The Greatest |
| Bob from Attleboro,MA says (3/Nov/2003): |
Ok to start i wanna say that even tho ESPN Football(NFL 2K4) is a great game madden still kicks the crap out of it maybe u like to break tackles easily or w/e it is too easy to break a tackle or get an INT.Madden is just more realistic and is more into the game as franchise mode goes and I love the new owner mode but the one feature i like from ESPN is the first person mode if madden had that nuthin could catch it ever.Thankx and i cant wait till the next game comes out in 2005 l8r.

Game has no flaws. |
| Arron Goodin from Chico, CA says (1/Nov/2003): |
This game is great but for a lay player I could see how they might be frustrated at how computer teams do so well against them. I have been playing for six seasons now and I have gotten my team to the top of the NFL. My DBs are the best in the league and so are my linebackers at pass defense. You really have to know a thing or two about how the game of football works as far as the chess game side of it. If you understand how to mix up zones and man to man effectively you can defend any passing team. Keeping teams down on defense and running effectively on offense just requires knowing when to call the right plays. But this is the most realistic football game in the world, so it plays like it. Thats it! It is perfect in my opinion.

Very good, small things need to be looked at but great game!!!!!!! |
| ROB from Madden lane..... says (28/Oct/2003): |
I play online everyday..And there are some things that need to be fixed:like hurry-up offence! Why make the team that is hurrying up..... ofsides?..every third time?..I'm a ranked team on line (ROBTHEBEAST1)...And the thing that pis everyone off is the QUITERS!!!!!!Madden needs to kick that screen name off for good, not give them 4 new screen names....why give somebody a tie? if the other guy getting his ^%^^%^# kicked, he quits and all that time for nothing!!!And to reply to the guy who said you guy need to just play the game . 4 fumbles and 4 int. are part of the game ....What game are you watching on Sunday chump!.If you have any problems about playing madden 2004 ? see me on line!!ROBTHEBEAST1...And i'll show you chumps how to play!!!!!!!

Salary Cap Turn off |
| Mike from Lake Charles, La says (27/Oct/2003): |
Me and my buddies figured out how to turn salary cap off. first you need to creat a player and make him all 99's. while your creating him put him on a team with less than 7 million left in cap room. after you create him it will pop up a screen that it will disable salary cap for all teams. push a and then go to the team that you put him on and relase him. if you save that to your memory card it will turn salary cap off for all of your teams.

great, but some people are waaaay under and over rated |
| Jon from Tampa Florida USA says (27/Oct/2003): |
first off, im a huge bucs fan and after the super bowl win i was almost positive that there D would be atleast 3 points ahead of anyone else. then i find out that miami is a point better?? come on! plus with the roster updates via online, they make the bucs defense even worse! argh! anyways, everything seems to be the same as 03 except that you cant just run up the middle with no blockers and get 5 yards. and i like that. one other thing that i dont like is the catch-up AI. if im up 13-0 with 3 minutes left in the 4th i dont want to win 16-13 in OT just because of some new AI feature that lets the person/CPU thats behind catch up easily. it makes my stats look bad, and i know stats are for dummies, but with out good stats the players lose points in the ratings and i dont play as good. One last thing i got to say, im tired of these 7-9 8-8 or 9-7 teams that are unbeatable. earlier today i was playing buffalo and they ran and passed all over my defense. we all know buffalo wouldnt beat the bucs in the real game. thats all i got to say and if you have any comments or want to play me online email me at stonecolddale3< remove me > at hotmail.com.
hopefully EA will make better decisions when making the teams next year.

salary cap? |
| xplo$iv from Missoula, MT says (25/Oct/2003): |
Me and my buddies(3 or 4 of us) use to love picking our whole team from scratch on Madden 03 sometimes, but with not being able to turn the salary cap off it is not possible on 04, also if you go to tournement and choose fantasy style you only get to choose players from the teams you select to be in the tourney and not the whole league.:(

Madden 2004 rules the PS2 sports world! |
| Frank from Oklahoma, USA says (19/Oct/2003): |
I really enjoy playing this game. It has been a learning experience to say the least. My first season, I too gave up 500+ yards a game. In my third season in owners mode, my offense and defense are both in 1st. So far, I haven't cheated yet, because if you play the game realistically, you don't have too. The AI will never be smarter than a human. One of the changes I like the most from previous versions is the computer not throwing on every down after it gets behind. I also like the fact that the computer punts on 4th down even when its loosing. The only thing I don't like about the game is a section of the off season. In 2003, you could sign free agents before you went to the draft. I don't like drafting before signing, I son't have any money left to sign. I also don't care for the number of required players by position. I don't need 3 quarterbacks, or 3 RB's. But oh well, it's part of the game. A suggestion or two- make the game off season where you are notified that a coach or assistant has been offered more money, has retired, or been fired-If I am the owner, I should get to have a say in the process. For the cost of the game, the booklet should be more informative, or there should be a place to get answers to questions that doesn't cost a fortune. Over all, major thumbs up, I really love this game.

Good but needs some tweeking! |
| Charles (Big Papa) from St. Louis, Missouri USA says (18/Oct/2003): |
Madden 2004 is good but could be better. I'm talking about the section where you put together your own playbook from the best plays of the other team's playbook. When you do this, the game will switch your players around. It might switch your punter and have him playing defensive end and your defensive end punting. It might have your Quarterback running punts and kickoffs. It will have some offensive players playing defence and visa versa. Once this is fixed, it will be the best.

an englishman review |
| Matt Potts from London says (16/Oct/2003): |
what can i say 3 years ago i bought a 2nd copy of madden 2001
and became hooked on what is tactically the best sports game in the world, now i have 2 fantasy football teams what about 6 hours of games a week and play madden 2 or 3 times a week min.
as to the review im amazed that most of you guys dont play on all madden myself i love kicking a winning field goal with 7 secs left or grinding out 32 yards in 4 mins to wind down the clock or loseing whats the point of destroying everyone u play 70-3 by tweaking the ai i found i could garantee at least 6 close games a season
every now and then i get blown out but that just makes me work harder next game
so to summarise very very very deep game play this game has taught me every little aspect of the real game (it took me 2 years to figure out what injured reserve was- u may laugh)hugh amount of replay value and with 30 years of franchise and owners mode u can play everyday till madden 2005 is out

Not realistic, fun for an hour...stupid... |
| Johnny Mack from New York, USA says (11/Oct/2003): |
The game seems to force fumbles and read Defence really well when it's behind and get excessive interceptions. Also Some teams read running plays to well to make a single run against them. The game kinda sucks and as the graphics get better the gameplay gets worse. I got the game becaue I really liked an older version I had. Bottom line, get the new FIFA pass and don't rush out to get madden 2004

great game! |
| DS from Las Vegas, NV says (9/Oct/2003): |
this is a great game but the computer can be very cheap. i created a HB with a 99 rating across the board, but he fumbled more times than anyone during the entire season. kind of irritating. i love the franchise mode though. i won the superbowl with the chargers then packed up the team and moved them to vegas. what a trip!! i also find the madden cards to be quite a relief from the cheapness of the computer. i saved them all up untill i got to the superbowl and got my revenge. i won 215 to 0 and set the record with a 93 yard field goal.

playmakers great! |
| DS from Las Vegas, NV says (9/Oct/2003): |
i love being able to change your hot recivers route. works great when your running game has brought up the d and you want to drop the bomb on the CB. id like to be able to change any of my recivers routes though. also the playmakers great for the run. being able to reverse your play at the line is a great way to avoid a stacked D. and if you want to avoid int and sacks dont pass as much. if you've got a decent line and a FB who can run people over, your HB can run anywhere. also make sure you've got some kind of screen or flat pattern in your audible to run if you see the blitz is coming. another great feature is knowing what the opposing offense is setting up, so you can call the right formation.

Great game still needs improving |
| adam from White bear lake, Minnesota says (7/Oct/2003): |
i am in my 7th season already, i love the game and being in the owner mode and dealing with the salary cap is great. the few things that really bother me is that the computers offense can pass for 500+ yards a game no matter what. but it is really easy to hold the computers rushing, i dont get it. maybe that is just me being great at rush defense and not at the passing.
and i have also noticed that when i am leading by over 14 points my interception rate goes way down. every ball that goes into the hands of my defense gets dropped cuz i am ahead? i usually play on allpro and win every game next season ill move to all madden.
one last thing is the salary for the players. with training camp it is great but if i get a 5-7 points for a player and he does good that same year i have to pay him a ton of money. i dont like the fact i do great with a young player for 2 years and he holds out for 12 million a year. i really wanted to play with mike vick but that is almost impossible with a 15-20 million dollars a year to keep him. but if you use a bad player in the traning camp they cant get any points anyway.
and what is with some of my guys losing 10 points on their overall rating for just not getting enough touches or something. i can see losing maybe one point but to totally waste a player from just one year of not being as productive is crazy.

Receiver Celebrations... |
| rodney from woodbridge va says (6/Oct/2003): |
I enjoy watching the celebrations after first downs, a good run or catch. Also on defense the display of demonination. But what I would like to see is the receivers running up to the stands and jump into the crowd...now that would piss my opponents off.
Also the issue of the review, it still needs a little work. And why are there different numbers for the historic players. I mean everyone plays this and the peeps should be glad that there are still fans out there that remember those old players and there skills. Use the same numbers, come on oldies represent yourself.

Madden the Game of Games |
| Roc02 from Washington, DC says (6/Oct/2003): |
Madden 2004 is the game of games. I love this game, it is more realistic with the awesome playmaker calling. The jump and catch is awesome. I play with the Washington Redskins and I belive they are the best team on the game. They have a great defense and they're offense is quick striking. Overall Madden is a better game. I am glued to the T.V. playing it. I m a college football player with a tremendous football mind. If you do not have a football background then don't even face me. The graphics and computer A.I. is off the hook, and I plan on winning this years madden tournament.

Randy's a moron |
| Just a Madden fan from New Mexico says (5/Oct/2003): |
I started reading these reviews just to see if people were having the same problems I am or if it's just me and I have got to say that Randy from Milwaukee has given the dumbest review by far. For one buddy, the only reason your DB's have 10 interceptions each and both your safeties have 6 or 7 is because you cheated. It's a little something called A.I. Why don't you be a man and play the game with the A.I. down and then we'll see if they still get that many interceptions. Anyways, the game is great. It's not as good as I was hoping just because the 500 passing yards the computer throws a game on me really stings my defensive ranking but other than that, it keeps me hooked. I'm looking forward to Madden 2005. I'm hoping they make improvements on the passing defense side of the game but stick with the Owner mode. I don't want the best defense, I just want a defense that produces decent numbers so that my guys can improve. Anyways, the game's worth the investment, just don't expect to have a super defense unless you cheat like our dear friend Randy.

Finally A Defence You Can be Proud Of. |
| MC from United Kingdom says (29/Sep/2003): |
A vast improvement on last years release. 2003 was good but if you really trashed the opposition you ended up being penalised fumbling on returns etc. so they could get back in the game. Finally with 2004 the AI on defence has been stepped up to deal with the aerial attacks. I love the Owners Mode and look forward to guiding The New York Jets to Superbowl victory. God I love this game!

More like Madden 2004 the best football there is ever going to be. |
| CHRIS SMITH from Oklahoma, USA says (29/Sep/2003): |
This is really good game to me because of the graphics and everything else they added to it. Because I use to have the old 2003 game and it is no match for the 2004.I created my own team, turned off the cap penaltys, and salarey cap. Then I was off to create all my own players it's cool, but man it took a long ass time.John man you should see my team, field, and stadium because nobody beats it.I got B.Billick for my offense coach and 4-3 for my main defense. And anybody that wants to vs. me just bring it on.But first tell me how to get my online adapter to work. Then I'll run you in the ground. My created team's name is American Eagles.Right now I'm playing on All-American, but anything you want to play me on it's fine with me. My record 16-0-0 and I'm about to win the Super Bowl again 2-0 baby all the way!
|
Good but flawed |
| Phil from Chicago says (28/Sep/2003): |
I am sorry but when I am outplaying the computer I don't want to fumble 3 or 4 times to make it close. agreat game but it has lost some realistic play. Why penalize the guy who bought the game because he understands how football is played and can translate that into the gameplay?

BEST EVER!! |
| Dirk04 from Pittsburgh, PA, USA says (27/Sep/2003): |
Madden 2004 is the greatest sports game ever. Nothing comes even close. Although, there are some things I would like to see improved by next years release. Like in the NFL2K series, they really need a weekly wrap up, and a player of the week. And I would like to see the crowd, actually become 2 dimensional, at least!! Its just dumb-looking with all those 1 dimensional fans supposedly looking real,(although they're not). Another great new feature to Madden this year, is Owner Mode. It makes the Franchise mode quite interesting, and its cool how different places have different foods, and Fan Appreciation Day is pretty sweet! I also like designing your own stadium when you create a team, that is especially tight. Madden 2004 overall, is a great game and I cant wait for Madden 2005 to come out!
