Could have done better dynasty mode |
| Terrence Goodlett from Louisville Kentucky says (27/Oct/2003): |
Lets start off by saying I broke Kobe Bryants record of 12 threes in a game with T-Mac 14 threes and it didn't change in the hall of fame. The point system sucks, they ball for cash not points. Why can't we move franchises to different cities like madden. EA sports must take to much time in watching football and not basketball. Give us ballers some reason not to put the joystick down. I give props to the Ai though its tough there ain't no more winning by 50 on Superstar mode anymore. The pro hop was a plus, took time getting used to 2 shoot buttons though. In all the game is better than 2003 by far. Just step up the game for 2005. Give the players more involvment in the team. Plus buying the coaches hasn't really showed me any improvement. What about create a coach. Let me walk the sidelines.

it's okay |
| still the realest from los angeles, ca says (26/Oct/2003): |
it ain't bad, but it ain't great either. what's up the player ratings? they're incredibly low. also kinda disappointed about only 1 player in dynasty mode. oh well. i do like all the alternate uniforms. and the headbands and socks you can purchase is also a nice touch too. overall, i just expected more.

Nba Live 2004 is hot..... |
| Jiggy Jorge from Stamford,CT says (25/Oct/2003): |
but the flaws are there. I like all the points everyone on here makes about the game but my beef is that you miss too many lay ups and they call way too many charging calls in this game. Besides all that this game is crazy with better graphics and gameplay. Can't wait for 2004 NBA Inside Drive cause I thought that was the surprise NBA game of the year last year!

it aight 03 was better |
| jeff from chandler arizona usa says (25/Oct/2003): |
Nba live 2004 was alright man. i mean the defense on superstar is to hard. in real life you can blow by a defender sometimes, in 04 its never not even on rookie mode. wats up with points instead of real money on franshise mode. its way to hard to make layups in this game! every ti,me you get by a defender they miss a lay up. ands was up wit all da charging fouls. the best improvent is the jumpstop. thats tight. it is too hard to do moves. And the werst part of the game was the ratings. dang they suck! how is Yao ming more than Amare. and starbury sucks in this game. Kb8 is 5 ratings higher than Tmac whys that? they should be the same

Pretty Darn Good! |
| Nate from Seattle says (25/Oct/2003): |
NBA Live 2004 is extremely realistic, I mean the mannerisms of the players are the most authentic to date. The bunny hop is pretty cool, but posting up is extremely difficult, thanks to the enhanced defense of the AI (but is that a bad thing - makes you work harder). That being said, you will definitely have to adjust the foul system, there are WAY too many offensive fouls and the only defensive fouls are against your team, mainly the players you are not controlling.
Also, what in the world do the Spurs have to do to earn some respect. I mean the Nets, Lakers, Mavericks, Kings, and Suns are all rated higher. Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm not, but the Spurs handled these teams (with the exception of Kings, who the Spurs didn't play) on the way to their latest championship.

For Real Basketball Fans |
| Aquil Bayyan from Washington, DC says (24/Oct/2003): |
I have been playing basketball simulations since "Double Dribble" on Nintendo. I have mastered all the EA Basketball games since Lakers vs. Celtics. I guess I would consider myself a veteran, in this basketball world (played Division 1 Basketball, and now coach high school), and I feel that Live 2004 is the realest basketball game to come out. In previous Live Series, I prided myself in playing full-court high pressure defense on superstar mode and shutting my opponents down while myself shooting a very high percentage. 2003 offered no such defense and the shooting percenatges were around 70% which is unrealistic. 2004 has almost too much defense, but it shows how much I have to use the practice, 1-on-1 mode, and run more plays, not just the same plays I have been running since Live 99. The first time I played on superstar, I was down 51-4 in the third quarter. I look at 2004 as a challenege and I know that anyone won't be able to pick up a stick and hang on superstar mode. I think that once you get to the lane, players miss too many lay ups and dunks, but other than that the gameplay is great. So far against human competition I have not faced anyone that can beat me, but that CPU on Superstar is as tough as they come. I know lose by 5-10 points to the computer which is an improvement. Live 2005 should have all-time teams and better player ratings.

good but not great! |
| adivens from Phoenix, Arizona says (23/Oct/2003): |
nba live 2004 is a good game, but after the first day i wanted to return it. i mean, let me chose which jerseys i want retired. the game also needs better dunks. and whats up with bibby's ratings in the 2nd year of the franchise? he gets benched for bobby jackson. come on bibbys on the usa squad. inside the game is good. gameplay was better on 2003. i just feel that outside the game needs improvement for me to buy 2005 when its released.
P.S. go clips!

its alright but not all right |
| the 15 gamer from new orleans, la USA says (22/Oct/2003): |
the graphics and gamplay is the by far the best but outside the game sucks. the under rated players just make me sick. franchise mode does not have two players im guessing me and my brother will have to play on same team to build a powerhouse team i dont think so. and whats up with these franchise points 2002 and 2003 was fine but 2004 grow up i want real money. i have to admit the nba store, hall of fame and the new awards are good. but this award needs help the MOST IMPROVED PLAYER (which is my favorite in real life)it goes by which player increase the most in points rebounds assist etc.. ex:one year stephen jackson has 9.7 points a game then the next year has 22.1 thats improved not jamie feick 2.2 one year than 3.5 the next year cant stand it. needs more new features outside the game.

Old time teams |
| Brad from North Dakota says (22/Oct/2003): |
I think the graphics and gameplay are great. The dynasty is much improved but still not comparable to madden. I was if they have old time teams in this game that you need to get through codes or something because I thought they were going to have them in this game. I would love a game that you could have a matchup with the great Laker and Celtic teams from the 80's against the Bulls of the 90's. Is there a way to get old stadiums like the boston garden in this game. Other than those things this game is great, and much better than last year

A Great Game but There's Always Room for Improvement. |
| Twinnupe6 from Memphis, TN says (22/Oct/2003): |
NBA Live 2004 is a huge step over its predecessor. The player animation and moves are highly detailed and are true to life. The double teaming defense is great and gives you the opportunity for some steals although not always guarenteed. Your superstar player can no longer drive through the lane and dunk all day long (although Jordan has his way). The collision addition provides for the most realism and stops the traditional ghost play. They things that could be improved upon is the camera options. 2003 had better camera options and you could see more action on the court. At first I thought that 2004 would be an updated roster of 2003 but it is nothing of the sort. After playing 2004 I can never play 2003 again. Buy this game and you won't be sorry.

Vastly Improved but not Quite There |
| Mark Judge from Mauston, WI, USA says (22/Oct/2003): |
First of all the biggest improvement of all is the cpu AI at the end of the game. You can actually have a close game without the computer screwing up. Also controlling the cpu AI makes for great comptition on any level and will allow the computer to make a good amount of subsituation. Graphics are good but jitter way more than any PS2 game I've ever seen. The underrated players will take some getting use to but it keeps players like Iverson from averaging 10 blocks a game. Then we get to the heart of the game were I love to spend half my time is in the menu of the dynasty mode. How can EA do so awsome and be untouchable at this in Madden and just completely drop the ball on NBA Live. We finally can trade draft picks and free agents don't go to only one team leaving you no chance, but when do we get to deal with $1,000,000 in stead of 100,000pts and the best thing about Madden this year is the owners mode. I want Phil Jackson to coach my team maybe even have MJ to grace our sidelines as a coach. What went through EA's head when they did this for Madden and not Live.

A few improvements |
| C-hell from Minnesota, USA says (21/Oct/2003): |
The actual game-play is improved, the ability to alter your shot in mid-air is off the hizz, but the dynasty mode is still lacking, The players need a salary, not a points system. I also think they shouldn't have messed with the player ratings, T-mac a 70 something rating on his jumper? Other than those downfalls, I would definately buy it if I were you. The graphics are good and the game-play is more realistic.

Live 04 is as realistic as it gets |
| KingEA from Maryland, USA says (21/Oct/2003): |
I have always been a fan of EA SPORTS especially games such as LIVE and MADDEN. NBA LIVE 2004 has a number of exciting new freestyle moves. The freestyle feature that stands out the most is the ability to change your shot in mid air to avoid the defender. The player rating system has become more realistic. Once you play you will notice that a lot of players seem to have very low ratings. Although the ratings are low that does not mean that the player cannot perform at a high level. An example of that would be Lebron James. His player rating is a 69 but his performance in games is still very high. I am really pleased by the effort put in the details of this game.
|
Its aiight |
| Joker squared from Tifton, USA says (21/Oct/2003): |
This live is a big step up from the lives of previous years. The bunny hop and the new freestyle moves are sick. But basically its the same as 03 just with new people. It doesnt have that many new dunks and after doing all the same dunks you will eventually get bored with it. It's a little better than 03 but it has a long way to go before it can catch up to other EA sports games like Madden. Overall i think it was forth the $50 i paid for it and I should be stuck on it until basketball season ends of I finish dynasty mode which ever comes first. Te graphic are better than years past which was the main reason I bought the game. The biggest upgrade is the challege. It actually hard to beat the Denver Nuggets. That is the biggest surprise and I love the challege so it makes the game fun to play unlike lives of past years where u could beat the computer by a hundred points with the game on superstar.

nba live 2004 is the best one yet |
| mondreal potts from charlotte,n.c usa says (20/Oct/2003): |
I got the game today and I have been playing it all day long.
nba live 2004 is the best one yet.Nba live 2003 was great also
but,04 takes the cake. The graphics is outta this world the things I like about it so much is thay have the nba store
where you can buy things like all kinds of shoes like JORDANS
for your players or even old jerseys.Nba live 04 is off the hook.
And any where there is real ball player I know for a fact that
it's sold out in them cities.Like charlotte,n.c.and as long as you all provide them then we as b-ball players will always buy
and that's a promise.

The game is awesome, but what's up with the choppy visuals |
| Magnificent Mike from New Jersey says (20/Oct/2003): |
This game is a huge step up from NBA LIVE 2003. The triangle button move, where the player hops into the line is tight. I like the square dunk or layup control too. The game is a lot different in terms of challenge. I can't score 146 points on All-Star anymore. There are 2 things however that I feel suck the big one. First, how come when you dribble up court, the visuals get all choppy. Like it skips. It's weird. Also, the dynasty mode isn't as tight as I thought it would be. The whole "point" system is stupid. All around, the game play is a huge upgrade...and it's definately worth picking up to add to the EA collection.
I'll play it all season long.

online sucks |
| A gamer from Palos Hills, Illinois, USA says (20/Oct/2003): |
This game is horrible compared to last year. The online gameplay got worst. They slowed the phase the game is played in. They took fast breakd points. Its impossible to get a charge unless your below the basket. It is way to easy to block players so Dallas and its gigantic players are unstoppable

Good Not Great |
| Adam Dougy from ZTown USA says (20/Oct/2003): |
NBA LIVE 2004 is a very good game, but it's not great. Live 2003 was about the only game I ever played for an entire year, so i was pretty hyped up for '04 to come out. I went and got it the day it came out, but to my disappointment, it was not what I expected. The new dynasty mode is not very good, the training camp sucks. The players ratings all suck. I mean, a rated 65 player will be a starter on your team. In 2003, you would drop someone of that calibre talent. That's about the end of my ragging, because this game has a lot of positives too. One is that the game focuses a lot more on the team. Before you could use the isolation with one player and drive to the lane with freestyle and dunk it just about every possesion. Not in '04. The player defense has greatly improved, and even if you get past your guy, the computer knows to come over for a little help defense. The double team feature is also great. You can create a lot of turnovers by double teaming a player or deflecting a pass. Diving for the ball is also pretty cool. I also like the fact that a dunk isn't a gimme anymore, you have to actually work to get a layup or dunk. The defender can block away the ball or move you into a position where it is hard to make the shot.
I think that if you are a hardcore basketball fan or if you couldn't put down Live 2003, you should buy this game. If you thought 2003 was alright, and you only want to get an updated roster, don't waste your $50.

It's not much better than 2003 |
| Lare Jass from Baltimore says (19/Oct/2003): |
Other than having all the updated rosters, such as Lebron and Carmello, the game itself is not that much different than Live 2003, other than the fact that you have to learn what the buttons do. Another flaw of the game is that the rookies, while I guess haven't proven themselves, are rated incredibly low, such as Lebron as an overall 63 and Darko a 62. The game, in my opinion, is very good, but not a large amount better than the previous years, which leads me to believe is not worth paying the 50 bucks to buy it, rent it for a week and you'll get bored, worst case senerio, just create the new players entering the league this year on live 2003, other than that you won't miss anything.
