Dot{.} Hack: Mutation is Real Cool Video Game..!!!!!!!!40668

Manav Gandhi from India says (28/Apr/2004):
A Real Neat and an Exciting {X-Kite-ing} Game especially for all the Tech-Geeks across the World. Welcome to the Dawn of a New Era with lots of Emails, Viruses, etc.,.. Talk about the Theta Server, BlackRose, Theta Server, Chaos Gate, Chosen Hopeless Nothingness, etc.,.. You Log in from Your Desktop & End IT at the same too.. But what I really liked was that this game really kicks some Hardcore-VideoGamers all over the World. Beat Magus and Have Fun. I Luv this Game as it is more than just another VideoGame where you just are to complete a Mission,etc.,. as you enter the Matrix as soon right 4ROM the start and the Graphics are real cool too. This is One Different Videogame and IT is truly amazing..!!!!!!!! "oo" Thanx.. Manav Gandhi..!!!!!!!!

Love those Grunties24897

skeether from Vancouver, WA says (7/Jun/2003):
  .hack/MUTATION (part 2):
Where do I begin? This is the second part of the .hack series. With the last two titles due out before the end of the year, and the first having come out earlier this year, I was to say the least, excited. After the first couple of troubling hours on part 1 (INFECTION), I grew to loving this game and its unique approach to online/offline gaming. And I love those grunties.
For those of you who haven’t gotten INFECTION yet, don’t buy MUTATION until you’ve played the first. This game happens in succession, which means you have to play all of them and in order for the story to make sense.
Story:
MUTATION begins where INFECTION left off. I won’t say anything because the story is the driving force in the game. While playing it is fun in itself, the story is what keeps everything going.
Again you are playing as a person playing an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). The e-mail system is still there and is still a treat. In part 2 however, you learn that the other characters your teammates will like you more if you give them lots of gifts, or a few rare or expensive ones (just like real people!). The more they like you, the more e-mails they will send you.
Gameplay:
MUTATION boasts the same controls as the first installment, but since most players will have gotten used to these, you probably won’t die as much. I only died a few times, and they were all my fault. Not paying attention or going to a place with enemies much stronger than you will get you dead in quite a hurry.
Spells and items get stronger and more expensive, but you have the money to spend. Throughout the course of MUTATION, you’ll notice that your HP seems to stedily increase, but still you are losing it at much the same rate. Nothing wrong with that, but I think I prefer the larger numbers to the smaller ones.
Graphics:
Same as INFECTION, but still fun to look at.
Sound:
Unfortunately, the music for the unnecessary dungeons, where you train, is more or less the same. While good for the mood they set, the limited tunes do start to grow old. The boss battles still have the best music, and I am glad for that. The sound effects are of good quality, and I think that the English voices are a little better than in the first game.
Replayability:
Not much replay value here, but the bonus stuff once you beat the game is nice, but I wish that BANDAI had put just a little more effort into this aspect.
For me, my favorite BGM to have playing on my desktop in BGM 12. Don’t ask me why, but I really enjoy the light, happy mood the Mr. Panta song projects.
Overview:
MUTATION is an excellent sequel to INFECTION and with the purchase of this game, you get a $5 rebate coupon, for .hack//OUTBREAK, in the instruction manual.
I like this game a lot and the story gets deeper and much more interesting than it already was. Congratulations to BANDAI on making an excellent story here.

Great Game. Better than any thing else I have played.30749

Ghost_Zero from Nevada, USA says (22/Aug/2003):
I have played both Mutation and Infection. Being able to transfer data from one to the other is a great idea. Sure it means I have to down another fifty to get the next part but to tell the truth, I don't care how much it costs. I played FFX before I got this and got up to about the point in the game where you meet the floating baddie that kills all of the Ronso (please forgive bad spellings, haven't played in a long time.) I then started playing other games because I got bored. Then this game was released and I had read about it and thought " Why not? buy it and check it out. Don't like it I could always sell it off to a friend or something." Well I never sold it off and I still haven't played FFX. I am having alot of fun in Mutation. The story is fun to follow and it is great to get e-mails from the other players. It really deepens the game. This game beats all hands down. I am greatful the games haven't changed a great deal from one to the other and I can't wait for part three. The only thing I wish it had was a resizable map. But it is transparent so it dosn't hurt the game much. If you find this game and you like RPGs buy it! Then go out and look for part 1 so you can start from the begining! Its worth it. Oh and the OVAs that come with the game are very interesting too. The first one was kinda lost but still good and the second was a blast to watch. Sure, it didn't have major action but that is what the game is for. I advise to watch the OVA first then start the game. The connection between the OVA and the game is insane and when I read about the stuff that happened in the OVA on the News board in the game the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I got a chill. I have never had a game do that to me before. Maybe Im just wierd but that was an awsome feeling! Well talking about it makes me wanna play some more. Hope you pick it up and have as much fun as other players and I have had. I just hope that the user base is huge because CC2 has said that if the game is accepted good enough by players the there are possible plans for a real MMORPG based around The World. Of coarse viruses and falling into comas not included. I think it would be one hell of a game.

exactly like the other one34966

daniel from katy texas usa says (8/Nov/2003):
Took me forever to write a review on this, but i got the game the same time that i did infection but somone whos name shall not be revealed................my sister decided to jab a needle in the mutation disk and ruin it. Well i got another copy and totally beat it( sidequests and all ) so heres my review for .hack\\Mutation for the Playstation 2. In this game, like its predeccesor you play the illegal character Kite, in a game called The World,a simulated MMORPG( Massivley Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). In the last game(.Hack// Infection) Kites friend Orca gets put into a coma in the real world by the monster, Skeith. After a strange series of events Kite gains the power( Data Drain )to hack monsters for treasure and virus cores, but if you over use this power it could be game over for young Kte. You get new frinds and eventually fight the pain in the ass monster boss, Skeith. That in a nutshell is Infection. Mutation picks off where Infection left off. You meet five new friends and gain even more equitment than the last one. Along with a new server, grunty races,Anglemore, and three, count em three new bosses(Innis, Cubia, and Magus). Innis and Magus who are supposed to be part 2 and 3 of the main 8 bosses in all the games are really easy, but Cubia is a pain. Now the graphics are pretty much the same exept for after you beet Magus the towns get infected. It definatly has allot of originality, I never seen a simulated MMORPG before. If you do every little thing in this game it may take you a week tops. Anyone who likes to see a whole lot of action in a game and doesnt like repetiveness(which this game has a whole lot of) then this is not the game for you. I leave it wth a bleak 7 out of 10.

P.S
The people who make this website have not yet let uswrite reviews for .Hack//Outbreak. If you read this than please put it up. Thank You

cool game24205

OMEGA from Herford NC USA says (27/May/2003):
I have to agree that this is a great game, however it is rather short. Although I do find it rather difficult to believe that anyone could beat it in four hours. I was lvl 42 when i beat the first game and it still took me about 13 hours to beat this one. Even if u were cheating i doubt u could beat this game in under 8 hours. That is unless u have found some way to turn back the game clock. The graphics for this game are smooth although not really top of the line. Gameplay can be pretty intense at times. Ive often found myself stuck between several mages casting to the point that i couldnt move. Thankfully i cast more than i attack mellee so was no biggie. Oh heres a lil tip some of the level 50 dungeons have statue treasure that respawns. Ive personnaly gotten statue treasure from the same dungeon 15 times. One in particular is : Lambda Great Hopeless SeaofSand another is: Lambda Great Hopeless March the seaofsand one's statue is on lvl 2 and very easy to get to the march one goes to a b5 and has some nasty stuff on b4 and 5 Something else people should know is just because a weapon or armour is higher lvl than another doesnt mean its better. It's often better to look for abilitys you want. I usually pick weapons with life drain or critical (both sometimes). So what if a weapon has 2 more attack than another, the one with the lower attack might have critical hit u might max out at say 130 dmg with the strong weapon and 115 with the weaker one but the weaker one can get a critical for around 230.

Definately a rental29195

Brett from Ft. Gordon, GA 30905 says (4/Aug/2003):
I would have to agree with one of the other postings about this game being one for the rental stores. I averaged about 16 hours on this on hack/mutation. The storyline is intense, the dungeons are exactly the opposite (roughly the samething over and over with about 7 different types of dungeons). One of the good bonuses is that all the extras you opened up in the first one ie movies, wallpaper, bgm's, etc... are able to be watched from the second game. If you do spend the extra time after you beat it and open up the books you will notice why you have to wait until after you beat the game in order to watch the movies. I opened up the first 4 movies as soon as I started with the data from beating the first one. If your into games that excel in storyline and not the graphic diversity during the progress of the game, you'll love this one.
playability-9
graphics-7 (mostly from the repetition of dungeon styles) otherwise would give it a 9
storyline-9
music-7 (most of the 90% of the good stuff is boss music)
view-9 (love adjustable cameras)

Addicting but a rip-off35223

Damien from Texas, US says (12/Nov/2003):
   .hack//Mutation(Part 2)
The .hack game series completely changed my point of view from what I had from the anime series: .hack//SIGN. It is a great game, however, I am extremely dissapointed in the lengths of the games. The Server: Carmina Gatelica that you reach in Mutation was an extreme dissapointment. I was hoping for a huge, massive, detailed city like in the anime series. Same with all the servers. ^^'
At the moment, I am at the boss of the game after playing it for LESS THAN TWO WEEKS! That's rediculious people! I mean, I am a huge fan of .hack, but I expected much more from these games. I do have a couple hints/cheats to tell you about the grunties.

Here is how to make a poison grunty in Beta Server:
11 golden eggs,6 piney apples,6 Snakey Cactuses,1 immature egg.
First feed the Last three. Then give the Golden eggs because I might be off a little. I knew how to make a Snakey grunty, but forgot.
Bottom line: .hack//Mutation is a good game that deserves to be mentioned.

Definitely the best!!! XDXDXD41452

Chrys Kaisami XD from Garland, TX, USA says (24/Jun/2004):
I was always tempted to try and online multiplayer game, but most games start at $20 to buy and then it costs at least $10 a month to play. The great thing about .hack is that it immitates a MMORPG, yet, you don't have to pay the monthly fee. Sure if you want to pay $20/mo to play online there are plenty of site to throw your money at. But the entire .hack series is amazing. Each character is unique, every dungeon is unique (I can't imagine how long it took them to do that!), the graphics are amazing... What more can you possibly want from a vidoe game?! The story line is great so far...(I have only played through Mutation). The idea of the game is that you start at part 1, go to part 2, then 3, then 4 (see a pattern?). Every aspect of the game has been perfected foen to the side quests. This, as well as the other three games, will be one of the best video games for years to come!

Good, but not great24611

Ayanami from Prattville, USA says (2/Jun/2003):
.Hack mutation has the same affect as .Hack Infection with a few more goodies. You get a few new types of grunties. more equipment and items. ..But it's not that much of an inprovement. One thing that bothers me is how you can only save in towns or on your desktop. You can be going through a 5 floor level 40-something dungeon and be one room away from a Zeit Satue and die...then you have to do the entire thing over. And, unless your using speakers, the sound for the game will get screwy at some points because TV speakers can handle them well apperently. One great thing about Mutation is that you finally start seeing the tie-ins to .Hack//Sign. So it's a decent game but not anything great. It's too short to be $50 so I reccomend you just rent it if possible. You should be done by the 3rd or 4th day.

This series has me hooked29322

David Mills from Canada says (6/Aug/2003):
I love The Hack series. i have both infection and Mutation and so far it has been up to my gaming standards. It took me a long enough time to beat infection but i found that once i made a foolproof strategy to beat skeith i knew he would nt be as hard as other ppl claim him to be. But in total i find that mutation will bring more answers to the tabe and I can't wait to play the last 2 games cause I feel that now that im this far i must go all the way. Hack is a game that deserves to be played by everyone who wants a great storyline mixed with awsome characters so if anyone who reads this has a PS2 please go out and play this game. I find it will be worth your time like it has been mine.

an online game my ass!40716

u don't want to know from Illinois,USA says (1/May/2004):
It's a online game, but you can't play with Real players like for example an Illinois player can't team up with a player from Texas. If you just started this game without playing the frist one, You be confused. The graphics and plot are really the only thing going for this game. The only attack button is x, the square, Traiangle and circle are for menu purposes only. The only good thing about the gameplay is the game stops when issuing a command or skill like scacotto or Twrilling dark. If you don't play the frist one and wanted to play this game, you wouldn't know how to opperate and you would always be killed, even if you went to a Lv.14 dungeon and your at lV.30. this game sucks.

I go through the fields and dungeons and I can't stop playing!!!! I have almost completed it( Need to defeat Magus)
-_-' want to finish it!!!!! Well, I'm just saying this game is the best, but if they actually created "The World" for real, I think I'd crap my pants!!!So Cool!!!!!If it's just me that's sad this game is tight!!!!!!

P.S. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!! OBSESSION!!!!

it is the best game in the world to me!27390

Joshua15 from Pennsylvania/ USA says (7/Jul/2003):
This game is so awsome because the way it looks and I myself admit that the music is not great but the grapthics are pretty cool but one thing i noticed about this and other games about the enemy bosses is the size of them like in mutation cubia is the biggest one he should have took maguses place as the final boss of part two because magus is so easy but other than that i like the grunties ecspecially i already have a few known as poison grunty; snaky grunty ; noble grunty and bony grunty i like the snaky and bony grunties and poison too!!

Best game!!! No Doubt!36175

BArtman from FL,USA says (27/Nov/2003):
This game is probably the best RPG i have ever played nad probably the best story line i have ever come to play! Also from all the great graphics! I mean it feels like you are actually in the body of the outlaw player Kite and fighting the monsters in the online game"The World." But one of the best factors of this game is the ability to interact with all of the other players. i mean who would have thought to let the computer players send bios on themselves and then you reply back. i mean that is so cool!!!!This game is a must buy.

The best game on the market.33353

The keeper of the underworld from Utah US says (12/Oct/2003):
This game is the best due to the mutiple charecters and the graphics not to mention the story line. The charecter personalites and in the emails you get background info on them. this is by far the best. There are few games that can equal the greatness of this game no matter what type they are. This game is rather realistic when it comes to trading because of the fact that it all depends on value and rarity. peace to you all

MHM THAS RIGHT27712

Teratundra from Cartersville GA, USA says (12/Jul/2003):
First of all Im a huge fan of RPG games especially MMORPG's. If you like playing games like FF or Chilren of the Atom, you'll definatly LOVE this game. I liked it because of it's flawless transitions, and because the depth of the game is soooo intense, you'll think you've died and gone straight to heaven. Although not much an improvement from the first .hack, infection, it's still a great game to play even if you don't like RPG's.

An amazing game!!!25495

~*fairy_girl*~ from USA says (15/Jun/2003):
.hack/mutation is a wonderful game, and it is very adictive! Anyone who likes to sit down for hours and explore mysterious dungeons, should play this game! I haven't had this game for long, but it is by far one of the BEST games I have ever played!!! The only bad thing is that it gets REALY hard, and I data drain too much, so it's usualy game over for me =)...but in conclusion, I *LOVE* this game!!!

The BEST GAME EVER!!34300

ANthony from USA says (28/Oct/2003):
I highly recomend this game. Also infection is a must have. The Graphics were great! Very long & fun. The long hours walking in the fields is what I thought was the worst part of the whole entire game. The new features are really nice. Like the new Hacking feature is tight! Data Draining enemies & Gate hacking into protected ares. The Characters like Kite are really cool. You've got

Faye the Dark Fairy from Lakeville,USA says (23/Jun/2003):
.hack//Mutation was the greatest game I have ever played! It really caught me off guard when I played it. I turned it on, then the next thing you know, WHOOSH! I was addicted! The Grunty Races are kind of hard though. Why the heck am I not suprised to see Balmung of the Azure Sky in first place?!?!?! Hey, even a fairy needs to have fun sometimes, right?
