Crappy | | chaos effect from in your closet says (27/Jan/2004): | True Crime: Streets of L.A.
This game is trashy. There's no way around it. Waiting for it to come up was similiar to waiting for a big steak at a resturuant. I thought I knew what I was getting, I was so excited, but then I got it. Going back to the resturaunt thing, finally you see the big steak coming for you. All of a sudden the waited grabs the steak and sticks it straight up his a$$. Now he takes it out and throws it on the table. Thats what it was like when I started playing True Crime. I was expecting GTA where you play as a cop. In a way that was true except THE DAMN COP IS WORSE THAN THE CRIMINALS! Seriously what kind of cop starts randomly shooting civilians? Atleast in GTA you had an excuse, in GTA you're a career criminal. That leads in some way or another to the story. You play as some "loose cannon" cop who was fired for disorderly conduct who spits out cheesy one-liners. I couldn't stand the guy. Just playing as him was annoying. He was so obnoxious. That made it annoying. The whole game is one big cliche. His dad goes missing, son joins LAPD to follow in footsteps and somehow gets wrapped up in something beyond his control that his father was involved in 50 years ago. Maybe things wouldn't have been so bad if the gameplay was actually fun. The driving is messed up. All cars have extremely bad handling. There are also two other parts of this failed hybrid experiment. Next there is hand-to-hand kungfu which is just pointless button-mashing. Then there is gunplay. It's just as $#< remove me > at !ty. There's also no real fun when not on missions (I'm not saying that there was any fun to begin with). When your not on a mission you can answer criminal calls but they're usually one of 5 different scenarios in different locations (Boring). If you would happen to go on a killing spree it wouldn't be that fun, you're a cop. Now graphics. The graphics are really choppy at times. Thats pretty much it. I would say don't even bother putting up the money to rent this trash. I can't believe people like this game.
I say 0/10 and my word is law.
P.S.Vice City is 100% Better, and you better not write back.
| tight @ss game | | Matt from New jersey, usa says (25/Jan/2004): | true crime is awsome, its a good game becuase its not like GTA vice city all games are like that so it cool to have something different.i defenetly think its worth buying. some peolpe dont like it cuz they think gta is the greatest, vice city is a good game but again its cool to have something diferent. the cars are better in true crime the graphecs are better then most games. who ever dont like it suck a huge hairy $#< remove me > at !!..its the coolest game ive played beside vice city. if you dont have it you defenetly should buy it. when i first bought it i didnt like it then i got used to it and now i think it is the coolest game.
| It's okay... | | Erin from Southern Cal. says (20/Jan/2004): | When I first saw True Crime: Streets of LA on TV, I was thinkin "Omg..that looks awesome!" Well, turns out it's not as good as they make it look. Streets of LA seems to be like Vice City or other games along those lines, but it's not at all. The game was way too short, I beat it in a day. (And if you're a 'good cop', it doesn't really matter...you only get like 3 missions added.) Playing it over and over gets old after a while, since you have the same few missions. Anyways, on a more positive note, the game is okay because of the good graphics, story-line...and honestly, I think Nick is pretty cool!
| Has nothing new, some great ideas but hideously underdeveloped. | | (no name given) I wonder why? from Exeter,England says (12/Jan/2004): | The game was a great disapointment to me,and the only ps2 game I have ever considered pretending its faulty for a refund. The scenery and graphics in general are fantastic but these don't make up for the poor, unvaried fighting, shooting and driving sequences which are tiresome and seem rushed.Street crimes and good/bad cop ratings seem a good idea at first but this feeling doesnt last as they dont really result in anything but a slightly different ending that doesnt seem worth sacrificing my time for and Im a dedicated completist. The story and characters are cliche and will only appeal to fans of van-dam films(only the stupid fans)Plus the fact the main character is a $#< remove me > at !y,selfish and arrogant bi-product of all those oh so terribly written action flicks.
Im not a big hip-hop fan but the soundtrack works very well and adds to the game.
The lifespan of the game, 7 levels and practically no difficulty (apart from the odd accendental moment on the part of the makers)will last a casual gamer a few hours and is the nail in this particularly well furnished coffin.Overall the makers have not chosen their priorities correctly choosing graphics and map design over gameplay, story and some interesting but underdeveloped ideas, but don't get me wrong the game is above average, but when youve played the likes of GTA and the getaway, even as far back as the driver series you expect a hell of alot more,Ultimatly True crime streets of LA leaves me wondering what could have been.
| Not as good as vice city!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Liam Knight from Liverpool (England) says (6/Jan/2004): | i only brought the game 2 day so fare it is gd but the missions arnt as gd as GTA. the way u drive isnt as gd either an the cars some of them look rubbish. but overall it is a gd game but isnt worth the money.
some ppl say it is 2 short hopefully it isnt cause if i complete in tha nxt few days im takin it bck.
since i only got it 2 day i think it boss!!!!!!! but wat i hav read from a few of these reviews it aint up 2 vice city standards
| One of the coolest games ever! | | michaela from tuscaloosa, alabama USA says (3/Jan/2004): | I love playing this game!At first when i saw my friend playing it, i said it looked pretty boring to me, but when i played it, i couldn't get off it.I spent hours playing it.
All the missions were okay. Some were too easy.My favorite missions would be the drive to missions, because i like driving around and running over people.Frisking people took a lot of time and even though it gives you good cop points,it takes time because half the people don't have nothing.
At first i didn't know how to do much and fail some missions, but i passed them.Tailing missions, there was one, that took me longer then others.
I love all the driving maneuvers.I do a lot.I had a lot of fun driving in the game.
I would consider buying this game for someone would likes to have some fun and just to do something.I mean, you can run over people and jump hills,blow-up cars and the graphics are okay, but could be better.
There should of been more missions and episodes. If they made a second game,i am going to try it.More games like this should be made, and being a cop is cool,i am a good cop on one game and a bad on the other, and being chase by the cops is one thing i don't like, because i lost them easily. Also something i didn't like is there were places you couldn't go to.
Too short, but it was great and hopefully them make a second one!If they do,hopefully it will be better.
I still can't decide if it is better then gta:vc.
| yeah! Dis Game Was F****n' Phat!!! | | michael wood (woody) from essex says (3/Jan/2004): | hi. im michael wood from essex. some of my mates told me about the game bfore crimbo, and they described it as an action packed thriller of a game. So... I asked my wonderful mumsie and daddykins to provide me with this hero of a shootemup. they did and F****n' Hell! its F****** good! better than vice city, james bond, and splinter cell. the best part is when youre in a car chasing some wanker in an ambulance called the $#< remove me > at !in vampire of hollywood or somfing and you pump a dozen shots of lead up his fuel tank and blow the mutha fukka into hell! neway hi 2 neone at deanes school, and specialy to ne one in year 10, and good luck in the language mock exams!
| GTA has nothing on this ! | | Hazilo from London, England says (3/Jan/2004): | When i first heard of the True Crime Streets of LA, i thought it would just be another Grand Theft Auto wannabe.
But infact just being a police officer makes it very different from GTA. I had been waiting for the police officer game to arrive, and here it is! There are so many games out there today which are all the same..GTA, The Getaway etc.
the graphics are probably the biggest downfall of the game, because there have been many times when i am speeding around in my car, then suddenly find myself on the other side of a brickwall and i cant get out. The game is great fun to play, because when you get all the upgrades just go on a rampage with 2 desert eagles (laser sighted) and a bling Lambo Diablo.
Overall the game is a mix between Max Payne, GTA , The Need For Speed, and any other top game you can think of out now!
(using cheats makes the game a bit too easy)
My favourite part of the game, is the good cop bad cop idea, it is a nice touch...
So this is a definite for all gamers out there hip-hop fans and nerds, skaters, and people who like to wear pink dresses! 10/10
| ok but not that great. | | Louis Bonin from Pheonix, Arizona USA says (1/Jan/2004): | The game was all right I didnt mind beating it but it was way to short. It isnt that fun after beating it either because theres nothing much to do only cruising and doing the really easy missions. I like the slowmo its awsome and the weapons but there wasnt enough ammo when you pick one up and then you have your own little pistole that has infinite ammo but I prefer a AK or two MP3 or something. I also think that the LA is to big I like it small but not that small enough so I can memorize the place like I could with gta.
| Awsome, but could of been better. | | vinny roberto from New york[city] America says (29/Dec/2003): | I think this game was pretty cool! But it could of been better, because it was way to short, could only stock up on two guns at a time, and you couldnt start the game out on the streets, and save your favorite car in a garage.but all in all the fighting was cool, the guns rocked cus you culd use an ak-47 and a uzi at the same time, cars were ok,and it was preety cool that you could search a person for drugs or illegal wepons and arrest them for having them, and get credit.so I think the game is awsome but, not one of the best.
| true crime trust me its phat | | Nick Kang from Usa, La says (29/Dec/2003): | for everyone whos moaning about it being too short think again, thats what i thought at first but...... if you go in the -1 and below on the good cop bad cop/ying and yang bit you only have 5 episodes to complete but if u dnt shoot the criminals unless there shooting st you then your get +1 good cop and you get 8-10 episodes so there it aint short its just ur nod good enuff! theres 3 different endings to the game so apart from it being vice city, gran turismo, max payne and matrix all in 1 its 3 games on top of that its up 2 how good u r as a gameplayer this game deserve respect so deliver it. nick kang, E.O.D p.s "i told you my kung-fu was better didn't i?!"
| Possibly The WORST Game I've Ever Played.... | | Brendee from Houston,Texas says (29/Dec/2003): | My gooodness.....you would think by the way it looks on TV that this game would actully be fun....heheh they sure did trick us! This was the lamest game i have EVER played, i am sad to say. True Crimes:Streets of LA has nothing on all the GTAs and Vice City. Honestly, did they think they could compete? Well i have to give SOME credit....the graphics were good and on a scale of 1-10 for fun, id give it a 3. I am a girl, and i beat this game in 2 days. The missions were way too easy and there was just not enough to do. Hopefully, there WONT be a sequel to this piece of crap. Because if there is, I wont be wasting my money on it.
| GREAT GAME...THESE OTHER PEOPLE ARE STUPID!! | | Baby Mark from Springfield MO says (27/Dec/2003): | I think it is a great game, these idiots on here who think otherwise probably are getting their ass kicked in the game, and have no sense of competition. GREAT GAME!! The fighting is cool, the gun selection is good and there is nothing wrong with the driving. The graphics are also better than I expected them to be, and the challenges are just that, a challenge, but not an unreasonable challenge....so far anyway. I really like the assault rifles and machine guns. The cheats help with some of the fighting techniques and guns available, but the rest is up to you.
| playing on the game too much will lead to boredom | | Si from Staffordshire, England says (27/Dec/2003): | True Crime for me looked great. I thought maybe that this game could be like gta 3 yet the other way around. Instead of being a bad guy, you would get the chance to play a cop. Yet when i sat down and actually played it, it is no where near gta 3 one of my favourite games at the moment. It was fairly entertaining gameplay i suppose, yet i got bored quite quickly. In my oppinion they could of spent more time on missions, storline and advanced the gameplay a liitle more. Not a bad game in the end, but not a great one either!
| Worst $69 I ever spent | | Super Gaijin from Charlottetown, PEI says (12/Dec/2003): | I could've bought myself a carton of smokes and killed myself with lung cancer and it would've been more entertaining than True Crime: Streets Of LA.
Like, what the hell were they thinking? Well, I suppose the question should be "Were they thinking at all?".
The driving physics are reminiscent of pushing a dinky car around with a popsicle stick, the fighting is some of the worst yet (Final fight had a better fight engine), and the shooting was....well....mediocre.
The only thing I enjoyed was cruising around, putting the game in bullet time while I aim, and then shoot out some tires and the gas tank sometimes on innocent drivers. The missions were horridly simple and one-dimensional and the game was WAY too short.
If I hadn't have spent the last of my paycheque that week on it, then I would've snapped the CD in half and smashed the case viciously with a frozen aluminum baseball bat. Then I would've walked over to the designer's office and repeated the process on his face.
Unfortunately, I had to sell it back off to save at least some money. Now someone else gets the chance to either prove their stupidity by liking it (which the guy at Microplay did quite well to my face) or they get the pleasure of smashing it.
It's a vile, disgusting, pile of crap that should never have been conceived and only a complete tool would like it.
Case closed!
| houston we have a problem, a new generation of game has landed! | | Michael Burridge from england, pooole (dorset) says (12/Dec/2003): | this game is the greatest! i enjoy the cruisin the most, i spent the last 10 days just cruisin an havin fun!. it is a summary of:
getaway: the missions and area graphics.
grand theft auto: for the weapons.
matrix: for the fightin moves.
gran turismo: for the cars.
by far i agree with my good friend ziad alazhar and say this game is the greatest!
it is really the best! everyone who likes unprovoked violence then spend spend spend and buy buy buy! and dont forget 2 buy! and by the way, any one who doesnt like it can give the game to me and i will happily supply it to a loving game lover!
| This game is F***in great | | Ecsurfer from Wilmington N.C U.S says (9/Dec/2003): | This is my favorite game for my gamecube, the cars are great and all of the gun and fighting upgrades are cool, i like the slo-mo bullet time, kinda like max payne, and most of the missions are pretty fun, one of my only problems is the soundtrack, its not very long and there is not much variety, i dont think that it is fair to compare this game to vice city, but u can compare it to gta3, i like the graphics, but i wish u could go into buildings, and, i like the gameplay, b/c the idea of being on the other side of the law is a nice change from all of the gta games, that also makes the game CONCEPT original, the game itself is not that original, the game is definitly fun, and it is definitly worth renting if not buying, the dual 50. cal handguns will f anyone up. I like the driving aspect, because it is like a sick crazy taxi, u can hit people and do drive-by's and if u get in enough wrecks u will either die or your car will die,but if u like a good, solid 3rd person shooter and if u liked GTA3 then u should look into this game
| Nothing compared to Grand Theft Auto. | | Chad641 from Buffalo NY, USA says (8/Dec/2003): | I must admit, I was rather excited when I heard about True Crime, but when I actually played it I found it to be very dissapointing.I'll start with the good. The idea of playing as a police officer certainly helped the game out.I found walking down the street and searching people for guns, drugs etc. to be mildly entertaining. The idea of adding tricked out racing cars was also neat, considering the game takes place in L.A., a city known for street racing. The missions were mediocre, but were very repetitive,(i.e.Too many car chasing missions had me feeling like I was repeating missions).
Now for the bad. One of the first things I noticed was the lack of variety of music, tons of rap and little else had me feeling like they forgot about the people who dont like rap. The gameplay controls were also greatly flawed, the driving was frustrating and aiming could have been simpler. As far as entering buildings, basically nothing, yes there was dojos around the city and the buildings you can enter for missions, but one of the great things about GTA:VC was being able to walk in stores just to cause trouble. Although I didn't play the game until the end I didn't find any motorcycles.
There is a lot of replay value in True Crime, (driving on 2 wheels while shooting out the car behind you can be great fun). The graphics, on par with GTA:VC, although the games developers could have paid a little more attention to detail on cars, but other than that the graphics aren't to shabby. As for the fun factor of the missions I would give it a 6, and as for wreckless killing it gets a 9.
True Crime deserves at least a rental. Being a good guy is definatley a good idea, and the story isn't bad at all. Although people say it shouldn't be compared with GTA, the grand theft auto series has set the bar for all games in the category, and True Crime just doesn't quite meet the standards GTA set.
| one awsome game, coming from a non- hip-hop guy! | | anthony from louisville, ky says (7/Dec/2003): | I thought the game was a almost 10. Every thing about the game is cool, even if you dislike rap. It was shockingly kinda like GTAvc, but with a good twist. The fighting moves were impressive
comparing it to GTA'S. The only bad note I can say is that the game is to short. I did waste money renting it.....twice. I say it needs a part2. why not? IT IS A VERY COOL GAME. MABEY THEY COULD USE A LITTLE MORE ROCK MUSIC IN THE SEQUEL. BUY THIS GAME, WHEN IT GETS TO OLD, TRADE A FRIEND. The trade-in stores only give two dollars for it, but yet they resell it for $34.99.
They say,"try to be a good cop for a better ending!" It's not to easy when you try to stop two grand-ma's from fighting and Mr. Weiner RUNS YOU OVER IN A DODGE TRUCK AND AFTER YOU GET UP, OLD Mrs. doubtfire pull out a shotgun and BOOM! Thats cool, when you can get shot dead before you get a chance to pull out your guns. (THAT'S REALISTIC) The gang fight shoot outs is a plus, but be sure you dont hit any swat guys. I LOVE THIS GAME. And who better to narrate the story? christopher walken. The game is worth every penny. I hope no GTA fans go without atleast playing it. If they throw negative things at it before good, knock them out and steel thier car. Even the corney humor that the people say and do is funny. i give it a almost 10 ranking. if it were only longer!!! part 2 must be born, not in 2005 either, NOW!!!!!!!! OR GRAND THEFT AUTO WILL!! WELL THAT WOULD BE A BIG PLUS TOO.....
| vice city, getaway, matrix, grand turismo all in 1! wot more do u want | | Ziad Alazhar from England,Bournemouth(Southbourne) says (6/Dec/2003): | Any body out there looking for a good game to get, dont get this one because it isnt good......its AMAZING!You can upgrade wepons, moves and even your own car!
matrix:the slow-mo shooting moves
vice city:effects (true crime effects are better though!)
getaway:story line
grand turismo:cars
you play as nick kang, a suspended police cop but then the L.A chief decides to bring you back as E.O.D agent.
the only way to realy get into the game is by buying it! so many of my mates have rented it and disliked it, but once i finnaly got them to buy it they LOVED IT!
