An amazing game!!!25495

~*fairy_girl*~ from USA says (15/Jun/2003):
.hack/mutation is a wonderful game, and it is very adictive! Anyone who likes to sit down for hours and explore mysterious dungeons, should play this game! I haven't had this game for long, but it is by far one of the BEST games I have ever played!!! The only bad thing is that it gets REALY hard, and I data drain too much, so it's usualy game over for me =)...but in conclusion, I *LOVE* this game!!!

Love those Grunties24897

skeether from Vancouver, WA says (7/Jun/2003):
  .hack/MUTATION (part 2):
Where do I begin? This is the second part of the .hack series. With the last two titles due out before the end of the year, and the first having come out earlier this year, I was to say the least, excited. After the first couple of troubling hours on part 1 (INFECTION), I grew to loving this game and its unique approach to online/offline gaming. And I love those grunties.
For those of you who haven’t gotten INFECTION yet, don’t buy MUTATION until you’ve played the first. This game happens in succession, which means you have to play all of them and in order for the story to make sense.
Story:
MUTATION begins where INFECTION left off. I won’t say anything because the story is the driving force in the game. While playing it is fun in itself, the story is what keeps everything going.
Again you are playing as a person playing an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). The e-mail system is still there and is still a treat. In part 2 however, you learn that the other characters your teammates will like you more if you give them lots of gifts, or a few rare or expensive ones (just like real people!). The more they like you, the more e-mails they will send you.
Gameplay:
MUTATION boasts the same controls as the first installment, but since most players will have gotten used to these, you probably won’t die as much. I only died a few times, and they were all my fault. Not paying attention or going to a place with enemies much stronger than you will get you dead in quite a hurry.
Spells and items get stronger and more expensive, but you have the money to spend. Throughout the course of MUTATION, you’ll notice that your HP seems to stedily increase, but still you are losing it at much the same rate. Nothing wrong with that, but I think I prefer the larger numbers to the smaller ones.
Graphics:
Same as INFECTION, but still fun to look at.
Sound:
Unfortunately, the music for the unnecessary dungeons, where you train, is more or less the same. While good for the mood they set, the limited tunes do start to grow old. The boss battles still have the best music, and I am glad for that. The sound effects are of good quality, and I think that the English voices are a little better than in the first game.
Replayability:
Not much replay value here, but the bonus stuff once you beat the game is nice, but I wish that BANDAI had put just a little more effort into this aspect.
For me, my favorite BGM to have playing on my desktop in BGM 12. Don’t ask me why, but I really enjoy the light, happy mood the Mr. Panta song projects.
Overview:
MUTATION is an excellent sequel to INFECTION and with the purchase of this game, you get a $5 rebate coupon, for .hack//OUTBREAK, in the instruction manual.
I like this game a lot and the story gets deeper and much more interesting than it already was. Congratulations to BANDAI on making an excellent story here.

Good, but not great24611

Ayanami from Prattville, USA says (2/Jun/2003):
.Hack mutation has the same affect as .Hack Infection with a few more goodies. You get a few new types of grunties. more equipment and items. ..But it's not that much of an inprovement. One thing that bothers me is how you can only save in towns or on your desktop. You can be going through a 5 floor level 40-something dungeon and be one room away from a Zeit Satue and die...then you have to do the entire thing over. And, unless your using speakers, the sound for the game will get screwy at some points because TV speakers can handle them well apperently. One great thing about Mutation is that you finally start seeing the tie-ins to .Hack//Sign. So it's a decent game but not anything great. It's too short to be $50 so I reccomend you just rent it if possible. You should be done by the 3rd or 4th day.

cool game24205

OMEGA from Herford NC USA says (27/May/2003):
I have to agree that this is a great game, however it is rather short. Although I do find it rather difficult to believe that anyone could beat it in four hours. I was lvl 42 when i beat the first game and it still took me about 13 hours to beat this one. Even if u were cheating i doubt u could beat this game in under 8 hours. That is unless u have found some way to turn back the game clock. The graphics for this game are smooth although not really top of the line. Gameplay can be pretty intense at times. Ive often found myself stuck between several mages casting to the point that i couldnt move. Thankfully i cast more than i attack mellee so was no biggie. Oh heres a lil tip some of the level 50 dungeons have statue treasure that respawns. Ive personnaly gotten statue treasure from the same dungeon 15 times. One in particular is : Lambda Great Hopeless SeaofSand another is: Lambda Great Hopeless March the seaofsand one's statue is on lvl 2 and very easy to get to the march one goes to a b5 and has some nasty stuff on b4 and 5 Something else people should know is just because a weapon or armour is higher lvl than another doesnt mean its better. It's often better to look for abilitys you want. I usually pick weapons with life drain or critical (both sometimes). So what if a weapon has 2 more attack than another, the one with the lower attack might have critical hit u might max out at say 130 dmg with the strong weapon and 115 with the weaker one but the weaker one can get a critical for around 230.

Blah23816

A gamer from Michigan, USA says (21/May/2003):
the game is by no doubt good, but it is way to shrt and i beat it in about 4 hours, and if u ask me, that's terrible. the dungeons also should have been worked on a litle bit more because they didn't changefrom the first one at all. but overall it was a fairly well made game.

AWESOME23355

Chadd Temple from Centerburg, Ohio, USA says (13/May/2003):
This game is great because it makes a flawless transition from the first to the second. Even if the gameplay is roughly the same it is still an awesome game. If Bandai keeps this up for the remaining parts of the series it will one of the best rpgs I have played. I can't wait for the next one.
