F1 career challenge bites- Big time | | A gamer from Edinburgh, Scotland says (31/Aug/2003): | Well after reading eveyone elses opinion i thought i would give it one last chance. i took out F1 2002 set everything to hard/simulation and played a season.......i won.
so after much playing and confidence built that i knew the tracks and had sufficent skill do to better in the latest ea spawn of the sport, i put in the disc and......i still sucked. How the hell can i be leading a race, have a pretty damn good pitstop and still finish 19th?? this i think sums up the game totally.
You can fight, drive, push your way through to claw every position you can then ralf wallops you from behind, you skid into the run off area and go from 4th to 21st in less time than it take one of these cars to get to 60.
Yes the graphics are good, as is the concept, rain effects and the goodies to spend "points" on (pit babes and the evening races etc).
i love F1 and i love driving games but even the shumacher bros would give there patented german sneer to this pos.
Ea learn, please!
| I did it ! | | Rudy from Belgium says (17/Sep/2003): | I have won all seasons. 1999 with Sauber. 2000-01 with Ferrari, and 2002 with McLaren. (must say, that Ferrari is the best car in the game). I have taken a picture of my driver reputation. Contact me if you wonna see it. The best way to win the game is to choose Ferrari, if you can, and stay with them. there are two circuits I have problems with :Gp USA, and the new Germany. I can not find a good car-setup. If sombody can help me?? please let me now.
| Thank you EA-games | | D_D from Aarschot, België says (27/Jun/2003): | The first thing I noticed when I played this game, was the realistic sound. When you close your eyes, it is like you are in the tribunes yourself! The game also have fantastic graphics, wich are much better than in F1 2002. The graphics are much smoother and really beautiful. Like in almost every F1-game, the gameplay is very good. You learn the controls in no time. For me is this the best fact of the game. Talking about lifespan, I can say that this is very long, considering you are driving four full seasons to become a world champion! And when you have finished this, there are many multiplayer option for people who like to race against friends. It is also a very original concept of the game. Who can say there is ever made such a game like this??? I can not. Because it is such a beautiful, original, well sounded game, the fun factor is also extremely high. Believe me, you will play this game many hours on end. Highly recommended!!!

| F1 Career Challenge Driving Made Hard | | Matthew Young from Montreal says (22/Aug/2003): | I was pretty leary about buying F1 CC I came to this site and read some reviews and was able to sypathize with many People who dont play F1 games and can find the Steering difficult but I wrote them off as not knowing hot to play F1 games. I went to the store with my girlfriend and she bought it for me (im so special) when i got home i had some work to do so i asked her to try it well after alot of small profanities i came and asked if she needed help in my first try i passed what she was trying to do needless to say she felt upset. after another 15 min I found her crying!! Thats right this game is so frustrating It made her cry (laughing) I then took over and instantly realized what had caused this tear fest. after 45 min i fell in love with the game I find that the small bugs in the game (EA games are always full of dumb bugs) are so frustrating I love how if im in someones way they got to go right through me they never heard of passing in F1 school apparently not. I am in my first year (Benneton) thanks for the tip from this site and have finished 17 4th and 3rd respectivly and once you got the track down you can make Shumi shake in his boots. great game 5 Stars
| Easy on your second season | | Gino from Melbourne says (31/Aug/2003): | yes, yes, the game WAS very frustrating. the super license tests were quite mundane with little purpose but to resemble a real-life license test, which admittedly, i loved! rushing quickly through the tests on my first attempt of a season, i quickly signed for benetton. throughout the season, i was consistenly in the top six, and being offered better drives, and hastily signed for the bigger teams. it was not difficult to pull off an occassional win with the mclaren team. although not world champion in my first year, i signed with ferrari and winning was easier. i quickly won three world championships. on my second attempt (creating a new driver), instead of rushing through the tests, i attempted to attain aces in the license tests. i did and was offered a drive for williams immediately. from here on, winning was easy. qualifying was simpler, and most difficult was choosing where to spend my abundant points. actually, what i have not achieved was a perfectly clean race - quite impossible when you're on the edge and your only goal is to beat everyone around you. some frustrating points of the game is pitting in. it is true that if you pit late in the race, you'll finish poorly. however, to combat this, you simply have to qualify on pole and your team will allocate you an early pit stop. problem solved. another annoying point is your lack of control on type selection. you'll often find your team gives you slick tyres on a wet track, or wet tyres on a dry track. you can't even change tyres on your pit stop. i find this is the game's way of reducing my winning record. i retaliate the unfairness of this by allowing myself to cut corners - all is fair in love and F1. of course, cutting corners is only committed if i find myself in unfair situations - genuine ones, not just because i'm losing. there is one corner in monaco that easily gains you four seconds a lap. however, it is very dangerous. after the tunnel section, there is a small chicane that you take about 60mph/100kph (if you're daring), which you consequently have to break very hard. instead, however, do not break. visualise a straight line through the chicane. a quick left-right, and you're able to take a very slow section flat-out!! beware: if you hit a wall or an opponent, you'll flip! and unless you love the spectacle of an F1 car flipping uncontrolably in the fair like the propellars of a helicopter, you will automatically be excluded from the race (unless you've used your points for an invulnerable car) due to failure - duh! ok, that's it. ive got heaps more hints... stay tuned...
| Frustrating!!! | | Nick from Tennessee, United States says (12/Oct/2003): | man, this damn game... that gamer from Edinburgh, Scotland said it all so perfectly! you can be leading a race, have a perfect pit stop, and then finish the race in 19th!! and also from right out of the blue one of those damn drivers just runs right into you! they dont care, its like they enjoy doing that more than getting a decent finish! however all over the track you can see the other cars just spinning out of control and taking each other out quite regularly! which can be a bit satisfying! but i will say what has pretty much already been said! cars are quite difficult to handle and spin out regularly... and that problem mentioned with the pit stops is quite frustrating also!
however, with all that said... winning is not impossible! in just my 2nd season, i signed with Jordan, which is a fairly decent car! i always forego qualifying because ive found it a bit difficult to get a good grid position. but in my 2nd season driving for Jordan, i had 4 podiums with 3 wins in Austria, Monaco, and Indy... ultimately finishing 4th in the drivers championship which aint too shabby!
but i still feel like the frustrating times outweigh the glory of winning or getting podium finishes! my thought is that its worth buying if you're a real F1 fan, which i am, but other than that... maybe not!
| Setups | | Anker from Ejby,Fyn,Denmark says (18/Nov/2003): | Hey everyone.
I'm a big f1 fan but i'm not so good at all the setup stuff.
If anyone would lige to help me the please send me a e-mail with some advice to the different tracks and setup's for the tracks.
Please help me and send some help to anker< remove me > at c.dk
Now to the game.
IT'S GREAT.
In the beginning i had some very big trouble to steer my temper, I couldnt drive the F...... Benneton.
Thats not possible I have all other f1 game and have succeded in every one on hard level and now this.
But its only a matter of time then you will get used to the controll of the car and THAT is the most diffucult part.
BUT ALL IN ALL
GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT EA HAVE MADE IT AGAIN GO TRY IT OUT
IF YOU DONT LIKE IT YOU ARE NOT F1 FAN.
anker.
| By far the best F1 title ever created | | alonsof1top from Mexico says (30/Apr/2004): | You guys are wrong. This game is not to complicated to beat. I know the AI is bad, EA had change the AI with respect F1 2002, in this game, if you suddenly stop in the racing line of the AI, they'll either stop abbruptly or stop a little bit and overtake you from another side of the track.
It doesn't matter if you're with Ferrari, Jordan, Minardi, etc.
The only season that is the most tough is obviously the 2002. Even the guy who comments you, in Melbourne he says the improvements of the cars have been enormous so you need to push.
I've won with Minardi the 3 first seasons (99-01). In 2002, you need to spend your hard-earned points for engine upgrades (for race and qlf). If you want to go faster in the corners go for Improved traction control. Put perfect pitstop and you'll exit the pitlane in the correct place as the computer exits it.
The only track i dislike very much is Germany old layout till 2001. While taking the curve Sachs you need to slow down, just like the old onboard videos as an illustrative purpouse, but the opponents go through that corner at full speed, they can even take you out to the gravel!! Either i don't know hoe to set-up the car, but i'm sure this curve is taken at much slower speed.
Another thing I'll would love to be included, is the helmet modificator in the PS2 version (i don't know if other has it). I'm tired of using that boring style helmets, I'll love to use MOY or ALO, helmets, it'll be really cool.
I feel the car handling real and have no reasons to complain.
| great game | | A gamer from indiana, usa says (3/Jul/2003): | i thought it was the best f1 game put out for ps2. prob. the best f1 game i have played since GP3(PC). the ai is a little iffy. that is really the only downfall. i highly recommend it, it tough to drive at first but you have to practice, the licence test are pretty easy and you are offered a ride for a low budget team: hint: pick benneton!!
| Good game, but way too difficult | | Biron43Sux from Stafford, VA says (5/Jul/2003): | I had a choice between this and MVP Baseball, and God do I regret my decision. Don't get me wrong, as compared to EA's attempts at F1 games in the past, this far surpasses them, but a little too much. This game is damn near impossible. First, the guy from Belguim, I don't think you've played any video game outside of Euro-games (i.e. FIFA Series, F1 Series, FA Superstars, etc.) or any games from the states, because the control on this game is absolutley horrid. I have never played a game with such difficult controls since the original F-Zero on SNES. I kept telling myself when I started that, just as in any racing game, I'll eventually get the lines down, the controls, tweak the car, and I'll find my match. Thing is, I can't and for the first time in my entire life when it comes to racing games, I'm going to have to say, I'm not going to.
No matter how good you hit the apex's, no matter how good you hit the turns, no matter how quick you run them, you still find a way to either run into another car, or over/understeer, and tweaking the car really does absolutley nothing.
The strong point of this game is the graphics, and its presentation. It's a far step above the first attempt EA made at an F1 game, as in you actually need to pit in a race. That's about it, though. The AI is so disgusting I almost cringe when there is a race. Opponent's run their line, and if you are in their way, TS, they'll run you down or swipe you off.
I completley concure with the guy from Austin. Do not buy this game, and unless everything else is rented, don't even bother renting it. I've been playing it for 2 weeks now, and I still can't get the hang of it.
The good news is, and is the only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2, is that within 2 to 3 years, this game could be great. That's assuming EA listens to it's customers, and outside of Madden, they rarely do. I do like the idea of being an F1 Carrer driver, and being able to go over 4 seasons. I would enjoy it more if I could get past the 3rd race of the '99 season without wanting to throw the POS out the window. I just pray that maybe GameShark or Codebreaker will come out with some codes. This may be the first game I will have to cheat at just to level the playing field.
Again, in case you missed it, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!
Here's some true ratings for the game from an American gamer.

| tHE gAME iS nOW sIMPLE | | Roddy from Vancouver, Canada says (16/Jul/2003): | This game sucked balls at first. Then i sed id give it another try. i started to get the hang of the game. On my first season i did horrible... well yea.. my best placing was 9th. thats pretty bad. On my second season i started to get used to the controls and my best placing was second... not bad considering it was in monaco. and then i did great on my 3rd season. i was like winning every race(with jaguar), then bw offered me to race with them...they were horrible i always was screwing up in the corners and i think my best spot was 5th with 'em. then since my reputation went downi got and offer with either Renault,Bmw and Mercedes. U probably wont believe it but i picked renault. after that my seasson was great i had won 7 races in the last season and had won the world championship. so for all u ppl who hav no faith in this game.. take some time and get used to the controls... u'll have a blast playn this game
| F1 Rules | | John from Atlanta, USA says (18/Jul/2003): | Don't get me wrong. At first this game kicked the crap out of me. But sadly enough he's wrong. I.E. you have to learn the track and figure out how you want to go through any turns before you can start flying out there with Schumacher and Hakkinen in any season but 02 cause Hakkinen leaves. If you learn to just be patient during the HOUR long practice session. You'll figure out how you want to go through the turns and what kind of speed you can carry without losing the car. BUT DONT FREAK OUT ABOUT THE TIRES BARKING AT YOU WHEN YOU START TAKING TURNS QUICKLY. I found out that this is part of the games way of telling you that you are approaching the limit of the tires. you don't necesarily need to back off the throttle or let up in the turn you just need to keep in mind that you are in fact simulating 250+kph or 165+mph. This is in fact one of the best simulations to ever play. keep in mind that this is a simulation though. don't expect the turning of NASCAR Thunder 2003. these are more sophisticated machines and the guys at EA got it right for once.
| I Love F1 Career - X-box- | | Rudy from Aarschot says (31/Jul/2003): | At the moment I am playing my second career, and it is much better than my first. This time I have started with Prost, and stayed the whole first season with them. My reputation was almost at the top, and I was offered to begin with Ferrari and McLaren. I've chosen Ferrari, and they expected a first place at the first race!! 3à4 poles, and 3 first places, but the red colour of the car makes it difficult in the pit, so i change my team, and now I am driving with McLaren. Just as my first career, the second season is much more difficult than the first, but I keep fighting. My next season I am going to try to stay by the smaller teams.
Bottom line. F1 fans, Buy this game!!
| Good but frustrating | | Davey from Leeds, England says (11/Aug/2003): | After rushing out on the day of release and buying F1 Career Challenge I had great expectations, however I have since found the game more and more frustrating. Because I don't have the patience or free time for long races I select the 8 lap race option and the same thing happens in each race for the first season. I qualify in last place for every race but 1 (can't remember which, sorry!) where I can usually get 4th, then during the race I cut corners and get myself into the top 6 and then I have to pit in and almost the entire field goes past me even when I make a perfect pit stop. The only time I can do anything is when the pit stop is early in the race and I have a good chance to recover. This isn't too bad however as while racing for Prost or Sauber they only expect finishes of around 15th which is achievable. I thought things would get better when I signed for BMW Williams the next season but no, the same again but this time I am expected to finish top 6. My reputation falls and I am labelled a failure. I am still hoping to get the hang of this game eventually but until then it remains far too hard.
PS I am not just useless at racing games. Honest!
| Keep trying !! | | Rudy from Aarschot Belgium says (19/Aug/2003): | If you keep trying, you will have succes. I have won the worldchampionship 2001 with BMW. I know sumtimes they make it to hard, ( the wheather, car failures, etc ),but it's possible. I have wrote all my car setups on a paper, that's helping a lot. Again, Keep trying.
| This Game Rules | | hill from Middlesbrough, England says (3/Oct/2003): | When i first bought this game i found it quite difficult like many people say. I got to benneton on my career straight from the superlicence and im in the third season and still there. Now i think that this game is easy. I dont know what everyone complains about because i have now won the last 39 career races in a row.I have only lost 1 race in my career cos my engine blew up. I am a hardcore f1 fan and this game pleases me. I have had an f1 game for every console i have ever owned and this is the best.
As for the graphics, i think that this game is sexy. The graphics are superb and are very detailed. There are some good engine sounds and crashes in the game. The career mode is an ingenious idea which make the game last much longer. The career mode is very origonal as i have never seen anything like it. The game has some good touches like being able to buy your own treats and engine upgrades for the next race. The game is appealing to everyone not just people who like f1. I could play this game for days non stop and never get bored. I think that it is very clever the way that the game progresses over 4 seasons bringing new courses and drivers to the scene like in real life.
If you are planning on buying this game do so because it is the best racer ever!!!

| I HATE F1 Career Challenge | | Mertaw from Austin, TX says (30/Jun/2003): | I was on a waiting list for 2 friggin' months to get this game. I'm a huge fan of the sport and a huge fan of EA. However, this is the worst hunk of poop i've ever played. Can we make it a little more difficult PLEASE!!! I mean, jesus christ, why don't we take all the fun out of this HOS by making it impossible to finish any resemblance of respectability. I buy a game for the fantasy of being able to do something I normally can't...I mean, I like a challenge but this piece of crap is ridiculous..... I can suck at things right now.... I suck at things all the time....I'm just saying I don't want a video game to be something else to suck at.....know what I'm sayin???
Bottom line.... I don't play a game because it's soo realistic. I play a game because I want to see my name at the top of the winner's circle every time. There's supposed to be a tricky that you learn that let's you pass everyone.....have we forgot the gameplay basics here???? If I wanted realism in racing a car, I would go do it and gets paid....since I have now idea how to race a car....I want to play a video game....because that's what I'm good at....DON'T MAKE IT REAL...MAKE IT A FRIGGIN VIDEO GAME!!!!!!
Don't waste your time or money with this terrible game.....just go buy Tiger Woods Golf & FIFA Soccer 2003 and don't worry about any other sports games......everything else apparently suxx!!!!
| A real driving experience........but far too fustrating and hard | | Ray Butler from Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, England says (11/Aug/2003): | I am a big F1 fan, i follow the sport where it may go and for the games thats no acception. I own all of the F1 titles for the Ps2 and Ps1 and out of the lot i have to rate F1 caeer challenge as one of the worst. The graphics are impressive but the majority of the game is a real let down. The cars are way too hard to handle, when taking a corner you can rarely get round it without oversteering, locking your brakes or spinning not to mention the opposition cars who you regually bump into. The game is far too short and lacks real depth. In career mode if you get a bad start you are easily left behind. My message to EA is to get the game sorted out because F1 career chalenge SUCKS!
| Great | | Steve from Hutchinson,USA says (21/Sep/2003): | when i first got the game i sucked of course but then i started a new career and signed with benneton and the first race i got 1st i beat the 2nd placer by 30 sec. man now i'm good. so i say get used to it and never give on the game because if i can beat it so can you.
