True Crime is a True Treasure39230

Brad Felizardo from Luanda, Angola says (21/Feb/2004):
  _ Graphics _
I got both GTA3 and GTA Vice City, Getaway and True Crime, and when it comes to graphics i even laugh sometimes. On Vice City the graphics really suck, you all know, c'mon, everybody has a 3d-fish-face and the cars look like toys. On True Crime you'll find real well made hookers, everybody walks well (Vice City hookers are like retards, and every body walk like retards too). The cars are like Getaway ones, they look like real ones, better than the cars from Vice (just 5 kind of cars or something on Vice City? Even that Inferno model is popular! How sad...). The city is big, on the map you can't see all the roads because the city is bigger than that. Some dumb < remove me > at ss scrubs around the internet hate guys like Nick, because they're nothing, guys who are nothin' allways hate guys like that (and what's funny is that guys who are nothing allways think they're somethin'! lol). The city changes from day to night (best night ever! Just look at the asphalt, the lights, etc.), you go to clubs with the best look of a 3D guy ever, and you see the best 3D hookers/girls and cars ever too, etc.

_ Gameplay_
From real tailing simulation to slow-motion matrix like action on streets and indoor places. (I never saw nothing like that, Geatway's and Vice City's tailing is, well, fantasy! Just a blind guy can't see somebody's following him!). And, just to make the game more hot, amazing fighting simulation, just grapples suck, the rest is kool, not perfect, but kool. Master the fighting feature and then you'll start talking good things about it. The guns are the best ever, with slow-mo you can feel how great they are. And don't think True Crime is just that! When you progress and make upgrades you'll earn new features of the game! Like new attack moves, boost, nitro, two-weels riding, flashlights, etc. Some people says the car from True Crime has bad handling! I'm surprised with that because True Crime has many and many cars, and that one isn't the only car of Nick. You can drive from trucks to diablo-like cars, etc. And, if those people think the cars have bad handling i think they are the ones who CAN'T HANDLE the cars, maybe they aren't used to the left-analog stick, so, please, go learn how to manage the left-analog stick and then you can make a review! Some people says the game is short! Well, maybe they just went to one ending, True Crime has 3 endings, the game is big, all of them with different missions, you make different missions to go to other endings, you don't repeat the same missions to see another ending, and, man, those missions are the best ever. You even fight zombies on this game. Some kids can't understand the story, but of course!, you think this is a game of stealing and trading drugs or something? This is a case of a cop, it's complex, some guys who are used to do and learn/watch more simple, useless and banal things can't understand the history.

_ Sounds _
Wonderful voices of well developed characters like thaboss, the guy from FBI, Rose, Nick, i mean, all the guys! They all sound like themselves, they all sound fine, even the people from the streets. And, i guess you won't miss too much the Vice City Radio (the only thing i miss on Vice City) because here we have more than 30 music tracks (i think they are more, much more), kool hip hop that gives to the game an amazing and well balanced style, rock (sooner or later you'll start to feel the rock on the game too), and much more! I love all the sound waves of all the events, and, Snoop Dogg's voices was really a kool thing on the game, playing with him is kool. I love that sound when you knock somebody, kool when it's followed by the word "Sh*t!" from the victim.

_ Lifespawn _
On games like Vice City you're a guy who just goes here and there, a guy without life stealling, etc. But on True Crime you got a life, and you have things to do, you solve many crimes around LA. It's cool, i never get tired of those optional missions, although my Bad/Good cop rating is +99 already, and i already made all upgrades, but i still bust some bad guys. Some people say they are just 4 or something, it's completely wrong, they are more than 20 i think, when you progress through normal missions they add more new optional missions, and guess what? Just one optional mission again and again isn't boring, for example, a street fight, that's good to keep u up when it comes to fight, a street fight may occur any time, and of course, between any citizen! Now come to think of it, is that boring? I don't think so, you may see two b*tches fighting (watch out! The hookers and cel ladies really kick butt on this game), this and that guy fighting because of something, and they may have different reactions. Just the street fight isn't boring, now think about the rest? Chasing a guy who stole an ambulance, i guy who's trying to get that beautiful ferrari like car, he may have a gun or not, may surrender or not, c'mon, these are the situations we allways wanted!
The city is big, very big, and playing with Snoop Dogg is kool too, you can't see all the roads on the map, you'll notice that the city of angels is bigger than you think when you look at the map, and think about those really handsome and kool cars around the town, c'mon, you all know this game is the best, you'll never get tired of this game so, fight to get it!

_ Comparison _
Oh c'mon people, sometimes we need to respect, do you want to compare the beautiful and well made Rose with that 3D-fish-face Mercedes?!?! Just compare that toy-like-Vercetti (with baby punches... lol!) with Nick Kang, a cop with an unique style (just pay attention to how he stands holding one gun. Yes, and he kicks ass, like yours). C'mon, you all know this game is thabest. The only better things on Vice are some complex like buildings, riding bikes (but they are just 4 or something, how poor), and riding boats is a bit cool too, on Getaway the emotions of Mark Hammond are quite well, but he sounds like a retard, a guy with mental problems, and he does have mental problems. Now, i got to make some warnings:

Tommy Vercetti (GTA) - If i see this guy around L.A, he's done and will be busted!!!
Mark Hammond (Getaway) - this poor guy thinks he can destroy the world! Oh... how poor... and just to get his kid back from the guy who killed his wife and now is his boss! Hahaha, but ok, i Nick Kang doesn't need to chase this poor guy, sooner or later he'll die anyway...
Tanner (Driver) - Ha, i'm waiting! You must show to me who's the best cop! You're a pro on this! The last thing i want, to be able to make the last conclusions: Driv3r. PS: Tanner, and don't forget to bring some girls and sweet rides with you!

_ Suggestions _
Activision, you made a great shot, guys like the ones from Rockstar learned a good lesson of how this kind of game should be. But, of course, i hope on the next versions of True Crime, the following comes:
Bikes; More interactive features (we should at last be able to take a walk with those girls with us, in the car); More "complex places" on the city, like places where we can get in, warehouses, etc.(Those drowsy Team Soho guys didn't make that, Free Roam mode sucks, and you should do that then); We should be able to turn off some upgrades, the guns look like toys with those scoops; and Activision should spend more dedication to the additional secret characters, they all sound like Nick, that's really bad, at last Rose should have her own sound waves, etc. And please, don't change the persons, they must be Nick and Rose again, with more cooperation, many freaks, scrubs and losers need to see Nick in action again!

pricly for activision entertainment for us39892

A gamer from who cares, not you says (22/Mar/2004):
Activison actually spends money making the games not just by paying the programs but making the game in general.I'm sure that if it didnt cost so much money to make alot of copy's of the game to sell for them graphics sound music crime entrances to builsdings guns and others and ambluences mroe hopefully i don't know why but ambulence's are fun to drive offa cliffs i did actually find a cliff by the high way hard to get off but if you got enough speed you will go through and make a suicidal attempt and end it unharmed unless ofcourse you dont have a vehicle and jup off then tis instant death.Any ways back to wat i was saying they prolly did have some conferences with the CEO oof the vice city programmer place to get permission to make a game similar maybe im over reacting on that but i am only 15 and its somthing like 4 in the morning not liek you care but yes they spend sometimes millinos on graphics and stuff but if you ask me which im sur eur not they coulda gotten better rock, rap, new hits and let is be able to add our own songs (MAYBE) cause allowing us to ad our on songs would cost them a **** load of money.but then again mixiing ps2 and XBOX together would be a rather itneresting system and it would make millions and graphicscould be enhance 10 times or more the value of it is now but it will never happen probbly and making this game cost activision mguesing about on the verge of any where between $50,000(icluding programmer paychecks)-$1.5 million(with programmer and all the toehrs paychecks) and byall the toher si eman other people not in programmming unit's paychecks its not cheap i go through rading this forum andd am realising the lack of ralisation on the cost of making such an experience enhanced game would cost possibly 5 millino or more to fit all our custiom need sas far as everyday vehicles and not a hummer every block more ambuulences police maybe more crime but also more different crimems to cause a superstars car is most unlikly to get stolen with otu an alarm going off or uit being found out instantly and building wooooo we need more building access no building to inter is just kinda lame wats the point if you can't go in a building and be a bad cop by shooting every 1.unles u wanna eb a good cop but im not liek thta im all for runnin over epdestrians and as for cheats the needs to be an inf health cheat without game shark so you dont ahve to keep buying new 1s!to be honest if i ahd the money id sned it to them to make an advanced game such as all of your personal needsor they shoudl just have you call and customly order it so they caan ptu int he game what you want!gettting it may take months or even yrs but fi its wat ur looknig for **** its well worth the wait! But im tired and and hugnry so ima go eat and i hope this review heps some people to understand that its not cheap to make an advancly realistic game!where you can walk in a building and say get down or im gunna blow all your ****ing heads off. if you know what i mean (-_-) anyways goodluck on ur future in advanced game systems ect.

True Crime a Great Game?36600

Brett from B.C Canada says (5/Dec/2003):
I recently bought true crime for the ps 2 and was pretty pumped until I got home. For the first half an hour I resisted the urge to return the game because I thought the driving control was lame and the game was frustrating at first. But after playing for about an hour and a half I was hooked. The graphics are great(Though I prefer the graphics in vice city, it just has a better style.) The gameplay is easy to pick up and the idea of upgrading everything from the car you drive, to your martial arts, and you weapons and their abilties. I found True Crime to be the best cop game I have played. The cars are very nice too, You can commandeer(Not actually named in the game of course.)a mustang, honda civic, acura nsx, Dodge trucks, SUV's, buses, random truck veichles, vans and assorted cars. People complain about the selection of cars but I found it comparable to Vice City's number of cars othere than gta's secret cars. As for the game, I like the structure of being a cop. You cant just be crazy running around like a manic trying to kill everything in site.(What cop would?) I don't thin GTA:Vice City and true crime shoul d be compared on the gameplay level. GTA is a crimnal game, the point is to cause mayhem, take over the city and pretty much do any damn thing you want. True Crime is a much different game using the simialar game engine, You are a cop trying to find the anwsers to his fathers death and crack a big case, you have to go around stopping crime and getting to the bottom of the crime. The point of playing each game is much different. If you want a game thats filled with mindless killing, lots of dead innocents(Though True Crime alot of the innocent manage to get in the way, other times they hit you when you are running around and you shoot them in the head for being dumb.) and the general point is being a bad guy play GTA:Vice City. IF you are looking for a game more structered filled with kung-fu, being on the good side of the law, as well as many different playing experiences through the different missions(At one point you end up fighting demons and a dragon! No spoilers.) Than True Crime is the game you need.
The only weaknesses I found with True Crime 1.Is with the music, it's great if you are into alot of hip-hop but thankfully you have the option to edit what songs play in the game. 2. True Crime seems short because once you beat it you are left thristing for more, I got and beat this game the week it came out and I am eagerly awaiting a sequel. Buy it and try not to compare to GTA: Vice City as a comparsion as the games themselves play differently.

Graphics 8.5
Music 7
Gameplay 9
Replayability 10
Control 9 (Once you get used to the driving, It's more realistic than GTA and is hard at first.)
Story 8.5
Satisfation 9 (It leaves you beging for more.)

Crappy38624

chaos effect from in your closet says (27/Jan/2004):
  True Crime: Streets of L.A.

This game is trashy. There's no way around it. Waiting for it to come up was similiar to waiting for a big steak at a resturuant. I thought I knew what I was getting, I was so excited, but then I got it. Going back to the resturaunt thing, finally you see the big steak coming for you. All of a sudden the waited grabs the steak and sticks it straight up his a$$. Now he takes it out and throws it on the table. Thats what it was like when I started playing True Crime. I was expecting GTA where you play as a cop. In a way that was true except THE DAMN COP IS WORSE THAN THE CRIMINALS! Seriously what kind of cop starts randomly shooting civilians? Atleast in GTA you had an excuse, in GTA you're a career criminal. That leads in some way or another to the story. You play as some "loose cannon" cop who was fired for disorderly conduct who spits out cheesy one-liners. I couldn't stand the guy. Just playing as him was annoying. He was so obnoxious. That made it annoying. The whole game is one big cliche. His dad goes missing, son joins LAPD to follow in footsteps and somehow gets wrapped up in something beyond his control that his father was involved in 50 years ago. Maybe things wouldn't have been so bad if the gameplay was actually fun. The driving is messed up. All cars have extremely bad handling. There are also two other parts of this failed hybrid experiment. Next there is hand-to-hand kungfu which is just pointless button-mashing. Then there is gunplay. It's just as $#< remove me > at !ty. There's also no real fun when not on missions (I'm not saying that there was any fun to begin with). When your not on a mission you can answer criminal calls but they're usually one of 5 different scenarios in different locations (Boring). If you would happen to go on a killing spree it wouldn't be that fun, you're a cop. Now graphics. The graphics are really choppy at times. Thats pretty much it. I would say don't even bother putting up the money to rent this trash. I can't believe people like this game.

I say 0/10 and my word is law.

P.S.Vice City is 100% Better, and you better not write back.

Mediocre GTA Clone35915

baugyman from Richmond, VA says (23/Nov/2003):
You people claiming this game is better than Grand Theft Auto need to cut your cereal intake by half.

This game's only really impressive feature is the map. It's MASSIVE, which to me is a good thing, and it's more like a real city than GTA. It has real streets, and the game makes it easy for you by always telling you what street you're on and what the upcoming streets are. The map is easy to use, as is the mini-map that you have on while you drive. I like that you can drive on the highway as well. The map is a pretty accurate depiction of LA. I even used yahoo driving directions to get from one place to another, and it worked! It's just really cool driving around L.A.

The problem is, the game doesn't really take advantage of that at all. The missions are boring and repetitive. They consist of either racing from one point to another, TAILING somebody (really annoying), being chased, fighting hand to hand (boring and easy), or shooting it out. Not one of the missions takes advantage of the LA setting or a big city setting. You could be anywhere. Half the time you're friggin inside anyway. That's another thing - you don't get to go inside a building unless you're in the middle of a mission, unlike Vice City where you can visit malls, mansions, strip clubs, etc.

The story line is like a really, really bad cop movie. It's like they spent twenty minutes coming up with it. Vice City has a fun story which is pretty well put together for a video game. True Crime just doesn't compare.

Finally, it's nowhere near as fun to just roam the city. I enjoyed exploring Beverly Hills and Brentwood and places like that, but it got old fast. Solving crimes is fun for about half an hour. Frisking people and trampling on the civil rights of the game's citizenry is probably the most fun thing you can do in the game, and that's not saying much.

I think the soundtrack works, but if you can't stand hip hop you'll have to keep that mute button handy.

The game just doesn't have the character that the GTA games have. It will be forgotten in two months.

Nothing compared to Grand Theft Auto.36745

Chad641 from Buffalo NY, USA says (8/Dec/2003):
I must admit, I was rather excited when I heard about True Crime, but when I actually played it I found it to be very dissapointing.I'll start with the good. The idea of playing as a police officer certainly helped the game out.I found walking down the street and searching people for guns, drugs etc. to be mildly entertaining. The idea of adding tricked out racing cars was also neat, considering the game takes place in L.A., a city known for street racing. The missions were mediocre, but were very repetitive,(i.e.Too many car chasing missions had me feeling like I was repeating missions).
Now for the bad. One of the first things I noticed was the lack of variety of music, tons of rap and little else had me feeling like they forgot about the people who dont like rap. The gameplay controls were also greatly flawed, the driving was frustrating and aiming could have been simpler. As far as entering buildings, basically nothing, yes there was dojos around the city and the buildings you can enter for missions, but one of the great things about GTA:VC was being able to walk in stores just to cause trouble. Although I didn't play the game until the end I didn't find any motorcycles.
There is a lot of replay value in True Crime, (driving on 2 wheels while shooting out the car behind you can be great fun). The graphics, on par with GTA:VC, although the games developers could have paid a little more attention to detail on cars, but other than that the graphics aren't to shabby. As for the fun factor of the missions I would give it a 6, and as for wreckless killing it gets a 9.
True Crime deserves at least a rental. Being a good guy is definatley a good idea, and the story isn't bad at all. Although people say it shouldn't be compared with GTA, the grand theft auto series has set the bar for all games in the category, and True Crime just doesn't quite meet the standards GTA set.

All round great game!35917

Steven S from England, Bedfordshire says (23/Nov/2003):
Come on, how good is it to have your name on your number plate!
Nice touch that im sure many other games will copy. Shooting the exhausts of cars to make them blow is wicked and the graphics of the explosions are the best ive ever seen in a PS2 game.
Shooting from your car in slow motion is a great touch too. You can actually get some 1 behind you by using a handbrake turn and at the same time shooting in slow motion. Just like Mission Imposible 2 on the motorbike. Aiming for their heads in the cars to kill them instantly, realisticly.
better than GTA slightly. Graphics are great, sound and music is the best it could be. Only problem is its a bit short, but you will be playing it over and over again anyways.
Alot of detail has been taken to name every street you go on, how cool is that?
Shooting criminals in the legs is what gets you a good rating otherwise running them down or shooting them in the head would get you a bad cop rating. But trying each out is good fun. But killing too many innocent people will get you taken down by SWAT teams. So watch your step.
This game is everything of GTA status and more. More meaning kung fu, slow motion diving and shooting, 2 different weapons in each hand, real cars (like a Ferrari F50, Dodge Viper or BMW) nice hand 2 hand combat, cool soundtrack with hiphop and rock tunes and some classics, that will leave you not wanting to get out of your car! Also some great tunes that get you going when you are in some important fights, like N.E.R.D - rockstar and lapdance.
Get this game, dont rent it. It saves you a expensive trip to LA and saves you from going to jail!
True Crime is as true as crime gets!

The true crime is this game alone40189

Kainoa from Honolulu, Hawaii USA says (5/Apr/2004):
I bought the game True Crime cause it's gotten a lot of possitive press on the mapping of entire Los
Angeles. The gameplay is mediocre, the driving sucks, missions are for 4th grade girls, the characters say stupid one liners, gameplay is slow to two factors becuase the game is just
slow and loading takes a year cause of the mass size of data that needs to register, not to mention the autosave which pisses me off, i think activision tried to take their stab at
the Grand Theft Auto genre that Rockstar Games catapulted on their own. The thing that really f***ing pisses me off about this game is.....NO BLOOD!!
Another game that tried to follow in GTA3's steps was the hyped up but all returned, "The Getaway" exploring London's underground syndicates. If everyone will step away and let
Rockstar Games make real games there'd be no consumer confusion. Just cause a game is free roaming, it doesn't make it better than GTA3, cause that set the bar man. One good
thing to say about True Crime is that the character designs are good cause of excelent pixelation i also commend Acclaim w/ digitizing Los Angeles, but thas about it. The game controls are difficult and the hand to hand combat is awful and shouldn't be allowed when you can just put a slug or a magazine in my case in somebody. Something that makes this game so flawed is no jump ramps...how are you supposed to have fun w/ your car? If you're wanting to buy this game, DON'T! Read the other reviews as well if you've already done it, it sucks if you get stuck w/ it.

Has nothing new, some great ideas but hideously underdeveloped.38193

(no name given) I wonder why? from Exeter,England says (12/Jan/2004):
The game was a great disapointment to me,and the only ps2 game I have ever considered pretending its faulty for a refund. The scenery and graphics in general are fantastic but these don't make up for the poor, unvaried fighting, shooting and driving sequences which are tiresome and seem rushed.Street crimes and good/bad cop ratings seem a good idea at first but this feeling doesnt last as they dont really result in anything but a slightly different ending that doesnt seem worth sacrificing my time for and Im a dedicated completist. The story and characters are cliche and will only appeal to fans of van-dam films(only the stupid fans)Plus the fact the main character is a $#< remove me > at !y,selfish and arrogant bi-product of all those oh so terribly written action flicks.
Im not a big hip-hop fan but the soundtrack works very well and adds to the game.
The lifespan of the game, 7 levels and practically no difficulty (apart from the odd accendental moment on the part of the makers)will last a casual gamer a few hours and is the nail in this particularly well furnished coffin.Overall the makers have not chosen their priorities correctly choosing graphics and map design over gameplay, story and some interesting but underdeveloped ideas, but don't get me wrong the game is above average, but when youve played the likes of GTA and the getaway, even as far back as the driver series you expect a hell of alot more,Ultimatly True crime streets of LA leaves me wondering what could have been.

one awsome game, coming from a non- hip-hop guy!36700

anthony from louisville, ky says (7/Dec/2003):
I thought the game was a almost 10. Every thing about the game is cool, even if you dislike rap. It was shockingly kinda like GTAvc, but with a good twist. The fighting moves were impressive
comparing it to GTA'S. The only bad note I can say is that the game is to short. I did waste money renting it.....twice. I say it needs a part2. why not? IT IS A VERY COOL GAME. MABEY THEY COULD USE A LITTLE MORE ROCK MUSIC IN THE SEQUEL. BUY THIS GAME, WHEN IT GETS TO OLD, TRADE A FRIEND. The trade-in stores only give two dollars for it, but yet they resell it for $34.99.
They say,"try to be a good cop for a better ending!" It's not to easy when you try to stop two grand-ma's from fighting and Mr. Weiner RUNS YOU OVER IN A DODGE TRUCK AND AFTER YOU GET UP, OLD Mrs. doubtfire pull out a shotgun and BOOM! Thats cool, when you can get shot dead before you get a chance to pull out your guns. (THAT'S REALISTIC) The gang fight shoot outs is a plus, but be sure you dont hit any swat guys. I LOVE THIS GAME. And who better to narrate the story? christopher walken. The game is worth every penny. I hope no GTA fans go without atleast playing it. If they throw negative things at it before good, knock them out and steel thier car. Even the corney humor that the people say and do is funny. i give it a almost 10 ranking. if it were only longer!!! part 2 must be born, not in 2005 either, NOW!!!!!!!! OR GRAND THEFT AUTO WILL!! WELL THAT WOULD BE A BIG PLUS TOO.....

One of the coolest games ever!37842

michaela from tuscaloosa, alabama USA says (3/Jan/2004):
I love playing this game!At first when i saw my friend playing it, i said it looked pretty boring to me, but when i played it, i couldn't get off it.I spent hours playing it.
All the missions were okay. Some were too easy.My favorite missions would be the drive to missions, because i like driving around and running over people.Frisking people took a lot of time and even though it gives you good cop points,it takes time because half the people don't have nothing.
At first i didn't know how to do much and fail some missions, but i passed them.Tailing missions, there was one, that took me longer then others.
I love all the driving maneuvers.I do a lot.I had a lot of fun driving in the game.
I would consider buying this game for someone would likes to have some fun and just to do something.I mean, you can run over people and jump hills,blow-up cars and the graphics are okay, but could be better.
There should of been more missions and episodes. If they made a second game,i am going to try it.More games like this should be made, and being a cop is cool,i am a good cop on one game and a bad on the other, and being chase by the cops is one thing i don't like, because i lost them easily. Also something i didn't like is there were places you couldn't go to.
Too short, but it was great and hopefully them make a second one!If they do,hopefully it will be better.
I still can't decide if it is better then gta:vc.

Worst $69 I ever spent36870

Super Gaijin from Charlottetown, PEI says (12/Dec/2003):
I could've bought myself a carton of smokes and killed myself with lung cancer and it would've been more entertaining than True Crime: Streets Of LA.

Like, what the hell were they thinking? Well, I suppose the question should be "Were they thinking at all?".

The driving physics are reminiscent of pushing a dinky car around with a popsicle stick, the fighting is some of the worst yet (Final fight had a better fight engine), and the shooting was....well....mediocre.

The only thing I enjoyed was cruising around, putting the game in bullet time while I aim, and then shoot out some tires and the gas tank sometimes on innocent drivers. The missions were horridly simple and one-dimensional and the game was WAY too short.

If I hadn't have spent the last of my paycheque that week on it, then I would've snapped the CD in half and smashed the case viciously with a frozen aluminum baseball bat. Then I would've walked over to the designer's office and repeated the process on his face.

Unfortunately, I had to sell it back off to save at least some money. Now someone else gets the chance to either prove their stupidity by liking it (which the guy at Microplay did quite well to my face) or they get the pleasure of smashing it.

It's a vile, disgusting, pile of crap that should never have been conceived and only a complete tool would like it.

Case closed!

Awesome!39870

Roy from New York City says (21/Mar/2004):
True Crime is a great game. The graphics are ok. The controls may take a little while to use. The sound all right. The fun factor is through the roof. It may be similar to Vice City but there are major differences. For example, you're a cop, not a criminal. The branching story lines and alternate missions are good. The final battles are tough if you haven't gone to dojos to improve your skills. There are also driving courses and shooting ranges to get new guns and vehicles. The shooting in the game is great. You can search people on the streets for guns or illegal weapons then slap cuffs on them if they do. You can blow up cars by shooting at the gas tank. Be careful that you don't kill to many innocent people or the SWAT team will take you out. The city is huge! you can see several land marks through LA in the game. The stealth missions are one of the best. You can knock them out with a judo chop or you can break their neck. You also have a tranquilizer but it only has three rounds. If you have gun certain upgrades the precision aim mode will let you see if your aiming for a lethal (to the head) or non lethal shot (to the limbs). It also works for cars. The lethal shot is the gas tank and the non lethal shot is the tires. Adding special features to your gun like a laser sight and flashlight will come in handy. A very well done game and one of my favorites.

What else could you want in a game38762

Terrence Anderson from Los Angeles, California says (1/Feb/2004):
this game is clearly one of the best games ever made and the people thought that this games sucks, clearly they must be a bunch of nerds who break down games to the every single frame. You idiot are dumb, this game gives you the opportunity to be a good cop, or just a criminal impersonating a cop doing the city bad. Dont get me wrong GTA: VC is one of the best games ever made, i must say this game rivals it and gives Rockstar some compition. Mind you this is Activisions first try at a game like this. Remember GTA 1. what a piece of crap that was, and GTA 2, that was horse crap too. So give Activision another chance in approving though they only have a little to work with. The graphics were great, the environment was great (all the real streets in LA done perfectly, i live in la i would know), the reality of the game is perfect for gameplay, the weapon selection is good, but can improve. The action moves that you can pull are great and the overall quality of the game is stupendous. though what i feel needs to be improved: music (i am a rap fan, but i feel they can improve on diversity for everyone), length of game, variety of missions and street crimes, and even more weapon selection. Little but Activision on its FIRST try has built on of the greatest games made and lives up to it advertisement. A percect TEN, and im sticking with it.

Good.... In it's own right39195

Jason X from Wolverhampton, England says (20/Feb/2004):
So.. Tre Crime is finally here. All the speculation and hype that it was going to be a GTA beater, and in the end we're ll dissapointed again. But to be honest, True Crime ain't that bad a game. It has got its faws and in some ways seems a little rushed but it's still fun. However, let's get one thing straight. True Crime is no-where near as good as GTA 3 or Vice City in fact they are not in the same league. I don't see why every time a new game comes out with it's own radio station or a learge range of guns is suddenly trying to better the greatest PS2 on earth. Lets face it. Rockstar are probably the only one's who can better they're beautiful creation and even for them it will be some task. I think that with Activision's new baby they are just trying to give the gaming public more fun along the lines of GTA. All i'm trying to say is don't go into this game expecting it to be the new and improved GTA. You wn't enjoy it ifyou do. It has it's flaws but overall it is great fun so give it a go. I would rent it first though and if you enjoy it you should shell out 40 quid and I am preety sure you will get your moneys worth. AQfterall, any gae that lets you play as Snoop Dogg and has the voice of Christopher Walken in it has got to be fun.

Great Fun, But it Could Have Been Much Better35882

Graeme from Perth, Australia says (23/Nov/2003):
True Crime the streets of LA is the best Driving Action Adventure game on any console. It is much better than the GTA and The Getaway games as it is set in a massive real life city and the fighting and shooting missions are second to none. The graphics are top notch and the city itself has been very well created. In saying this I was very dissapointed with the driving
segments as there are not enough cars either on the roads or to drive and the controls are terrible. This game could have been a
whole lot better than it is but it is still great fun and a good
game. I was also upset by the fact that there were no real businesses in the game and I would have liked to have at least seen a McDonalds or a KFC store on the LA streets as they are American icons. The game also appears to be un finished and the constant slow down whilst driving is very frustrating and in some parts of the city their are terrible glitches. All in all I
think this is a good game go out and buy it but it wasn't as great as I was expecting it to be. The Snoop Dog mission at the completion of the game is great fun but I think that Driver 3 is
the game that everyone should be waiting for, I think and hope that it will be awesome.

Exactly How They Describe It On the Commercial38877

Paully Morriardi from (Woodside)Queens,New York says (7/Feb/2004):
Man Is this a fun game. I thought this would be better than GTA Vice City, and sure enough it delivered.Alright so your a cop in L.A (By the way this game looks and feels like L.A.)You have to go on missions which you dont even half to do.Your the good guy which I think its more fun to bust people with guns and illegal drugs than be a criminal which can get boring. The physics were great. The car wrecks are more real than on GTA VC.The cars are all fast and off the hook. There is so many different parts of L.A. that I don't even no the first one.To get around quick you can get on a highway which is my favorite part of the game.Your guy is half chineese and half itallian and you gotta do a whole case wich your trying to solve wich is dealing with the triads. The fighting system is off the hook in this game.nothing is bad about this game at all.I just hope next year they will make True Crime Streets of NYC,(Brooklyn,Queens,Man Hattan as they down south) or where ever. Besides if they make it in New York it will be better because there could be the Mafia and big riot fights between Purte Ricans and Blacks.Heck theres even Chineese in New York.Anyways hope this helps,"Paully"(King of Queens)

Not bad, but it's no Grand Theft Auto38902

Jeff C. from Grand Island, USA says (8/Feb/2004):
I was initially impressed with the game. It reminded me a lot of the Grand Theft Auto games and looked a lot like them as well.
I liked the idea in the driving missions of not having to get to your destination right away. You can drive around town for the next 12 hours if you wanted to, busting people, solving random crimes, or going to one of the 24/7 upgrade sites to up your weapons, fighting skills, or driving skills. The other thing about this game that is better than the GTA games is that there is more hand to hand fighting, plus stealth missions where you have to sneak into places without being seen. Very cool!
Also, the city is a lot more massive. This , unfortunately, is a double-edged sword. You get a lot more city, but it seems, a lot less intimate space.(ex. I was trying to run behind houses and buildings only to find out there is no way back there!!) GTA games in my mind are still a bit better , because of the extra missions which are a lot more fun than this game. And the main thing that still keeps GTA on top over True Crime is the freedom to do missions in a more random order. True Crime has too much of a linear story line. Rating: 8 out of 10

gc fans finally get a gta like game38902

Rob from Northport n.y. says (15/Nov/2003):
this game is by far the best game i ever played.and the first realistic gta like game to come out for gc.gc single platform owners now what i am talking about we had to drool over our friends with ps2's gta3 and gta vice city . now we have our own finally, the wait was well worth it, the gamplay and graphics are awsome.there is a great variety of cars and guns. it also has an awsome sound track including snoop dog jay z and 50 cent.the streets of la are very accurate to the actual streets in la.streets of la really combines fighting and action both with fire fights and hand to hand combat.one of the best things about this game is that you can cruise around and aresst hookers fighting thugs serial killers bank robbers.the only thing i wasnt satisfied was the controll lay out on gc everything else was amazing.the graphics by far rae more realistic than any game in the gta series.nick's expressions are more kick ass also and cursing is more present than in all gtas .well well congradulations gc owners we have graduated pre school .all i can say about this game is yippeee . hopefully we will see more games like this on gc soon

True Crime Streets of LA39277

Dean Wood from Newcastle Upon Tyne says (22/Feb/2004):
This game is da $#< remove me > at !!!!!
The graphics are class the theme is mint cars are great and the guns nothing needs to be said about these.
All of the missions are good except from those $#< remove me > at !ty tailing missions, the fighting shooting and chasing missions are well above average.
This game is a great game but there is just one thing wrong with it, its far too easy i got it for christmas and by january 28th i had done all endings got all upgrades(eg cars, guns and grapples) without using one single cheat or tip.
I still love the game but that just annoyed me very much, how there was no point playing on it anymore.
All of the endings are stupid the best one being the poor when you lose to the general and fall off the helipad. The good ending is okay after you fight the general for the second time and win as he speeds off in a sporty car after nearly knocking out the FBI boss.
The graphics on this game are brilliant, at first i thought it was made by the same company who made the getaway (another class game) as they are both that realistic.

P.S Love the bonus movie that FBI gadgie can bust a move when he wants to.
