| Stop whining :/ | | Mike from Paris says (12/Jan/2004): | All you guys are whining about people not being in there, and how it can be improved.. yes it is a good game, yes it has good graphics, and yes it has a variety of things you can do, there is nothing much wrong with the game.. i once played this game for 36 hours straight, thats how much i like it, i never got bored (and never gave up), only thing i dislike about it, is when you get continuously set up to fight the same person over and over (no, im not whining, im expressing how i feel)
The variety of characters is good enough, there are good, and there are bad.. all that is doing is balancing out the game a bit more, i mean. i got beaten my a weak person in a few matches.. just because you think they suck doesn't mean they can't beat you. The game does have good music aswell,
what im saying is, if you think there is lots of room for improvement, then why dont you get off your lazy ass and make your own game and stop whining to everyone else. Your abliged to your opinion and all.. but all that whining some of you are doing, it just irritates some of us people that acually see where the game is going and why it was made as it was.

Other than that it is a very solid title. I love the attributes feature, though it is a bit of a pain if you are using the CAW feature in the exhibitions. However, it gives you a major sense of accomplishment to build up your masterpiece in the season mode. The season mode's storyline is fairly decent with plot twists worthy of television. The addition of old time favorites like Slaughter and Snuka is great. Seeing the old school Undertaker (pre-biker) was definatly a blast from the past. Wouldn't it be funny if you could have both Takers in the season mode? I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I also liked the new matches. Finally, a first blood match! I haven't seen that since WWF Attitude. It is the Smackdown video game series that really got me hooked on wrestling, and this game just made my love for sports-entertainment even more intense. If you are a fan of the Smackdown series, or just a roody-poo jabroni, this game is worth picking up at any price.

However, NO NATE JONES ? NO HULKAMANIA ? NO F.B.I. ? (common i know u all wanted to beat down nunzio with taker). That kind of pist me off. THATS WHAT WAS ALWAYS GREAT ABOUT THE SERIES THE MASS WRESTLERS AND TIGHT SEASON MODE. I thought season mode was OK many improvements could have been made. HOW DO I TELL THIS TO THQ? Needs A Tiny touch Up | | A gamer from Sydney,Australia says (4/Jan/2004): | Well, First Of all The Graphics of Here Comes the Pain is an improvement especially Brock Lesner and Goldberg (which I think look the best). One thing i think needs a touch-up is the mini-cutscenes in the season mode some of it doesnt make sense.The sound in this game is way better than Smackdown 4 but i think instead of taking the comentary off they should of put a improvement.The controls in this game were hard at first but after about 45 minutes you will get the hang of it and finally to reverse moves is not only the square button but its L2 punching and kicking and R2 for moves which is more challenging.The game-play is exciting ill give it a 9/10 for the gameplay. The Lengends in the game are awesome but i think they should put more legends and also the modern wrestlers aswell.But my Biggest upset is why i gave the game 9/10 stars is when you verse a person if you give them ur special move a 5% chance that they won't kickout when you pin them which makes the match go longer. But besides that i think this is the best Wrestling Game so far!!
| Well Cole Here Comes The Pain!!!!!!!!!! | | A gamer from New York, USA says (3/Jan/2004): | I am a wrestleing encyclopedia........I have been watching and playing wrestleing games for over a decade......when Smack Down came out in 1999 my wrestleing game outlook changed for ever in a good way......now four years later I still love the sieries.....when I first started playing this game in december before I bought I wasn't impressed by the main menu and wrestling match types however I have a great imagination and if you do to and enjoy the WWE's 50 year legacy you'll love this game.......even though the create a superstar is at its best ever I was a litle disapointed in after you create them because you have to build their power, speed, endurance, and technique up........also I forgot every wrestler has ability points in about 4 or 5 catagories that can start off high or low between 1- 10 and on season mode you can build them up......I personally like this but not for the created superstars......if I wanted to make a ultimate unbeatable wrestler I should be able to.......also the wrestling entrances are mind blowing........however Kane and R.V.D. have their old entrance music (I never noticed this until I read some of these reviews and I think you wont either) The season mode is sadly only one season however you can continue......I would of really enjoyed seeing both wrestlemania XIX and XX in a two year epic also if you are a long time loyal fan of WWE then you will enjoy the 9 total ledgends selectable however you must unlock 5 of them on season mode with your very own SD points which are saved up after sucessfuly winning matches......The ledgends go to the ring on assinined looking mini rings from wrestlemania III.......The ledgends are Roddy Piper, Iron Shiek, Nikolia Volkoff, Hillbily Jim (I'm lost with you there), Sgt. Slaugter( My faverote) The Undertaker, Hawk, Animal, Million $ Man, and Jimmy Snuka, Hope this is helpful

But their is one thing i wanted to see on this and thats 2 player season.. If it had a lot of legends in it, then it should have had Hulk Hogan, Ricky the Dragon Steambolt. The season was great but i wouldve liked to seen Stone Cold come as GM. I have a lot of ideas for the next Smack Down. Like u have even more blood, climb up the titantron, fight on top of a chamber, and stuff like that. Also in season mode once u finish unlocking everything what can u use your money for. Also it needs a buried alive match, ambulance match, stretcher match and stuff like that. It needs to bring a match from WCW the 3 Cells on top of each other. It needs to be able to have more ppl in the ring wiht Royal Rumble. John Cena needs to rap in the matches. Mick Foley needs to be in it. Pink slip on the poll match, and other stuff on the poll. Zach Gowen, Jeff Hardy, Mr. America needs to be on it. It needs to have a lot more matches, in season it needs to have bra and panties matches.

Season mode is extremely fun and you can play season mode four or five times without having one of the same story lines. Nevertheless, the lack of active superstars on the roster is a serious flaw. Many superstars were completely lefted out of the game, even some that were in the pervious Smackdown title. They did include some lengends but there could have been many more, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Andran the Giant, Sting, the nWo, the list goes on. However, the gameplay has been redone since the last Smackdown title so the superstars are able to hold more moves, which make the game that much more exciting.

Value-you get a bang for your buck, even if you own the perivous titles you will certainly fine someting fun about this one-90%
Sound-not bad when you start out but there is only so many times i can listen to the RAW and Smackdown theme song, sound quaitly is good but they need more different types of music-60%
Overall this game is fun to all gamers, however i would suggest renting the game and making your own valued opinion.

It's got 3 new matches(bra and pantie,first blood,elimination chamber), Legends(Legion of doom,old school taker,Sgt.slaughter and many more), great new grappling system and most of current wreastlers. A few important ones were left out but it dosen't hurt the game too badly. Season mode has greatly improved. Graphics and moves look great. I keep saying "one more match" and I end up spending 2 or 3 more hours playing. The comentary was taken out. That certainly won't be missed. The season is only 1 year long but, it alows you to play through an entire season with more superstars. the controls are different than before so it'll take a little bit of getting used to for fans of older smackdowns. After a little bit the new controlls are simple and easy to use. You can also custimize your season by labling people as a face or heel, choosing what show to be on and if they are even in your season at all. The arenas look great and old match types are improved. This is definently the best wreastling game to date. You should really get your hands on it!

MUSIC: Kane, Lita, Torrie, RVD, Stacey, have old music/just the beat of their real song. My understanding of that is because real artists do their songs (Limp Bizkit, Finger, Eleven, Kid Rock) but that brings up another point> Trish has Lil' Kim as her entrance. Randy orton is the exact same from Smack Down 4 with the stripes on his blue shorts. MISSING CHARACTERS: Other than Hulk and Hardy who i have heard of >THEY ARE FIRED!< But what about FBI, APA, Spanky, Zach Gowen, Shane O'Mac, BILLY GUNN, Jamie Noble, Nidia, Mark Henry, Funaki, Theodore Long (manager), Hardcore Holly, ROSEY (The S.H.I.T.), La Resistance, and they shouldve put in CRASH HOLLY i mean, come on, simpathy WWE and probably others but i think i didnt miss any. I made Billy exelent with Create though. but i was pissed i couldn't make the legendary ROAD DOGG and you can make X-Pac but not the D-O-Double G. Overall, Get it, its great. They even made HAWK as a Legend real nice of them! The backstage is sweet too in hardcore matches. but they have the hardcore belt. That is retired! Although it really shouldnt be. Oh yea MAVEN isnt in it either. The rock is play great in the game, so go buy the game IF YA SMELLLLLALALALA WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING!
| something a lil helpful here | | Kyle from USA,Missouri says (31/Dec/2003): | To be honost ive made some unbeatable characters especially for the midgets lol when ur a 7 ft 2 giant people like jhone cena which i think is a cool person but eddie he's an ******* in the game so i made a character thats 7ft 2 and must weigh atleast 505 with all muscle i son't no hes kinda skinny but mostly buff and muscle but make people like that and make sur eu add weight and the only way they can lift is either during a special or during a counter but as for people like big show(used to be the real Giant) well thats a different story and 1 thats has a nice strength of atleast 8.5 or rver will lift you like nothing if there 7ft+ but if not they better hAve atleats a strength of 9 to do some good but you better win if you plane on gtetin all stats to ten it takes a while but im trying some new things and im still trying out the lilchris cheat of R1.L1,L2,R2 at the title screen i don't no if tiworks i still gunn a try it i had found it from a site that gave me eprmission to giv eit out if necessary so any ways i hope this is helpul if u mad e asmall guy well add as much weight as possi ble he may look fat but add some speed and try to eve n out the skills some whata s soon as u make the character and add ENDURANCE or else ur going to get pinned very easily and will only last 1-5 minutes at the most ina tag and maybe less ina single unles ur lucky as heck or have a cheat on!

But other than that this game is perfect i think it is a very interesting game it draws you have to play more with your friends or by yourself this is a great game that i will continue to play and play for a while and i do not think i will get bored with it because you can just create another guy and put him through season or like i said above play with your friends. I like the way there are so many different ways you can make your character look you can make him fat or skinny. Or tall and short. There are many different characters you can make that are all famous like cloud from FF7 and many others. This is an all around great game that i will play over and over again or at least until they come out with the next Smackdown! Game. You just can't get after you been thrown off like 50,000 times.The same when you fall off the building with Plaza B and the the helicopter and etc.They should have had more people like Jeff Hardy.I couldn't believe they didn't have Jeff Hardy.He was on all the other games including games on Nintendo64.On Shut yo Mouth you could get a ladder from under the ring with certain people like RVD.On this one you have to be in a TLC or Ladder match.When you hit the referee,he reverses it and hits you.Sometimes my opponent is next to the referee and try to hit my opponent and the ref grabs me and leaves me open for a Smackdown move.I don't like with the tables,when you just press down and x to put him on the table.You just put the table forward and the opponent jumps on it.That't is some bogust crap. And in the chamber match,if the glass breaks,get the hell out the chamber.And in Season mode,Im glad the you don't have a match every single night.
P.S.Some off judge the divas on how they are looking hot on the game.Think about it,it is a game your judging.If you do this you are mentalty challenged.
| brill game, best so far | | y2jz from newcastle, england says (31/Dec/2003): | i agree about the comentry and the ring anoncer on the game, they sadly lak them, and the entrances r far 2 short, u hardly have time 2 see hoo is walkin doon the ramp never mind the name or wot there warin. but everythin else is brill, the graphics r superb apart from john cena lookin like will regal and the same old prob of hair goin thru bodys and stuff like that, but season mode has takin a step up and the new main matches (bra & panties, elimination chamber and first blood) are fantastic and all the old matchs r 2. i mean every thin can always be slightly better, but on this game not 2 much can be improved. all in all this is the best game so far, but i think THQ need to watch raw and smackdown more closely and look at the finer points of the superstars and matches. (plus, skimpier clothes on the divas woodnt go amiss.) i also luv the bra and panties match, that can give u hours of endless fun, and thats 1 match i dont mind loosin if ya no wot i meen.

1.Wrestling legends section is very half hearted and seems to have bee rushed. More legends could have been put in and that includes their entrance music and themes...whats TED DIBIASE without his entrance music! Whts with the awful deadly silent entrance they have glisng in on a miniture ring. If they had no intention of putting as much effort into the extra charachters then thy shouldnt have done it at all really.
2.A 2 player career would increase the lifespan of this game ten-fold. without this its get repetitive very quickly.
3.The blood could have been improved so that they bleed on differnet areas of their body to correspond with the damage meter. having splatters of blood on the canvas where the wrestlers fall would have made it a lot more brutal and realistic.
Flaws aside the game itself looks very impressive and the concept is a very ambitious one. To me it looks like they put in so much hard work only to rush some of the final details at the end...maybe to make the xmas shelves or something...a shame really because it was only a short distance away from being a classic. Heres hoping the developers actually take on board peoples opinions.

But it's certainly missing a few things. Such as some wrestlers. For god sakes, WHERE IS SPANKY!? In Smackdown! Shut Your Mouth, Spanky was not in the game... I was disappointed. But I was sure he'd show up in number 5... But sadly, he didn't. Also I think some of the legends are poorply picked. It left out people the Bret Hart, Bob Backlund and of course Yokozuna! Another thing I think is that, instead of restarting a season every year after WrestleMania. Your season should continue for another 4 years or so. Because it's very boring repeating the same storylines over and over again.
Enough of the negatives. On to the positives. Like the gameplay. Truthfully, I cannot find one bad thing about the gameplay of this game. I must say that everything that happens in the ring is awesome! Another thing that has majorly improved is the graphics. When you look at SD 4 and then you look at SD 5. The first thing you noticed is the graphics are much better. For instence, the hair looks a lot more like hair then a mop of some sort.
Overall I would probably give this game something like a B+. It would have been an A if Spanky was in it.

I think the moves are too confusing. we dont need so many moves for our created superstars. As far as the legends go...its a nice addition. But i ask you...Where the heck is andre the giant, and mankind? hey lets not forget about hulk hogan either. these guys are legends too. i dont like the b and p matches for divas. our country is all ready immoral enough and what kind of example does this set for our younger fans that play this game. the comentaries could be better too. in the other games like just bring it and stuff they actually called the moves as you wrestled. we need this on this game. another bad point is shawn michaels rating. an 80???? he is so much better than that. he's a legend! i expect him to be the next WWE champion. he's destined for that. well i cant fill in 200 words so i got to start going crazy. thanks for your time. joseph.
| God damn Good! | | A gamer from Lansing Michigan USA says (27/Dec/2003): | Smackdown Here come the pain has been totally upgraded from Smackdown for the graphics make the characters look real instead of animations but there is still some glitchs to work out such as the going through the body in the rock bottom but overall game play is good such as season has a great storyline with backstage area to talk to people and you can upgrade your character using attributes in season mode also the exibition is is fun with friends THQ has added alot more choices to the mainevents in exibition and more ways to play the main event.
The Sound in Smackdown sound during a match is only music which is a little boring at times but it has good music the oringinallity of this game is pheonaminal i dont know if any other game company could come out with this good of wrestling game other then EA This game's fun factor is at the top of the scale compared to other games The value of the game is well worth saving up your pennys to go to the store and spending all your hard earn cash on Smackdown HCTP That why this is game a must buy for this year!

well if there is an option like that,im sure that there will be no more smackdown platform because you can already costumize superstars.And of course let's not forget about the elimination chamber and the first blood matches.Some matches from smackdown shut your mouth are not available in HPTC,like I Quit match,king of the ring and street fight.In this game you have to beat your opponent until his blood come out, except females superstars,so it's hard to beat a superstar in a last man standing match with a perfect endurance points.this game is also harder than shut your mouth.If you dont have some friends to play with you can put the difficulty to smackdown (hardest).a lot's of people will not be dissapointed in this game
