Madden is the Best! |
| Bryan from Ohio says (20/Sep/2003): |
Madden 2004 is by far the best football game I have ever played. The whole owner mode is so awesome, the only thing I don't like about that is that it takes 180 blocks of memory, but oh well. It is so realistic too, for example- I was the Bengals (don't laugh, I like them) and Kitna threw 11 int's! And that is just like the real Jon Kitna! And for the first time, I got a call over turned with a challange! The crowd's are great, the graphics are amazing, and it's a game that I just can't seem to put down...Madden 2004 is the greatest game ever made!

It's Good |
| Joe from Wisconsin- Football Capital of the World says (17/Sep/2003): |
The best madden so far everything good, love owner mode and being able to sign former players as coaches. But cap penalties suck being charged 42 million just isnt good. Players wanting 10 million a year and they're not even starters isnt good either. But overall gameplay good stay in the pocket to avoid sacks pay attention to avoid interceptions and in my opinion when you can pass for 700 yards a game and score 80-100 points you don't need to run. One tip when its a new week turn up advertising play or simulate your game only turn it down and simulate the rest save over a million a week. Good Luck

Does any know football in here? |
| Best Game ever! from Catasauqua says (12/Sep/2003): |
You people who bitch and complain about ints, fumbles, 4th quarter comebacks or whatever you bitch about. Have you watch a football game lately? Besides Madden when was the last game you saw better yet the last time you played football for a team? 4th quarter comebacks are part of the game so are fumbles, ints, sacks, blitzes etc. If you don't know how to read a defense Yeah you could be in trouble playing madden. I read one review and said the playmaker control isn't worth it...BULL! Your QB feels pressure up the middle and rolls out. Your receivers do what? come back to you. Use the playmaker and put him to an open spot! That simple! But that must be too diffulcult for you people to figure out!

Nice Work Total domination |
| A gamer from Boston, USA says (12/Sep/2003): |
I recently got this game a while ago and palyed it non stop. It is by far the best football game I ever played. The graphics are good, but it would help if owner mode didn't have so many options. Like raising concessions and attendance charts. And even weekly stadium maintenance which you have to decide for in the budget. And also player salary so you see there is a lot of options. But overall it is good and the gameplay is spectacular. So i recommend that you get this game fast.

The one flaw in the simulation |
| A gamer from Bradenton, FL says (11/Sep/2003): |
There is one problem that i have with the last couple madden games and i was hoping that they fixed it in this years game but they didnt. That is the words that come on the screen when its forth down for example. That just completly ruins the possibility of this game being absolutely perfect.
On another note, the Owner mode is just incredible. I love the ability to sign a coach and watch them progress. The the owner mode mini-camp is also great. The better you are the better you can make your players become. My favorite is the catch ball mostly because its easy(in comparison) to get the full 7 points. Pocket Presence is another of my favorites. In madden 2003 i could get the gold in all-madden level but in this years its different. I struggle to get the gold in all-pro. The coffin corner punt is a little annoying. Besides all the good punters are old so really you are only progressing them for that one year. You can skip it if you want because none of the computer managed teams are able to progress their players in the mini-camp, which is another thing i like.
The graphics and animations are absolutely the best. You can change the camera angle so you are so close to the players and it still looks real if not more real. I am truly interested to see what the next video game systems are going to be able to do but i am not curious to see the price tag these systems are going to have because i have a scary suspision they are going to be a little more expensive than the PS2 was.
Anyways, if you dont own madden 2004 then you should buy it. Its spectacular.

All the complaining |
| Randy from Milwaukee, WI says (4/Sep/2003): |
I have read about 15-20 reviews and they seem like they're all the same, either you are good and your talking sh!t or your bad and talking sh!t about the game. For all the people who get sacked all the time I have Byron Leftwitch(45 speed) and get sacked 5 times a year and Johnathon Ogden has 75 pancakes in the first 8 games. (3 OTHER offensive lineman are in the probowl). So if you guys get sacked to much it's just you and you need to work on the pocket pressence drill. And you guys say that you can't get any interceptions on defense, I have the 5 DB's in the NFL best defensive backs and 3 cornerbacks, 2 safeties in the probowl(All 3 cornerbacks have 10 INT. or more, FS has 7, and SS has 6. The game has great game play and the new tackling is better although 2k3's is better, I like the commentary and new owner mode. One of the best things is that Peyton Manning calls audibles at the line if he doesn't like the coverage. This goes to everyone who leaves reviews and claims they are the best at Madden 2004 if it doesn't already exist lets get a Madden Tournament and see who is the best.

A marked Improvement.... |
| EarnThisFool from Little Rock, Arkansas says (4/Sep/2003): |
Another fine title form the EA franchise. I've read alot of these reviews and it seems to me most of you have three or four basic problems with the gameplay.
1)The pressure on your quarterback...While its almost neccessary to have a quarterback who can run, over 70 spd with good acceleration, if you don't fade back that far, and stay in the pocket the protection is better. When you drop back the D-Lineman, the fastest of the lineman, have almost a straight line to you, staying in the pocket cuts down on the angle. The hot routes are better this year and running that slant with the slot is easy money against a zone esp. w/ an LB blitzing. Interceptions are usually a player's fault, but sometimes are unavoidable. Try messing with the A.I if its too much of an ego threat.
2) The super team theory could be true, but if you've got a lead, don't throw it, switch your ball hand and kneel down, and yeah punt the ball if you've got to. Don't spin, don't try to break it outside and if you see seven CPU dfenders bearing down on you just turn around and divebackwards, especially if you've already got a first down.
3) The commentary hasn't ever been that good, how could it be, I'd imagine that in a few years, the commentary will catch up to the fabulous gameplay. But its not exactly feasible there's only so much room for speech files and Michaels and Madden have other stuff to do, as it is I think they spend whole days at a time voicing the names and comments for the game.
I think it would be nice if you could use more than one player in the training camp drills. Not many more, maybe just two or three...
Owner mode is fine, no complaints, its not "totally awesome" or whatever some of you have been saying but its fine.
My boy's and I imported the draft classes from NCAA 2004 to Madden and spent some time over a few days changing all the names, we used a college football preview issue that lists the players by name and number. Don't do it in the College game, do it after the draft in "View Roster" its easy and there aren't that many. Its an interesting experiment, and if you've got one person entering the names and another person reading them and you trade off it doesn't take that long at all. One hour a day for two days....hardly a commitment.

almost perfect |
| don from south bend, IN USA says (4/Sep/2003): |
I was pleasantly surprised by the changes made to this years Madden. All of the things Ive liked about previous Madden games remain intact like gameplay and a.i. plus a a new owner mode and more stats keeping.I really like the fact that you can view awards won by players like mvp etc. What I dont like is the high number of turnovers forced by the computer and the speed of computer def. lineman and linebackers.I have a created QB with a speed rating of 95 and was caught from behind by Hugh Douglas.Come on!Although I like the player progression I think its a little unrealistic. When the worse player in the NFL can be mvp in 2 seasons is just a little off to me.It also makes it impossible to stay under the cap because all your players want 30+ million come signing time. All in all its a great game.Next year i look for a better halftime show and NEW commentary.

Very realistic, still the best football |
| Louis from Lawrence, USA says (3/Sep/2003): |
Well, I must agree with everyone about Michael Vick's Godlike abiltiy, but there are ways to remedy that, i.e. QB spys. I don't like how I get crazy amounts of interceptions either, even on higher difficulty levels. Other than that there are many nice additions. Playmaker can be highly effective on defense and even on offense, though a little harder to block and still hold speed burst. Ownermode? Ok, so I'm a sucker for the Sims I guess, but I like how it's hard to make money, cause that's the way it is in real-life. Hint: blow out somebody the week before a home game and advertise the following week? You make more off of ticket sales than anything. A lot of owners lose their rear in the money department in real life.. Playonline I haven't tried though I'd love to if I had the time. Making a playbook isn't cheating but it might as well be. I still think it's awfully easy to make a running team merely by getting my fullback back-to-back 8 TD seasons. However, he seems to get run over by a 140lb corner now and then ??? Minicamp is pretty sweet, but maybe that's cause I like my guys to be better than the comps? It's still somewhat difficult to obtain all 7 points though, so a good challenge. No matter what, it's better than last year's and that's saying alot. And by the way, I'm a huge fan but I only reserve a 10 rating for games that are the best of the decade and I'm sure Madden 2005 will have something to say.

Madden is still the best, but could use some tips from the 2K Series |
| Randy from Thornton, CO. USA says (2/Sep/2003): |
Over all the years, and all the football games out there nothing tops the playabillity of MADDEN's. I've loved every version but there are just a couple of features, I would like to see. The music in the menu screen, it can be turned off so they don't bother me, but I don't care for it in the game. I would like to hear the "HEY" song when I score a touch down, like they do in the 2K series. I like the week wrap up and the whole ESPN setting on the 2K series and would like to see something simular with Madden. The commentary is better then it has been this year, but I would like to hear about who is subing in and out. Like if Ashlie Lelie checks in to the game for Eddie Mac, It would be cool to hear about it. I think it would be a cool feature and would livin up the commentary. The annoucing does get bland after awhile. They should do a MONDAY NIGHT Football feature, and make Monday Night games a bigger deal then all the rest of the games. If they could do an ABC Monday Night football layout, and make it feel more like a big nationally televised game.
As far as game play goes, I am not a big fan of the play maker control, when running the ball, but I do like it when passing. I do not care for going through the preseason, before I start a franchise season, but I think it is a cool feature. The game is tough and hard to get used to, but I think it is the closest to the real thing then anything out there.
My biggest bone to pick is, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WHIP MAN DEFENCE???? I miss it!!

Madden 2004 Online |
| Cedric Smith from Philadelphia, USA says (2/Sep/2003): |
I admit Madden 2004 is one of the greatest games i ever played but, the online feature sucks!!!!. Because u can't challenge plays and people always quit. But the good part about it is that u get a rank. U can be number 1 in the country or number 10001 in the country. I admit there are some good players online but there are not that many fair players online. Sure the new Fair Play settings work. But people still Quit. And that is the bad part about playing Online.

FUC**** Awsome. The best eva!!!! |
| beau from Abbotsford Bc canada says (1/Sep/2003): |
The extremely detailed season mode and owners box make this the best football and dare i say it best game ever(sorry gta vice city) the computer is so hard to beat but it is extremely rewarding when u do so. the players move and run realistically even during the middle of 2 plays madden 2004 rocks the casbaugh

I am the greatest |
| A gamer says (30/Aug/2003): |
I like the game because it challenges me more than the maddens in the past. Even though I went through my first season with my averages being: 500yrds passing w/ vick, 150yrds rushing w/ dunn & 150yrds recieving with him also, and price aver. was 275yrds. i am the ultimate player. the last time i was beat in any madden was madden 98 on playstationone. and for anyone out there talking down on this game learn how to play, and if you think that you can play try me.
|
just read it |
| ben from new york says (30/Aug/2003): |
well to me madden 04 was a HUGE disappontment. granted the new playmaker control was good the game has some very very weak AI problems. first off if you are the eagles, or another good team and you play the lions or anybad team on pro you have NO pass protection you really need to adapt to having like 3 seconds to throw,90% of the time no one is open and you take the sack. one more thing come on in the pouring rain there is no evidence that the rain even came down like no puddles or anything on the field. COME ON MADDEN FOOTBALL YOUR BETTER THAN THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Vick is totally FAKE |
| Chauncey Gates from Denver, Colorado says (30/Aug/2003): |
Madden is a freaking beast ass game, what is it with licking Vick's balls, the man has a damn 94 speed in the game, and infinte stamina. Only way to counter the fakeness of Vick, is use Seneca Wallace on the Seahawks....a bit more realistic in speed ranked at 82. Is it just me or does Al Michaels talk too damn much in this game, Madden wont shutup, giving us 30 minute lectures on formations and completions. Good change in commentary, just that they need to shutup a little bit. Wheres Lisa Gurrero

Interceptions......DEAL WITH IT |
| Richard from Terre Haute, USA says (29/Aug/2003): |
Quit whinning about the interceptions. If you knew anything about the NFL, its' football teams(NOT JUST YOUR FAVORITE EITHER), you would know how to play and play well. If they play cover 2, dont throw all the time..its just basic common sense, and common football knowledge. JUST DEAL WITH IT.
|
TOUCHDOWN |
| Justin from SAN DIEGO says (29/Aug/2003): |
This is the GREATEST FOOTBALL OF ALL-TIME!!! I don't wanna hear all these winers saying Mike Vick is too good because I shut him down in my 1st season with the Redskins in the playoffs I beat his team 24-7 on all-pro. All u have to do is to use the QB Spy because hes obviously a great runner. I love how the cpu d puts pressure on u all u have to learn to do is screens and quick short passes instead of waiting for the long td pass. This game is so realistic the only problem is the secondary still isn't the best but hey its good enuff for me they pick off to many of my passes as far as I'm concerned. I love the new owner mode and all the ways u can make money like changin the name of ur stadium and I love how when u try to relocate they don't just let u, u have to come up with a good deal. THIS GAME IS FANTASTIC.
|
OHH YEAH |
| David Volpatti from Fruitvale,BC, Canada says (29/Aug/2003): |
How can you people be whining about fumbles and intereceptions, is there not ffumbles in football? This is the best game that i have ever played and a few interceptions arent gonna cahnge my mind. It works both ways they intercept a lot and so do u. As for rthge fumbles they only happen about once every 2 games so you people just shut up. the franchise is unreal and there is nothing better than than sitting back and playing a great game of Madden 2004
|
Madden-ing |
| Jonny Dubb from Ft. Liquordale says (26/Aug/2003): |
Ok..let's talk about the games pros and cons for a second.
1. Playmaker Control - An idea that was better on the drawing board than in actual practice..it does have some applications but it's nothing that will win you a game, more likely it will lose you one.
2. The 4th Quarter - For those of you children out there complaining because they had 1 minute left and we're up 17 points and lost..YOU are the problem not the game. If you have any brains and have watched the NFL then answer me this..what would a real coach do with that lead and that time left?
!!! KNEEL DOWN !!!
3. Michael Vick - If he was really this good the falcons would have been in Disneyland not TB, soory guys when you go that far out of your way to make your cover guy happy you're obviously all over his ass like a fat kid on a cupcake, ok?
4. Owner Mode - I want football, not The Sims meets the NFL
5. Super Glue - what every CB, LB, FS, SS, RB, HB, WR and TE in this game needs to put on their hands to catch the ball..if they did this in the NFL it WOULD NOT BE THE NFL..oh..by the way..easy way to avoid all the dropped balls GUYS is to switch to said offensive or defensive player and press triangle at the exact moment of contact..100% works..takes practice though and by the way...how many NFL games have you seen where the QB bombs the rock 90 yards every play..doesn't happen..thats reality..thats MADDEN
6. Running game - get an OL and you can do it..if not go to coaching options and switch your gameplay around after you scout the opposing team a little to find out what strategy you SHOULD be using
7. If you practice..you will win
8. Creating Playbooks be they offensive or defensive is for CHEATERS only real men don't use them
9. If your Create-A-Player DEATH SQUAD is killing the Claymores 255 (the MAX points you can score in Madden 2004 before the computer stops recording your score) to 3 then it is time to UP the difficulty level because you my friend have the attention span of Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man and aren't learning jack
10. That's just my take..I'm probably right anayway
|
Stop cryin'cuz you can't pass or run! |
| Brownsbomber says (25/Aug/2003): |
I can't believe the whinning about this fantastic game! Here's an idea, learn to be patient and not throw into double coverage or when the CB has the inside lane! Didn't any of you guys play football in school? Second, try using the "Stiff-arm" buttons to change the ball from hand to hand to avoid having the defenders strip you! Crap, this game is sweet! I have been using the lowly Browns and I have not fumbled with my HB Green all season (13 games) and have only thrown 8 picks! And I am not even that good! So shut up whinners!
