Very very satisfying. | | Vegeta's Final Flash from Bruges, Belgium says (23/Dec/2003): | Hello gamer. OK, let me begin the review by saying that I'll compare this game to BK (the original Budokai). I'll try to keep this as objective as possible. BK is a whole lot different from his offspring. Firstly, everything (as you probably know) is now i cell-shading. This means that the characters look just like in the show. Although when I read this the first time, I wasn't too happy about it, but I assure you, it looks splended. If you compare the way they look now, with how they looked in BK, I'd say the BK characters look kind of like muppets or something, really, some of them looked very fat. Here they look alot more natural. The amount of characters has known its improvement too, you now have up to 33 playable characters: Videl, Grand Kai, the three Buu forms, SSJ 3 Goku, Vegeto and many more, even characters who never appear in the show. Some of the BK characters have been taken out this time. Like Zarbon, Dodoria and Android 19. The game modes. You have the classic vs mode, Tenkaichi Budokai mode, training... Now for the story mode. This time the story mode has been replaced by something called Dragon World. It looks just like a boardgame, where you, and some other allies travel around the world of DBZ to collect the 7 dragonballs, fighting the enemies on your path. It takes you from the arrival of Raditz to the end of Buu. Despite this rather childish mode, the storyline you are taken through makes up for the 'bad' move the game developers made. Sound now. the sound is very good, the intro movie by the way, is very well made! There aren't really any new tunes though, most of them are from BK. There is a small remark I'd like to make. While playing Dragon World, Jazz music is played, and well, that's not the type of music you want to listen to when you're supposed to save the world now is it?? The voices (this is maybe a very important point) are all in English! Many of you may have found BK a bit annoying because it was in Japanese. Well, when I saw the trailer of BK2 I didn't feel too happy, because I prefer the original Japanese voices. But afterwards, it was for the best that they changed it, else you would have no clue of what was being said in the story mode. At least for those who don't understand Japanese (I do on the other hand, that's why I didn't like the English thing in the beginning). Gameplay. If you thought the controls in BK were the best, think again. In BK2 they have managed to improve it even more. You can feel the difference. Your character is a whole lot easier to manage. You also have more freedom when in the air. There are a whole bunch of new moves, and some of them eally kick ass!! I then think of the father-son kamehameha, it's unstoppable! There are a few new stages in BK2, the rest is from BK. Now there's also this thing called 'Babidi's spaceship' mode. Here, you're supposed to complete his demands and by doing that succesfully, you earn Kili, with that you can win characters and various moves. In overall, this game scores very high, in my opinion, even higher than BK. If you played BK, or are a huge DBZ fan, this game is one to get, no doubt about that.
| Beat out the 1st Budokai (Barely) | | JJ from SC, USA says (11/Sep/2004): | When I first heard of this game being in developement I was finishing the first Budokai. I thought the first one was awesome and that cell-shading would look horrible on the second one that was coming out. When I played Budokai2 I found out that cell-shading makes it look a lot more like the show than the first Budokai (Unless you have the gamecube edition of the 1st Budokai). By far the gameplay is almost identical to the 1st but is a little more advanced in the fact that you get to power up death moves. I was happy that in this version of Budokai you actually get all their super saijin forms and if you're someone like cell and freeza you start off in your final forms. I was also happy that got rid of the annoying way of finding dragonballs where you would waste hours of time in popo's shop trying to find them. In this game you can get 25 characters, which I was kindof dissapointed in. I wanted to be able to play jeice and the other ginyu force members that you couldn't play in Budokai1. I mainly bought this game for the dueling for when I get together with my friends and vs. against them. This game also has some downfalls. Like stated in other reviews on this site, its kind of corny when babidi summons cell and freeza to fight you in the buu saga. The dragonworld is kindof lame because you travel on a map to get to your enemies and it makes corny sounds when you're moving around. It would also be better if it had the storymode like in the first game. In-game music is a little bit better but the menu music is still corny like in the first Budokai. Overall, this game is pretty cool if you're buying it for dueling and for the new features like transformations, fusions, levels, and characters. Honestly, I suggest playing the first Budokai before buying this game because the first one has the storymode and if you have beaten the first Budokai then you can transfer some stuff into Budokai2. Also if you are going to buy the 1st Budokai, check out the gamecube edition because it's like the one on ps2 except it has cell-shading graphics.

first,they quit the cool story mode,that follows all the dbz anime(ANIME,not cartoon,dbz is from japan,not from america),and the new dragon world "quest",sucks a lot,you figth with the same stupid enemies all the time.
second,the characters,man,all the caracters are sample copies of the others,and only the saiyans can be really good characters.
third,majin buu looks really awful,thats not the real pink color of buu,and that absortion that all says that is very cool,is a real %< remove me > at %Ą$#.You can absorb only a little number of characters.laazy people of atari.

It's a pitty the Story Mode is gone but the dragonworld is als a lot of fun because there happen things that don't really happen in the series. Like Buu who absorbs Cell and other stuf. You can unlock Vegeto by getting the potara in level 9 of the dragonworld and then you have to meet Vegeta. To unlock Gotenks you just have get to level 7 of dragonworld. You can unlock The Great Saiyaman by defeating Cell in level 4 with Gohan. You can unlock Hercule by defeating Fat Buu (level 6)with the Great Saiyaman and then you can unlock Videl by defeating Super Buu (who was to absorb Gohan first) with Hercule. To get Future Trunks you have to defeat Vegeta on Namek with Kid Trunks. Krillin has to defeat #18 and Piccolo has to defeat #17 to get those two androids. You can also do a great attack with Goku if you adjust the skill list. If you put "Kaioken x20 , 2 times Super Spirit Bomb, Z-Sword and Potential" in your skills, you have to begin a fight. If you wait for 15 seconds or so and go into Kaioken and than do a Super Spirit Bomb your opponent will lose three health gauges. You can also get breakthrought with all characters when you go to the skill shop. If Bulma says something like "come again" you have to push R1,R2,L1,L2 at the same time repeatedly. You should notice that your percentage is getting higher. That means it has worked (this cheat doesn't always work and it could be that you'll have to try another). You can get the 3 Buu's by collecting the dragonballs and wishing Babidi's Spaceship. If you fight a lot in that ship you can unlock all Buus. I also heard you could wish for Tiencha (fusion of Tien and Yamcha) but I haven't tried it out yet.

I am a big DBZ fan so when they came out with the first budokai I had high hopes for the game. I got the first one on Xmas and I played it to the end which I was happy and sad with because I beat it all in the same day. It left me wanting more so when budokai 2 came out I decide I was going to take my time but with out a story mode it left looking for more. The dragon world mode is different. It has some up sides like collecting dragon balls and move from fight to fight quicker but fight last to long. Energy bust are cool but transformation should last longer and do more damage. The only time fight show a differenace in power is when they are fused and that is only in the dragon world mode. The same problem in budokai 1 is still in 2 is how they over load the characters to many transformations. Like for example goku, first you have Kaiki x20 then SS1 then SS2 then SS3 by the time it take you to get that far transformation only last a sec before going back to normal. If your a good player you can stay powered up but it take to much work and the power is not there even if you get SS3.
Over all it's the best DBZ game so far but why shouldn't be it's been along time sense they had a DBZ game Budokai one was great bacause it was new Budokai 2 is a better version of Budokai one.
I look foward to the next one hoppfully it will have SS4 Goku and Vegeta.
I think it would be even better if they would and in characters from the Dragon BallZ movies like Bardock and a transformation in to a Giant Ape.

The fact that they have added the fusions is one thing, but its the dramatic scenes during battle they have added that blew us away. Like the Videls move the "Close call" and Gohan stepped in to defend his woman, MAN!!Or the "Fusion dance" were your responsible for pushing the correct order of buttons. That game is right! you can tell alot of time and effort was put in, and that somebody lost alotta sleep making it.The cartoon like effect was another neat feature. The game play is far superior to the first one in the fact that you can counter.When we first played it my bro had Vegito in story mode against Super buu. Tward the end of the fight Buu backed up to do a super Kamehameha and my bro. only had a little energy left so he just dropped the controller. When the beam hit and Vegito started pushing it back we went crazy! That was the first time we had seen that feature so it was all new.(He got blown away by Buu but we still cheered!!)I noticed the soundtack was very similar to the first one but thats cool. The newly detailed exploding backgrounds were great, you just couldnt do it as often as you like. All the characters are great but I fell they slept on alotta other good charecters. They could have put them on instead of some of the returns.(ex. Pikkon, Olebru, Uub.) Theres only one thing that made me give this game a "9" and thats the new story mode. Its to long and drawn out. Other than that this game is straight crazy and is gonna be a classic!! Great job!

But come on. It was bestselling game of the year 2003. Dragonball Z Boudakai isn't too bad. Dragonball Z 2 is horribley addictive with loads of unlockables. If you want to know some fusions listen up. Get breakthrough for Tien or Yamcha and then next time wish for there fusions tiencha. Get Hercules breakthrough then wish for fusion Gokule. New characters on DBZ Boudakai 3. Brolly (Dark Super Saiyan) Cooler Frieza's brother. Then Goku's second brother whom I can't remeber the name of. This is all true. Did you know that the Dragonball Z on british t.v isn't actually the original. The same characters yeah but different storylines with watered violence. Brolly isn't evil. Just hellbent on proving he's the best in the universe. But I guess hardcore fans know this. All the fusions are for Dragon Ball Z Boudakai 2. For Kibitokai/Kibitoshin. Wish for Supreme Kai's Breakthrough and then wish for Fusion. Its all good. Screenshots for Boudakai 3 look good and I am stoked. I love Dragon Ball Z and loads of DVD'S I just wish I knew where to get the comics. If so please tell me. Rumours are a live Dragonball Z movie is on the cards with Jet Li as Goku. Dodgey eh? My favourite Dragonall Z character has to be Brolly. He is crazy and cool. I like him because my name is Brolly. Where I come from in Malaysia Brolly is a common name in my village. | Its got alot of dragonballz | | ZedgeZ from England says (31/Dec/2003): | This Christmas i got one of the best fighting games of all time , you guessed it DBZ Budokai 2, the graphics are awesome even though they are cel-shaded, the fighting is simple but effective and there is a hell of a character selection for those who like to explore each characters different abilities like me, over all a fantastic game, the part which really showed off the game was when goten and trunks fuse together being one that just tipped the iceberg, also something which has surprised me is the lifespan of the game, unlike the first game Budokai 1 which was easy and was completed in a few days, this bueaty(however you spell it) lasts for a long time though i havent completed the game actually no where near, its almost impossible to say how long its goin to take put in mind that ive had a week now, as you people should know by now its cel-shaded which really puts it into its own world of the fighter category, The cel-shaded material really adds to the effect of you actually being in the cartoon itself which is cool.
A good game to play for anyone really, not jus for DBZ fans more for a wide range of gamers who like fighting games in general.
What I didnt like about the game was really the fact that there is a cheat for all capsules as i am not the cheating person, also the fact that you have to get 29 characters for advanced mode, ive only got bout 18 so i still have a bit to go but i love a challenge in a game, so thats probably why i love it.

The first one followed the story of whole lot closer. If Budokai 2 had stayed more on track with the orginal, (probly just started where the othere left off at the end of the cell games) then it would of made a worthy DBZ game. Let me give a example. The begaining of dragon world starts with nappa and raditz landing on earth, but any true DBZ fan would no the raditz came alone, followed 1 year later by nappa and vegeta. They also had freeza pay a visit to earth, and that wasn't suppost to happen untill the andiod saga after namik. Forget about the cell saga or cell games, instead you get a retarded board chase after cell. Plus several of the orginal stages were cut out that were in the buu saga like kami's look out. And has anyone but me noticed that when you use a gaint attack like the super spirit bomb or super kamahamaha that there is no crater or even a small scratch on the ground? I think the only few good things they did with this game was add more characters and made all the characters more custamizable. Not to mention you can now duel using to commputer controlled custonized characters. I do think the game is worth buying if you are a hard core DBZ freak like myself. But as for its rating compaired to the first......nah. Even the music in this one couldn't follow the music from the cartoon, well ecept in the begaining a little bit.
Im just disapointed with the over all effort put into the game.

but anyhow, i love the fusions, gokule, vegetto, gotenks, tiencha, lol, gokule is one of the *UGLY* characters in the game, he has missing hair, 3 eyes, and does this kick ass move named, something something volleyball.
vegetto, is just like in the saga, originally at ssj2, and you stay there, but instead of having ki, you have time, which has its disadvantages, and advantages, like infinate ki, but that counter acts, with time, once your time runs out, and you get knocked out to the ground for a second you cahnge back to the character to started fusion with, and you have 0 ki. bah, whatever still good though. they included everything big that happened in the buu saga, very greatly. they didnt have the story line correctly right though, you never fought 19, nor, did goku have that viral attack, and trunks didnt get unlocked as soon as you head into the android saga. Few errors, and Goku is the only character that has legs, lol. The rest are game pieces. Oh, well the game is spectacular, it'll keep you busy day after day and is fun to learn. IT IS* Absolutely worth the money.

This game has better graphics but doesnt focus to detail as much as the 1st budokai game. What it lacks in detail it makes up with the overall coolness of this game.I right now am trying to unlock the 2 false fusions Tiencha(Tien+Yamcha) and Gokule (Goku+Hercule) by getting their breakthroughs.Their is another rumored fusion you can only obtain with gameshark,(Gohan+ Goku)Gohanku.Also Gogeta can be unlocked with gameshark.I highly suggest anyone to go buy this game if you love dbz as much as me.The things that I hate about this game is that doesnt follow the story line that well in dragon world. Somethings I noticed were out of place.

Something I Wonder is the characters never fight babidi. Is it possible to unlock him as a character?
THe gameplay is great it coordinates with the character.This game is manufactured by Atari but infogrames wasnt involved in this game.Unlike ultimate battle 22 this game has stellar sound and features actual voices from the show and it has catchy tunes to it. Its original since it focuses less on streetfighter like graphics.Its a valuable buy but once youve beaten it your bored and done with it.Its graphics are the everpopular cel graphics. The average time it takes to defeat dragon world is about 4hr 25mins.
| Still better than Final Bout | | Anthony Munroe from new york, ny says (28/Nov/2003): | The fighting system itself has not changed much at all, but the ultimate attacks have been tweeked somewhat. Some characters like yamucha and mirai trunks have been given new ultimate attacks, which look simply amazing. The character models are animated beautifully, and look awesome in motion. The roster of characters is more plentiful this time around. With the abcense of story mode, the new single player mode called "Dragon Mode" is completely original; but no where near as entertaining as watching the events of Akira Toriyama's great anime acted out with cg models. It has more staying power than the previous title, and Dragon Mode will take several tries to unlock everything. The death glitch, when you float in mid air after a tragic defeat(mmm...too wordy)has been fixed. Some problems remain, such as cells voice(it stays imperfect)and for some . The new fusions, which include vegitto, gotenks, kibito kai, gokule, and tiencha(he's new)are wonderful additions. Buu appears in all of his forms including his absorptions, and some which do not occur in the anime. Even without story mode this title surpasses the first in several ways, and will attract any hardcore dragon ball z fan. My only problem with this game is that it's fighting system is too symplistic. While it may not be deep enough to satisfy fighting game affictionados or hold it's own against Soul Calibur 2, it is still better than Final Bout(psx).
| A | | Myles Harris from Bristol,England says (2/May/2004): | The first thing I noticed about the game was the really boring dragon world mode, but weighed against the fantastic cell-shaded graphics, cool music and best of all the voice acting, this game rocks! But things are out of proportion though, like when I defeated Frieza with Goten.
One of the worst things about the game though is that, even though it is'nt really significant, they did miss out the Garlic saga. They also have less than half of the Ginyu force and don't have Babidi as a playable character. The thing that disgraces the game above all though is that all the special moves that the characters have are wonderful, about a quarter of them don't have one! Especially Android#17 and Android#18 who are really important in the story.
Apart from those things, the game is great! It's graphics highly resemble the cartoon without looking 2D and the voices are from the game. My favourite character is Vegita, but I don't like him when he is Vegito. This game will probably last you for 2 months unless you are a serious gamer like me, then it will take you around 3 weeks.
Now at about Ģ35.00 it is worth your money if you've watched the cartoon, but give it a second thought if you hate japanese animation. It is extremely fun, but has a lot of flaws if you watched it on T.V and know the story.

The music is what made its score down on my part. Adding orriginal Dragonball Z music from the actual series would be one of the best ideas you could use. Some of the graphics could be a little better, but they are very good. The thing I am just most concerned about it the music. What they say before and after fights could change as well. "I've finally beaten Kakorat!!" Is just a weird thing for Vegeta to say. What is the point of him saying that? I think Budakai 3 will be much better, but if it is not, they should quit making the games. I rate this game as a 9, and it could go no higher. If the Funimation created this game, shame on them, because they can do better than that. My diagnosus: Get rid of the stupid sayings they say before and after duels, and bring music from the real show instead of dumb Jazz music playing in the backround. All that want to know who I am, I am Ty. I hope you guys do take a little time to read this. It is very important to me, for I am a hardcore dragonball Z fan, and don't want to see it go down into the dust like that -=snaps fingers=- I want to see the series rize so high that it can rise no more.

Now the dragon world, its okay could have waited to make it like now so they would start off in the actual gt...When i play it all i find is one dragon ball...Then they are like hidden and you can never get them. That is a bunch of Shiot right there..Chasing cell? Pffft, thats gay why cant you add the cell games and things like that...
They need Way more moves for the charectors eatch, I gotta wait for ever to get one move for them (One time i beat dragon world = 1 good move), also they should start it off in dragon ball series then make it harder and longer to beat eatch level (Example: Once your about to go and fight frieza, zarbon comes in and frieza moves and you gotta do it again...) In namek you should find all the dragon balls too then you fight frieza for it, you lose you have to recollect them and frieza will be harder, you win you get to go home No more frieza like in Budokai 2...
Well this is all i can say its a good game but with minor details that need to be fixed..
| Best DBZ Game Ever! | | A gamer from Maryland USA says (8/Dec/2003): | I got this game the firstday it came out and the moment it started up it was awesome the story mode that was in the first budokai hasent returned instead a new mode is added called dragonworld which in this mode you have to collect all seven of the dragonballs and defeat freiza cell androids and at the end buu.I have many favorite characters for this game theres also a new addition to this game theres the ability to fuse with another warrior theres 5 different fusions Gotenks Vegito Tiencha Gokule and Supreme Kabito Kai.My favorite is Vegito he is awesome my other favorite characters are future trunks Goku Vegito Gotenks Gokule and tienchaand Gohan and teen gohan are awesome too.Theres a whole bunch of new moves for the characters plus the ability for goku and gotenks to turn super saiyan 3!.Tiencha was an awesome idea by the developers i allways wondered what tien and yamcha would look like as one warrior he has a move called the wolf fang volleyball fist and a tight move called the dodohamehameha.Gokule is cool hes got the kamehameha and a move called the ultra spirit bomb.This game is awesome i like how they got rid of the 3d look and moved right on to cel shading giving the game a more anime style look.Buy this game its a must have.

I went on a special site to find the best previews for Budokai3. Trust me you would like the previews that you can find.The best thing i like about number three is that you can play as Bardock. Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now they made it so you can unlock characters like Broly and Cooler. The previews I saw for Bardock are off the chain. They put him in the burst mode against Frieza and he looked cool. The next preview I liked is that you can play as Frieza in his second or third form. Now isn't that cool?! The thing I hate about the Dragon World on Budokai 2 is it is like a board game and it gets boring not showing details. Now on Budokai3 they have this story called Dragon Road. You get to play as the person you are sent at to battle with. Like take Vegeta for an example on Planet Namek when Vegeta Flies to the space pods were the Ginyu Force came you get to be him and fly him over there. I would like Atari to make a Budokai with so good graphics that when you do the continues Kamehameha it would look like what vegeta did to Frieza on Planet Namek. Another last cool thing about number three is that you could fly in the air at any time of the battle.

| 2 good 2 be budokai | | DA-TRUE-GAMER from BUKEYE STATE (OHIO) says (10/Dec/2003): | YO dis game is tight.the first dragonballz budokai was kinda cheesey and way 2 easy to get skillz however this game gots a new storymode- boardgame and its graphics are the shizzznit and the new roster is sweet, u get buu fusions and some hidden fusion characters and the brand new babadis spaceship is awesome too. this game makes the first budokai look like an ant 2 a giant. plus vegito is bad< remove me > at $$. sad they dont got the final-kamehahaha. the only bad thing in this game however is that in dragonworld u can barely do anything without having to kill the main guy and then u cant get what u need.but this is about the only bad thing. other than that the only other thing thats hard is the combination to do the fusion move its like u can never get to the kke. you should be able to finsh the dragonworld in about a couple hours or less, its pretty ez just make sure you get the dragonball each time (need those breakthrough caps right) but this game is about the best game ive ever played of dragonballz. i think this game can without a doubt be the best fighting game to came to the playstation game. You should without a doubt get this game or if u got all i know is keep gaming cause gotta ketchum all, capsules that is ;)
| THE BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Ian Chumley from Georgia, USA says (14/Dec/2003): | It is the best game I've ever played.It has great graphics.I can do everything but one thing.I don't know how to use fusion or pontara earrings outside of dragon world.If you know how to use it email me at jimT678.If you want cheats for this and many other games go to cheatplanet.com its got all the latest cheats and stadegies.It tells you how to get charecters and other unlockables.It took out the stinky people and put in the new ones.If you want teen gohan and videl listen carefully for teen gohan you have to beat cell on the last level wher you beat kid buu. you have to beat cell with adult gohan.To get videl you have to beat super buu(with gohan absorbed) with hercule.Just incase your wondering once you get all 29 charecters you will get advanced mode for tournament mode.To get Free capsules with a memory card go to the capsul buying place and hold L1+l2 and leave repeat the process for more stuff.so If you havent played this game ther are some cheats.In dragon world you will fight kid buu last here is my hint. use something like sensu bean for your skill list so when you die you will have full life and full ki.That way you can have a benafit.i LIKED THIS GAME BECAUSE IT ROCKED.
