I play games for titles like this! | | Azreal Darkskies from Wonderland says (4/Jan/2004): | Although I originally played and loved the first Virtua Fighter 4, I never bought it. However now that Evolution was released as a greatest hit I can't get enough of it!
The graphics or downright gorgeous! They are amazing, I can't explain what I thought the first time I played this! They are beautiful! Although I still havn't noticed the difference between 4 and Evolution I feel I don't need too.
The gameplay is amazing, with an encouraged multiple styles of fighting for each of the 15 characters (2 more than in 4), its simply not possible for this game to get old! Each of the characters have a plethora of moves, it takes monthes to truly master one character. And once you have, the razor sharp AI will still challange you in the lightning quick battles that are filled with real martial arts! The game has a arcade mode where you fight through a number of fights to get to the end, and it also has quest mode which is something to get excited about. In quest mode you travel across several arcades in "The City" and battle against hundreds of unique AI in order to declair yourself the VF champion! In this you get items to alter your characters outfits and other unlockables, all of which you can use in the other modes.
Nothing is like this game when it comes to multi player, while you only have the verses mode that is all you need. When people are playing this game against each other it really keys into there competetive nature. You can spend hours fighting your friends and think you only spent a few minutes, that is how absorbed you get!
Over all I have to say Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution deserves the title of Best Fighter Ever! If you are a fan of fighting games or you play games with your friends, go out and buy this game you won't regret it!
| The king of fighters for PS2 | | mitch from Atlanta, GA says (12/Sep/2003): | I thought that the first Virtua Fighter 4 on PS2 was an awesome game, then Sega decided to bring in some welcome additions and make it an even better game. The changes in graphics, though very subtle, actually do make a difference. The jaggies that plagued the original have now been remedied and the game looks amazing. All the original fighters are still there, but two new faces have joined the crowd. Sega also made a point of adding new moves to the old characters, too. Kumite mode has now been replaced by a more engrossing Quest mode, which is a blast. I just wish that Sega would have allowed for more character customization. There are only two costumes for each fighter. All in all this game rocks. The graphics are sweet, the controls are tight, and the replay value is extremely high. You can't go wrong for twenty bucks!
| Depth, Depth, Depth | | Jesse from CT says (30/Aug/2003): | If you actually go through tutorial or pcik up the finer mechanics of this game, you realize with the item option, variety of gameplay, and characters, this fighter is extremely deep; more so than any other on the PS2, X box or GCN. Even if you own VF4 then are tons of new items, a new mode in play of Kumite which is much more entertaining and engrossing, and it only goes for $20. The best deal on Play Station 2 by far!
| Great Graphics. Little Replay Value. | | Mike Barton from Antelope, CA, USA says (19/Aug/2003): | VF4 Evolution is a great game graphically. It's when you talk about the extras it fails. I wish this fighting game, and fighting games in general, would give you more clothing options at the beginning of the game. You only have two outfits, but different colors. Wrestling games give you hundreds of outfits and the ability to change the fighters moves and many other options. VF4 Evolution should be more like wrestling games. All you get is premade fighters and moves. After you play a while it gets boring. You do the same things over and over. If I wanted Sarah to wear a dress or skirt, I don't have that option. Or if I wanted to change Brad's moves, I can't. They should still have the fighters they made in the game, but we should also have the option to change the fighters moves, looks, clothes etc. if we want to. Wrestling games 4 years ago gave you that option. For crying out loud, this is a PS2 and programmers should give us the options to change the fighters if we want to. The fighting game genre is behind the times in that department. I hope the next VF game will give us players more options to change the fighters in the future.
