It's new, but is it better? | | Amir Kolmanic from Athens, Greece says (20/Mar/2004): | Many people thought that Final Fantasy X was the greatest game ever produced. As a result, FFX-2 was made. The only FF game with such an upgrade, FFX gained a very high reputation, so its sequel had a lot of work to do and alot of fans to impress. Did they succeed? I'll tell you what I think about the game and some criticisms, so on, blah, blah...let's get to business.
The game features Yuna, Rikku and Paine, the trio known as The Gullwings, sphere hunters in the world of Spira. Yuna, with the help of her guardians eternally defeated Sin two years ago. But then, she was a summoner, a purely religious disciple who was to undertake a sacrificial quest to defeat the persistent bane of Spira. Every time it was defeated, it reappeared ten years later, so to never really be defeated, unless the people were to atone to their sins. Some thought it futile to keep toiling with such a task, but the summoners persistently thought it worthwhile. By figuring out that Yu Yevon, the fiend controlling Sin was the one to defeat, Tidus, Yuna, Auron, Wakka, Lulu, Kimahri and Rikku vanquished Sin and brought to Spira the eternal calm. But now, trouble is stirring up again in Spira, as an unbelievably powerful machina, Vegnagun, has been located in the Bevelle underground area. With such a force to control, it seems all of Spira is in an uproar, and the clash between New Yevon and the Youth League is about to begin...
That should suffice for the introduction...hehe. Now to the games features and differences. Since FFX-2 is so very similar to FFX, I'll compare the two. If your expecting to see Sphere Grids or levels, Aeons (your own, anyway), Turn-Based Battles, Blitzball or equipping weapons you'll be very sadly disappointed. The Sphere Grid is now obsolete because...well because there are Garment Grids and Dresspheres. Garment grids are grids with slots for inserting Dresspheres and possess different abilities. Dresspheres are similar to the characteristics your characters from FFX had, e.g. Lulu was a black mage, so there's a Black Mage DS, Yuna was a white mage, so we have White Mage DS etc. There are also ones like Gun Mage (Yuna's default), Thief (Rikku's default), Warrior (Paine's default), Alchemist, Mascot, Dark Knight, Lady Luck... BTW, each girl can dress up into any DS. Then we have the familiar abilities the girls learn through levels (yes, not sphere levels, plain old 'up to 99 or summit' levels). Black Mage has Fire, Thunder, Ice, Watera and can learn level 2 spells i.e. Fira, Thundara etc. White Mage has Cure, Esuna and can learn level 2, Cura... Same goes for level 3, Curaga. But some spells, like Full Cure, are new. Thief has FlimFlam, a mix of Steal, Pilfer gil and Bribe. And so on, so on...The combos are endless. As for the Aeons, you could say you can summon 'Mini Aeons' while the girls are wearing Trainer DS.
Blitzball could supposedly be related to Sphere Break, though you need slightly more thought here (1+1=2, hehe). There is also Gunner's Gauntlet, which you can find out for yourself. In my opinion, the Sphere Grid was generally much better than this classic style of raising; it was more expandable and less limited. The Aeons were alot of fun (like Pokeemon, smirk... lol, don't really like Pokeemon, I mean Pokemon (e with a line above)) and you could teach them abilities and raise their stats (not with protein like Pokkemon) just exploit their power to slaughter hard bosses (e.g. Yojimbo's Zanmato - this is for those of you who wanted to get Anima but couldn't cos' you forgot to get the treasure in Besaid Temple, and so had to encounter that stupid D. Valefor who slaughtered your pitifully raised characters with a single Sonic Boom, oops, i mean Sonic WINGS (not like Pookemon, smirk) or killed all of your characters with an Energy Ray). Anyway, one more new aspect is that instead of equipping your measly THREE (yeah only 3, tria, tres, tri, trois, drei (OK u get it) characters instead of the before SEVEN!!!!! what a difference (not six like Pokeemon, smirk)) characters with armors, they now get accessories (big difference ;*****), but the weapons are completely omitted, as previousy mentioned. Instead of the old airship Cid had, the Gullwings' airship is now called the Celsius, with a nice fancy red coating too. Tidus is seen several times, but not nearly enough... The CTB (Conditionally (I think) Turn Based Battle System) is now the ATB (figure it out), with more dynamic turns, which has its +es and -es, like if your agile, you can just crack the enemy five times in a time space of ten seconds, but the bad thing is that if you want to get a snack and leave the battle unpaused, you will (unlike in FFX) see a screen with big words spread across your screen reading GAME OVER. Yes, it blows, i know, so just don't forget to pause. The Monster Arena is still there, last time I checked (unless a PS2 My Doom Bug arrived recently through that new Network thing).
Generally, FFX-2 is a very good game with improved graphics, and it is a must-buy for FF fans. Maybe it is a game filled with chicks, but it's still not a chick game... :)
That's pretty much I'll write for now, I hope it helps, or sumfink...For questions, tips, or anything related send me an e-mail at aabeba35712< remove me > at hitmail.com...oopss I mean aabeba35712< remove me > at hotmail.com or kolmanic< remove me > at yahoo.com.
Thanks for reading and remember, gamers, KEEP ON PLAYIN'!!!!!
| FFX-2 Something to hate or something to love? | | Ove Stokke from Norway says (1/Apr/2004): | Allright...........
First of all, I'd like to say the game is actually good. I was positively surprised the first time I completed it. And seeing Rikku again really is cool. She and Auron are the main cool characters from FFX. No denying that. Too bad Auron is gone.....
Anyways, another good thing about FFX-2 is to see the ATB (Active Time Battle, for those who are unfamiliar with FF games) system back again. It creates more dynamic and fastmoving action in combats, even if it is annoying to get pounded by an enemy while trying to select a spell or an item. And one thing I do want to say is, that no matter how many times people tell me the story really is bad, I can't help but disagreeing, even if it can be quite cheesy some times. The story is quite good. (Even if I think Khimari waited a little too long to beat up Garik.) One thing I really like and also hate is the concept of Oversouls. To have extra hard enemies to fight every now and then is cool, but it ain't cool when the boss on level 60 on Via Infinito goes into an oversoul mode, and no matter how many times you try it just kills of your party with a Flare attack that kills everyone.........After you've pounded it for around a 100 000++ some or a heck of a lot more damage.I kind of lost count after a while.............. (Anyone got a tactic on this one, please mail me).
A positive thing about FFX-2 is that you are also not powerplaying as much as in other FF's. It actually takes a lot of levels to do max damage, and most of the dresspheres can't reach 9999 HP or 999 MP, without resorting to some kind of bangle, bracer or something else. The most positive thing is however the New Game Plus option. I really love that. (Am I the only one hating to mate up the monkeys or escorting that Hypello on the Moonflow?)
Of course, even if I like this game, it really has a few downsides. First out is the lack of Auron, he is after all the coolest PLAYABLE character in any FF game (Anyone cooler would be Sephiroth, but he ain't playable by any normal means).
Second of all, I really don't like the way Yuna has changed, seeing as she is a girl who has grown up fearing machine weapons and learning that machines are bad all her entire life, and still she is the one with Gunner as her standard costume... It is a radical change for such an extremely conservative girl that we got to know in FFX. I think Square should have included at least a little on why Yuna chooses guns as her primary weapon, it kind of shows a change in the girl that we as players kind of deserve to know. But it is a fault I can live with. She looks cool with her new look.
The only real complaint I got is Paine. She is, as her name implies, a real Paine. And I am soooooooo glad she doesn't have any more lines than she has. Comments like: "Pre-concert hurt-fest time!" makes me want to roll over and vomit. Thanks God she is the "silent type". Another thing that ticks me of with Paine, is that she tries to hard to be cool. Silent, but cool. Compared to any other FF characters of that stature, she just seems silly. FF7: Vincent, silent and deadly. FF8: Squall, efficient, silent withdrawn. FF8: Quistis, Quiet, calm, always analyzing and coming out on top. FF9: Amarant, the bounty hunter in the party, the guy who works alone. FF10: Auron, need I say more. FF10: Lulu, now this is a silent type of woman who can give you the willies just by looking at you. Compared to this bunch Paine just comes out as a really weak silent type of character. And she says a lot of really stupid things when she actually talks. I know it isn't fair to compare her to the other characters like this, but I think Square would have been better off with a different character as the 3rd person of the group.
My last complaint is that YOU DON'T HAVE ANY AEONS!!!!!!!!
All in all the game "borrows" off from the other FF's a lot, and yet it is intriguing and innovative, because it features old stuff and mixes it with a lot of new concepts and original ideas, on a general level I am pleased with the game, and I enjoy it, and you can play the game more than once without growing bored. And the constant quest for 100% makes you do it over and over again, out of plain old schooled stubborness. (Myself at 97%, and trying as much as I can to get the rest) There's a lot of Charlies Angels feel about the game, but the main characters are not without faults themselves, and sometimes I sit wondering if Brother is not the brains behind the group after all. But the game is still fun and has so far captivated me for several hours of gameplay.
To sum it up. The game got a lot of ups and downs, a lot of nice parts in it, but a heck of a lot of cheesy ones as well. It is overall a good game, but nothing revolutionary for a FF game. It is a must have game for die hard Rikku fans, and a good buy for anyone wanting to pass time until FF XI or FF XII. If you don't expect a fantastic great game that will blow the wind from your lungs, then you will get positively surprised, however if you expect the game to be fantastic and revolutionary, then be prepared for a let down.
But all in all, the game is good, and it will make you play over and over again, just don't expect a FF VII.
| FInal Fantasy X-2:Great Sequel to Great Series! | | A gamer from College Station, Tx says (3/Mar/2004): | First of all, I am a major player of the Final Fantasy Series. I've played out everyone, get 100% completion, Leveling, Items, Etc.... So, I believe that my opinion has some justice in the whole mix of things!(Ofcourse, there are many out there just like me, so kudo's to you to!) Final Fantasy X-2 is one of the best games that I personally have played in a long time. Not just because it's a sequel to Final Fantasy X, which in my opinion was not the best in the series, but because in general, it's a great game. The graphics are awsome, top notch, the music is just as good as ever, the story, if somewhat a bit corney, still capture's it's audience's attention, and the gameplay is one to be remembered! At first, I didn't take this game to seriously. I figured it would be a girly, trashy, sorry attempt to rekindle and cash-in on Final Fantasy players-but I was wrong. Yes, without knowing the entire story, things can get abit confusing(like:Who is this Yuna chick looking for? Hey, who is this Yuna chick? and What's soooo great about Wakka having a kid? I just don't get it!)but if a gamer is playing a Final Fantasy game for the first time, I suggest that they not start on this one and go back to my favorite, Final Fantasy 7. Ofcourse, any true FF Gamer would already have played through FFX and know the backround story, so no problem there. I've read alot about how players don't like the battle/game system. So you get to jump a couple of times and instead of weapons, you have dress spheres? I think this was a creative way to mix things up abit, stop using the same battle system over and over again. True any real FF gamer looks for the continueing battle/game/items still all the same names similarities, but since this is a sequel, first time ever, I don't mind. I love the dress-sphere idea to! I think it's great that you have to level up what I consider character profiles instead of weapons. Yes, there is alot more minor stuff to do, aka side quests that have to be complete, many dress spheres having to be leveled up to complete the game, watching all those com spheres!-But this just makes the game play longer and more interesting. The music is fabu! The dialoge's not great, but 1000 Words really touched me. The whole seen between Shu Yin, Len, and Yuna made be cry-not only because of the touching story, but because the graphics were just to good! There seems to be more sadness incorperated in this FF game as well. I always loved the bitter-sweet moments that come with the story in all the FF games, but this story is almost to much for me! I **almost** prefer Final Fantasy 8 or Final Fantasy 9's happier endings to this one's.(ofcourse things are a bit different during 100% completion story mode) But things do seem to come around full circle and I like that. Even if the music is not as memorable as it's predicesor's, or the story not as good-I still enjoyed it, without regret or shame. Whether male or female, gamer or not, this is one to play over and over. Well, maybe not as much as FF7, but definatly up there.

| Erm... This isn't really Final Fantasy is it... | | Mr Foghorn from Vice City, FL says (24/Apr/2004): | Final Fantasy X-2, here to take the mick of all that was good about Final Fantasy X. Not only is it the first sequel in the series (which is a bad thing), but it completely ignores the fact that it's a Final Fantasy game. It's like they took Final Fantasy X's world, characters and stuff, and put it in some other game where the ATB sucks, everything is designed for morons, and loyal Final Fantasy (particullarily FFX) fans are given a big punch in the face. No Sphere grib, no proper storyline, a 'turn based' battle sequence which feel more like playing Devil May Cry (without moving), compared to FFX's simple conditional turn-based system where you where aloud to decide what to do. Here are the things in the game:
Gameplay 7/10:
The battles are just as random and the places are pretty much how we left them in FFX. Only when you actually fight, it becomes less of a turn based strategy game and more of an action game where you use menu's to attack. The sphere grid is gone and this time you upgrade them like you did with the Aeons in FFX, put them in a few battles and they'll gain health. The way they learn new moves is strange to, select the move and every battle you do counts towards it, ok... And the overdrives are gone, as are Aeons which really takes the flashiest parts of the battles away. And what's really annoying is that they binned trying to make a decent plot and instead made a my-first-RPG battle system.
Graphics 8/10:
The non-rendered cutscenes in FFX were better then some actuall CG cutscenes in lesser games, as for the CG in FFX, well, the fact you knew it was a video game was the only thing stopping you from thinking it was real. In this however, in all the places CG would have been brilliant, they skipped it and stuck with in-game visuals... genius... the CG at the beggining is decent, but then there's a long gap before you see any more of it. And even then it's still not up there with FFX. Itjust seems so unpolished...
Sound 8/10:
The voice acting is on par with FFX, although a bit hyperactive... although they got rid of the meaty sword strike noice and the magic noises, and replaced them with quieter mimics. Although I can tell they put effort into the noise where they $#< remove me > at ! the gun... To bad you only here it once or twice in the whole game. Oh well...
Lifespan 5/10:
There's a 30-odd hour plot ark in this about Yuna trying to find Tidus... Big deal... The plot isn't anywhere near as well told or deep as Final Fantasy X. Ok, if you played two hour a day, this would take you a fortnight if you were skilled. Although anyone skilled would find this boring. I myself put it down after i got half way through it in a weekend (it was rainy and damp out, so I had to find something to do for the gap between getting up and going to the pub) due to the fact the plot bored the bejesus out of me and the ATB system didn't make thing any better.
Verdict 6/10:
Not really recommended for people for the busy mainstream gamers it's aimed at and not for people who play 3 hours a day (or more). So all in all, a bit more Final Fantasy and less trying to make the main characters the FF equivelent of Charlies Angels.
| Rock on baby! | | A gamer from Ontario, Canada says (16/Mar/2004): | Oh yeah talk about being one of the best ff games (I find) I mean, I never played FF7 before and I know how everyone's saying it's the best game of all time, and how you should really play it and so on. But I find FF9, FF10, and FF10-2 to being the best. They were just so well put together with the whole story and such, and to actually have a sequal is really awesome! I never really thought that would be true, because we all know final fantasy is a series that you don't need to play the others to understand what's going on, and I'm pretty sure people are getting that idea for FF10-2 with FF10, and yeah you can play this game without the use of FF10, but it would be nice to know a little back story...but that's entirely up to you! Now this game, it is the king! I mean, the dresspheres and all that...totally awesome! I loved having the ability to change into all these different things, learning all these cool abilities, and to get them was fun too (loved the sphere break game!) I'm glad they took out Blitzball, I hated that game with a passion only because I found it quite confusing (like most ff mini games...) but not sphere break! But I must tell you one thing, through experience, I recommend you do not rush through going to place to place without exploring because well, not only will your hp be small, you won't have that much percentage for 100% and I know you want to see that ending (it took me three times of playing this game to achieve it...but hey, it was well worth it!) The game, like FF9 has a great replay value! So don't be upset when you don't get all the percentage in this game...you can play it again! And the game actually will have that happen! I mean after all the ending stuff something will pop up saying about this New Game Plus which is another plus for this game! I always wanted to have a game where you can start brand new and have everything, which you do! The new game plus does that and it's great, I mean, you get to keep all the stuff you ever earned in the first time through, dresspheres, skills, items, accessories...EVERYTHING!!! The only thing sucks is you're back at level 1 and you need to get the 10 stupid crimson spheres again...but hey, it'll make those extreme bosses even easier because not only will you have your catnip from the first time through you'll have it AGAIN in the next time through! So the bosses will go down even quicker with two gunners!! Pretty sweet, don't you think? So don't feel bad that you don't have 100% in one game, okay? Believe me, beat it now and do the new game plus thing more so than re-starting the game from complete scratch, because it even saves your previous percentage!!! (which is a major plus, you won't need to have to do absolutely everything again...thank god) So don't feel sad...a second chance is just around the corner!
| Completely hooked on Rikku | | Super Gaijin from Charlottetown, PEI, Canada says (15/Jan/2004): | This game is incredibly addictive. It's a million times better than FFX since it went back to the old system of simply levelling up. There's no more stupid sphere grid to add 200 HP to your total or give you one more speed point. There's no chance of being stuck on one spot and not levelling up because you don't have a specific sphere. The concept of the dresspheres is ingenious, anyone can be any class at any time basically, so long as that class is applied to the garment grid that that character has equipped.
The game can last anywhere from 10 hours to over 100, depending on if you're going straight in for plot or to get everything and complete all sidequests. If you can't figure out how to get higher than 60% by the end of the game, then you shouldn't be playing with anything more than a rubber ball. It's not a completely linear game, so therefore don't treat it like one. Walk around for hours at a time, search every nook and cranny of every extra area before continuing the plot. There's no rush to finish the game, besides it's much harder to finish Vegnagun if you went for nothing but plot, you wouldn't have the correct dresspheres or abilities gained for the dresspheres to beat it with any ease.
And yes, there are accessories that do more than one thing. Minerva's Plate, Wring, Bloodlust, Bushido Lore, etc. all do many things at once. Even just common accessories can have up to three effects at once on your character. Minerva's Plate and Wring is an excellent combination to use for a black mage or a white mage (if you've already learned the black magic spells). You'll have a magic attack of 255 (max) but very little health, you'll be poisoned automatically at the start of each battle, but you'll be able to cast incredibly powerful magic in the blink of an eye with the Turbo Black Magic effect supplied by Minerva's Plate, but only do this if you don't care about levelling up anymore since you'll constantly suffer from pointless.
Another great aspect is the Active Time Battle system. You can set it to wait if you so wish, but I always leave it on ATB so I can properly combo my attacks together. I'm easily getting 18-hit combos that can easily kill some bosses in two turns.
It's a great game, I love the graphics and storyline, I love the characters and sidequests, the minigames, everything. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes to have fun with their RPG's.
| Pros and Cons | | wytchmagick from North Carolina, USA says (9/Mar/2004): | I think FFX-2 is a decent game in total. It doesn't 'suck', but it is also a far reach from say... FF7. (by the way, FF7-2 Advent Children is NOT A GAME... it's a movie.) FFX-2 has great graphics, decent music (1000 words is a WONDERFUL song) and decent battle systems. It can be frustrating with the active battle system when trying to find items or scroll through spells and monsters are pummeling the snot out of you though. The Dressphere/garment grid concept was a great idea, giving more variety to the game, although they could have easily achieved that with more playable characters. I also do not like the 'must get 100% completion, plus do this and that secret stuff to get the perfect ending'... just give it to us already, we busted our butts on this game (and our wallets), I think we deserve the best. (especially since most FFX-2 players are die-hard FF fans and have been playing FF for a looooong time)
Overall, this whole game has a "Charlie's Angels" feel to it, with the characters, interaction, missions, "episode" complete (like a tv show or something) and even the scantilly clad outfits for the 3...I repeat... 3 (like the angels) main characters. Of course, I developed this opinion in the very beginning with the "Y.R.P" thing, and since, the game has only added to that opinion. Oh yeah... the other thing that REALLY REALLY peeved me... YOU CANNOT SUMMON AEONS (or whatever they decide to call them in any given FF game) Noooooo, you get to FIGHT them, but no summoning..... *gives very angry face*
But all in all, I think it's a game more geared towards pre-pubescent boys or guys who like to play games with scantilly clad women. Granted, the whole 'girls kicking butt' might appeal to females, it's not going to be the major seller of the game. Most women want to see Tidus again after the really crummy ending off FFX. (who writes these storylines anyway, and how often have they tried to commit suicide?) If you are a die-hard FF fan, get the game, it's worth it... but if you are looking for a sequel befitting FFX, don't.. wait till you can pick it up used at a pawn shop or something. And for those playing it.. If you start to get frustrated and ticked off (i know I did).. stop playing for a few days (or longer) and then pick it up. The game will seem a lot less redundant.
| what a drag | | A gamer from ontario, canada says (3/Mar/2004): | To tell the truth, I only was interested in the game ending itself...this game, didn't appeal to me at all. Sure it was cool to have a ff sequal, but it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. (Here I'm thinking, Yuna's going to be taking some emotional trip down memory lane and that her quest would be somewhat challenging). But no, most of the time she was this perky, cheerleader type girl trying to find out how spira has changed with her ditzy side-kick Rikku. I also didn't like some of the bosses that took off well over 9999hp, when your character can barely even make it over 10 (with all the accessories you need to put on to jack up your hp) and I'm not even sure that doing that via infinito will give you anything when you do beat it (I only made it to level 60 - and that was pretty much what I needed to do for game completion percentage needed). But if You have the "catnip" accessory, then those bosses are a breeze, you just have to pray they don't hit and kill your party before you get a chance to revive (because they need to be in the yellow for it to work) so use the gunner ability "trigger happy" is best for the catnip because each hit takes off 9999hp! (if you're having any problems with the bosses) Now the cutscenes are a different matter. Wait a minute, I don't think I remember any cutscenes through out the game except for the two Yuna concerts and the ending! Which is a new thing, I didn't even know Yuna could sing in the first place...but in the storyline I realized how it failed to mention the fact of how Yuna even got the garment grid...just out of the blue, she's on this mission to get it back (but I thought it was because of some sphere Kimahri got) yeah, confusing much. Anyway, I realized the game was based on gaining more dresspheres than finding more spheres. I didn't like the fact of the missions either, yeah you help out all these people, but really, what was the point of all of it? Nothing! It was really lame I find...but it was a good try and I give them credit for that...it was still good to play though, (I played and beat it three times already) so enjoy the game people, really, it's not that bad but when you get down to the root of the game, those are the faults I find. More cutscenes, no missions, and keep the dresspheres, those were cool.
| One time isn't enough... | | Ayrlyn from PA says (7/Jun/2004): | I was sort of iffy about buying the game. Although I know most people out there liked ten, I found the voice overs to be sort of bleagh, and the two main characters a farce.
Ten two, at first, DOES look really girly (and this says a lot considering I AM a girl). But don't let that throw you. I'm tired of guys saying 'oh but it's only girls!' Go cry about it. Know how WE'VE all been waiting for a female lead character? That doesn't make it stupid. YES the translation (I.E. dressspehre) is not so great. Think of it as Class Sphere instead and out goes half of your complaints.
For those of you who say that FF is all about sphere grids and a waiting batlle system: 1. TEN had the spheregrid. No other 3d FF I've played ever had that. Think before you talk. 2. You CAN make X-2 wait if you want. Again, the atb was around well before ten 2.
The battle system is a mix of 9, 8, and in a way, seven. The ability up points from battle strongly remind me of the abilities you learned from weapons in nine. The gunner dresssphere is like the gunblade in ff 8. Seven is just a casual similarity.
The fact that there are only three characters at first bored me. 3? Pheh. But it turns out to be useful- no switching aroun and lazing off with two or three lowe level characters you find out are crucial later on. (In FF7 I had cloud aeris and red XIII leveled up. When they took out cloud and aeris in a short time, I was screwed.)
If it only takes you 15 hours to beat it, it's not because YOU are fast or the game is short, it's because you didn't do the highly important (not required) and engaging sidequests.
Overall- play this game through a few times. The guy who said 'you don't find tidus? What a rip!' didn't play it through right. There are THREE endings people, 3 which means that when you don't get Tidus, it's all your fault. (hehe I got him baaaack :-P)
Please note: When you first beat the game, wait until after all the credits to get the new game plus. You keep all your old money, abilities, spheres, AND percent. Cool eh? And oaka only asks for 1k instead of 100k the 2nd time through.
Mail me if you need some help. If I don't know, I'll find someone who does :) (And don't bug me. I'll bug you back ;) )
| What the hell u on about?! | | Katie from Leeds England says (7/Mar/2004): | I realy like this game! I may be on my own but I dont care. I think that it beats 10 with a big bloody stick! coz 10 was cr*p! fair enough its not better than 7 and i hope the new 7 comes out allrite, (is that a film or a game?) but im sick of hearing people slag off ffX2! IF YOU DONT LIKE IT EXCHANGE IT FOR SOMETHING ELSE and get on with your life man! stop complaining and go play on soul callibour to work out some of that testosterone. If you think its so easy why dont you go though university, learn to animate and make your own bloody RPGs! and stop posting the same messeges as every one else. Just enjoy the game for what it is or sell it! personaly i found the battle system a little strange at first but then i realy got into it! its like hard core fun coz its quite fast, and im loving the dress spheres and the three character system coz it makes training up much faster. I also like the characters because there realy cheesy stereo types! but that leblanc girl is iritating! apart from the masarge thingy which i found quite funny.
I realy like the graphics coz they are just that bit better than 10 but that bit makes all the difference, the opening sequence although cheesy is very nicly done! there isnt that much CG in this game but i think theres more than there is in 10.
also theres more options in this game about who your friends are and some times if your nicer to a sertain group it can effect battles in the future which is a nice feature. 1 thing i do disslike about this game is the lack of a good baddy!!!! 10 had the same problem a big thing that dosent do any thing does not serface my desire to kick it ass! the guy in 9 was a good baddy! 7 had the best baddy! Setheroph man! what more do you want!? A good baddy needs to take a sick sort of plesure in desroying familes and the main characters home town and stuff like that, I like the firs baddy in 8 aswell and the ultimecia thing controling all the others was a nice idea but the motives for her wanting to compress time were a little far fetched for me. any way i think if you liked 10 you might not like this 1 coz it does feel a little like treading old ground, but if your open minded from the start i think it is well worth the 40 quid!
| FFX-2 can kiss my fat yellow A-hole. | | Spirit from Bad Homburg, Germany says (27/Feb/2004): | Foremost, I'd like to say this game is pretty damned sad compared to FF9, which isn't even mentioned at all ever since the PS2 came out. And that is really sad because FF9 was WAY better than FFX-2.
Well, I had trouble during Cloister 80, so I'll help y'all with this. The best thing to do is equip one of your characters with catnip, speedbracer (not necessary but it helps) and gunner. Before you enter the battle with Chac, which attacks over 10,000 and petrifies (ribbon will not work!!), have your gunner's HP in the yellow. (But do not save, it will heal you.) Then enter the battle and use the other characters to distract Chac, or do whatever you please (just dont heal the gunner). I equipped the other two characters with Berserker because it has high evasion and counters everything. You can do that if you want. It is a good distraction from the gunner that alwasy chips away at Chac's HP. It all depends on the catnip gunner now. Once it is the gunner's turn, use trigger happy and tap as fast as you can. To destroy Chac should only take about three turns on trigger happy. If you end up dying, just redo it again. It's not hard at all.
For Cloister 100, it's about the same strategy. Except the two other characters should be equipped with valiant lustre, crystal gloves, crstal bangle, and dark knight. You need high defense and a lot of HP when you fight trema who follows right after the Omega thing. You won't be able to heal after Omega. Destroy the Omega, which should take about one or two turns with trigger happy. Once you ensue battle with trema, have the dark knights ready on items, such as phoenix down and megaphoenix. Have them cast hast and protect. And leave the gunner to do her job while they keep throwing phoenix in the air. Stock up becuase you should keep throwing it even if no one is dead. It helps because once a person dies, they would be revived immediately without the wait down to pull it out. Overall, survive and chip away as fast as you can. This battle is the battle of luck and speed. so
Good luck and godspeed.
| good good worth the 90 bucks i paid for it to light hearted for my taste | | claire from WA australia says (16/Apr/2004): | ummmm for starters...btw i have never written a review so i will just try and be helpful!
I am dissapointed that tidus didnt return but i have only played the game once through and im playing it again & IM AIMING FOR THE PERFECT ENDING. hope u guys know what im talking about(once u get 100% u get this so called thing where theres a new ending!) i went surfing the net after i had finished thinking this must not be it! and thats where i found the 100% perfect ending! anyways i tried and tried looking for the ways to get a 100% and i found this thing which might help you guys- apparently when u fall down that hole in the djose temple when ixion stamps u down in the 2nd chapter i think u can walk around for a while... press circle all the time when your down there and u should hear a faint whistling thats your cue thats somethings happening (keep pressing circle until your sure the scenes over)and apparently tidus apperars (which he will have to some time in there coz hes in the credits when u finish it even though there was nothing on him juring the whole game!)and u need to have done that during the scene to get the perfect ending! also i found out myself that if u want heaps of money u pay off okaka the 23rd early in the game he will stick around for a while and sell u things for super cheap thats when u buy stuff from him (as much as u can) and sell them 2 barkeep for a profit.. OH if your wondering why i gave it a 9 and not a 10 is cos the girls got really smutty and yuna turned from super conservative to a better not say.. any ways loved it but not as much as final fantasy 10 or 9 (nine was the first FF i played so it will always remain high on my list)i have played 7 & 8 as well and i argee with that dude before squall & auron where some of the best characters--- i didnt like paine much either... my favorites will remain th originals of ff10 the totally rocked!
love it heaps claire

| FFX 0wns All <:Spoilers:> | | ULTIMA SHUYIN from Houston, USA says (8/Dec/2003): | man ffx is friggin hard, who ever said it was easy is wrong. the bevelle 101 cloistors is harder than anything. if you ever got to the bottom level, you fight trema. hes harder than anything!!! 999999 hp 255 everything even LUCK!!! god the first chapters are easy but whats hard is getting 100% completion. although i like ffx's battle system (i suck at ATB i have slow reflexes)... the game is overall pretty good. yea sorta girly but its still cool... the garment grids thing is sorta gay but the lvl up and abilities thing is pretty cool. Im still gettin through the plot so... Shuyin is pretty cool and the graphics are awesome (shuyin is tidus' evil 1000 year old counterpart for those who don't know or those who don't give a damn. O yea! the dress system is awesome, my favorite is mascot, post ur favorite!!! o yea and that dude who said "o chapter 2 and 3 and blah blah blah are so easy" wait till u get where im at... sphere break and blitzball are like so hard and Vegnagun can cast like Ultima 3 times in a row. i don't like the mission thing and the commsphere. Lenne is pretty cool (lenne is yuna's longer haired 1000 year old diva for those who don't know) and yunas concert in the thunder plains is awesome. Lian and Ayde are cool and so is Kimarhi. OMG blac elemental is so hard, my dude has like 200 strength and i still can't beat him. i do like only 1000 damage. and hes like killin every1 with ultima. for those who think its easy, try fighting ANGRA MANYU and TAWRICH and ZARICH. its hard! The game is pretty short so for those who are poor, don't buy IT!!! sound is pretty good, normal music suks but Yuna's music and battle music are awesome.
i don't like the fact that there is almost no fmv's!!! except for the first one, and like various others, only like 2 per chapter. (5 chapters). 4th one is gay but the 5th one is so good!!! Vegnagun is awesome and so am I but who gives a < remove me > at #$% about that.
Peace Out Ya'll

| overall its a good and fun game to play with awesome main cut scenes | | Ricki from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia says (20/Feb/2004): | Personally I am not a big fan of final fantasy ... however i do enjoy playing ff8-ffx-ffx-2...coz they're more realistic and has more attractive and life like characters, compared to the legowy cartoon like weird character features of other previous ff games with rediculous outfits + hair... but hey u don't have to agree wit me, its just my bias point of view hehe.. ffx-2 i guess has improved in the movie sequences and the characters definately have alot of personality especially yuna and Rikku which is good 'I luv paine'...the story line is not the best but i quite enjoyed it, however it would be even better if they didn't focus on too much about yuna and tidus's hectic love.. duh'we already know about it! also the fact that everything evolves around yuna like she's the hero well'she didn't defeat sin by herself'thats 4 sure..instead they should focus more on other characters aswell..like cough' Rikku and Gippal.. coz there is definately chemistry between tha 2... and also looking into more detail about paine's relations with the 3 leaders...'flash back scenes' I don't like the fact that you can only play 3 characters in the whole game it kinda well sucked..they could at least added some more playable characters... or even better play as shuyin in the past as well as other past characters in his voyage to save lenne, like lagoona in ff8..ooh yeah and i hate the fact that wakka and lulu and other characters in previous ffx is wearing the same clothes...is it that hard to change there clothes ... well apart from that everything else is perfect i love the new battle system ...the ppls who thinks that the game is too short.. is wrong because there r side quests in every chapter'mission completes'..each revealing more storyline..
well you dont have to agree with me but thats my opinion...
| FFX-2 IS Very Long and VERY Challenging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Erik Macias from Houston,TX in USA says (26/Mar/2004): | I have read many reviews of the game and a lot of people say it is very easy and it is very short.Well, they are wrong. If you go and do what i did to get everything there is in the game like getting 99 Iron Dukes, then you will probably have to play at least 200+ hours. You get Iron Duke by defeating Trema, the hardest boss in any FF game.I had max strength and luck just to deal a measly 350 damage.I have played many FF games and no boss in them were as hard as in the Via Infinito in FFX-2.I finished FFX without moving in the spere grid, in fact, to me it was easier than FFX-2.Even harder than the monster arena. The game in my opinion is hard because you are way more limited than in FFX.I have two files of the game saved and and i have over a hundred in one and over 267 hours in the other.I only have 97% complete but i alredy know what im missing which i just a scene were Barkeep introduces he's new girl to Brother.I think that the people that say the game is easy aren't telling the truth because they are probably going through the game doing only hot spot missions.I have 99 Cat Nips and i equipped all the girls with one to deal 9999 damage combined with Trigger Happy and i still get killed by Paragon, another hard ass boss in the Via Infinito.Im just trying to say that the game is very long and extremely difficult to get 100%!!!!!!!!!But it is still worth the 49 dollars i spend, i would buy it even if it cost 99 dollars.Like i said on another review of mine i give the game a 10/10 on everything, nah, i'll give it a 100/100!!!!!It is another hit from Square.
PS: I am so looking forward to FFVII Advent Children which is a movie not a game.I want to know the story of the movie,so i anyone know the real story, please email me and tell me.
| Final Fantasy Fashion Plates??? | | Greg B. from Virginia, MN says (1/Dec/2003): | I'm well into chapter 3 of the game. What the heck is this? Final Fantasy Fashion Plates?
The story line sucks. Hands down. I was just saying to my wife "I certainly hope that this story pulls together sometime soon!" 10 was considerably better.
OK, now for the nitty-gritty. What the heck is with the battle system? OK, I'm familiar with Active Battle mode. That's fine. But, you wait until your meter charges up, then if you want to cast a spell, you have to wait AGAIN until your spell meter charges up. Then it costs mana. So, you have to wait twice as long to cast a spell.
And I can't even BEGIN to figure out the "Special Dress Spheres". Oh, and how about the equip? OK, I guess since we're playing dress-up, that we can't wear gauntlets, a ring, and earrings at the same time. Sorry, folks, only 2 slots. And you can't change equips in the middle of battle, so you'd better hope that if you're going up against Ifrit, you know in advance so you can put on something to reduce fire damage, otherwise you're hosed. Oh, did I say "Save game often?"
I mean, come on people, one of the tasks I had to do was to give one of the other characters a BACK RUB? And make sure I reached a pleasure score within a certain number of moves????
This game was apparently written by pre-pubescent kids who like seeing girls in different outfits.
Quite frankly, the worst $50 I ever spent.
Shall I go on? Sure, why not. It doesn't matter that I got EVERY Al-bhed primer in 10, you start over in 10-2. It doesn't matter that two thirds of your party SPEAK al-bhed, forget understanding a thing they're saying.
Sorry, I'll take 10 over 10-2 any day. For that matter, I'll take 8 over either of them.

| FFX-2...a fun...yet also dispointing game | | Alfred Tam from Millbrae, CA, USA says (26/Dec/2003): | i do kind of like the game. in a way... se i got really disaponted when i found out u only #%$#ing watch the goddamn blitzball game instead of playing it. and the music in blitzball is so stupid. FFX was way better the sphere grid and also blitzball had that sick ass music in the background and u can play it. now....its so stupid. all u do is coach the team. it gets addicting after a while. also the 100% is like impossible. hmm...some imfo i can give is that the perfect ending is very diserving and the dresspheres are pretty cool. lvl aint too bad im used to it from the other FF's. but dont get ur hopes down when u play blitzball and ur acaully HOPING to play but then end up watching em play. uhh..there are many minigames and ooooo WHEN U PLAY THE GAME REST IN THE CABIN OF THE AIRSHIP IN EVERY CHAPTER!!! U NEED DO TO THAT IN ORDER TO GET THE PERFECT ENDING. in the beginning of chapter 5 reast in the cabin one more time to trigger a scene. also if anyone knows how...plz tell me how to get the special garment grid THE END. ive just spent like 2 hours looking online to see if anyone knew. just e-mail me for any questions but dont expect it to be there soon. also...in order to get the perfect ending...u must go to every place in spira in EVERY chapter. and also when u get that "special" sphere and u have to decide whether to give it to the youth leage or new yevon (youll kno wut i mean when u get there) u have to give it to the yuoth leage in order to get a 100% that also means u cant get the awesome dressphere THE MOSCOT. thats like the best one too. well goodluck when u get the game or good luck beating it and getting the perfect ending to the ones who already have it.
| Rocked!!!! | | Zach from illinois U.s says (17/Mar/2006): | the game was a little different than the other ff's which I think made it a bit better.I liked the graphics and the new battle system.I was a little dissapointed though in the 100% completion thing. You really cant beat it the first time unless you really explore, or have a game guide. But I did like their multiple endings and the sroryline.Again I didn't like the fact that you could only have 3 chars in the game but they were all women so I wasn't complaining.Yeah you should actually play it before you start hearing bad about it because really it was a pretty good game.I've played this game for atleast 40 hours and only have 88% of it completed i'm trying still to get the Perfect ending, ive already seen the Good ending I thought the Good ending was better than the common.I also liked the option of being able to switch dresspheres during battle, Including the new special dresspheres.Their wasn't as many movie scenes as ffx but the graphics make it better. Again I liked the new storyline it was a little different from the other ff's because now their like just hunting down movies instead of destroying some increadible monster which you still do in this one to. I think the reason why the makers mae them hunt down spheres is because they wanted you to get more information on the chars, like their past and their personalities. But I still preferred ffx better, and I really don't think their gonna make a ffx-3 because Yuna already had her Perfect ending. But I have heard a rumor going on that they may because their thinking about Rikku and maybe giving her a Perfect ending too. But if they fo make a ffx-3 I hope that Yuna and Tidus will be in it as well.
| what a game!! best one yet! | | dave from paris, france says (3/May/2004): | final fantasy X-2 is the best out of all the series.i wouldnt say by far because they are all great.the only reason why this game dosent get 10 stars is because it is to short which is a bit of a let down.i did enjoy it when i stated playing and when i completed it.i like the idea of it mattering what u do for the ending of the game.i think most final fantasys are great and exciting but this hits the spot.when at first my brother got the game we both played it for several hours!!!!!! another bad pointer well 2 actually was that you could only be yuna paine and rikku and for us boys i think thats sexist!also it can get a bit ot confusing about yuna trying to find tidus was she ment to do it or was had she got it wrong!my fav charecter on this game is yuna but i would of liked wakka and auron in the games because there cool! what i wont to know is when ur fighting vegnagun is that aurons tidus and jects voice u can hear because it took me by suprise when i heard it?also i think the game was a little to easy. what i like about the games is the jobs!my favourite has to be mascot even though i nevr used it it is my goal to get it!that is the reason why i enjoy final fantasys so much because u can set ur self a goal and i like doing that!i think that it was good with the addition of paine in the game! i like the idea of her knowing gipppal, nooj and baralai.another queston i ask is it always barlai u face or can u face nooj and gippal aswell? the one i like also is final fantasy is 7 which i would advise u to buy and i would like a ps2 sequal for that one plz! this is the end of my review and click yes!not no!
| Half Naked Chicks Enuff Said | | Josher from Hemingway, South Carolina US Of A says (28/Feb/2004): | Ok To start, some of the cutscenes were pretty crappy, like Yuna singing in the first CG, but graphics are great, and about the battle system, like it matters if it was like Kingdom Hearts, which it wasn't, does not matter b'cus Sqauresoft/Sqaure-Enix had their hand in making that game also. I myself am a HUGE FF fan I've played all of the series even the very first one on Nintendo, And everyone has lived up to my expectations, some ppl say they dont like it b'cus the main characters are girls, its a change and i liked it, but if they would pay attention it isnt completely about Yuna Rikku and Paine. It revolves around everyone from FFX as well, even Wakka, along with a bunch of fresh faces. The sideqeusts are confusing at times, but fun, none the less. The Exp is back and thats a plus, I like the dress spheres b'cus they give u a variety of skills and abilities to learn, for either Yuna Rikku or Paine, not just one weapon that only one of them can use. The people who say this game sux is just mad b'cus they don't appreciate or understand a true FF game. And the fact that it is a seqeul, thats another plus b'cus it was long awaited, some ppl say there isn't enuff cutscenes but if they would ever try talking to Shinra while they see him walking around when they went somewhere, Ex. Kilika Island or Bevelle, anywhere, he sets up a Commsphere, they are used to keep check on the areas, u can talk to Shinra while in the Celcius and watch cutscenes and get helpful information. So all in all, i think they did a great job with this game and need to do seqeuls to some of the older FF's as well.
