HERE COMES THE PAIN IN THE GAME | | dave from england says (12/Nov/2003): | ok hctp is a good wrestling game.but why i repeat why didnt they put jeff hardy in it beats me.and the create a mode doesnt offer any more than {just bring it}why do they do this the crappy music and the entrances r crap too.i hate being the old skool wrestlers beacuse they have no entrance music.THQ why havent u made a big improvent other the last one.but overall graphics are superb and the amount of wrestlers r good also
| Pure genius | | Cory from vincent,Ohio USA says (12/Nov/2003): | ive had this game for quite sometime now and i have to say i enjoy it and i love the graphics. There are some minor problems that bother me, like when you get eliminated you cant hit anybody or interfere with the matches. The season mode is quite interesting and surprising to say the least.I feel that they should have went down the whole list of wrestlers that are good and put them on the game. One of my favorite wrestlers iv always liked is the one and only Jeff Hardy, and i almost went insane when i soon found out he was noy on the game.Jeff and Hulk were pretty good wrestlers. it makes me mad when i have to look up stratigys on how to create Jeff Hardy, i mean come on, they have his attire and moves but they just wouldnt put him on there.also the bra and panty matches were cool. i enjoy watching girls rip there clothes off but it lacked action. like, you should have been able to pick a place for them to fight at like a mud pit or a bed fight like on a recent ppv i watched.but beside all that this game kicks a**!!!ps. email me to tell me which attires and stuff to choose from to create jeff hardy if u know.thanks
| You will respect SmackDown! | | A gamer from Rensselaer, IN, USA says (11/Nov/2003): | First, everyone PLEASE learn some grammar. SmackDown! is the best in the series so far. The game seemed unchanged again at first, but now I appreciate it more b/c of the blood and the whole damage system. There definitely should be sound like everyone says and a buried alive and inferno match, but who gives a sh*t that Maven and Mark Henry aren't in it and attires aren't down to the T? The gameplay is improved and there's more skill w/ the new ability attributes. I only wish THQ made the HUGE indicator bars smaller, the story mode excluded words, putting someone through a table is only done by a special or top rope move, and the Dudleys could do a 3-D as their combined special.
| Wheres Shane O mac !!!!!! | | James Aldous from London England says (11/Nov/2003): | wicked game but theres no shane o mac why he is the greatest.u should be able 2 make him or somthing!also mankind should b an unlockable the hardcore legand no1 wants hilbilly jim!!wicked season. there should also b a buried alive match because they r great and u get to unlock the old stile undetaker an he is the king of the buried alive match!other than them things it is wicked
| The best game ever | | steven says (10/Nov/2003): | WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain without a shadow of a doubt the best wrestling game of all time.
The story mode is the best you could get. first you can get a manager and fall in love with her like I did I was big pappa pump and it was stacie kiebler they celebrated a win shook hands thn kissed for ages on the top of the ramp.
Second you can actually make up a faction you have a list of names to call it e.g evolution, Legion of doom, The nation of domination and more I have 4 members in my faction Stone cold, HBK, Stacie Kiebler, and me scott stiner. and vince has made a faction of Y2J, HHH and Ric Flair and they are having a war now.
Classic superstars brilliant idea need thier own entrance music and videos though.
The entrances need to be like Raw2 and wrestlemania XIX
full and not for them to be on the ramp then suddenly in the ring but a full flow with every step not bits missed up
| justin | | justin from milwaukee, WI says (10/Nov/2003): | this game is so cold, its the best wrestling games out. yes it is better than raw2 on the weak x box. buy this game, how could you not. the graphs are cold, the matches are cold, and the wrestlers. I gave this game a 10 out of 10. buy this game
| Good games but with a lot of less options¡¡ | | Juan from México city says (10/Nov/2003): | first of all, forget xbox raw 2 (sux) or wrestlemania for cube (sux 2) smackdown its the best wrestling game ever, however "hctp" has some flaws.. like we dont have entrances in matches with cages involved, (elimination chamber, hell in a cell, cage) why the hell they leave entrances out in this type of matches? then we dont have commentary, and the create a superstar options are 60% less than in shut your mouth, why??? in the previous smackdown game i could create wrestlers like bret hart, steiner, mysterio, sting, mankind, foley, bulldog, owen, doink, goldberg, scott hall etc.. and in hctp we just dont have the options to do so. and the lst thing i didnt like is that they leave some superstars out like hogan, mark henry, jeff hardy, and some losers like al snow, farooq etc...
leavein this behind this game rocks, its funny, its realistic, we have elimination chamber, we have blood, we have bra and panties, we have goldberg spear (very realistic) we have HBK sweet chin music (loading the boot) we have kane with and without the mask. this game u have to have it¡¡
| where's hogan? | | Andy from Glasgow Scotland says (9/Nov/2003): | Does anyone know why the real Hulk Hogan (not CAW) is shown on the THQ website but he isn't in the game? Fantasic though best wrestling game ever. Even though they left out a few wrestlers Spike, FBI, Jamie Noble, Shannon Moore, Nathan Jones etc. CAW is far superior to sd4. More wrestler attire's would have been better for the likes of Rey Mysterio, HBK, Dudleyz etc. Apart from that the gamplay and graphics are superb.
| This Game is Awesome Like Shiz!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Chris Hernandez from Lawrenceville,GA U.S.A says (9/Nov/2003): | This game rocks!I only have to buy 3 more things in the shopping zone and I had it for 2 days!I have every Character and 655,000,000$$$$!!!!!I'm so excited! One problem,in every wrestling game when 1 person comes in and another comes the first one isn't there!I mean the audience is finally 3-D And titles belong to the right wrestler, but whats wrong about the 2nd person coming in!?I'm an expert on this game, not to brag folks but because I know I am.
| The Almost Perfect Wrestling Game | | woody from Luton, U.K. says (9/Nov/2003): | The game has many good sides but a couple of bad sides for eg. I was expecting more wrestlers and a bit more unlockables although there is a body-part injury system which tells you how much damage has been done to a certain body part, a more accurate CAW (create a wrestler) system, an in depth story mode, bra & panty matches, more weapon and hand-hand moves and a possibillity to draw blood from the head. Smackdown 5 is easily the best wrestling game out there and applies to all (above the age request). New-comers to the smackdown series should be able to pick the game up pretty well ( after losing)and be impressed or violated from the gore , but the smackdown experienced gamers will be slightly familiar to the gameplay and comtrols but should still be impressed.
Controls: 88% (easy to get used to)
Graphics: 93% (improved from smackdown 4)
Sound: 94% (improved)
Game-Play: 95% (can be frustrating)
Life-Span: 95% (This really should last)
Overall:94%
| Excellent game! | | Shane O from my house says (9/Nov/2003): | I didn't give this a ten cos of some of the problems as you can read below, but one thing has to be said. Hogan and Jeff Hardy have left, end of. Okay i agree they should include CAW parts and music/entrances etc, like with Rey in the last game, so fans can create them, but i never played as either of them in the past games. I do admit Jeff was an amazing wrestler but hes gone so to me it dont seem real. Hogan is also gone but he's annoying me now anyway, he is a legend yes, but he's gone now and shouldn't come back, the Mr America gimmick was a disgrace to his career, i'd rather he wern't in it. As for Mark Henry, despite being the "World's Strongest Man", he's a crap wrestler with boring moves and has no mic skills, im glad he's not in. I hope the Bashams arn't in either, they bore me, and Shaniqua looks like a man, if they are, i'm not bothered. Despite all this however, i cant wait to play the new matches as they look quite cool and are good ideas, although first blood and bra & panties might get boring. Theres also blood, which is cool. Even if there isn't commentary i'm not bothered, never listened to it anyway! I like the Legends thing, but i'm not bothered about the whole 'no real intros and music', however i'd love to see the Deadman's real entrance/theme in there. Weight detection is an excellent idea, although there are apparent glitches so i've heard, Rey stealing the Big Show's finisher for example, and Chokeslamming him, but despite this i hope they've got it pinned down. I also like the whole body parts system, where each part gets more and more injured as its worked on, therefore they tap easier in submissions applied to that area, makes the game much more technical and realistic! From what i've seen, the graphics look amazing! As for fun factor and lifespan, well i already know this beats SYM from reviews and i still play that game, so im gonna be playing this right up till the next one comes out! All in all, a great game!
| Create Mode,Make Blue Blazer | | A gamer from USA says (9/Nov/2003): | Create Mode is so cool,I can make the Blue Blazer and make him cool looking like how he looked in the 80,s. Blue Blazer was my hero, they have his mask in create mode and then his other part for his mask in paint mode. I still can"t find the cape for his back like I did on Smackdown Shut your mouth. I make his run straight fast into the ring.M ake him have a Suicide Dive the first WWE wrestler i seen do that move in WWE History. Then make him do a Money shot off the top rope for his finisher. Other Moves, Armwrench Bodyslam,Acrobatic Clothline for the irish whip move. And make him part Owen Hart and give him a Sharpshooter move.give him Armdrag,Belly suplex, and basic moves like Headlooks, and leg trips..Blazer is my favorite wrestler of all time
| Where are all the other stars | | tommy from erlanger, Ky, USA says (8/Nov/2003): | Holy $hit, there are so many people missing. Let me first say, who cares about Hulk Hogan! Jeff hardy quit and lost his job at the same time, so it's no big deal. He should be a creatable person though. Now, as far as Bret Hart, I would love to see him on this game or any WWe game, Never gonna happen! Some of the legends missing are the Giant(hello), the Junkyard Dog, Warrior, King Kong Bundy, Big John Stud, Jake the snake, Ms. elizabeth, and so many more. The list of WWE stars left off is, well, unbelievabler, Billy Gun, F.B.I., A.P.A., jamie Noble, Mark Henry, Maven, Jackie, The Bashams, Billy Kidman, I mean the list goes on and on. Granted I dont miss to many of them, you have roddy piper and the iron sheik, Good GOd.And where are the lowriders essa? I Don't know, I'm very dissapointed, but, Batista is Bad and that's all I got, Peace yall.
| The Best Smackdown EVER! | | Dark Tranquility from Dante: The Tormenter says (8/Nov/2003): | This has got to be the best game THQ has ever made! The grappling system is a little more complex than it was in the others, the characters look a lot better, and for the moment, the roster has been updated perfectly. And the create a wrestler mode... Ah man, I tell you what, the create a wrestler mode is always been my favorite thing about the WWE games, and this game has the BEST create a wrestler mode ever!
A lot of my gripes with the Smackdown series have been fixed in this game. The first gripe: the commentators. I swear, Shut Your Mouth was great, but JR and the King really got annoying really quick. Though the commentators are featured in the season mode, you don't hear them in Here Comes the Pain as you're wrestling. Second gripe: no blood. You could be beating someone over the head with the steel stairs over and over again, and they still wouldn't bleed. Here Comes the Pain fixed that one too! Those are the gripes that were fixed.
There's just one gripe I have that didn't get fixed. You can edit the appearance of your created wrestler all you like, but you can't do anything about the superstars that are already there! You could do it in Wrestlemania2000, you could do it with No Mercy, BUT YOU CAN'T DO IT ON THE SMACKDOWN GAMES! And this game brings up new minor gripes. For one, why the hell is George the ANimal Steel, The Iron Sheek, and all those old guy son the game? Oh don't get me wrong, I have great respect for the legends, but Smackdown games are based on the CURRENT WWE roster. Save the oldies for something like Legends of Wrestling! And I might be doing something wrong here, but I can only use the divas provided in the bra and panties match. The B&P matches aren't the ones I visit frequently, but I'd still my to see my female wrestlers strip Trish Status down.
Besides those minor gripes, this is a great game, and I strongly recommend it.
| why does it seem like wwe holds back on every smackdown | | Chahn from Pennsylvania says (8/Nov/2003): | This isn't a bad game,it just could've been so much more. There's blood which is cool if your a deranged freak, like me...but...it's just a lil splatter on the face and a splash here there from punches and chairshots. ..was hoping for blood of WWF attitude proportions ^_^...but better than nothin!...theres a few legends included in the game which is pretty cool, tho whether some are really legends is kinda debatable...old school undertaker rocks :P...another change is the bouncy falls in hell in a cell. i kinda miss the human=baskieball physics lol
the graphics are pretty polished too,the sound is somethin i was a lil dissapointed with tho..hyped us up for voice overs from the wrestlers and commentary and etc etc etc,but this smackdown is completely silent...
veterans of the series might be a lil irritated with the control changes too. taunt is now the r3 button, you gotta button smash during submission moves to do damage, blocking is r2 for grapple,l2 for attack, both for specials.
only problem imo is the blocking,so annoying. the classic square block wasn't great, but it was still more comfortable to play with than the shoulder buttons.
oh,and bra and panties is.....Okay. should've had more winning animations i think tho ^_^
and as for the legends, their intros suck. no music, just that lil moving ring for them to stand on that wheels em to the ring. sucks the big 'un
the new season is easily the best one of all the smackdowns....i'd like to be as enthusiastic with the praise for smackdown as everybody else, but um...no.
Dam frickin' psychopaths. :P...if you don't have it yet, might as well go out and at least rent it.
Peace!
| Layth The Smackth Downth | | Brett from Canada says (8/Nov/2003): | Here Comes The Pain is a refreshing breeze compared to the stagnant air wrestling games of late have been blowing at their fans.
I owned Shut Your Mouth and played it constantly even with that games, horrible, horrible flaws. (Mainly how countering was all you did back and forth every match at any difficulty above normal and how regardless of how bad you hurt your opponent they could laways get up right away and treat the F-5 they just took like it was a snapmare. + one of the most horrible story modes available.) In Here Comes The Pain(which I got I think 2-3 days after it's release) They haved upped the ante on the graphics, weapon physics, falling and damage physics have seen a birth as well into Smackdown 5. I like the wrestlers they chose to add since the last smackdown and dont really notice the loss of certain characters everybody complains about now. I do miss Hogan but could care less for Mark Henry an Jeff Hardy. If anyone really misses those guys that is what the Create-A-Superstar mode is for. The Create mode once again is top notch and the best I have seen from any series.
The only weaknesses that have really bothered me so far is the lack of any Legends entrances or music.(The legends still feel like they had an half-a$$ effort put into them and there was not enough of the legend wrestlers.) Second are small things like
not having the correct music for RVD and Kane. I have a feeling it might have been a licensing issue, but had the right music for RVD in the previous Smackdown. any weaknesses I found were really small and had no real effect on bringing down a great game hence only losing 1 mark for these issues.
To sum this up THQ has brought us a superior product, from their last outing they have improved graphics, improved gameplay physics, new wrestlers that definatly blow the missing ones away, new matches,(Although The addition of a Bra and Panties match is a little shameful, because really... who could really become turned on over the female wrestlers with their match graphics anyways.) They also added cool stuff the the areas outside the arena like the helicopter witht he ladder hanging out of it. HCTP also surprised me with how up to date some of it's info was, the makers of the game had their look into the future of wrestling creating this game.
You know you wanna but this game, so don't hesitate because It was worth the $80.00 after taxes it cost me.
| Not good enough | | echkeh from New Jersey, USA says (7/Nov/2003): | I think WWE Smackdown! Here Comes The Pain is a good game.. I mean with all the minor touch-ups and improvments that thq did, I think this game would be enjoyed by many. But this game still lacks a lot of things that will make a good wrestling game. Though the graphics and the gameplay has improved, I think they sacrificed most of the other things that will make this game the best ever. First of all, the number of superstars has increased-yes around 60-but most of the good/ present-day superstars weren't there... I mean, where's La Resistance, Mark Henry, Maven, Shane-O-Mac and Rosey from RAW? And how about APA, Basham Bros, FBI, Billy Gunn, Jamie Noble & Nathan Jones from Samckdown! Hey these are some of the best gusy in the business! Well maybe there are just too much wrestlers inthe game that they didn't have time to fit these guys in-and when they probably put these guys, the superstars would exceed over 80-but hey, I would prefer having these guys than those legends that you have to unlock(and boy they cost too much Smackdown Dollars). Yeah i know, some people would want legends already in the game instead of creating them all, but they could atleast have made more legends(and why is Hogan not one of them?). And Zach Gowen?-yeah it will take ages to make him-but they could have atleast tried. And I'm sure a lot of people wants him in the game.. But enough of the superstars.. The moves are so cool. And they have added a lot of grapple and finishing moves! The only thing that I didn't like in he moves is WGTT's finisher(you know, the one with the atomic drop and super kick..), they didn't have that in the game(too bad). But well, aside from that, there is no problem.. How about the sounds? What happened to the commentary? And where's the ring announcer? I just think these two add a bit of spice in the game(And don't you guys think it's kinda boring and dull w/o these 2?). Also some of the superstar's appearances are not updated(not mentioning Kane's mask is already off). Triple H is supposed to b wearing his new mid trunks, & Kane has no shirt on, & Randy Orton has new trunks, Kevin Nash has short hair, & Goldberg's trunks supposesd to have a print of his tatoo at the back! What's up with that man?! Have you noticed that there are more superstars from RAW than from Smackdown? I noticed it in the first part of the season-where you could pick who's going to which brand-and RAW & Smackdown must have an equal number of superstars, tht's why Rico, Val Venis & Steven Richards ended up being a part of Smackdown brand.. And finally, I got a suggestion for thq for the next WWE Smackdown game: Pls bring back the thing where you could defend titles in exhibition mode! Imean, I loved that thing on Smackdown 2. Cause I could like make my own little storyline just in exhibition-and atleast I am in control of what's happening, unlike in season mode where you just have to go with the flow. And me and my frinds used to compete for the titles in exhibition mode(can you do that in a single player season mode?). Well I guess that idea woud just appeal to those wresting fans that have a great imagination(like me). Well, to wrap-it all up(let me see...), first of all, the graphics are great. With smooth texture and detail on each superstar, I say it rocks! The sound is satisfactory-with no ring announcer and commentary from either of the Smackdown or RAW commentators... The gameplay is great, with a huge storyline and a list of different matches, I say these ought to keep your hands busy playing this game for a while. Well everything in this game is original, except for the counter buttons and the softening-a-body-part thing, which i think i saw from another wretling game. All in all this game is a great game that has minor drawbacks(well, no game is perfect). Well, I guess I could say that the makers of this game as done agreat job...
| brill but could be improved, jabroni! | | A gamer from denver, usa says (7/Nov/2003): | This game is loadz better than raw 2 or wrestlemania19.The graphics are excellent but sometimes stuff goes through stuff that it shouldn't.Where the heck is jeff hardy, hogan, mark henry, the bashams, fbi,al snow and hardcore holly among others? The roster was billed as the most up to date-but it fails as wrestlers who are coming into the spotlight are not in it.The new gameplay is miles better than the old one.Focusing on specific body parts is absolutely marvellous. It is a shame that real wrestler voices aren't in the game but there's always next year. Also if they're the legends I'm elvis-what happened to bret hart, hogan, randy savage, andre the giant and mr perfect? If you're a wrestling fan you'll love this game and appreciate its atention to detail, but if you aren'tit's still a good laugh.
graphics-9/10
sound-8/10
lifespan-9/10
modes-9/10 I have gave it only 9/10 'cos it ain't got buried alive, inferno, barbed wire, stretcher or ambulance matches.
value-10/10
gameplay-10/10
overall-9/10
| Great game | | The Dominator from Elk River, MN USA says (7/Nov/2003): | I think that Smackdown Here Comes the Pain is a fun game. I miss some of the wrestlers though. They should for sure have all the divas in it. Gameplay is great. Blood is cool, but it can be better. The blood shows up on everyone the same spot. It is an improvement though. Bra and panties match way cool. Stephanie should be included though. hehe. I think the backstage area is kinda small. But riding the bike is cool because of the move you can do to the opponent while riding it. The wrestlers that should be included are: Funaki, Mark Henry, Jamal and Rosey, Spike Dudley, Bashams, Spanky, Dawn Marie, Nidia, Jamie Noble, Jackie Gayda, Molly Holly, Jacqueline, Hogan, Mr. Perfect, Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man, Nathan Jones, etc. All current wrestlers should be on a game that is copyrighted 2003. The game is great though. Everything but the lack of wrestlers is awesome!!! They should also have J.R., Lawler, Tazz, Michael Cole, Shane McMahon, Jonathan, Coachman, and Terri Runnels as playable characters at least in Exhibition mode. I would love to play as J.R. or Cole and kick Stone Cold's butt for what he did to them a couple years ago. I know it's fake but it would be fun to play as them. Overall this game is a 9 out of 10
| GET THIS GAME! | | Jordan Adams from London, Kentucky, USA says (7/Nov/2003): | every year Smackdown fans wait for a new Smackdown to come out every year and this year the anticipation was great. But when Smackdown released and I got my copy I was amazed! This is the best wrestling game out by far. It blows any other wrestling game out of the water! The moves are beatiful, the graphics are great and the Season mode rules, what more could you want in a wrestling game. And for those of you who complain about Hogan and Jeff not being in the game, GET OVER IT!
