are so tough they actually used the word "impossible". I beat ALL the training missions in a few hours.
| More aircraft, more missions, but more time-consuming to learn than AC-4 | | Mark P. from El Monte, California USA says (16/Mar/2003): | Aero Elite is quite nicely done, but takes FOREVER to get out of the training mode before it lets you go use all the various aircraft it has available. The training isn't overwhelmingly difficult, but it is tedious. There is an arcade mode, and that is moderately satisfying. The graphics are at once better and poorer than Ace Combat-4. The aircraft and some scenery is beautiful; the HUDs aren't as clean and precise, though, as AC-4. I mastered AC-4 so completely that I was hungry for a new game. Aero Elite may get a better rating from me later when I've tried all the different planes, but for now, it's a 7 plus....
| Great Game | | Ryan from OK,USA says (15/Mar/2003): | This game is great maybe even better then Ace Combat 4.60 planes from AV-8Bs,to F-14s,to AH-1 cobra attack choppers.
Lots of missions to recon missions,air-to-air,air-to-ground.And on some missions you have to fly real close to a acraft and take photos of it,and sometimes you have to fire warning shots at it.This game is a lot more real then Ace Combat. For one you dont have 50 missiles,in Aero Elit differnt aircraft hold more or less weapons, one might have 10 missiles and the other might only carry 6,or none! This is a great game, you have to get it.
Peace!
| Like to fly? Get this! | | Bob from Flint, Mi. USA says (15/Mar/2003): | Remember aerowings for dreamcast? Well, this is pretty much the same, only way better. You can fly around doing nothing if you like, or you can get into nasty dogfights with a bunch of real world jets to choose from. They attempt to use helicopters...but I really didn't like it. No problem though, there's a ton of other things to do.
