GTA has nothing on this !37878

Hazilo from London, England says (3/Jan/2004):
When i first heard of the True Crime Streets of LA, i thought it would just be another Grand Theft Auto wannabe.
But infact just being a police officer makes it very different from GTA. I had been waiting for the police officer game to arrive, and here it is! There are so many games out there today which are all the same..GTA, The Getaway etc.
the graphics are probably the biggest downfall of the game, because there have been many times when i am speeding around in my car, then suddenly find myself on the other side of a brickwall and i cant get out. The game is great fun to play, because when you get all the upgrades just go on a rampage with 2 desert eagles (laser sighted) and a bling Lambo Diablo.
Overall the game is a mix between Max Payne, GTA , The Need For Speed, and any other top game you can think of out now!
(using cheats makes the game a bit too easy)
My favourite part of the game, is the good cop bad cop idea, it is a nice touch...
So this is a definite for all gamers out there hip-hop fans and nerds, skaters, and people who like to wear pink dresses! 10/10

Great Game Play!!32163

Justin C. from Los Angeles, Ca says (20/Sep/2003):
One of the best games iv'e ever played!!! I got the demo in my Playstation underground magazine. the demo gives you a taste in what the game will be like. If you live in L.A. or know something about Los Angeles then you will get the scenery such as Pershing Square and Union station. Graphics are amazing and I have already reserved my copy with the free bonus DVD. The game is equivilent to the Grand theft Auto series and has that same sort of feel to it. Grand Theft Auto just dosen't compare to this game in size really. I mean Los Angeles is a reall hard city to make. Let alone Downtown Los Angeles. Im am not sure if there is public transit but every time you pass a street by you will see the street name displayed on the top of the screen. The street you are on will appear grayish under the cross-street. I am a very "hardcore" gamer i put in seven plus hours of gameplay each day with other friends,i hate the word hardcore!!! Anyway reserve you copy now this game will sell fast. Grat graphics and the gameplay is really nice. check it Out!

This game is F***in great36786

Ecsurfer from Wilmington N.C U.S says (9/Dec/2003):
This is my favorite game for my gamecube, the cars are great and all of the gun and fighting upgrades are cool, i like the slo-mo bullet time, kinda like max payne, and most of the missions are pretty fun, one of my only problems is the soundtrack, its not very long and there is not much variety, i dont think that it is fair to compare this game to vice city, but u can compare it to gta3, i like the graphics, but i wish u could go into buildings, and, i like the gameplay, b/c the idea of being on the other side of the law is a nice change from all of the gta games, that also makes the game CONCEPT original, the game itself is not that original, the game is definitly fun, and it is definitly worth renting if not buying, the dual 50. cal handguns will f anyone up. I like the driving aspect, because it is like a sick crazy taxi, u can hit people and do drive-by's and if u get in enough wrecks u will either die or your car will die,but if u like a good, solid 3rd person shooter and if u liked GTA3 then u should look into this game

GTA, Driver, The Getaway and Max Payne rolled into one. What more can i Say35973

Ozzie 69 from Manchester, England says (24/Nov/2003):
On the whole this game is the best around at the moment. It Manages to blend the best bits from GTA Vice City, Driver, The Getaway and Great Slo-Mo Shots Taken Max Payne. The map on the game is massive compared to that on Vice city with all of Los Angeles to Explore. The action in the game is second to none with great gunplay mixed with good hand to hand combat that takes this game to another level compared with GTA. The only real let downs on the game are the driving controls wich can be frustrating at times and yourGood Cop/Bad Cop rating which goes down for every civilian killed leading to poor mission endings if you don't get it back up again. With the various dojos situated around LA that allow you to upgrade your fighting, guns or driving ability + cars there is enough here to keep you playing. With Drug Dealers, Murderers, Car Jackers And prostitutes to bust when your not doing one of the main missions you'll have plenty of fun playing this game so go Buy It!

I agree with chaos effect and SEXPISTOLS41032

ßandit Keith from America says (26/May/2004):
this game is so weak that people sit around on forums and talk about the really cool game "enhancing" glitches that plague this steaming pile of.... a game. Don't bother here, instead pick up the GTA3/Vice City bundle for the new low price, if you already have it and are looking for something new/ similar, LOOK ELSEWHERE, all of the people who I know personaly who spent their hard earn cash on this game were... miffed to say the least. If you insist on checking it out yourself, TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!! In conclusion, I would rather stab needles in my eyes for an hour than to play 5 min. of this game. Oh look, they added vigilante in this game!!! Wow, thats going to change alot of the game isn't it??!? NOT. And I hate how these asses say that the game is "sweet" or "cool", well there're wrong, the game sucks, and you can't control the cars, they are probabley computer crack/warez pirates.

This game is a lump of $#< remove me > at !

WOW get ready34486

Dan from England says (1/Nov/2003):
this game is going to be the BOMB! ove a week untill it comes out and already reserved copies are going through the roof.
This game is a mix betweek GTA and Max Payne with over 250 acres of real LA streets, Anyone who knows a good game will get this it is going to be bigger than any other realistic crime game yet. It has a range of cars from family sedans to huge tricked out street racing cars ( fast and the furious style ), all the streets are real la streets and all the attractions of la will be included, you can cruise around with the top down, the wind blowing and ignore the missions or wait for the missions to be announced on your radio and head off to interfere with the violence. K.O your enemys with kung-fu style moves or just blow the SH1T outta them with some mean-ass guns.
Whatever your taste this game has something for you, SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR...... Go pre-order your copy, i did three weeks ago!

Good Game Too Many Flaws35769

Rosario from New York says (21/Nov/2003):
I thought this game was good, but I think alot of people would agree with me on this review. There are some Flaws in this game that are very annoying and should have been fixed before all the Hype. For instance: When your driving the game stutters. There are way too many Autosaves. There are not enough Cars or Guns to choose from. When you get out of the Car and take care of a Crime
and then get back into your car and drive 2 Blocks then there is another Crime. The one Mission when you had to take care of the 2 guys in the white sports car by losing them, personally I wanted to kill them instead, so when I did the car Blew up and the driver was still in the burning car so I fired some shots and Guess What? He is still sitting in the Burning Car. There were not alot of places to explore, all those buildings and stores and you just can't go in them. Last Thing: The Game is way too SHORT for $50

Very good in a legit Kinda way!!36281

Nezomega (axel_thrust) from Huddersfield UK says (29/Nov/2003):
Finding guns, killin the scum, finishing the mission, and save the day...every action game intended. Well instead if playing the vigilante (GTA), try playing a cop learning new martial arts, new weaponary techniques, and earning new vehicles from street racing!! (and at the same time earn your street cred)
The game is simply brilliant at the start and compiles some gamers thirsts by being able to drug search passers-by, hold up your badge at trouble makers and burn around in a stolen car whilst going into slowmo mode shooting your targets in weaker areas as to obtain your better cop status. Now the game has a twist of story as you get to choose how you make your ending, and also earn your new techniques throughout, to achieve the best ending.

Music - COOOOOOOOL
Graphics - Nearly Flawless
Gameplay - Well written (Very Sleek)
Longevity - Choose ya end

i'd get it!

Very disappointing35273

Alex Kessler from Chicago, USA says (13/Nov/2003):
I was excited to play this game ever since I heard about it last spring. People were saying it was going to be better than GTA3 or GTAVC, but its not even close. The total freedom to wonder the city I was expecting wasn't at all what I had hoped, you do get to roam the city, but you need to be very careful not to lower your good cop rating (if you want to make the game last for more than 2 hours) the gameplay was just about as linear as it can get and there were only about 7 different cars roaming the streets. The missions werent nonlinear at all, and you often progress directly into the next. The "street crimes" were very repititive and the camera views during fights could be very frustrating at times. All in all, this game is just your average shooter, and if you are desperate to play it I suggest renting it because it only took about 4 days to beat it 100%

Bad rip off of GTA35273

Pules from Fort Lauderdale says (5/Nov/2003):
This game is a bad copy of GTA and Dead to Rights. It's like playing the two games at the same time but has none of their good features. The large map is cool but it is way to big. It takes 10 minutes to drive across time. I finished the game in two sitting. That sucks I want to play for weeks like GTA. The soundtrack sucks and your weapon selection is very limited. Who wants to be the good guy? That is a horrible idea!! I want to get bonus points for running over civilians not deducted. It does have some cool features like flashing your badge to get people to surrended and the warning shoot button is cool. The cast of characters is great but wasted. Christopher Walkin should be in it more and Michelle Rodreguiez is no Jenna Jameson. It is a great rental but save your $60 you can do everything it has to offer in the 5 days Blockbuster gives you.

GTA: Still King35047

David from Cleveland, OH, USA says (9/Nov/2003):
I bought into the hype, this was to be the game that ripped GTA out of my system, so I dropped a cool fifty and started gamin.

For a while, I was a believer, even an advocate, readily telephoning those I know to sing the graces of my new found world, but, sadly after just a few short hours, roaming the streets of LA, I was left feeling hopeless, heading back to south FL.

Where did it go wrong? What demons (or fire breathing dragons?) haunt this poor town? Perhaps my camera man was drinkin, or maybe my new magical gun that never runs out of bullets just weighted me down. Perhaps it was the fact that I could not read my map. It was just too big for the small part of LA I needed to see.

Being good wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
Oh well, I guess I just need to stay on my side of the law, so long SO-CAL, my yacht awaits my return.

An inferior GTA clone39557

Matt J from Melbourne, VIC, Australia says (8/Mar/2004):
Although, in its own right, True Crime is a decent game, but it falls way behind GTA: Vice City. It's humour is just not funny, its gameplay is not as fun and it's graphics lack atmosphere.

Graphics: 7/10. Good, and in some ways better than GTA in realism, but lack atmosphere and depth.

Sound: 6/10. Average, with no good songs or effects. WAY below GTA, especially Vice City with its DTS sound.

Gameplay: 5/10. Just not fun. Especially the driving. Nowhere near as intuitive or fun as GTA.

Lifespan: 7/10. Has a largish lifespan but is too linear. Again inferior to Vice City.

Fun Factor: 4/10. Just isn't fun for some reason.

Originality: 1/10. An inferior copy of the GTA series.

Value: 5/10. Average.

Overall this is a goodish game, but by comparing it to GTA, in particular to Vice City, it just seems a bit crappy.

As good as GTA, if not better34667

EIDROEDYR from Detroit, Michigan USA says (4/Nov/2003):
This game is not hype, it is definitely as good as Grand Theft Auto. Actually, I think it is better because the story line has 3 different endings depending on the missions you choose or not choose to complete. Unlike GTA, your not stuck with completing specific missions needed to progress the game. Also, the hand-to-hand combat is sweeeeet!! You can upgrade your driving skills, weaponry skills, and fighting skills all in the same game. In addition, the cops as well as the citizens of LA can turn on you if you become one bad cop. The graphics are more realistic than GTA and the overall gameplay provides endless hours of gameplay and replayability. I never thought there would be anything as good as GTA until True Crime came along. Rockstar definitely have to up their game for the next title in the GTA series.

Weak.........over hyped....if you on the ps235895

andrew from london,England says (23/Nov/2003):
the game is over rated. i rented it from block busters for two nights and that is enough. if forced me to put getaway back in my machine which i clocked in january this year!!. The game doesnt have you hooked in your seat like other games ive played. After games like getaway,matrix...your standard becomes very high and this game is considered weak....ps2 peeps we deserve better...i suppose if i live in LA i might have a higher appreciation for this game. i must admit graphics are better than vice city but not getaway. the driving missions get abit repetitive. the game will take you weeks to clock it simply for the fact that you wont be glued to your seat playing it.!!!!!! i hope we have better games for the christmas session. i think gamecube owners will love this game..simply because they havent had better!!!!!!!

Rival of GTA34724

B-Minus from Maryland USA says (4/Nov/2003):
I think this game is another XBox classic like Dead to Rights.Nick Kang is just as much of a loose cannon as Tommy Vercetti but still the two games or totally opposite. If these two men went at it, cop vs criminal, i dont know who would win.I tell you what, GTA has met its match.I just bought this game today and ive beaten both GTA3 and Vice City and this game gets my vote.Im not to fond of law enforcement but my favorite thing about this game is frisking people and locking up.Second best thing I like is stealing cars and not getting in trouble...hold on dont let me forget the huge map of LA.I like it all...I just got done playing since I turn it on for the first time when i brung it home...that was at like 1:30.I would recomend it to everybody.

A nice mix of Vice City and the Getaway with some kung-fu thrown in35398

Tru_Playa from London, England says (15/Nov/2003):
When we first stuck this game on it seemed like the best game we'd played for ages, if not ever! The mix of driving some bad motors with the quality kung fu fighting missions is a blend well appreciated with my mates.

Having finished the game I can honestly say I was a little gutted. Not because the game was a let down, but because I was gutted that it was over. What was I gonna play now? Having said that we did put some serious hours in all in all, and we got some pretty skilled players, and overall Id say DEFINATELY play this game.

Put it this way, Im online now, on this site, because I am looking up a cheat I got for this game! Even though weve finished it, its still got me a little...

Not bad, but stick with Gta!35742

brent from BC Canada says (21/Nov/2003):
For anybody out there wondering if this game can come compete on gta's level, well it just can't. Don't get me wrong, its not a bad game, but it just didn't live up to the hype. For one an 8 year could beat this game in 2-3 sittings. There just wasn't enough things to discover or do in this game like you can gta in roam mode. Theres like 8 different cars driving around the city, the graphics aren't that great and the crime patrol missions are most of the time boring and repitative. Some nice fighting tho and cool things like frisking people and arresting them but other then thats its just an 7/10 shooter/fighting game. Rent this for like 3 days and take it back. Trust me thats all you need.

true crime trust me its phat35742

Nick Kang from Usa, La says (29/Dec/2003):
for everyone whos moaning about it being too short think again, thats what i thought at first but...... if you go in the -1 and below on the good cop bad cop/ying and yang bit you only have 5 episodes to complete but if u dnt shoot the criminals unless there shooting st you then your get +1 good cop and you get 8-10 episodes so there it aint short its just ur nod good enuff! theres 3 different endings to the game so apart from it being vice city, gran turismo, max payne and matrix all in 1 its 3 games on top of that its up 2 how good u r as a gameplayer this game deserve respect so deliver it. nick kang, E.O.D p.s "i told you my kung-fu was better didn't i?!"
