When I rented NBA Shootout, the first thing I tried out was Career Mode, and I was somewhat disapointed. I know its a new innovation and it does need time, but playing in the developmental leagues year in and year out and accomplishing "goals" gets a little stale. I never found out how to improve my characters ranking, but maybe that is because I didn't play every game. The players don't look realistic, for example, Yao Ming looks like a white Shaquille O'Neal, except for the face. If they took more time on the graphics, tweaked the Career to where you can improve easier and can get in the NBA easier, then it could be a pretty good game. Also, I despised the way the shooting was made -- it was way too hard to make a shot, even with Tracy McGrady! On the good side, the Hall of Fame thing for the Career was fun and the 50 All time greats was pretty fun also. The Create a Dunk was also pretty good. Overall, this game is better than ESPN Basketball but nowhere near as good as NBA Live 2004. That game owns everything.

1st of all SHOOTOUT 2003 and below SUCKED!!
This right here is a new begining for Basketball games.
Graphics r really fair(8/10),gameplay is awosome(it's so easy to get used to it),and sound is like u r watching a game on TV(ESPN,TNT etc.)But the best part is the ONLINE gaming,no other game comes even close to the online playing of this game.The only reason people say this basketball games sucks is because they r so hocked to SEGA and EA(Whcih advertise their game every single commercial).If u wanna see how the game looks visit WWW.989SPORTS.COM pick Shooutout 2004 and select game fotage and they will show u 3 clips about the game(Thats what i did and when i saw it i bought it right away).Here r my ratings.
SOUND>>>10/10
Graphics>>>7.5/10(needs a lil improvement for next year)
Gameplay>>>10/10 (Its so fun when u play a human player)
Overall>>>>9/10
This game is great but so is NBA LIVE 2004,so either get Live 2004 or Sootout 2004 forget about 2k4(Also known as ESPN Basketball).

When i picked up Shoot Out i was very doubtful. All the previous Shootouts sucked, but not this one. This is a new begining to a good basketball game. Granite, it's not NBA Live, but its pretty damn good. The one thing that may put Shootout over the top is the ubeleivably fun career mode. No other game can compete with Shoot Outs career. Another thing that may put this game over the top is the create-a-dunk mode. The only real downfall of this game is the graphics. The faces arent very realistic. Overall, its a good game, go get a copy

this game is the shiznit because the slow motion is pretty cool better than nba live and you create your own dunk and it has online play which is better than lives and also has career mode which is real realistic the favorite thing i liked about it has to be the courts there very detailed even the allstar court comes out not like in live it doesn't the only down fall has to be the graphics on the star players but other players are alright like ginobili,etc.I would say give this game a try ain't that bad.

why do video games that suck each year continue to make games? who is buying this trash? this game is zero fun and lacks in features, unlike its nba live counterpart. i am telling everyone out there, get live, not shootout. shootout is the basketball equivalency of state of emergency.

The game sucks, the gameplay is slow and the only way to make a shot is by duning. NBA live is 100 times better. The couple good things about it are that you can create your own dunk, you start you season in the summer season then if you do bad you play in the development league.

this game is almost as goos as live but it doesn't have freestyle control the graphics are better this time camera angle is better and the player models are more likeable so i don't no what you're talking about i bet you didn't even rent the game.
