don't whine, practice.34875

Mungo from West Village, NYC says (7/Nov/2003):
This game is amazing. Stop complaining that you fumble too much and that you throw too many interceptions.

If you fumble a lot, it's likely because the defense is trying to strip the ball while you're sprinting. Think about a real player. When he gets hit, he covers up and protects the ball. He doesn't start stiff-arming and spinning around.

Don't throw impossible passes, and you won't be intercepted. If your WR has a step, but the DB is faster (and baiting you into throwing), you might throw an interception.

If you're throwing for 500 yards, try upping the level. If it's already up, try putting on the accelerated game clock. Also, real NFL teams don't choose from 1 of 10 plays as soon as they get tackled, and then snap the ball as soon as they get to the line. Unless you're behind, take time to read the defense, tweak your routes, put a receiver in motion to add a blocker or see if the D is in man or zone, etc. You don't need to play the, "let me see how many plays I can run" game.

Vick is amazing in Madden 2004. Vick is amazing in the NFL (when he's not injured). Deal with it. Put a fast spy on him. Why do you think he's on the cover of the box? Because he's good at football. You can beat him if you are creative. Don't always run the same play. The AI will figure it out.

This game is amazing if you put the time in to practice. Draft your own team --- get Vick if you want. Don't complain when he leaves for more money. Most NFL players would.

Enjoy!

Arguably The Best Game Out There37932

Adrian from Carthage,Texas,USA says (4/Jan/2004):
Madden 2004 is a solid game and should be added to anyone's collection who is interested in REALISTIC sports. If you have played any of the past Madden Football games it should not be too hard, but just as all the others,it is still challenging. There are many new features such as playmaker control, owner mode(my personal favorite),and the training camp in off-season.The graphics are even more beautiful than ever before.Even though it sometimes sounds like John Madden is rambling, the announcing is still pretty good. There is no better sound than big hits on this game and when there is a big hit the sound is crystal clear. The gameplay is great, but the game still has too many turnovers and defensive touchdowns. It is unbelievably fun.The gameplay is pretty much the same as last year's madden, except it has playmaker control, and new rosters. If you really know a lot about the NFL owner mode is definitely the thing for you.I don't mean to brag but I love owner mode.If you dont really know much about the NFL then you might rather buy another game.Since I'm through with this review I guess I'll make a point about my favorite team.COWBOY FANS STOP JUMPING ON QUINCY AND WORRY ABOUT TROY HAMBRICK and the D-Line!!!

Best Football game around!!35201

speedy3743 from Fargo, ND says (12/Nov/2003):
Madden 2004 by far the most realistic gameplays ever..All the people complaining about throwing interceptions, learn to run the ball, it isn't that hard to do, even if you only get a few yards at a crack. Then you can throw in a play action and its easy picking. But yes sometimes it won't work and you'll get burnt by a DB staying home. Also use your hot routes to your advantage if you see a DB backing off a reciever have him do a 5 yard hook. This game isn't like previous madden games where it was fun and gun..This is like real football take what the defense gives you..
All in all, madden is a great game for anyone that knows or what to learn about how football should really be played.

Madden 200441290

gymrat101 from seattle Wa says (14/Jun/2004):
Fist of all I would like to say great game most realistic football game I have ever played. I have read alot of other people reviews and most of them are very helpful. People please, playing online,If your are going to quit everytime you are losing or need to cheat, sell your game and buy socom.I am not a gamer at all but I take my losses without quitting you should to, i lost a game the other night by 50 and still did't quit, I know I makes for a long game but deal with it please. When I started about 3 months ago the mini-camp drills seemed impossible with a little practice the are getting better all madden is hard but quess what practice. Stop complaning how hard it is. The fist game I played was on all-pro I threw 12 int's Fumbled 4 times and lost by 50. Know i throw about 2 int's 0 fumbles and I just one my 4th straight superbowl on all-pro, all madden is still to hard, but thats why u practice. Well anyway that was probally to long, but i have to go, Ps use broadband i play with dial-up it suckes espesally for newbies like myself.
I like to play win or loss augest I will have broadband so If you want some close games mabey losses my name is below.

thanks

Madden 2004 rules the PS2 sports world!33738

Frank from Oklahoma, USA says (19/Oct/2003):
I really enjoy playing this game. It has been a learning experience to say the least. My first season, I too gave up 500+ yards a game. In my third season in owners mode, my offense and defense are both in 1st. So far, I haven't cheated yet, because if you play the game realistically, you don't have too. The AI will never be smarter than a human. One of the changes I like the most from previous versions is the computer not throwing on every down after it gets behind. I also like the fact that the computer punts on 4th down even when its loosing. The only thing I don't like about the game is a section of the off season. In 2003, you could sign free agents before you went to the draft. I don't like drafting before signing, I son't have any money left to sign. I also don't care for the number of required players by position. I don't need 3 quarterbacks, or 3 RB's. But oh well, it's part of the game. A suggestion or two- make the game off season where you are notified that a coach or assistant has been offered more money, has retired, or been fired-If I am the owner, I should get to have a say in the process. For the cost of the game, the booklet should be more informative, or there should be a place to get answers to questions that doesn't cost a fortune. Over all, major thumbs up, I really love this game.

W O W36506

Madden04rocks from USA! says (2/Dec/2003):
This is the best sports game i have ever played in my life. The franchise mode is awesome how you can set prices, but the gameplay is awesome. The game is very realistic, and the soundtrack is the best in ANY game. If you have the network adapter and can play online, its even better. If you don't have this game, don't be afraid to buy it. Online is hard, but even so its addicting. I give it tens stars. Please if you dont have it go out and buy it, you will not be disappointed, i promise. Its a football fans dream.... Another cool thing is that if you have online, you can update the rosters and its cool b/c those rosters go offline too. Headset is good for it too, though i dont have one yet, im gonna buy one. The playmakers are cool, but the best part is that you can do soooo much on defense such as shifting the corner backs and safetys to tighter D, or loosing them up for a pass. You can do the same w/ linebackers, but you can move them up for a blitz or back for a cover. AND the defensive line can tighten up or loosen out. Its so cool. buy it

My thoughts35287

sean from Winnipeg,Manitoba,Canada says (13/Nov/2003):
Madden 2004 is sooooooooooooooooooooo great i got it like 2 weeks ago and i always play after school the graphics are great but there should be more of the peniltys because i would like to see randy moss take a taughting penilty or they start fighting but...I like the fourth quarter comebacks when i do them lol its not immpossible to win is your down by 3 td or more i was the falcons(because of Vick)after i made Vicks overall 84 and shockeys 88 i came back after giving up my first pass for a int and down 4 td at the end of the 1st i came back to win anywhy so why do people complain its just a game its soooooooooooooooooooooooo boring if you win all the time. this is a must buy game.

Still the best30170

A gamer from columbia, SC, USA says (15/Aug/2003):
Madden 2004 is the best football game I've ever played. I will agree that the soundtrack is annoying, but you can switch songs on almost every screen by pressing and holding square and pressing R1 or L1. I just wish there were more creat-a-team jersey, helmet, and pant designs. It's still great!

Awesome30279

A gamer from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA says (16/Aug/2003):
This is one of the best games ive ever played. It is absolutely flawless. On top of great gameplay, the playmaker control is off the heazy!!!! You can change your safety to cheat on the reciever, you can change your "go to guy" route in a flash..... This is an awesome game. Also, the ability to play as the NFL Europe teams adds alot of depth to Madden that it didn't used to have. As well as the playmaker control, and the NFL Europe teams, the new Owner Mode makes this THE deepest game I have ever seen, or ever played. I think it is so cool that you can set the price of your concessions!!!! That just blows my mind. Another extra added to this year's games are the EA Sports Bio. I beleive that EA Sports is smart to have a thing where you can unlock secrets to other games by just playing one or two of the new titles. Additionally, the Create-a-Team feature is a really cool way of taking the create-a-player mode one step farther. Finally, here is my table of scores for Madden 2004 in 5 categories, 10 being the best, 1 being the worst:

Gameplay:10
Sound:10
Graphics:10
Commentary:10
Replay Value:10

Average: 10{best}

Getting closer to where we want it!30434

dazzy from Minneapolis (MN) USA says (18/Aug/2003):
Let me say first and foremost, that Madden 2004 is a great game. The new owner mode is great and the salary escalations are very realisitc. It makes it very complicated, however.
I agree with the users that say there are some problems with this game. I am glad I can finally edit the names on my 98 Vikings, but what is with the fake numbers? That is dumb. We all know that Cris Carter was number 80, don't label him as #3.
How come every tackle looks the same? Guys never land on there stomachs when they are tackled. (Unless they want the wind knocked out of them.)
I love the other reviewer's idea of having highlights from other games. If they are having trouble finding guys to lend their voices, hire me! I'll work for peanuts!
Thanks for putting Vick on the cover, cuz I love to see the Falcons go down! Will you put Warren Sapp or Derrick Brooks on next year? I want to see the Bucs falter.
Overall, the game is great, but some of the popups are annoying. Sometimes I don't want to see my total yardage, just the route that my fullback is running.
Where's Lisa Guerrero? Forget Melissa Stark. She's Pregers...
I love being able to hire and fire my coaches. Great feature.
Like I said, this is a great game and close to being exactly where I want it. I want my options in my create a team and uniform modification, but I can see myself playing this game right until Madden 2005 comes out!

You can't handle the truth!!!31022

Will "The Thrill" Gordon,II from Dallas,USA says (25/Aug/2003):
All these whiners talking about these ints and fums are just amateurs and they are not ready for the realistic features in this Madden. No, the computer is not easy. No, your receiver is not going to automatically catch any catch you throw up. No, your back isn't going to keep the ball if he's covered by 6 defenders. One solution: DEAL WITH IT MAN!!! Take your game and polish it up at practice or something, because the same crap that worked on NES isn't going to work these days losers. Madden deserves 10 stars man because the franchise mode is perfect, the new owner mode is unbelieveable, I love the mew EA Sports Bio to keep up with how bad I kill my opponets, and finally, beginners can't master the game in a few hours, it takes a little elbow grease now buddy boy, so get some kool-aid and some cheetos, get a fresh memory card, cut out the lights, turn on the big screen, and begin a great dynasty in the most entertaining football game since Tecmo Bowl on Super-NES!!!

Madden is still the best, but could use some tips from the 2K Series31516

Randy from Thornton, CO. USA says (2/Sep/2003):
Over all the years, and all the football games out there nothing tops the playabillity of MADDEN's. I've loved every version but there are just a couple of features, I would like to see. The music in the menu screen, it can be turned off so they don't bother me, but I don't care for it in the game. I would like to hear the "HEY" song when I score a touch down, like they do in the 2K series. I like the week wrap up and the whole ESPN setting on the 2K series and would like to see something simular with Madden. The commentary is better then it has been this year, but I would like to hear about who is subing in and out. Like if Ashlie Lelie checks in to the game for Eddie Mac, It would be cool to hear about it. I think it would be a cool feature and would livin up the commentary. The annoucing does get bland after awhile. They should do a MONDAY NIGHT Football feature, and make Monday Night games a bigger deal then all the rest of the games. If they could do an ABC Monday Night football layout, and make it feel more like a big nationally televised game.
As far as game play goes, I am not a big fan of the play maker control, when running the ball, but I do like it when passing. I do not care for going through the preseason, before I start a franchise season, but I think it is a cool feature. The game is tough and hard to get used to, but I think it is the closest to the real thing then anything out there.
My biggest bone to pick is, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WHIP MAN DEFENCE???? I miss it!!

More like Madden 2004 the best football there is ever going to be.32657

CHRIS SMITH from Oklahoma, USA says (29/Sep/2003):
This is really good game to me because of the graphics and everything else they added to it. Because I use to have the old 2003 game and it is no match for the 2004.I created my own team, turned off the cap penaltys, and salarey cap. Then I was off to create all my own players it's cool, but man it took a long ass time.John man you should see my team, field, and stadium because nobody beats it.I got B.Billick for my offense coach and 4-3 for my main defense. And anybody that wants to vs. me just bring it on.But first tell me how to get my online adapter to work. Then I'll run you in the ground. My created team's name is American Eagles.Right now I'm playing on All-American, but anything you want to play me on it's fine with me. My record 16-0-0 and I'm about to win the Super Bowl again 2-0 baby all the way!

Randy's a moron32966

Just a Madden fan from New Mexico says (5/Oct/2003):
I started reading these reviews just to see if people were having the same problems I am or if it's just me and I have got to say that Randy from Milwaukee has given the dumbest review by far. For one buddy, the only reason your DB's have 10 interceptions each and both your safeties have 6 or 7 is because you cheated. It's a little something called A.I. Why don't you be a man and play the game with the A.I. down and then we'll see if they still get that many interceptions. Anyways, the game is great. It's not as good as I was hoping just because the 500 passing yards the computer throws a game on me really stings my defensive ranking but other than that, it keeps me hooked. I'm looking forward to Madden 2005. I'm hoping they make improvements on the passing defense side of the game but stick with the Owner mode. I don't want the best defense, I just want a defense that produces decent numbers so that my guys can improve. Anyways, the game's worth the investment, just don't expect to have a super defense unless you cheat like our dear friend Randy.

Good but needs some tweeking!33602

Charles (Big Papa) from St. Louis, Missouri USA says (18/Oct/2003):
Madden 2004 is good but could be better. I'm talking about the section where you put together your own playbook from the best plays of the other team's playbook. When you do this, the game will switch your players around. It might switch your punter and have him playing defensive end and your defensive end punting. It might have your Quarterback running punts and kickoffs. It will have some offensive players playing defence and visa versa. Once this is fixed, it will be the best.

salary cap?34031

xplo$iv from Missoula, MT says (25/Oct/2003):
Me and my buddies(3 or 4 of us) use to love picking our whole team from scratch on Madden 03 sometimes, but with not being able to turn the salary cap off it is not possible on 04, also if you go to tournement and choose fantasy style you only get to choose players from the teams you select to be in the tourney and not the whole league.:(

Madden 2004 is the best football game ever made!34948

Joshua Winfrey from Memphis ,Tennessee(United States) says (8/Nov/2003):
Madden 2004 is the best game ever in my opinion because it brings the real game inside your home. It feels like you are really in the game. I like the editions in the edit player column. The main thing I like about this game is that it really uses the teams playbook. They have special plays for certain people on your team! EA Sports has really outdone themselves!!
