NBA Live 2004 is one of the best basketball simulations i have played. There are however major problems with Dynasty mode! The major problem is that your system is based on points not money and it is nowhere as deep as madden. Marketing and advertisting does not even come into play depending on how your team is rated before your first season starts is how your attendence stays. It is hard to make positive trades because of wide gaps in stats reall good players like Kenyon Martin are rated in the 70's (Kenyon is a 77). Another problem with Dynasty mode is that it is almost impossible to develop your players as in mini camps like those in madden. Also in the game there is a slight glich in the game if a player demands the max or close to it and is not resigned by his team wait till you are about to play your first game then go to sign free agents and you can get any player for the minimum. Even though there are so definite problems the basic gameplay is great i cant wait to see if EA improves in 2005.

NBA Live 2004 is a really good game. I think it's the best live yet. The graphics are better the gameplay is better. There are only a few problems with this game. I've seen all the other reviews and alot say there should be a dunk competion and a three point contest. I agree. Some of the ratings in this game are bad. Tracy McGrady should be higher. 97 or so. Kevin Garnett should be lower. LeBron James should be higher. There are a bunch. The Dynasty can be boring but i think its ok. About the altered shot deal. it rarely happens to me. sometimes when i have someone tall going for a rebound or block they jump through the back board. The post moves are pretty realistic. I mean i should know i'm the tallest Freshman in our school. I play basketball too. you probly dont care but i do. anyways the game was good.

First off I'd like to say that I'm a big fan of EA Sports and the whole collection of the NBA LIve series, yet there are to many things that I wish they'd change...
1)Dunks:The dunks are always the same whether your on on fast break or any time else, I'd like once to be on a fast break alone and be able to show off some skills
2)Layups:ok, also layups need a big improve i think they should give each character a signature layup... for example with Kobe give him some of those crazy/amazing layups
3)Rim:Ok, this one isnt really that big but i'd be nice to be able to break the rim every once and a while
4)Competition:I'm sure every body thinks it would be nice to have a three point contest or dunk contest during season/dynasty mode during all-star weekend...
Besides that the game is pretty awesome i'm playing it now!!!

Hey people I need some help. I was wondering how you retire your own jerseys like it says in-between playing and loading your next game. I can't retire jerseys and it's making me mad.
I've done everything I know how to do to retire jerseys and I still can't do it. The best 2-man team to play the game were Shawn Kemp #40 and Gary Payton #20, both for the Seattle Supersonics in the '90's.

i have just got the game and it is much better than 2003 its hard to score maybe a little to hard the blocks are realistic they dont go out of bounds stright away and finally the stats are right we have kobe which is 97 and tmac which is 92 ok maybe tmac scores more points but kobe is a better defender and has a better % when shooting and had 2 second most triple doubles in the league. so they finally realised that kobe is the best shooting guard in the nba. another good rating is iverson thank good his not in the 90s a person whos shoots at 30% should be band form taking more than 10 shots a game the only players which are under rated are Jason Kidd the best point guard in the nba and Hardaway. the graphics in the game are really great to it look real. this is by far the best nba game i have played on my ps2 so if u haven't brought it go buy it. i give it a 10 out of 10 rating thank you EA SPorts for the great game and making it muich better than nba live 2003.

i've been playing this since the first nba live game, i am a big fan of the video game and the real nba games as well and
the new nba live 04, its has the freestyles moves in it, dats the one of the improvements about the game.. u can do uncontested shots, u can easly lose the guys whose guarding you.. it almost looks like a real exact game.. but this how it goes.. probably some of the people that have this game, probably they noticed this to.. like for some player you can't change their shoes, you can't change there hair styles, after you get a foul, you can't get a foul shot. different names on the back of their jersey's, the color of the sox, same annoucers voice for every game, no dunk competitions, three point shoot out, and they should add the new skills game as weel, no reverse lay up's, and to top it all there's no play of the game after to finish a exihibiton game or whatever kind of game mode you are in..

ok i get so bored in dynasty mode playing as only one team in the older NBA lives and in madden you can control all the teams and its so much more fun i play 10 games and i either have to trade my whole team or start over also when will live learn that players just dont stand and watch the player with the ball they move around and get open and i would like to edit headbands i cant put paul peirce on any other team because he looks silly i would like to be able to have the practice mode for rookies before the draft so i can see if I like them and can play him good

There are a lot of good things about the game. The freestyle let's you get past your defender, the power step is a MUST HAVE down low, and the extra button for dunking prevents the "two foot Shaq shot". However, there are a LOT of things wrong with this game, and I don't mean the 3 point contest and rookie game. Big deal.
First off is the inside scoring. If you don't power step, you WILL be rejected down low, or pushed and hacked (no foul) into a wierd lay-up shot thing that always misses. Also, we have blocking. The blocks aren't just too numerous, they're also highly illogical. No one is going to go for a dunk that passes by the rim to get blocked. If the defense is beat, your player shouldn't go behind his head so the computer can block it from behind. Even Shaq can be easily blocked by any center in the game. Some players actually change their height or direction in midair so they can be blocked.
Next is the AI. From rookie to starter is a cakewalk. I was putting up 100+ and winning by 50 after the first week. However, All star and Superstar are ridiculously difficult. Not because the computer gets any smarter, but your shots just don't fall on the higher levels, while the computer hits with everyone. I actually missed 3 dunks with Pierce on fast breaks. In another game, the computer's ower Forward (with 0 3 pt ability) hit a 3 over Yao.
Then, there's the passing. Don't bother using anything but the Direct Pass, because you never pass to who you wanted to. Plus, the pass is either a lob, or causes your player to stopor jump to receive it. Then, the computer simply picks off the pass and runs for a break. When stealing, the computer has a tendency to dive for the ball, usually just knocking it away. The double teaming is good, but at the lower levels it's simply too easy.
Now let's go to the season. Trading is completely one-sided. The computer will never trade straight on unless they're getting a much better player. Getting people usually requires giving up three players for one, and even then they have to show some kind of interest in them. The ratings are insane. The vast majority of the stars are 60-80, with a small number getting 80s. Yet somehow Shaq, Kobe, Garnett, and Duncan are all in the 90s. That's it. Granted they're all good, but either put more up there or take some of them down a notch or four. If you look at things like Player of the Month and MVP Candidate, be prepared for the worst. I had players putting up 30 points per game and not appearing in the Player of the Month, instead replaced by mediocre performers. One time they simply didn't have a player at all.
Another big problem is glitches. These range for trivial things like "skating" players to not getting foul shots for a shootinf foul. Sometimes players will get "displaced" during dunks and somehow dunk a few feet away from the rim. Also, dunking through the backboard is a constant annoyance. How does Shaq do it? The computer may alter your shot, making you shoot too early or way too late.
Finally, ss far as the soundtrack goes, let's try something other than bad rappers trying to rhyme about basketball and failing MISERABLY. You might as well either loop Outkast the whole time or just turn it off.

Live 04 is about right this year exept for a couple things like in the dynasty mode their should be salary caps for teams instead of points that would make it way more interesting for the kides of all ages because most kids dont understand what those points mean cause I barly know and it would also make it more exciting for us.then during the dynasty they should put the Jordan team on it so that if one of the created players were to make it they would get all the special addition jordans like with different colors. An also during the offseason you should be able to work the players yourself just like on madden then it would be alot more fun thean watching the computer do it. then they should have a three point shootout and slam dunk contest only in the dynasty and not in game modes cause the it would get boring cause if you had it only on dynasty it would have everyone excited about the allstar break, and the way you should do it is that you should put the 4 best dunkers with the most dunks or the people with the most arial dunks in the first half of the season. Then about the dunks on the game you should have catagories like 95 an up can do spectacular dunk like arial dunk and between the legs or off the back board an dunk it, then for the teams that throw alleyoops like new jersey on a fast break J.kidd could throw it off the back board or from half court like they do in real life.Because it is very unlikly for a user to complete a alleyoop even on a fast break. Also thier should be a better choice of tattos and shoes. Then about the allstar game I think that yall should find out where the games would be played for like the next ten years for dynasty cause i know everyone is tired of seeing the Live logo in the center the cout. In practice mode their should be a two player mode so we can practice oops and run plays. Overall this game was ten times better than last years so keep up the good work I would love to help with the next Live project.....

I enjoy the dynasty mode on this game. However, I agree that a slam-dunk and three-point contest should be added to the All Star festivities in this game. I would also like some kind of rookie-sophomore challenge during the All Star break. This would allow you to look for young developing players that you could trade for. I also wish that the salary would be in dollars, not in points allowed per team. I think this would give a more realistic feel to the game. I have also noticed that blocking is way too easy. My team usually averages about 10 to 15 blocks a game. I also think that more fouls need to be added. I have bumped up the shooting and mid-air collision fouls, but they seem to never be called. I have also noticed that the game starts to give all teams an overall rating of 99 after a few years of playing in the dynasty mode. However, the graphics are very good and it is nice that you can import players from March Madness. The 2004 game is much better than the previous year. I can’t wait to see the new and improved NBA Live 2005.

Overall I have to say that this game is definitely the #1 basketball game around...graphics will improve each in every year in the high tech industry so no one should really complain about that aspect(as goes for the loading speed and all those types of attributes). Actual game play can improve in the players reactions and their reaction time...fighting over a screen for instance, once in a while the defensive player guarding the ball could just knock the screener over (depending on size of course) or just fight over top of it quicker...they always seem to get a little tangled up (which is alright on occasion); blocks are definitely a little too forgiving...offensive players should be able to dunk on big guys more often (unless it's SHAQ, which it never happens too); swats should be hit harder out of bounds for empahsis purposes. The ratings of the players are definitely out of wack...i hope EA is actually using basketball experts on this matter(and if they are, GET NEW ONES!); more created players should be allowed to be made (20 isn't enough)...and old school players not made by the game itself should appear upon name entry in the "create a player" platform. All-Star weekend would definitely be improved it there was no advertisement on the floor (Come on! you guys are rich enough from brain washing us kids already..show some mercy!)3-point competition should be implemented, and the dunk may be difficult to do, but if a challenging way of introducing it can be done, then it should be as well...and increased name list for name recognition with created players would also be nice...make sure you include Chris Holwell pernounced (Hall-Well)lol and more nick names as well...a street circuit would be an unbelievable edition to the game and is quite do-able...anyways, despite my suggestions i do love nbaLive 2004 and look forward to seeing the final result for next year's edition...also i think EA should hire me as a consultant because i have a ton of more ideas(i'm just tired of typing ;)...PO

this game rocks before when my friend got it he seaid it wasnt that good but when he got in to it i found myself going over his house every time i could. buy it at first its bad but it will get better. when i finaly got the game cause my freinds mom told me that two days a week i can come over it sucked like i seaid before but it gets better there were some cheats they even seaid u can unlock 50 cent imagine that! the players they have tottaly cool players Bryant is better than ever my freinds recommended this game to me and iam sayin it to you u will love this game bad or not eliar some one seaid it sucked i didnt want to get the game but my brother seaid it would be so totaly hot

And also in next years game I think that during training camp you should be able to train the players yourself like weight lifting or shoot arounds or somthing like that.But about the dunk contest and the 3-point shootout they shouldnt be in the regular play because then it may get boring.Then you know how you have a practice on game modes I also think that you should be able to practice with more than one player and that you should be able to 2 player on practice mode so they can practice on shooting,alleyoops,Freestlye control, and also so you can prctice on how to run plays. And as I go back to talking about the offseason in Dynasty that is another reason why you should be able to do it yourself so you can learn how to run plays and learn how to master the freestyle control and off-ball control. on christmas morning i woke up and open the game.i thought it was the same as live 03 but it's supper different the game is realstic in all but lebron jame should have at least 79-89 and anthony should have at least 79-87 .the sound is just real real real.it is fun to play but should had at least dunk contest or 3pointshooutout.the teams rating should be at least higher that nba live 2003.but they should have more players than this but its all good .why does shaq change his shot will someone like 5'5 is holding him.

NBA Live is almost there to perfection. When i first opened the game on christmas day, i finally thought nba live has reached its peak. it seemed realistic ... but after about a weak, it became that same old arcade style game. And to get a high scoring game, you would have to play 7-8 minute quarters, thats almost a hour actually playing it. Why did nba live change its player ratings? Carmelo should be a high 70's tmac should be a 99 and theres no way in hell kobe should be a 97. maybe a 93 or 95 but not 97. and why is iverson a 87? the ni99a should at least be a 96 or something. The defensive play is good, but i kinda liked it better on live 03 when u could drive to the lane or make easy shots and put up 50 points a game, hehe, i won mvp easily. Oh ... the allstar break ... definitely needs improvements ... rookie/sophomore game .. 3 point shoot out .. dunk contest hey if everything goes well maybe ea sports can even throw in a celebrity game. And in the second year of the dynasty, come up with a stadium to play in the allstar game, i got sick of playin 03 and seein that "ea sports" logo on halfcourt, yall can make it a random stadium or something. I'm going to take a break from buying live, i may consider buying epsn basketball because its more realistic. I dont mind havin a couple friends over and playin a arcade game with live but when they leave it seems the only time i have fun playing live is by hookin up the second controller and playing myself. its too easy. On a 5-minute superstar quarter, i can leave the game with at least 120 points, on rookie mode i can leave the game with 150, thats not including overtime . ea sports has a lot of work to do. Maybe they should pick fans of nba live and ask them to help make the game, i garauntee the game will be much better.

Guys.... in order for your shot not to be block that easy... you should learn how to control your sliders... got to in-game-settings. then set it on how realistic u want it to be. this doesnt recquire a lot of skill, you just have to learn how to play basketball in order to understand moves they updated. Power Hop helps a lot. and for those who complains about their dynasty team decreasing points well instead of training them why not buy a extra Coach, it might be a shooting coach or big man coach. Well I Just Wish that They Updated the Retired Jersey in the dynasty Mode to Make it more Realistic. So No One in the Chicago team can wear number 23 anymore.

it was a cool game and all, but it needed new things that 2k3 didn't have. it came out with nba store, and a couple of new moves, but that isn't enough. they need a dunk contest, a rookie-sophomore game, and a three-point contest over the all-star break. also, it's too easy. i mean, i play the best team, the 90s all-stars, put it at superstar, and i can still go down and dunk at will. i also think it should have more clips, as well as a halftime show. last but not least, i also think that they should make the game intro more interesting. over all, i think it was better than 2k3, but it should have been better.

Maybe this game does need some improvements. The rating system is bad. This is certainly the best basketball game out right now. so i think its ok that the ratings are bad. They should have a dunk contest and a 3 point contest. at least have the 3 point contest. Even the old nba lives had those. Arent you suppose to be adding more features and not getting rid of them. The online is very good but I think the tournements should be easier to start like maybe have people know that the tourney is going on. Overall though this game is great.

This is the Worst Live I have ever played in my life. It's EA Sports for gods sake, this game is NOTHING compared to NCAA,Madden,MVP. The gameplay is aweful, the camera views are aweful, the game is way to fast, and way to UNREAL. Im VERY VERY disappointed in the title. It gets worse and worse every year. ESPN Baskeball,ESPN College Hoops baby, now thats gameplay! I was looking so forward to playing this game this year to. You guys need to represent EA Sports the way Madden and NCAA do, instead of getting worse every year. This game is way to unrealistic for my liking, maybe next year.
