best game ever | | matt field from Leicester massachusetts says (18/Feb/2004): | i pesonally think the game is awsome because of all the legends and i agree screw hogan and hardy the game would be gay with them. the only improvement it would need is a burried alive match. i had the game since day one and i am not able to stop playing. the story line is awsome because you can work up your favorite superstar and whoop your friends ass with him. if you think it is too easy then try the game on the smackdown level unless your a pussy then don't play but this is the best game for a wrestling fan. the best match is the elimination chamber. and who cares if kanes music is not up to date i still like him i am not going to stop playing because it does not have the right music i give this a 1 out of 10 the graphics make the game a marvelous sight the 50 dollars is werth playing for. the fun factor is so fun that you wuold not beleive. the origanality is awsome because when you are a small superstar you can not pick up big show, taker, etc. the entrances are real the story line is unbilievable.

| needs more!a lot more! | | skinny from usa says (15/Feb/2004): | really good graphics but the entrances arent good enough. if you arer eddie gurrero you dont come out on a low rider. also rey mystero dosent have any other attires when in real life he has about 50 different ones. the entrances for the legend are so gay. first of all they come out on the little faggy ring. then they have no music what so ever unless u give them an original or something. i dont understand why they couldnt get the legends real music for example old school undertakers. his music is the illised. then rodney mack is in there and mark henry isnt. and then edge is in there and he hasnt been around for almost a whole year. also they dont have a lot of good matches. they are missing an ambulance match, a buried alive match, a street fight match, a tag team turmoil, etc. and the superstars music isnt all upgraded like in real life. then in the royal rumble a man comes out every 10 seconds and only 6 people can be in at a time. and then kane is only and 85 overall and ever since he took off his mask no one has ever beatin him since then. but that will all change when undertaker returns :). then rvd has a 5 star frog splash that goes into a pin which sucks when you are not aloud to pin and then the move dosent do a lot of damage. he should have one with a pin and one without. they are missing a lot of wrestlers to. where is the bashams, shane mcmahon, scooty 2 hotty, etc. also what is the hard core belt doing there when they put that away a year ago. finally if someone that wheres a certain type of shirt has a belt such as john cena you cant see it. the next game has to be a lot better. take that back. it better be a lot better.

| Lacking the smackdown | | jimmy H from Kent, England says (13/Feb/2004): | This game is the best one yet but still imcomplete, where are all the real legends like cactus jack/mick foley, wheres jeff hardy the basham brotheres although the graphics and definition in the players characters is excentric,the burb of blood is brilliant, it still has a few more flaws to be sorted out though to make this game a ten,you should be able to hear jerry the king lawler and jr's commentry, you have to much of a fast majority of seeson matches wheres the casket, TLC and to make it really great a burried alive match,that would be really phat. YOu should be able to use cerated charcaters in bra and panties matches. Stone cold should be the co. GM of raw as paul hyman should be the GM of smackdown. This game is still much improved from shut your mouth as there are better branch off and story lines in season mode then in ALL the other games. These factors have glued to my tv playing this gae wondering what will happen next who will be the next challenger for the title, the abbility to ake factions and rule the stage makes this game an eight out of ten

The Graphics are buzzin but they could of done better on some of the superstats Example Chris Benoit, kane 9 mad him more scary) plus the new matches are great (Elimination Chamber, BRA and PANTIS) but they could of added some more matches such as Casket and Buried Alive. They also could of put in some more WWE superstars such as the Bashem Brothers, Jamie Noble, Nidia, La Resistance, Mark Henry, Maven, FBI(Chuck, Nuzio, Johnny "the Bull")Miss Jackie, APA, Spike Dudley, Billy Gunn, Billy Kidman and of course Shane McMahon,etc. They could of also added some more legends to the game, such as Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Bret "Hitman" Hart, Andre the Giant, Sycho Sid and British Bulldog, etc and also could of added some more plus better music and enterances in creating a move set such nWo music. The season mode is great but again there is something wrong with it it's to short for my likeing. They could of also added some more attries to the game asspiecally for the Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels (as this is who i play as on the game).

| Great game only one or two things could of been better | | A gamer from NC says (6/Feb/2004): | This game was great all exept for the women you create cant fight in a bra and panties match and you cant play for the title in exibition mode. Yeah it's fun playing for the titles in season mode but you could also have it in exibition mode. If you have the champions come out in exibition mode with the title you should be able to defend it there to. As far as graphics and gameplay it's the best looking entrances i've seen yet and the best looking wrestler features,also the grappling is awesome. One more thing it was asked by someone else to make a smackdown 6 . If you do make a smackdown 6 make it better plus put all this stuff in it as well and dont leave it out. All the other smackdown games corrected stuff,but it also had a few things missing from the previous smackdown that made that game a great game to play. Oh yeah got one more thing in the season mode make it to were more than one player can play. I think that's about all I haev to say. So remember when you go to make another smackdown take these ideals from all the reviews on this site and add them to it if they are good ideals and then dont leave out anything from this smackdown. Yeah to the person who was asking about burried alive matches that would be great and a inferno match.

They have copied the moves with the utmost delicacy and the moves that you can give your own created wrestlers are more specified. They also allow you to choose your own stance and running style instead of just copying off different wrestlers’ style. And this time they let you apply your own moves to your own wrestler and even change the superstars wrestling moves (not that you would ever want to). It’s quite cool how you can interact with things like in the gym (backstage on hardcore matches) your can get on the treadmill by pressing square and tap X to build up your smackdown bar and also the place (still in the gym) where you can Irish whip your opponent into the cracked wall twice which reveals a secret area then you can Irish whip you opponent into the showers where they dance around cause the water is too hot/cold and Irish whip them into the lockers with the Divas on them for them to get trapped, nice touch. I like to play this game with my mates on my multi-tab on a Saturday night. It’s also cool how you can make your own ‘freak’ wrestlers. Now for the things that I think need improving, for a start I reckon the game should be able to be played across the internet and against other people. Secondly there should be more extra features on the game and unlike the other wwe/wwf game you can not walk around the building yourself and you are faced with just a locker. Lastly why can you only have 6 people in a ring at a time? I think it should be 8 so 8 mates can play with multi-tab.

| Good Game, needs room for improvement | | Adam from Somewhere in Europe says (30/Jan/2004): | The game at first was great, good to see the old season mode back again, and the storys in the season mode are pretty good (though very repetetive) for example if you are not the champ and you win the rumble you still supposedly fall out at the same time as the last man to be elinimated (that gets quite annoying at times too), the arenas are alot better, though lacking in weaponry in hardcore matches, limited to chairs, tables, sledgehammer and steel steps, anything else is backstage.
the first blood matches good except the women cant bleed.
the elimination chamber is great except the computers AI always climbs the chambers and damages himself, what would have been good is if the people in the chambers could distract any opponent on their chamber (like chris jericho did to rob van dam in the real E.C.) or that you could still enter the chambers after you have exited them, like goldberg spearing jericho into one of the chambers, also chamber match has no entrances!!
as it has been said in other reviews, alot of superstars missing, i.e. Bashams, APA, Rosie, Miss Jackie, Nathan Jones (even though he has left WWE)
Even on the smackdown intro, it shows the bashams, jamie noble, nidia and other absent superstars.
Authentic entrances are good to a point, as it has been said, alot of superstars are not up to date music, i.e. Victoria, Dudleys(looking forward to hearing Bombshell too) and Rob van Dam to name a few, not to mention the legends (did they come out to the ring with no music in the real thing? dont think so)
The new grappling system i like though, its much more of a range of moves you can put on your opponent, you can choose a submission move or a powerful move, same as the counters, very impressed by the way you can counter the finishers without using a smackdown to do it like shut your mouth had.
The moves are very realistic, and i have no complaints about the looks of the characters (maybe asking too much, but could we see multiple outfits for everyone?)
Legends are missing a good few of wrestlers that ought to be there, i.e. Mick Foley, Ultimate Warrior, Hulk, Andre, and Demolition. Legends should just walk out not come out in a mini ring (though this can be adjusted by changing there entrance to someone elses in create mode.
Speaking of create mode, not much to choose from in the attires department, the create mode should go back to the way that "just bring it" has, thought the change of clothing between entrance and match is good.
The auto focus opponent is annoying, where you want to focus on one opponent and it keeps changing on you, but that can be swiched off at the options.
The Superstar attributes is good, especially the SP level, the more matches you win the more chances of a title shot you have.
In a match with anyone against the like of brock lesnar, your chances are very thin, for the smallest move it can almost get 1/4 of a smack and damage you badly, they have just made some superstars too strong.
The Heel/Face option is good, you should be able to adjust these within a season though.
Not as many locations as before in the other games, but the quality is alot better in these areas. i.e the helicopter, Breakable wall in gym.
You should be able to walk through the crowd or even into it a little like in "just bring it".
Hell in a cell is as good as always, except anyone with a submission manuevure can win pretty easily, the addition of the tap any button repeatedly is good, but you still cant interupt a submission move, so triple threats against kurt angle and chris benoit are quite hard at times.
if you create a superstar, its good that you see him in a titantron kind of thing before an exhibition match, but it takes ages to load, and you should be able to choose what they do as a move (in create mode), and you should be able to see the characters face in the exhibion royal rumble picture or superstar select screen.
Multi-player is good in this but id like to see 8-player as a next step (that would be some laugh).
Overall the game is good but not great, its missing a good few features, some of which i havent mentioned.
Being a long time (and i mean LONG time) ECW/WCW/WWF/WWFE/WWE fan i think this game had the potential to be alot better, but that could be due to limitations on space on the playstation disc, but if that was the case, they could have made a season mode disc and the create mode and everything else on another disc.
So these are the reasons why i only give it 7 out of 10.
| The Undisputed champ of all wrestling games | | the Great Gamer from California,USA says (25/Jan/2004): | This is by far the best wrestling game out right now.The graphics are great,the new grappling system is great and the season mode is great.The create a wrestler has not really changed though,I mean it is pretty much the same as last years,but it is still as good as ever.Although it may take some time to get used to the new grappling system players will soon find out that it works much better than the old one.The new skill ratings which are strength,speed,submission and technique really add some strategy to the game play.For example,wrestlers such as Big Show will have high strength ratings but low speed rating,so lets say you where to use Rey Mysterio who has a high speed rating but a low strength rating against him.Mysterio would have to use his speed to win-just like in real life.All of the four ratings add up to one final over all rating.Created wrestlers have to compete in season mode to earn higher ratings.They do so by earning rating points.You can also earn SD dollers which you can use to unlock new arenas,new moves sets,legends and much more.By all means buy this game,the only reason I gave this game a nine is because of the rosters.They are missing soooooooo many superstars-The Bashems,FBI,Rosey,La Resistance,Jamie Noble and Nidea,Maven.The list goes on and on,but aside from that this is a great game and at least its got old school Taker.If you don't have it already go out and by it,it is worth every penny.Peace out

Ya should start at the first wrestlemania and go on you should be able to unlock each entence if ya win the match. After you coplete WrestlemaniaXX ya should unlock everything and somthing big should happen if ya get like 5-0,6-0,7-0,8-0 all the way up to 20-0 at wrestlemania. Ya should switch between WCW,ECW and WWE during the prosses and I don't really care ya should put the WWF simble in the game cause the World Wild Foudation or what the hell ever should have changed there name. and if the 20 years of wrestlemania dosen't happen then at least have the 1st Wrestlemania entence on it. Slaugter.I am not one to complain about litle things however, come on THQ where are the other wrestlers,what is it going to cost you guys more schadall to add about 15 wrestlers.Also who in the blue moon cares about Edge any more he's been gone for more than a year and Jeff Hardy shouldn't be on this game and he isn't. The Ledgends blowed I only liked 3 of them Sgt. Bra and panties match, it looks like there tickling each other not trying to rip there bra and panties off. The only good thing about this is if you have an Airflow controller, then you can do exibition and random and just beat the hell out of people while your hands cool off ^_^

I do have some dislikes about the Game though. 1: The game could have had more baskstage areas(ex: WWE the world, better parking lot),2: The season could have been longer. I literally beat the season in two hours.3: It could have had more legends(ex: bret hart, Andre The Giant, Hogan, Bam Bam Bigelow, Shamrock, Mankind they could have even got away with putting Ahmed Johnson on there. 4: It could have had more superstars such as Nathan Jones, FBI, APA, La Resistance, The Basham Brothers & Shaniqua, Jamie Noble & Nidia, Hardcore Holly, Jamal & Rosey,etc. 5: It could've paid tribute to Crash Holly, Owen Hart, Mr. Perfect, and Fred Blassie by having them on it. 6: HCTP could've had more matches(ex: Biker Chain Match, pink slip & other objects on the pole matches, the triple cell match from WCW, Bathing suit contests, Tag Team Turmoil matches, tag team slobber Knocker, battle raps, etc.) 7: Why no 2 player season. And last, #8: John Cena should rap when he enters the ring.

There's a good 3 or 4 themes missing from the game, the season mode gets a little too repetitive and there's not enough control over what you do backstage. The plotlines are just re-hashed from the 90's (ie The DX Express instead being [fill in the blank] Express), there's not enough development on the plotlines that DO occur and the game itself is far too easy. I've only lost 3 times in my life facing the CPU on Smackdown! level of difficulty. None of those times was during the Elimination Chamber match at the end of the faction war. They're all supposed to go after you for the entire match, yet I just stood outside the ring and waited for them all to eliminate each other.
Too many flaws in the game made it feel like it was just a beta version, I just kept on asking myself when the full version was going to come out. It was a nice try, but it failed too much for me.
I did find quite a few new things nice though. The new grapple system is interesting and the new reversal system is a million times better than all those other wrestling games. The only part that is both great and annoying is the whole concept of not being able to pick up a wrestler who's much bigger than you. It's great because it adds a touch of realism, but if you were to make a light-heavyweight or lightweight, then you can't use any moves involving lifting (which, for some odd reason, includes Side Effect 1). They didn't put in enough interesting moves that don't involve lifting the other athlete, so you pretty much always end up making a heavyweight.
